10 Romantic Things to Do on a Disney Cruise

It’s almost Valentine’s Day, people!  Are you ready?  Well you better get ready, because it’s coming!  According to your local Target’s seasonal aisles, it’s been coming since December 26 th .  So you’re behind!  You better make some plans.  Preferably some romantic plans with the one you love.  I’m here to help.  I have 10 cruise ideas for you.  Use them on Valentine’s Day or to make up for Valentine’s Day, it doesn’t matter!  Here are 10 ideas for romance on a Disney cruise .

2. Leave the Children at Home – Disney cruises are not just for families with children! I’ve done several adult-only cruises, two with just my husband and a few with groups of friends–and I’ve loved every one. If you want the ultimate romantic Disney cruise, leave your children at home, and get away by yourselves.  You won’t regret it!  Think about quiet mornings on the verandah sipping coffee together.  Blissfully alone!  Don’t forget to request a table for two in the main dining rooms!

3. Upgrade – One romantic surprise for your significant other is a secret upgrade! Upgrade from inside to a verandah and don’t tell them! Upgrade from a verandah to an amazing concierge room and keep it a secret.  Or how about a limo pulls up when you are waiting for the Disney transfer bus?  That would make someone awfully happy!  I’ll admit, it’s not going to be the easiest thing to keep some of those a secret, but the fact that it’s a surprise isn’t the most important part!  It’s that it’s happening!

5. Couples Massage – Disney has several options for a couples massage in the award winning Senses Spa ! There are Swedish massages onboard and Swedish massages on Castaway Cay . There’s a “Couples Choice” with a spa treatment of your choice, a “Romantic Hideaway” with upgraded treatment options, and an “Ultimate Indulgence” with a facial and massage for couples.  Most of these are designed with romance in mind.  This may be the time for you to indulge!

6. Watch the Sunset – What’s more romantic than a sunset? The Personal Navigator helps you out here, and lists the sunset time each day. Plan to be outside at that time with that special someone.  Take a stroll on deck 4, relax on your verandah, or head to the top deck and enjoy the gorgeous view!

7. Dress Up On Formal Night – Some people hate dressing up, some people love it. I highly recommend it every once in a while! It’s hard not to feel good about yourself, and the one you’re with, when you’ve put some effort into your appearance and are dressed to the nines!  Or whatever your version of the nines is.

9. Nightcap in a Lounge – Disney has some beautiful lounges onboard their ships, and it’s not hard to find a quiet corner to get away and spend time with each other. Skyline , which can be found on both the Fantasy and Dream, is one of my favorite places in the evenings. We are teetotalers, but we still love to sit and enjoy our Shirley Temples while we watch the skylines change.  Ooh La La on the Fantasy is also a gorgeous place to get away.  On the Magic I’d pick Keys in the evenings, and on the Wonder it would be the Cadillac Lounge .  If your idea of romance is nighttime adult only shows and dancing, that will usually be in the Tube on the Fantasy, Evolution on the Dream, Azure on the Wonder, and Fathoms on the Magic.  There’s something for everyone!

Oh, this makes me want to go on another Disney cruise right now. My husband and I don’t have kids and found the Disney cruise much more amenable to adults only activities than WDW – lots of adults only options.

And how sweet that you’re that excited about your son getting engaged. Not every mother in law feels the same about sharing their son. 😉

Go right now, Leslie! Haha! I agree. Lots of adult only options on the cruise. It’s surprisingly easy to get away from the children if you want to!

Ah, thank you! We are definitely excited!

These are not on the website yet. Not under RSP or buy it now.

' src=

They were on there earlier. I looked a few hours ago

' src=

Cathy, These items are available from DCL’s general Gift and Amenities store , not the maiden voyage pre-sale site.

' src=

The items are unavailable on the DCL website. Will there be another opportunity to purchase any of the embarkment sets? If so, when? Is there another way to purchase the items?

Great question. I would keep checking back to see availability returns.

' src=

‘Set a course for adventure ‘? Sounds like copyright infringement. Direct quote from the Love Boat theme which belongs to Princess cruises. Surprising since Disney is so protective of their brand.Just reinforces my feelings that imagination is dead.

' src=

I see them. Are you in a Wish sailing? If so, click on your reservation and you can see the items under the gifts section.

' src=

I’m guessing they are sold out now bc I don’t see them anymore.

Possible pulled due to the number of guests having issues ordering the items.

' src=

I’m unable to find anything for Wish on website

' src=

Maybe sold out. I was able to purchase an item yesterday, but the Wish items are no longer showing on the site.

I’m furious that everything sold out in a matter of hours. Disappointed in Disney!!! Please offer the pre voyage items again!!

' src=

Good News!! They aren’t out of anything!!! I just called DCL earlier and selected the option of website trouble. Only had to wait 4 minutes, the sweet girl that helped me took my order for both my July MV cruise and my October cruise. So they are not out of any of the new packages–they are just continuing to have “computer glitches”!! So either try the website trouble option or here is another phone number that was on my amenity email. 1-800-601-8455. Happy ordering!!

Thank you so much for this! I have been stalking the website to no avail, but I called today and got it ordered. 🙂

' src=

kkDid you get Scotts prices or DCL prices that were more?

There is false information on this sight as the cruise line prices are different. the set sail package is 85.00 plus tax making it 90.95. scott shows only 70.00 You can order by phone with long hold wait.

I would not call the information false, I’d say it is out of date if indeed the prices are now different. The prices listed are the price that were listed the day these were online back in mid-May.

Thank you my error

' src=

Can we still call and place an order? Wondering why it isn’t back on the site yet

' src=

I just called the number suggested above (1-800-601-8455, press option 1 for website help)) and was able purchase the comfort set on the phone. The agent had to hunt a little to find the merchandise number but was able to locate it. The prices have gone up since they were initially announced (now $89 vs $74). Good luck!

' src=

I can’t even get into the onboard gifts site to order or see anything. But called and got the set sail decor.

Just remember that the prices have changed. The lower the stock, the higher the price.

' src=

The prices have definitely changed. I just ordered the celebration room decorations package and it’s now just over $101 with tax

' src=

I was able to order the “set sail” package today by calling. The castmember had to search for it. The price today was $90.95.

' src=

Can someone show me what the Holiday Wish Decor Package looks like?

' src=

Do you know what the Set Course for Adventure room decor (1259) looks like?

Walt Disney World for Couples

Disney World for Couples

by Alexondra Lee

Most people don’t think of romance when they think of a Walt Disney World vacation, but I beg to differ. There are secret, hidden gems for couples to indulge in and around every corner of the mouse’s world. When the magic of the kingdom intersects with the romance of a loving couple, the possibilities are endless. So let me give you the best of the best when it comes to finding romantic enchantment in the most magical place on earth.

Best Places To Stay at Disney World for Couples

First off, if you’re coming to the mouse’s house with your significant other, you will want to splurge on your accommodations. Some of the  Disney resorts  can make it feel as though you are on your  honeymoon  all over again.

The highest on the list to cast love’s spell is Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort which is truly the fairest in the land. With its incredibly opulent, romantic lobby and enchanting live orchestra that fills the air nightly, just checking in can seem like a fairy tale. The rooms are majestic and nostalgic. In addition, an absolutely gorgeous spa offers a couple’s massage for both of you to relax those tired muscles after hours in the theme parks.

Best Disney Resorts for Couples

Animal Kingdom Lodge & Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

Another wonderful option for couples is The Animal Kingdom Lodge. A room overlooking the savanna will never disappoint. Sit out on your balcony under the stars, have a glass of wine, and listen to the crunch of munching trees while the giraffes have dinner just a few feet from your room. The sights and sounds are nearly impossible to beat.

Lastly, for an epic indulgence, the Polynesian bungalows take exotic passion to the next level. These extravagant floating villas have the most awe-inspiring view of the Cinderella castle across Bay Lake. Taking in the fireworks from your own secluded veranda on the water is as enthralling as it gets. If he hasn’t proposed yet, chances are you won’t get to check out time without a ring on your finger.

Always call the hotel before you check in to let them know if you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or any special occasion – chances are good your Disney resort may just make a trademark “magical moment” happen upon check-in.

Best Restaurants for a Romantic Dinner

There is a plethora of lovely dining experiences to be had, but it takes a little know-how to find those secret gems away from the crowds.

California Grill is high on the list for spectacular food and an unparalleled view. Having a delectable meal for two overlooking the best view of Cinderella’s Castle doesn’t get much better until… the lights dim and you step out onto their private rooftop to watch the fireworks – music and all.

Reservations are hard to come by, but don’t let that stop you! You can go right up to the bar and eat from the full menu. The bar is lovely, comfortable, and every bit as romantic.

Romance in the Magic Kingdom Park

If you happen to be feeling amorous and you find yourself in the middle of The Magic Kingdom, there is a fantastically magical place to enjoy the romance – The  Be Our Guest Restaurant . Not only will you meet Beast in his castle, but the food is really delicious – get the wine flight and the scallop entrée – wonderful! Be sure to request the Rose Room in order to get the most romantic table in the house. Trust me; you won’t be sorry.

Another option is the San Angel Inn in the Mexico pavilion. Again, arrive early and ask for a table that is waterfront. Feasting on scrumptious fajitas and spicy margaritas is delish. Still, the view is everything – watching the charming boats of The Three Caballeros float by and into the tunnel of love makes this an absolutely idyllic spot.

Best Disney World Restaurants for Couples

When you check-in and ask for a special waterfront table, they will tell you to wait – and you should – the wait is never as long as they tell you, and it is so worth it. Use those spare minutes to browse the marketplace for some of the cutest keepsakes at Epcot!

Lastly, for the ultimate splurge, take an afternoon nap, shower off the park, throw on some high heels, and head over to Victoria’s and Albert’s. The word of the day here is indulgence. Order champagne, caviar, and the tasting menu, and prepare to be swept off your feet.

Best Rides for Romance

Disney World Couples Vacation

There are scary, fast, fun, relaxing, and… romantic rides. At the top of my list is Na’vi River Journey. Grab the front row and melt into your significant other’s shoulder as you peacefully float down a psychedelic river of color and relaxation.

The Three Caballeros is another romantic slow boat ride but with a funny, exotic flair – grab the last row and watch the antics of these 3 crazy gentlemen.

Spaceship Earth gives you and your love a private journey into the past and future while smoothly floating through the world’s largest golf ball.

And, the most classic of them all, The Haunted Mansion. This is the perfect spot to wrap your arms around your loved one and feign absolute fright to get many more cuddles. Being scared has never been so romantic.

Don’t set an alarm, don’t rope drop, don’t wake up at 6 am – that’s not romantic! Instead, sleep in, relax, and come around at your own pace. The busiest times at the parks are 11 am -3 pm. So instead, use the morning to order room service and go to the pool. Reserve your fast passes for later in the day and head to Disney parks in the afternoon or at night – it’s emptier, cooler, and so romantic when the twinkle lights come on.

Best Bars at Walt Disney World for Couples

Disney World has so many fun, exciting bars; where do I begin? For super lively, entertaining bars, how about a themed bar? The magic bar, Abracadabar on the Boardwalk, has all the nostalgic mystery of an old-timey Houdini haunt. The Tiki Room at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has volcanos that explode every few minutes and drinks big enough to fit your head in. The Tutto Gusto wine-tasting bar in Italy Pavilion is an Italian wine lover’s paradise. Finally, the Jelly Rolls dueling piano bar on The Boardwalk will have you and your partner belting out Sinatra.

If you need a break while in the park, try The Brown Derby’s outside patio bar at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This spot not only has spectacular cosmopolitans, but you can order the famous cobb salad while indulging in the BEST people-watching anywhere. A little hidden gem is the Restaurantosaurus Lounge in Dinoland at Animal Kingdom – they have great cold drinks and a fantastic cheese dip.

But for the best of the best and a little bit of everything, just simply drink around the world at Epcot.

My absolute favorite spot is Les Vins des Chefs de France at the France Pavilion – you must get the Grey Goose Citron Lemonade Slush. It is so delicious and refreshing. Lastly, be sure to take a seat right next to the kiosk for the most romantic and peaceful view of the lake and Spaceship Earth. Heavenly!

Most Romantic Experiences at Walt Disney World Resort for Couples

After my fiancé’s first trip to Disney with me, the number one thing he raved about more than anything was the Savor the Savannah Private VIP Safari Tour. This experience is unparalleled if you love seeing wild, exotic animals up close and having beautiful cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. This is all while watching the sunset from a luxury villa in the middle of the savanna. You heard that right – it’s real and as amazing as it sounds. It was worth every penny, and it was unforgettable.

Romatic Disney World

Another extraordinary experience for couples is renting a boat from the Yacht Club Resort to head out to the middle of the lake to experience the Epcot fireworks. You will indulge in every luxury possible as a private boat driver takes you and your love (and 8 of your friends if you choose) on a pontoon into the heart of Epcot’s lake for the best view of the best fireworks on earth – IMHO. This is pure romance and a once and lifetime experience.

Disney offers some classic experiences throughout the year that can make your couples’ trip that much more special: The  Food and Wine Festival  is a must-do and is ideal for couples to love or hate new and exotic foods together. The dessert parties are worth the splurge to sit and relax together, enjoying decadent desserts while having attained the best seat in the house for the fireworks. Finally,  Disney After Hours  events are the perfect time for couples to enjoy the theme park and spend a little alone time on their favorite rides.

Now I know it’s not technically Disney, but it’s very close. Discovery Cove is such a hidden gem and a truly exhilarating experience. You sign up for the day, and you and your partner get to swim and frolic with dolphins! It is magical, unparalleled, and totally worth it.

So, yes, we know the  kids love Disney , but every now and then, if you look hard enough, you will find a quiet corner for two, just waiting for you and your one true love.

Has anyone done the Romance at Sea package?

Cool Cruiser

Do you know if they make the reservations at Palo & the spa for you? Or do they leave that to you. For the $$ they should do all that for you.

Was it worth the money?

How was the quality of the bathrobes you received?

We did it several years ago. It has changed a lot since we booked it. Before you had breakfast and champagne, couples massage, Palo and something else. Some type of gift.

We loved it and to be honest DH booked it for my birthday so we could get a good Palo reservation. We wound up eating there twice on a 3 day cruise.

Yup, that is exactly what we got (the gift was the DCL picture frame/holder thingy, right?) We also did it for the Palo reservations (for the record I hated my massage!).

We would not pay the price for it today. First, too expensive and second, now you can book Palo on line, back then you couldn't.

We are doing the reas pkg. You make your own reservations at the 105 day mark. Apparently the quality of the robes has gone down and the couples massage was removed. We still felt it was worth it however just for the early booking advantage.
May I ask the price you paid for it??

Five essential things to know before you board a Disney cruise ship

E ver since the giant Disney corporation brought its enchanting brand of magic to the high seas aboard Disney Cruise Line (DCL) in 1998, with Captain Mickey Mouse at the helm, it’s been plain sailing.

The Disney fleet has since grown to five mid-size ships (with more to come) which resemble floating versions of the entertainment giant’s famous theme parks, fun-packed with full-on entertainment programmes.

Elegant décor and classical styling brings an upscale feel that gives a nod to the golden age of sea travel, building on Disney’s appeal which extends beyond youngsters, who make up its natural audience, to grown-ups who can enjoy the surprisingly-extensive child-free areas on each ship. On-board attractions – water-coaster rides, nightly Disney-themed musicals, artwork that bursts into life and a real-time talking turtle – exemplify the innovative twists this legendary brand is renowned for.

Such frills translate into cruises which are generally higher priced than other family-friendly lines, but such is the cost of tapping into a world where onboard experiences are sprinkled with fairy dust.

1. Where does Disney cruise?

The line’s mainstays are the Caribbean and the Bahamas, which can be twinned with stays at Florida’s Walt Disney World. These particular cruises invariably include calls to the line’s  private island Castaway Cay where Mickey and pals don their beach shorts to spread the fun feel ashore with boat rides, barbecues, beach sports and snorkelling.

This summer marked the opening of its second Bahamian retreat, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point on the island of Eleuthera. The Mediterranean and Northern Europe are other key areas for summer cruising with “Frozen”-style voyages to the Norwegian fjords, Scandinavia and around the UK.

Disney Dream has been based at Southampton this summer and will be replaced by Disney Fantasy next year for sailings from three nights upwards to Channel ports, around the UK, Norway, Scandinavia, France and Spain.

There are also cruises to Alaska from Vancouver and to America’s West Coast, Mexico , and the South Pacific.

This winter will be the line’s second season in Australia and New Zealand, while Disney Adventure will be based in Singapore for at least five years from 2025 for voyages around south-east Asia. There are also plans for a Disney ship to homeport in Japan from 2029.

2. Who does it appeal to?

It could be argued that Disney is the ultimate family cruise line, standing out as truly family-centric rather than family-friendly for putting youngsters and their parents at the heart of everything it does.

The line takes infants from six months upwards, catered for with nurseries and play areas. Children’s facilities are varied and numerous, with imaginative kids’ clubs and cool teen hangouts, along with gameshows and competitions aimed at the entire family. On deck are waterslides and giant poolside screens showing Disney movies.

Disney adds its inimitable feel to sailings in a way that no other line does, with personal touches when guests step aboard and are publicly announced and greeted by an applauding guard of honour made up of crew or “cast members”.

One of the biggest USPs and causes of excitement is the appearance of Disney characters around the ship, while regular character meet and greet sessions are another guaranteed crowd-puller.

Such is Disney’s appeal that it also attracts couples and friends, who enjoy the overall attractions of the ships, but can retreat to the sophisticated adult-only bars, restaurants, pool and spa areas.

3. The Disney Cruise Line fleet

Disney magic  (2,713 passengers).

DCL’s first ship set the scene with its smart black hull, red funnels and Art Deco interiors, albeit with nautical twists and hints of Captain Mickey incorporated into designs. It also pioneered Disney’s family-friendly cabin staple of split ensuites with a bath/shower room and separate loo. Highlights include the high-speed AquaDunk waterslide and Twist ‘n’ Spout slide, AquaLab water play area and family pool.

Sails to: Bahamas, Caribbean

Disney Wonder (2,713 passengers)

Having launched in 1999, this ship is virtually identical to its older sister and has also been revamped with Art Nouveau interiors. The three main restaurants are Animator’s Palate, Triton’s from the Little Mermaid, and Tiana’s Place inspired by The Princess and the Frog. The French Quarter Lounge carries a New Orleans vibe. There is a Twist ‘n’ Spout waterslide, there is no AquaDunk.

Sails to: Alaska, Hawaii, South Pacific

Disney Dream (4,000 passengers)

Launched in 2011, this ship came with new attractions including AquaDuck, a water-coaster that snakes around the top deck, while Animator’s Palate is even more magical with Crush, an animated turtle who converses with diners. Inside cabins have “virtual portholes” showing real-time footage from outside, spiced up with appearances of Disney characters. There’s adult-only French gourmet restaurant Remy, a fancy champagne bar called Pink and the Skyline bar with a changing cityscape backdrop.

Sails to: Caribbean, Bahamas, Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Norwegian Fjords

Disney Fantasy (4,000 passengers)

Virtually identical to Disney Dream, this ship was launched in 2012. The main difference is the décor which is more Art Nouveau rather than Disney Dream’s Art Deco styling. Others include a different themed water play area and a different show in Animator’s Palate where, instead of Crush the turtle, diners can design their own animated characters that come to life on the screens.

Sails to: Bahamas, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Northern Europe

Disney Wish (4,000 passengers)

Launched in 2022, it ushered in more modern styling and was the first Disney ship to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). New features included the AquaMouse water-coaster ride and interactive family experience Disney Uncharted Adventure. New dining options include Arendelle, a Frozen-themed “dining adventure”, a Marvel cinematic dining experience and 1923 (the year Walt Disney Studios was founded) evoking the glamour of Old Hollywood.

Disney Treasure (4,000 passengers)

Due to launch in December 2024, this ship is most similar to Disney Wish, but will be inspired by Disney stories such as Aladdin, Coco and Zootopia, with one of the three main restaurants, Plaza de Coco, a theatrical dining experience based on the film. The AquaMouse water-coaster ride comes with a new storyline, while the adult-only Periscope Pub takes its inspiration from the Disney film, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Sails to: Caribbean, Bahamas

Disney Adventure (6,700 passengers) and Disney Destiny (capacity not yet announced)

Both ships are due to join the Disney fleet in 2025, with Disney Adventure based in Singapore for five years. A third new ship has been slated to join the fleet from 2029, based in Japan year-round.

Sails to: Asia (Disney Adventure). Disney Destiny destinations have not yet been announced

4. Access for guests with disabilities

Disney ships offer specially-adapted accessible staterooms, including ones on Disney Wish and Disney Treasure that have built-in communication features for guests with hearing disabilities. Most guest areas are accessible for wheelchair users and pool lifts can be arranged in advance.

5. Loyalty programme

The Castaway Club has four tiers, based on the number of sailings taken. Benefits include advance booking benefits, discounts and a complimentary dinner.

I was checking out packages I could have delivered to our stateroom. I saw one with bathrobes. Has anyone bought one? Wondering of quality.

yes- bought them, happy with quality

What material is it? Does it have the Disney Logo.

Earning my ears.

They are 100% polyester and have the DCL logo on them. If I were to shop for a robe IRL, this robe wouldn't have been my selection. However, as part of the romance package on a cruise taken to celebrate our anniversary, it was a nice surprise.

<font color=darkgreen>Nuts are good<br><font color

It is a one-size fits all terry cloth robe w/ logo, and we have two from the Romance Package. DH bought a nicer/bigger one in the shops for I think $150??? DS really likes my robe, wears it every night after his bath. I should take DH's from the romance package, as DS isn't likely to give mine back.

It is so soft and cosy. Also washes up like a dream. We love them.

Just FYI, You can also borrow a robe during your stay on board. Just ask your SR host. Free of charge. I love having a robe to lounge in, but did not need one a new one for home, so I just borrowed one.

I've seen varying topics on this. Some say only Concierge level rooms get robes and that the staff doesn't have access to them. Was the one you received from your room host the satin lined one or was it the waffle grid one? I did read that you can get the waffle ones from the Spa and just leave it in your room when you leave the ship. I bought the wife the package with 2 robes, Prosecco, rose and chocolates (as a surprise, SHHH) since we sort of skipped any anniversary gifts this year and had the cruise booked.

Ok you guys talked me into it I just ordered the romance for 2 alcohol one. 125 dollars 133.75 with the tax. I don't wear a robe but the second one was only 36 dollars more I think it was. You pay for it when you order it.

I just don't get how there are no real pictures of these package robes anywhere. I still haven't figured out what style they are (waffle grid vs typical robe.) The lady on the phone said that they ordered the same package on their last cruise and they were extremely plush and soft and that the package was much better than buying one robe in the gift shop (completely unsolicited review by her.) I was already committed to buying it. She almost made it sound like they have changed the robes to similar ones in the gift shop on-board. I don't know. Either way it'll be a nice surprise and keepsake for our first trip with DCL .

Disney is betting big on cruises. This is why it needs to.

  • Disney Cruise Line has big plans to expand its five-ship fleet.
  • The company plans to debut eight ships over the next seven years, including its first two in Asia.
  • Disney also launched its second private port, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

Insider Today

If you had a genie, what would your three wishes be? If one is going on a Disney cruise , you're in luck — you'll have more opportunities to do so soon.

On Sunday, Disney Cruise Line announced an order for four ships to be delivered between 2027 and 2031 — on top of the four vessels already set to debut through 2029.

These eight vessels would more than double Disney's five-ship fleet in seven years.

Disney hasn't announced many details of its latest order, but it has tapped the German company Meyer Werft to build the four ships. Meyer Werft said it was the "highest order value" in the shipyard's history.

The shipyard also constructed Disney's latest three vessels and is constructing the Disney Treasure and the Disney Destiny, scheduled to debut at the end of 2024 and in 2025.

Disney Cruise Line is also growing its footprint in Asia and the Bahamas

Two of the eight ships would have their home ports in Asia , a first for the cruise company: Disney Adventure, scheduled to debut in Singapore in 2025, and another unnamed ship, set to be operated in Japan by Oriental Land Company, which runs Disney's theme parks in the country.

Related stories

"The cruise ships tend to pay back very quickly," Hugh Johnston, Disney's senior executive vice president and chief financial officer, told analysts in August. "We certainly feel positive about those investments."

In the background of this fleet expansion, Disney Cruise Line also launched its second private destination in the Bahamas, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, in June. The new port and the cruise line's first private island , Castaway Cay, are scheduled for more than 70% of Disney's 442 voyages in 2025.

It's a great time for the entertainment giant to bet big on its vacation-at-sea business. Major cruise companies have been experiencing record bookings and demand in 2024.

Disney said in its quarterly earnings that it had seen "strong demand" in its cruise arm, with onboard spending increasing throughout the summer. That could help offset some of its amusement parks' 3% drop in operating income from the same time last year, which it attributed to a "moderation of consumer demand" that surpassed the company's expectations — in step with competitors like Six Flags and Universal.

"The lower-income consumer is feeling a little bit of stress," Johnston told analysts. "The high-income consumer is traveling internationally a bit more." Hopefully, for the company's sake, by cruise ship.

While cruises are often grouped into the all-inclusive vacation category, exact inclusions can vary by line — and it's important that you know exactly what you're getting before you book. “The question most people ask when booking their first cruise vacation is, ‘What is included in my base cruise fare?' The answer is relatively simple: food, drinks, entertainment, kids/teens clubs, and recreational activities,” says Nikki Kennedy , a travel advisor at Marvelous Mouse Travels . “However,” she adds, “it truly depends on the cruise line.”

Ahead, we’ve tapped several cruise advisors to weigh in — and we’ve rounded up our favorite all-inclusive cruise lines and tips for picking the best one to suit your specific travel preferences.

As we mentioned above, inclusions vary by cruise line. Travel + Leisure A-list advisor Mary Curry explains, “As a general rule , small-ship cruises tend to be more inclusive than large ships. Often, they will include the shore excursions and even, on many, the alcohol on board.” In some cases, extra perks like gratuities and Wi-Fi are included.

Meanwhile, mainstream mega-ship ocean lines like Royal Caribbean , Norwegian Cruise Line, and Carnival Cruise Line offer excellent value since they include meals (usually excluding specialty dining), accommodations, and select onboard entertainment, activities, and facilities (including kids clubs). Many aren’t technically all-inclusive; however, per Jennifer Travis , another travel advisor at Marvelous Mouse Travels, passengers can upgrade their vacation package or purchase add-ons in advance that include perks like drinks, specialty dining, or Wi-Fi, to name a few.

While specifics will vary depending on the cruise line, Travis notes that many “do not include beverages (soda, tea, coffee, wine, spirits, etc.), specialty restaurants, Wi-Fi, or gratuities as part of the base cost of the cruise.” That said, she says that Virgin Voyages is among the only large-ship lines that include “non-alcoholic beverages, Wi-Fi, gratuities, and all restaurants as part of the base fare package.”

When it comes to small-ship cruise lines, Curry explains that it’s optional services, such as “premium alcohol, laundry, travel insurance, or satellite telephone,” that aren’t typically included since “only a select number of guests onboard” will utilize them.

On the contrary, “Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruise Line, and Princess Cruise Lines all offer upgrade packages that come with an additional cost that you can add on to your cruise and pay over time so that you have more of an all-inclusive package by the time you board the ship.” Also, says Travis, other cruise lines, “such as Royal Caribbean and Carnival offer a la carte options such as beverages packages, Wi-Fi, and more that can be purchased after you book your cruise.” Meanwhile, Kennedy is quick to note that room service and evening childcare may also cost extra, depending on the line. Spa treatments cost extra, too.

Although they are typically more expensive, all-inclusive cruises provide excellent value and peace of mind for cruisers. Ahead, we’ve rounded up our favorite all-inclusive cruise lines, plus a few mega-ship lines that offer comprehensive add-on packages.

According to Curry, luxury cruise line Silversea “allows travelers to choose the fare category that best matches their desired inclusions from Door to Door to Essential (cruise only - excursions not included).” The former is among what she deems “the most inclusive in the industry” since fares include flights, a pre-cruise hotel stay, airport transfers, gratuities, a menu of shore excursions, gourmet dining, complimentary beverages, and butler service.

AmaWaterways

AmaWaterways is among Curry’s favorite all-inclusive river cruise lines since the company includes a selection of shore excursions in each port. “This is great for travelers who want a lot of variety as they can choose between foodie experiences, hiking, biking, traditional city tours, gondola rides, canal cruises, and more without having to weigh the costs,” she says. “I find that encourages travelers to choose the excursions that most interest them rather than feeling constrained to basic city tours included and having to pay extra for everything else.” Some alcoholic beverages are included, too, depending on the itinerary.

Uniworld Boutique River Cruises

Uniworld Boutique River Cruises, or Uniworld for short, is known for its all-inclusive sailings across four continents. Guests enjoy unlimited premium wine and spirits, fantastic farm-to-table fare, and a selection of curated excursions, including private after-hours tours of popular attractions along with hiking, cycling, kayaking, and golfing activities. Back on board, passengers enjoy ship-wide Wi-Fi, entertainment and enrichment offerings, fitness center access, and wellness classes. Gratuities and airport transfers are also included.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Small-ship luxury line Regent Seven Seas Cruises offers premium all-inclusive fares that come with a slew of perks, including unlimited shore excursions, unlimited alcoholic beverages, specialty dining, Wi-Fi, gratuities, valet laundry service, and more, plus included one-night pre-cruise hotel stays and butler service for guests staying in certain room categories.

Viking offers adults-only cruises to destinations around the world. Voyages include one complimentary shore excursion in every port of call; Wi-Fi; 24-hour coffees, teas, and bottled water; beer, wine, and soft drinks with onboard lunch and dinner; specialty dining; and lectures and entertainment.

Virgin Voyages

As previously mentioned, Virgin Voyages offers a slew of amenities included in the standard cruise fare, including access to all on-site restaurants (some of which would be considered specialty dining on other lines), as well as group fitness classes, Wi-Fi, gratuities, and what the company calls “essential drinks” (like coffee, tea, soda, and water). The onboard entertainment offerings — which run the gamut from live music to themed parties to acrobatic performances — add to the fun.

French cruise line Ponant offers luxury sailings across the globe, and, according to Curry, many sailings include dining, alcoholic beverages, unlimited Wi-Fi, and excursions on certain itineraries.

Honorable Mentions: Norwegian Cruise Line and Princess Cruises

“Norwegian Cruise Lines and Princess Cruises are my two favorite cruise lines when it comes to cruisers looking for that all-inclusive experience,” says Travis. She’s quick to call out Norwegian’s Free At Sea promotion, which includes an unlimited open bar, up to $180 in specialty dining savings, shore excursion credits, Wi-Fi, free third and fourth guests, and two-for-one airfare. Per the pro, “This is a huge value to consider for any cruiser."

Additionally, Travis explains that Princess has a similar offer with its Princess Premier package upgrade . For an additional $80 per person per day, the package includes Wi-Fi on up to four devices, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, gratuities, two specialty meals per sailing, unlimited premium desserts, room service, and fitness center access. This, she says, “makes the cruise experience as close to all-inclusive as possible.”

Consider your travel style.

To narrow down the best all-inclusive cruise to suit your needs, Curry recommends considering not only your travel style but also the “relative value you place on flexibility, convenience, independence, budget, and experience.” For example, “Some all-inclusive lines may require you to choose your shore excursions in advance while others will have more flexibility to book these onboard.” Similarly, while some have a large range of choices, others may only include one to two excursion options.

Factor in your non-negotiables.

What are your non-negotiables on a cruise? Ask yourself which amenities are most important to you and narrow down your options from there. For example, in Kennedy’s case, she prioritizes complimentary kids club access since she has three young children. Another person may prioritize included specialty dining or alcoholic beverages, which, per the advisor, can add up quickly.

Reach out to an expert.

Combing through the different choices can feel overwhelming, so consider reaching out to an experienced travel advisor. Curry especially recommends finding “an agent who represents a wide variety of options in an area” so that they can “truly provide objective advice tailored toward your specific interests.”
