Disappear to the Dells with 'Lost Voyage'

Not content with being already famous as the waterpark capital of the world, Wisconsin Dells now wants to challenge Roswell and the Bermuda triangle as one of the globe's scariest places.
Dells Boat Tours' new "Lost Voyage" boat expeditions are nighttime adventures inspired by the TV series "Lost" and the cult horror film "The Blair Witch Project"; the "Lost Voyage" promo video has a distinct "Blair Witch" feel.
In the story created by Emil Bertalot, a tour boat in July 1943 disappeared without a trace near Cold Water Canyon. In our time, a trio of teenagers discover the old boat in the middle of the canyon, on dry land. Then they disappear.
"Lost Voyage" has an online element, too. Website registrants can download a series of mystery-related questions, such as "What two words are stenciled on a machine in the canyon?"
In the course of answering the questions, participants gain pieces of a code that solves the mystery, and could qualify to win a prize. Read more at www.dellslostvoyage.com/HOME.html .
These voyages are designed as 90-minute, after-dusk excursions. Visitors will travel up the Wisconsin River by boat and then explore Cold Water Canyon on foot. Voyages continue through Labor Day. They load at 8:15 nightly.
Fares are $20 for adults, $15 for students. Call (608) 254-8555 for reservations. Because of the scary nature of the expedition, it's not considered suitable for children under 10 years old.
Speaking of the scary, the Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum has crafted a new vampire exhibit with an open casket and secret passageways. No word yet if the barkeeps nearby are pouring any TrueBlood.

The Noah's Ark Waterpark features the movie "Pirates!" at its 4-D Dive-in Theater. The comic 15-minute film, created for theme parks, features the late Leslie Nielsen as a nasty pirate captain and Monty Python alum Eric Idle as his French first mate. In a case of the old becoming new again, The Tommy Bartlett Show , after experimenting in recent years, is concentrating on classic water skiing, down to the '50s costuming, with plenty of stunts, side-by-side tricks and long-distance jumps. Info: www.tommybartlett.com .

At Lost Canyon you enjoy the entire tour riding through a magnificent mile of cliff-walled gorges in quaint horse-drawn carriages. Your tour will be even more thrilling when you come to the narrow passages of Lost Canyon where the guides must talk the horses through the tight squeeze. In some of the deeper parts of Lost Canyon the sheer rock & sandstone wall have not felt the touch of the sun in more than 50,000 years. The trips take a half hour & begin on the south shore of Lake Delton.

The ticket price is the same for adults and children. The adventure includes a boat ride up the river, after dark, to a creek tributary called Cold Water Creek. It is about 25 minutes up to the boat dock, and you will not only go on the main Wisconsin Upper Dells river, but up an increasingly narrow creek way.

Very dark walk back, an accident waiting to happen as canyon has sharp edges and low railings at times. Basically this is an outdoor haunted house.
