About Booking This Tour

Travel Documents

If you are a U.S. citizen traveling internationally, you will need a passport valid for six months beyond the completion of your Tauck journey for entry into Canada. You do not require a visa for the short duration of this tour.

If you are a citizen of another country traveling internationally, please contact an embassy or consulate of Canada to determine what travel documentation will be required.

Please note that longer stays abroad for any purpose may require additional travel documentation.

If you are a citizen of the U.S. or Canada who travels frequently between the two countries , you may benefit from the NEXUS program, which is a joint initiative between the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency and the Canada Border Services Agency that allows pre-screened and approved travelers faster processing at designated highway lanes in high-volume border crossing locations, at a NEXUS kiosk at several airports, and at certain marine reporting locations in the Great Lakes and Seattle regions. For further information, you may log on to the Nexus Internet website by clicking here . Please note that longer stays abroad for any purpose may require additional travel documentation.

Anyone with a criminal record (including some misdemeanors such as Driving While Impaired (DWI) charges) may be excluded or removed from Canada, and should contact a Canadian embassy or consulate well in advance of any planned travel to ensure proper travel documentation.

We strongly recommend that you make at least two photocopies of all the travel documents that you bring with you. Include copies of the photo page of your passport that contains the date of issuance, the date of expiration and your citizenship. Secure one set of copies in the safe in your room while traveling and leave one set behind with someone at home who will assist you in the event your documents are misplaced, lost or stolen.

To facilitate Travel Requirements, destinations are increasingly utilizing online forms that require digital proof that you've successfully completed your submission (via an email, QR code, etc.) To ensure smooth travels and peace of mind, we strongly recommend all guests carry a personal smart phone and sign up for international data plans before traveling overseas.

TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN AS A GUARDIAN: If you are traveling as the guardian of a child/children, we strongly suggest that you carry a letter from both parents of the child authorizing emergency treatment in the event of illness or accident. For travel abroad, many foreign countries have specific entry requirements for children under 21 who are traveling internationally without BOTH parents. (These requirements are in response to the increased incidence of children being abducted and taken abroad.) PLEASE NOTE THAT TAUCK IS NOT RESPONSIBLE for the disruption of travel caused by improper documentation for children traveling without both parents.

Travel Insurance Benefits – Underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company.

This protection provides insurance coverage that applies only during the covered trip. You may have coverage from other sources that provides you with similar benefits but may be subject to different restrictions depending upon your other coverages. You may wish to compare the terms of this policy with your existing life, health, home and automobile policies. If you have any questions about your current coverage, call your insurer, insurance agent or broker.

This optional Guest Protection must be requested at time of booking and fee must be included with initial payment. Fees are based on costs as of July 1, 2021, and are subject to change. Details will be provided with written confirmation of your tour reservation. Guest Protection does not protect travel agent commissions. Reimbursements will be made according to original method of payment. The amount of any refund shall be reduced by any recoveries obtained by you from any third parties.

The Guest Protection plan waives cancellation fees outlined below, provided we are notified of cancellation before your tour departs. Tour cancellation fees are waived regardless of reason, without written notice, and Tauck will refund land tour cost.

To obtain your state-specific Certificate of Insurance that contains the complete terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the certificate, visit  affinitytravelcert.com/docs/TACGPPDOM .

These fees vary from tour to tour. Therefore, the following fees apply.

Cancellation Fees with Tauck's Guest Protection Plan:

Loss of Guest Protection fee, per person

Cancellation Fees without Tauck's Guest Protection Plan :

Travel Requirements For This Tour

Air Information and Luggage Restrictions

AIRFARE: Airfare to and from this destination is not included in the journey cost. If purchasing your air elsewhere, it is very important to provide us with your confirmed arriving and departing flight information no later than 3 weeks before your arrival date. Flight information can be submitted to Tauck (or verified, if you've already provided it) in the My Account section of Tauck.com.

TAUCK AIRPORT TRANSFERS are included at the start and end of the journey between the airport and the Tauck hotel. Airport transfers are available for any pre tour or post tour hotel stays immediately consecutive to the tour, providing flight information is received in the Tauck office no later than three weeks in advance. Details on locating your transfer upon arrival to the tour start city will be included in your final documents.

AIRLINES and CHECKED LUGGAGE: Due to space limitations during your Tauck journey, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one average-size suitcase per person. Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and are free to revise luggage policies without notice. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies. PLEASE NOTE that if you are booked on a tour that includes on-tour flights, the checked luggage weight restrictions for these flights may be lower than the weight restrictions for your international flights.

Checked Luggage – General

Due to space restrictions, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one suitcase per person weighing no more than 50 pounds (23 kg) and with overall dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 62 inches (158 cm).

Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and luggage exceeding airline standards for size or weight may result in expensive overage fees or other consequences.

Airlines are free to revise luggage policies without notice, and certain airlines have different baggage allowances for different classes of service. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies.

Tauck luggage tags will be provided by your Tauck Director on Day 1 of your itinerary. Please do not attach a Tauck luggage tag to any carry-on items, as the Tauck tags designate luggage that is to be handled and transferred by ground operators and hotel staff during your journey.

Carry-on Luggage - General

Although oversize bags and wheeled, carry-on luggage are popular for airline travel, they are often not convenient or appropriate for motor coach travel or for many on-tour flights. Most modern sightseeing motor coaches offer limited space for numerous or larger items. Space under seats or in the overhead rack is typically small, and designed to accommodate items like coats, hats, purses, and small camera bags, etc.

For your day-to-day travel while on tour, we recommend that you limit your hand luggage to a small, soft-sided carry-on piece, and that you bring only those items you need handy during the day such as make-up, medications, cameras, film, etc. Items too large to fit under the motor coach seat or on the overhead rack must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach, and may be inaccessible during daytime travel.

Health, Safety and Mobility

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS

Smoking is not permitted on the motor coaches. Local legislation in Canada varies greatly with respect to smoking. Generally, all three provinces visited - Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island - ban smoking in public places. There is a costly fine in Nova Scotia per offense. Hotel guest rooms are generally exempt from these regulations.

If you have a medical condition which might limit your participation in activities, please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice and notify us as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. We will advise your Tauck Director accordingly.

Please check with your health insurance provider to determine whether you are covered while traveling. If you will not be covered under your current policy, we strongly suggest that you arrange for adequate coverage while on tour.

VACCINATIONS

If you are a resident of the U.S. traveling internationally, no vaccinations are currently needed for Canada. Please contact your physician, the public health service in your area, or the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to obtain further information about vaccinations. The Travelers' Health Section of the CDC operates a 24-hour "Travelers' Health Hotline" at 800-232-4636 (toll-free in the U.S.). You may also log on to the CDC website by clicking here.

If you are a resident of another country traveling internationally, please contact an embassy or consulate of Canada to determine what vaccinations may be required for you to visit.

SPECIAL DIETARY REQUESTS

The restaurants, hotels, caterers and numerous other partners we work with all do their best to accommodate special dietary requests from Tauck guests. However, given the diverse nature of those food providers (from small wineries to grand hotels to world-famous restaurants in more than 70 countries worldwide), some of our partners are better able than others to accommodate such requests. We therefore cannot guarantee that all dietary requests can be accommodated at every meal. Also, please note that where dietary requests can be accommodated, choices will frequently be limited.

Canadian Maritimes is moderately-paced for the enjoyment of all. You should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances over uneven terrain, as some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot.

PLEASE NOTE: We regret that we're unable to provide individual assistance to guests with walking difficulties or other personal needs.  The responsibility of the Tauck Director who accompanies your trip is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest. Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it.

Reading List

We have compiled a reading list of recommended books to give you more information about the destinations you will be traveling to on your upcoming journey!

You can view the reading list  here.

The climate in Eastern Canada is continental, with four distinct seasons. From June through early September, average high temperatures range from 65 to 85˚F (18 to 29˚C); average low temperatures range from 45 to 65˚F (7 to 18˚C). Prince Edward Island has warm summers with low humidity. Rainfall is spread evenly throughout the year at a moderate 4 in (102 mm) per month.

To read about current weather conditions, we suggest you log on to the Internet website by clicking here.

What To Pack

When joining a Tauck journey, every guest is responsible for their own health and, in turn, the protection of their fellow travelers, the Tauck staff, our suppliers and the places we visit. As such, you are expected to follow local and supplier guidelines regarding face coverings, as explained by your Tauck Director. Our partners may have a limited supply of face coverings, gloves, and hand sanitizer, so please bring such personal items for your own comfort.

Bringing the right clothing for your trip is important – we've partnered with Necessary Gear who provide an "easy-to-use, one-stop shop" for your Tauck travel needs, specifically selected for this trip. Click here to visit their site .

Dress for comfort and convenience with a wardrobe that is flexible and allows for layering. Casual, cotton clothing is recommended. A light sweater or jacket will provide warmth on a chilly early morning walk or a late night stroll.

There is a ferry ride on this itinerary. You may want to pack a windbreaker if you wish to sit outside.

For dining in finer restaurants and for the welcome reception and farewell dinner you may want to dress up a bit – a jacket for men and a casually-elegant outfit for ladies – but by all means be comfortable and note that this level of dress is not required, merely suggested.

You will find a hair dryer located in your hotel guest room. Irons and ironing boards are available upon request. Valet laundry and dry cleaning services are available for a fee at these hotels: The Prince George Hotel, Keltic Lodge, Delta Beauséjour, and Delta Prince Edward. Delta Prince Edward also has self-service guest laundry facilities.

We recommend that you pack an adequate supply of your prescription medication in its original container to last through your entire journey, together with a copy of your doctor's prescription (or a letter from your health-care provider on office stationery explaining that the medication has been prescribed for you), a list of the generic names of your medication, your travel documents and a change of clothing in your carry-on bag to avoid any inconvenience in the event that your flight or luggage is delayed.

Following is a list of recommended items to pack for your trip to Eastern Canada:

  • Casual daytime wear – shorts, slacks, long and short-sleeved shirts
  • Optional: Jacket and tie for men
  • Optional: Casually elegant evening wear for ladies
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, hat
  • A light sweater, jacket or windbreaker for higher elevations or a breezy night
  • Binoculars (7x50 preferably)
  • Insect repellent
  • Camera, lenses, batteries, memory cards and chargers
  • Lightweight, comfortable, sturdy walking shoes that have already been broken-in
  • Travel alarm clock/cell phone with alarm function (many hotels do not have clocks in rooms)
  • Rain poncho and collapsible umbrella
  • Day-pack for camera equipment
  • Sundries and toiletries that may be difficult to find en route
  • Copies of your travel documents that should be secured in the safe in your hotel room while traveling

Atlantic Ocean Tours & Travel

Atlantic Ocean Attractions & Landmarks Guide

  • Bermuda: It lies well north of the Caribbean Sea, has a cooler but pleasant climate, and is the wealthiest of all Atlantic islands. It's pristine, highly manicured, and remains part of the United Kingdom.
  • The Azores: It's a far-flung region of Portugal and geared toward active travelers. Nine islands lie almost 1,000 miles off Europe's Iberian Peninsula, offering an excellent spot for sport fishing, diving, biking, and volcano climbing among the options.
  • Islands Off North Africa: The Canary Islands, which belong to Spain; Madeira, a Portuguese territory; and Cape Verde, also with Portuguese heritage, are good destinations for off-the-beaten-path tropical touring.
  • Islands Off the Coast of Northern Canada: Saint Pierre and Miquelon provide a taste of France among the British-heritage Canadian Maritime provinces, including the large Newfoundland island.
  • The Atlantic coast of the United States: It's home to a diverse array of islands, including Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket in Massachusetts; Long Island, New York; the islands along the New Jersey Shore; Roanoke Island, North Carolina (site of the first European settlement in the current U.S.); Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; St. Simon's, Georgia; and the Florida Keys.
  • Northern Extremes: The southern coasts of Greenland, Iceland, and Norway's Svalbard islands form the northern border of the Atlantic Ocean and offer chances for Arctic and sub-Arctic explorations on boat tours.
  • Sao Tome and Principe: Africa's smallest country; it's a beautiful tropical island off the coast of West Africa and makes an excellent offbeat spot for boat tours.
  • The Falkland Islands: Off the coast of South America, these islands came under British occupation after the 1970s war with Argentina (which claims them). They are an excellent place for hiking and other outdoor pursuits.
  • British outposts in the South Atlantic: St. Helena, Ascension, and Tristan da Cunha are remote British outposts best reached by small expedition-style cruises.
  • Portugal: Discover the coastal cities of Lisbon and Porto, where cobblestone streets wind through colorful neighborhoods and historic landmarks dot the skyline. Explore Lisbon's iconic Belém Tower and Porto's charming Ribeira district, or relax on the sun-kissed beaches of the Algarve.
  • Spain: Visit Bilbao and San Sebastian along Spain's northern coast, where modern architecture meets traditional Basque culture. Indulge in pintxos (Basque tapas) in San Sebastian or marvel at the avant-garde design of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
  • France: Explore the maritime heritage of Bordeaux and Nantes, two vibrant cities nestled along the Atlantic coast of France. Sample world-renowned wines in Bordeaux's vineyards or cruise along the Loire River in Nantes, known for its medieval châteaux and charming canals.

  • Scotland and Ireland: Journey to the wild and windswept landscapes of Scotland and Ireland, where rugged coastlines and ancient ruins abound. Explore the remote beaches of the Outer Hebrides, wander the cobbled streets of Dublin's Temple Bar district, or hike the dramatic cliffs of the Cliffs of Moher.
  • Morocco: Discover the coastal city of Agadir, where whitewashed buildings overlook pristine beaches and bustling souks and offer a glimpse into Morocco's rich heritage. Explore ancient medinas, visit ornate palaces, or embark on a camel trek into the Sahara Desert.
  • Senegal: Experience the vibrant culture of Dakar, Senegal's bustling capital nestled along the West African coast. Immerse yourself in the rhythms of local music, sample traditional Senegalese cuisine, or visit the historic Île de Gorée, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its role in the transatlantic slave trade.

This year we celebrate 24 years of making memories in Ireland with you. It’s been our genuine pleasure to invite you to experience Ireland up close and personal, and we’re proud of the part we’ve played in helping to create thousands of exceptional vacations. As our business has grown during this time, the fundamental purpose of RIT has remained the same: to give you an authentic, hand-crafted vacation experience that you won’t soon forget.

The authentic Irish experience, created with care

We can recommend our tours to you because we’ve experienced them ourselves. We’ve explored the magnificent basalt columns at the Giant’s Causeway and breathed the coastal air at the mighty Cliffs of Moher. We’ve experienced the warm, inviting atmosphere of a Dublin pub and immersed ourselves in the rich mythology embedded deep into the living rock of Irish castles. We want you to feel the same enthusiasm about Ireland that we do. With us, your vacation is in good hands.

Irish roots run deep at RIT

Though Canada is home for the Duffy family, Ireland is in our blood. This patriotic love is the driving force behind everything we do. We pride ourselves on the unparalleled, personal experiences that we make possible through our strong familiarity with the land and its locals. Why sailing in Norway

- Thousands  of islands and fjords providing  shelter

- Wild nature

- Authentic historical places

- Midnight Sun

- High standards of living in every  village

- Possibility to avoid people if you want

- Possibility to meet locals if you want

- Fishing

What to expect

- Quiet sailing, mostly low speed, sometimes good speed under sails.

- Mostly calm sea, too much waves can be avoided.

- We explore villages and mountains when there is too much or too little wind.

- Nights in marinas or anchored at remote places.

Relaxing and/or Learning?

You define the balance between the two roles:

1) As a passenger, you enjoy relaxed sailing experience with much free time for observing the nature, taking pictures, reading etc.,

2) You may choose to learn how to set sails and navigate - we have a lot of time for both learning and practicing.

Any balance between these two opportunities is good!

What people love about Mid Atlantic Tours

Our tour guide, Barbara Buryiak, was exceptionally knowledgeable. She was always pleasant and was able to navigate some issues that popped up during the tour—i.e. road closures to certain areas, navigating the fact that the Old Town Trolley does not run on July 4 in DC, getting us some extra site seeing opportunities (the church at Gettysburg for one) and getting those of us who went on from Philadelphia to Washington DC a new hotel when the Capital Hilton claimed we did not have any reservations—which Barbara knew should not have been the case as she had seen the rooming list at the beginning of the tour which stated that 13 folks would be returning to the hotel, spending July 3 and 4 there. She also provided us some “extras.” She knew the value of the communication and was always very positive.
Trip was amazing. Really well organised and planned. John was a brilliant guide - incredibly knowledgeable about the area, the physical geography and the historical and cultural connections. Everything ran smoothly from beginning to end. Cannot recommend this trip (or John as a guide!) highly enough
We had a Great time! Amanda was an amazing guide, our food was delicious. She was so informative about the flora and fauna and made the trip really fun. We were also lucky that there were only 2 of us and our guide Amanda so it was like having a private tour.

Coldplay Pledges to Lower Carbon Emissions on 2022 Tour

On Thursday (Oct. 14), Coldplay announced the dates for its 2022 global tour in support of the upcoming album 'Music of the Spheres.'

By Gil Kaufman

Gil Kaufman

Coldplay announced the dates for an expansive 2022 world tour in support of the group’s upcoming Max Martin-produced album, Music of the Spheres  on Thursday morning (Oct. 14). The stadium outing is slated to kick off on March 18 with the band’s first-ever show in Costa Rica, at the Estadio Nacional, before moving on to the Dominican Republic and Mexico and then touching down in Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on April 23 for a U.S. run slated to last through a June 14 gig at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

H.E.R. is on board to support the majority of the dates, with London Grammar booked to open a July 10 show in Berlin and an Aug. 16 gig at Wembley Stadium in London. Tickets for the U.S. dates will go on sale to the general public on Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. local time here , with a release teasing that more dates will be announced soon.

Ed Sheeran Joins Coldplay to Perform 'Fix You' & 'Shape of You' at London Album Party

In an effort to make the tour as sustainable as possible, the band announced that all the shows will be powered by 100% renewable energy, with pledges to cut tour emissions by 50% from the group’s 2016-17 world tour and plant one tree for every ticket sold. According to a release, each venue will be equipped with solar installations and other renewable power sources including waste cooking oil and a kinetic stadium floor with kinetic bikes powered by fans that will store energy in the first-ever mobile, rechargeable show battery.

Coldplay are also encouraging fans to use low-carbon transport to and from shows through the official tour app, rewarding those who do with a discount at the venues, in addition to making sure that all merch is sustainably and ethically sourced. There will also be free drinking water and efforts made to eliminate plastic bottles at every venue; click here to see the full list of sustainability goals.

In a statement, the band said, “Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together. At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward. We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn. It’s a work in progress and we’re really grateful for the help we’ve had so far. If you’d like to come to a show and sing with us, we’re so excited to see you.”

Bohner, Richard Hugh, Jr.

Brennan, Robert John – – 1/15/2007– CAPT Brennan graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1982 after enlisting in the Navy and attending the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, RI.  He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma.  Following graduation he completed nuclear power training and the Submarine Officer Basic Course.

His initial shipboard assignment from June 1984 to June 1987 was aboard USS STONEWALL JACKSON (SSBN 634)(G) where he qualified in submarines and served as the Chemistry and Radiological Controls Assistant and Damage Control Assistant.  Homeported in Charleston, SC, he completed three strategic patrols and a refueling overhaul in Charleston Naval Shipyard.

From 1987 to 1989 CAPT Brennan served as the Seventh Company Officer at the United States Naval Academy.  In addition to his normal duties, he served on the Admissions Board for the Class of 1992 and taught four semesters of leadership in the professional development department.

After graduating from the Submarine Officer Advanced Course in January 1990, CAPT Brennan reported as Navigator and Operations Officer of USS VON STEUBEN (SSBN 632)(G).  Homeported in Charleston, SC, he completed five strategic patrols including one to the Mediterranean Sea.

In April 1993, CAPT Brennan reported for duty in Omaha, NE at the United States Strategic Command.  He served as the submarine communications action officer in the C4I Directorate and as Executive Officer to the Director of Operations.  As a “Plank Owner” on the STRATCOM Staff, CAPT Brennan earned the Joint Meritorious Unit Award.

CAPT Brennan served as Executive Officer of USS BERGALL (SSN 667) from May 1995 to May 1996.  He participated in a Caribbean Sea deployment and inter-fleet transfer in support of BERGALL’s decommissioning.  He then reported for duty as Executive Officer of USS HAMPTON (SSN 767) in May 1996 and served until May 1997.  On HAMPTON, he participated in numerous local operations and exercises including Prospective Commanding Officer Operations twice.  Although both ships were homeported in Norfolk, VA, he split his tours between Norfolk and Bremerton, WA.

In May 1997, he reported for duty in the Submarine Warfare Division (N87) of OPNAV as the SEAWOLF Requirements/Action Officer and Congressional Liaison Officer.  He served in N87 until June 1999.

He assumed command of USS OLYMPIA (SSN 717), homeported in Pearl Harbor, HI in March 2000.  During his 30-month tour, OLYMPIA deployed to the Western Pacific in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and the VINSON Carrier Battle Group.  OLYMPIA earned the Navy Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation and was awarded the 2002 Battle Efficiency “E” from Submarine Squadron THREE.

In September 2002, he reported for duty in OPNAV as the Deputy Director, ASW Requirements (N74B).  He served as the Sea Shield ASW and Task Force ASW EA until June 2004.

CAPT Brennan served as Deputy Commander for Submarine Squadron TWO (CSS2) from June 2004 to June 2006.  CSS2 was responsible for preparing the six submarines assigned to the squadron for deployed operations in support of the Global War on Terror and other national tasking.  During this tour, he commanded USS PHILADELPHIA (SSN 690) from September to November 2005.

CAPT Brennan relived as the Commanding Officer of the Naval Weapons Station in Charleston on 18 August 2006.

CAPT Brennan is entitled to wear the Legion of Merit (two awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal (three awards) and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.

Crum, Michael Eugene — (8/12/05) I am currently working at Alcon Labs which is headquartered out of Fort Worth TX. I work in the Elkridge MD Distribution Center. As you can see my e-mail is [email protected] .

My wife (Sharon) and I just celebrated our 21 wedding anniversary this year. We have two children, Christopher who is heading to Virginia Tech to play baseball for the Hokies. Our daughter Lauren will be a sophomore at Severna Park High School. Laurens sporting interest is field hockey. So not matter what, we are running to either a school event or an athletic event.

Curry, Joan Elizabeth

Direnzo, Joseph – – E-mail 08/04/00: Am now stationed at Coast Guard Atlantic Area as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Operations. My wife Karen, who picked up O-5 in January is now the Nurse manager at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Both Joey (11) and Lauren (9) love their new home in Suffolk (its a lot warmer than Maine!) It will also be nice to be on shore duty. – – E-mail 3/16/99: Joe has his Change of Command on the 28th of May when he will step down from Commanding Officer USCGC JEFFERSON ISLAND, homeported in Portland Maine. He will transfer to San Diego for his next duty station as the Coast Guard Liaison to Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group One deployed to the Persian Gulf. It will be like coming home, as Joe hasn’t been involved with a carrier battle group since 1986, while still in the Navy. – – E-mail 12/20/97: Now the Commanding Officer of USCGC JEFFERSON ISLAND, homeported in Portland Maine. He took command on the 3rd of July and has already completed a deployment to the Caribbean on counterdrug ops. Joe’s wife Karen (LCDR, NC) is Director of Nursing at the Naval Medical Clinic at NAS Brunswick. Their children Joey (age 9) and Lauren (age 6 going on 27) love the area, are big into scouts and the YMCA swim team. There is always an open invitation both on the cutter and at the house for any 82 members.

I retired in 2004. This has allowed Debbie and I to be part of a missions trip last summer to Honduras. We’re looking forward to next year with a possible missions trip to Costa Rica. Jennifer is attending Kettering College of Medical Arts and is studying to be a Respiratory Therapist.

Hittle, Susan Lu

Joynson, Jack Edmund

Mabon, Kevin Lee – – E-mail 06/17/00: I got out in 1993 (JO tour Guitarro SD; prototype commando tour; DH tour Stonewall Jackson Charleston) and started a retail specialty toy store called “Imagine That!” in Wenatchee WA (apple country). We sell specialty toys like Brio, Learning Curve, Playmobil as well as funky stuff like rubber chickens. Lots of lessons learned here — but let’s summarize it as retail is a **REALLY** hard profession at which to make a good living. I have also stayed in the reserves and am currently the Training Officer for NR COMSUBPAC Det 320 at Bangor WA. Made the O-5 list this year. I got married to Ann Camp in 1991. Ann is a research scientist with the US Forest Service in Wenatchee. Ann’s daughter Caitlin, 13, is very much a 13 year old who is quite capable of tying up TWO phone lines at once. In August ’99 through January ’00, I was active duty at COMSUBPAC, working as Assistant Training Officer and later as acting N48 (Budget Analyst) (wish my store wrote checks with as many digits as the ones I did at COMSUBPAC!).

Matacotta, Ernest Albert – – 8/12/05: Ernest “Ernie” Matacotta 10th company. Colonel USMC Reserves- assigned as OIC MEPLO FEMA Region IV President/Owner : Pre-employment Screening Services, Inc. Residence: Marietta, GA 770-578-0635

McGrath, Rose Mary – – 4/13/2011–Things are pretty quiet in Carroll County, MD, where I live, and I seldom run across classmates anymore.  I’ve been a high school science teacher for the past eight years, and a mentor to a FIRST robotics team for the past five.  My two boys are involved in robotics, and it had pretty much become my hobby/second job.  Or maybe it’s my main job (without the pay) and I work as a teacher on the side to cover the bills – tough to say.  Anyone who has mentored one of these teams can relate.  It’s kind of addictive, and lots of fun, but I haven’t worked such long hours since I was on active duty.

I was able to get away a couple of retirements in the past few years, and was totally impressed by the careers of Dori (Zink) Freer, Jane (Treadway) Conley and Louis Meier.  I don’t have the pictures handy, and maybe they already sent you some??   I’ve missed a few others, I’m sure, since we’re at that stage.

I expect to see Dori at the FIRST Robotics Championship in St. Louis in two weeks.  She’ll be there with her daughter Kelli’s team from Connecticut.  Kelli will be off to USNA this summer, and I plan  to go for I-Day to see her sworn in.   My oldest is working on becoming some flavor of engineer, starting with the local community college offerings since he isn’t quite focused yet.  The younger one is a junior who applied for USNA summer seminar, so maybe I’ll be going to another I-Day next year.

By the way, I’m supposed to be the 10th CO rep, but the last email sent out for me is wrong.  I would not mind being contacted at my new address ([email protected]) for updates.  Teaching and robotics keep me on the run,  but I do get to my home email once in a while.

McGuire, Kevin Wayne – – May he rest in peace

Perez, Phillip A.

Reinhardt, Laurent C. G.

Richie, Terrell W.

Sesbeau, Mary Beth

Shigley, Paul R.

Spoerl, David Ross –12/5/03–I am living in Annapolis and teaching in the Math department at our favorite college.  My wife of 21+ years and I live near the bay bridge.  Our son is a sophomore at Maryland and our daughter is a senior in high school and hopes to be attending Florida Tech in the fall.  I am still working on my phd in Operations research, hopefully I will be done next summer.
