REVIEW: British Airways Lounge Glasgow airport

This is a review of my visit to British Airways Lounge Glasgow airport in August 2023.

In this post:

Opening times and location of British Airways Lounge in Glasgow Airport

The British Airways Lounge Glasgow is open every day between 05:30 – 21:00 although according to the oneworld website it opens at 06:00. It is situated near Gate 15, towards the gates that BA use.

Access to British Airways Lounge in Glasgow Airport

This can be accessed by:

  • Business Class
  • First Class
  • Sapphire Tier
  • Emerald Tier
  • Access for eligible customers traveling on any oneworld member airline.

I thought the lounge looked modern and stylish compared to some of the other BA lounges in the UK. There was natural light from the windows and views of the apron, although it was partially obscured by blinds.

The staff at the entrance were welcoming, too. We had a slight delay, and the staff were good at keeping us informed and told us they would announce when the gate was ready for us to board.

As you enter, there is a display of High Life magazines, and several dining tables. I wasn’t really sure about the wooden display with fishing nets and empty plant pots.

British Airways Lounge Glasgow

There are different zones within the lounge with a range of seating from comfortable seats to dining tables and high tables.

In the front section of the lounge, there are dining tables and chairs as well as high stools along bars with sockets.

Further down the sides of the lounge were comfy seats with sockets.

British Airways Lounge Glasgow interior

In the centre was the main food and drinks display.

British Airways Lounge Glasgow inside

There was both hot and cold food, which I was slightly surprised by as I was expecting it to be mainly sandwiches after my visit to the Edinburgh lounge.

sandwiches at British Airways Lounge Glasgow

This was the sandwich selection:

British Airways Lounge Glasgow Menu

The salad selection was a little sparse, but the potato salad was OK, plus there was packaged cheese and oat biscuits. There was a reasonable range with Gloucester, Leicester, Cheddar, Camembert and Port Salut and a bowl of chutney.

British Airways Lounge Glasgow Food

Then, for the hot food, there was soup with a selection of bread and seeds for topping.

British Airways Lounge Glasgow Bread

There were also the standard BA pies, which I usually enjoy. One was pork and apple, and the other was spiced cauliflower with spinach and lentils. It could have done with better labelling as there was nothing to indicate which was which. I tried the spiced one, and it was tasty with a mild spice, but maybe it could have had a bit more filling.

British Airways Lounge Glasgow Buffet

There was also another butcher’s block with fairly typical BA fare, which did not look very appealing. But it didn’t help that it needed topping up. It was a Sri Lankan chicken curry with rice.

British Airways Lounge Glasgow Rice

The drinks were spread out a bit, so it required hunting down the white wine and fizz. I thought the selection was very good with some decent quality spirits like Tanqueray 10 and a couple of flavoured Ciroc vodkas. There was also the Zacapa XO rum, which is served in First as well. Other options included Port, Pimms, Tequila and Martini.

British Airways Lounge Glasgow Alcoholic Drinks

The red wines were displayed in this area, and there was a choice of four, which is not to be sniffed at (unless you are actually checking the wine!).

Alcohol

You may notice I have not mentioned whisky, well that’s because they have a special area to celebrate whisky, which is called the Bar & Snug.

Whisky

Alongside the crystal-look glasses, there were the following whiskies: Talisker Surge, Mortlach14, Johnnie Walker Red Label, The Singleton, Bulleit Bourbon and Roe & CO Irish Whisky. For some reason, there were also the standard BA biscuits here.

Red Label Whisky

If you wanted to sit in this area (not so far to go for a top up), there were high tables with attractive crystal pendant lights.

british airways travel shop glasgow

In the back part, there are some rather odd wooden chairs that didn’t really seem to match anything. There is also a TV here, which I have seen set to a fireplace scene when I visited before, but this time it was showing proper TV programs. It is a lovely little private area to enjoy your wee dram. Make sure you grab some Scottish tablet on the way to the snug!

wooden chairs

You can also find the white wine and Prosecco here. Champagne is also still available on request, but I didn’t try it on this visit. For white wine, there was a Stellenbosch Chardonnay, Greco di Tufo and Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. There was also a Bottega Prosecco and a rosé version too.

more wines at British Airways Lounge Glasgow

Towards the back of the lounge was the work area with a communal table with lots of charging sockets, including USB and European sockets.

Lounge

For some reason, the ice cream fridge was randomly here too! This had a dairy-free/vegan option of mango sorbet as well vanilla, chocolate and strawberries and cream.

Jude's Ice Cream

At the very back of the lounge were some high tables hidden away, which would be a good area for a phone call or if you want some peace and quiet.

british airways travel shop glasgow

I thought the lighting on the wooden wall panels was very effective, with a look of modern elegance.

There are no showers in the lounge, and the toilets are easy to miss. You need to take the stairs by reception as you come in. The toilets were relatively modern and clean.

All in all, I thought it was a good lounge, and I liked that they have made a feature of the whisky. So I’d say it is worth allowing time to pop into when flying from Glasgow.

Meanwhile at NCL, the ‘Perspire’ lounge is as grim as ever!

That’s a great nickname for it!

Thanks for the review

I think the Lounge opens a tad earlier than 06.00 although BA posts 6. It is certainly open at 5.30 from recent experience

Thanks Tom. I just went by the official hours, makes you wonder why BA can’t update it!

Thank you for this review – the lounge looks pretty good, for what I think is a fairly small airport (I have been through it a couple of times, but back in the mists of time, and before I could afford to fly business).

I wanted to say sorry if people are leaving mean comments – please don’t let these get to you :(. This website and blog (and the FB group) is a great resource and personally I’ve learnt so much from it, since joining in 2019.

I am just back from a 5-day BA holiday to Helsinki – where I am hopefully about to get double tier points to start redeeming my silver card. I also (thanks to your blog) chose flights that had the flat beds. On the outbound last week it was a normal old seat, but yesterday morning I used ‘the Lounge’. I thought it was great – really liked that it was like a sofa – I couldn’t work out how to move the small bit into position on the bed but eventually got there. Two great flights with Finnair – will definitely be using them again for flights to Asia. Helsinki airport (and the Finns in general) is also a joy compared to the UK>

Anyway that is all thanks to you…my only feedback would be that some of the articles need a bit of proof reading as there can be a lot of typos..but a that’s a v minor point in the grand scheme of things.

Have a great day!

Thanks Lou. So glad you managed to get the air lounge. That little bit that folds out is pretty fiddly. I sometimes can’t get it to go down again! The typos are tricky as I use Grammarly but it is very temperamental with wordpress and you don’t always notice that it is not working. But I will do my best.

For a variety of reasons, not all BA related, I spent 6 hours 28 minutes in the Glasgow BA lounge in late July. Have to say the staff were amazingly helpful and fun to be with as the time ambled by. Lunch, afternoon tea and dinner all generously and appropriately accompanied ensured that what could have been a grim day, turned out rather memorable. Big thumbs up to all at Glasgow.

Thanks for the reviews and of this Glasgow one. One thing not mentioned is the noise from chairs being dragged across the hard floors. I’ve written repeatedly to BA and asked them to put rubber cups on chairs as people never lift chairs. The noise is excruciating especially when the lounge is relatively quiet. Do you have influence with BA on such an issue? Keep up the good work.

Sadly I don’t have any influence generally on the lounges as they are usually contracted out by BA. I can’t say I noticed it ti be honest but then it wasn’t that busy when I was there. Glad you enjoyed the reviews!

The Champagne is definitely available on request and as previous post states it’s open 5 30. Staff always helpful too.

Thanks Wendy. I’ll update it.

Great review especially as I’ll be there next week 🙂

They pack a lot into a relatively small space but you missed the best bit – the tablet.🤣

Tucked in a small alcove near the whisky snug with enough sugar in one piece to have you flying down to London without the need of a plane.

Oh no! I love tablet. So annoyed I missed it. Thanks for the tip!

Those sandwiches don’t sound super appealing, but it actually looks pretty decent! Especially if you compare to the Aer Lingus lounges at DUB or LHR where the food offering is at best pitiful. And thanks for the tip on where to find the toilets. Must know stuff!!

Thanks GM. Yes I would say it is nicer than the LHR Galleries South lounge but the T5B lounge is now really good since its refurbishment and new food!

Thanks. It looks like it has been done up since we were there at 10 am last October. Steer clear of that time when a scanty breakfast offering of croissants and biscuits was all that was provided…and it was quite cramped.

It’s a good little lounge. The sandwich fillings are actually more interesting than you get the First lounge at LHR T5 as they seem to get a more varied selection at GLA than the repetitive fare on offer down south.

What is the British Airways Lounge in Glasgow like these days? Here’s a review!

What is the British Airways Lounge in Glasgow like these days? Here’s a review!

After the scrum of check-in, I passed swiftly through priority security and headed to the gates. The lounge is then a little walk away, but easy to find with its big blue surrounds.

The BA Lounge In Glasgow

It’s a really nicely thought out space and after my boarding pass was checked, I headed into the lounge proper. There are various different types of seating on either side of the lounge, with the food serving areas located in the central area.

A Plentiful Breakfast

When a lounge doesn’t skimp on the food offering, I’m generally very happy. There is not much worse than visiting a so called premium lounge and finding a couple of sad bags of crisps. Luckily the British Airways lounge in Glasgow has plenty of food available.

How About Lunch?

My flight was delayed, so I ended up being in the lounge when the lunch spread arrived. It turns out there are sandwiches! The sign says, Tuna Mayonnaise in White, Double Egg and Cress in Malt, Bacon Lettuce and Tomato, Pesto Mozzarella Tomato and Rocket, and BBQ Chicken Tortilla. Yummo!

Overall Thoughts

I like the British Airways lounge in Glasgow. It hits all the right notes for me, with friendly staff, a decent amount of quality choices when it comes to the food and an interesting layout. Happy days for anyone passing through Scotland’s largest city.

The only downside during the visit was the Wi-Fi was not working. It was the day after the monthly code change and neither old nor new worked, so we had to use the airport service instead. No big deal! Sadly, a lot of BA lounges have been closed for good after the pandemic (boo!), but those that remain still manage to have some razzle dazzle. Let’s hope they all stay put.

What are the entry requirements?

My wife and I are flying out to Vegas in the near future. GLA-LHR-LAS and we are Business Class (Club Europe/Club World) for the trip.

Does the Club Europe leg from GLA – LHR permit us access to the lounge at GLA?

I’m sure the Club World from LHR to LAS will get us into the LHR T5 Lounge but not sure about GLA.

The Flight Detective

Club Europe passengers are entitled to lounge access, so you will have access to the British Airways Lounge in Glasgow. You will also, as you correctly state, have access to three lounges at Terminal 5. The Galleries North, Galleries South and the Galleries in the satellite T5B. Have a great trip!

Simple Flying recently attended part of the Boeing Innovation Forum in Glasgow, where the US manufacturer displayed its latest 'ecoDemonstrator .' Getting to the event involved an hour-long domestic hop with UK flag carrier British Airways, originating at its Heathrow hub. Let's take a look at how the flight went, and what you can expect from BA on this route.

A key domestic destination

London to Glasgow is a key UK domestic corridor for both the aviation and rail industries. It is directly served by two airlines (BA and easyJet) and three train companies. British Airways flies to Scotland's most populous city from three of London's airports.

These are Heathrow, Gatwick, and London City . Simple Flying traveled up to Glasgow on a Tuesday. This particular day of the week typically sees six departures from its Heathrow hub, as well as three from City, and one from Gatwick. BA also flies to Belfast City from Glasgow, as well as internationally to Palma de Mallorca on a seasonal basis.

Stay informed:   Sign up  for our daily and weekly aviation news digests.

The particular flight that I took up to Glasgow earlier this week was numbered as BA1476. According to data from RadarBox.com , this service operates four times a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday). It has a planned departure time of 10:10, and is scheduled to arrive at Scotland's second-busiest airport 90 minutes later at 11:40.

The aircraft involved

The aircraft that operated my flight up to Glasgow was an Airbus A320-200 that bore the registration G-EUYA. According to data from ch-aviation.com , this 12.93-year-old twinjet has been with BA for its entire career. It first flew on November 5th, 2008, and the UK flag carrier took delivery of the 180-seat narrowbody 19 days later, on the 24th.

As of July 31st, 2021, G-EUYA had accumulated a total of 26,435 flight hours over 16,030 cycles. this gives an average cycle length of one hour and 39 minutes. Based on an average of 2074.11 annual hours across 1,258 cycles a year, its average daily usage amounts to five hours and 41 minutes. Its market value, according to ch-aviation's data, is $15.8 million.

On the ground at Heathrow

I arrived at Heathrow just after eight in the morning, whereupon I briefly got stuck in a lift with some other passengers! Following this, I was able to get through all the formalities at Terminal 5 fairly quickly. With Glasgow being a domestic route, traveling there doesn't entail the same paperwork levels that going aboard in the current climate can demand.

With no checked baggage, I was able to head straight to security, which was rather more comprehensive than my last flight from the tiny St Mary's Airport in Cornwall ! I did have to queue for a few minutes, but, with plenty of time to spare, I was able to reflect on the potential recovery for the industry that the presence of such crowds suggests.

After security, I was able to take in my traditional Giraffe airport breakfast. While not a significant part of the journey, it was nice to be able to return to a routine that used to be a  more common occurrence in the pre-pandemic era. Our flight boarded from gate A23 which, while fairly distant, was at least closer than the satellite B and C concourses.

There were a total of nine boarding groups on my flight on Tuesday. Despite being in the seventh group, and the service being more or less full, I was able to find ample overhead space for my carry-on. There were eight rows of Club Europe, which hinted at the beginnings of a recovery for business travel despite the advent of technology like Zoom.

My seat was 21A, between the overwing exits and the rear doors. I found its legroom to be slightly lacking, although, at 6'1, I am around four inches taller than the average UK male. While this wasn't a problem on a short domestic hop, it is worth considering that G-EUYA has also recently operated flights of nearly three hours to Italy, Portugal, and Spain.

We pushed back at 10:15, with a remote-controlled tug doing the honors. Takeoff from Heathrow's runway 27R took place at 10:34, following a lengthy taxi from the western end of the UK's busiest airport. After takeoff, I noticed that WiFi was available at one of two prices (see above). However, I didn't feel the need to be online during the short flight.

Simple Flying reported in July that British Airways had brought back buy onboard catering for its short-haul flights. However, in addition to this, passengers are entitled to a free bottle of water and a snack. In this case, this was a bag of crisps. As seen below, the other thing handed out onboard was, in keeping with the current climate, an antibacterial wipe.

A punctual arrival

After just under an hour in the air, we touched down under sunny skies on Glasgow's runway 05 at 11:31. In contrast to our departure from Heathrow, we were treated to a much shorter taxi to our gate. This lasted just five minutes, and we arrived on stand at 11:36. Despite pushing back five minutes behind schedule, our overall arrival was four minutes early.

While BA boarded by boarding groups, it disembarked by row numbers, allowing a few rows to go at a time. Being situated towards the rear of the aircraft, I was among the last to leave, particularly after waiting to collect a jumper I'd left behind! While I wasn't in a rush, disembarking by rows is worth remembering if you have a tight connection.

It was a bit of a hike from our gate to the arrivals area. However, the domestic nature of our flight did at least mean that we could skip passport control, saving a few minutes. Overall, I had a pleasant enough trip up to Glasgow with BA. Its high frequencies and load factors on this route are surely a good thing when it comes to UK aviation's recovery.

What do you make of British Airways' domestic offering? Have you ever flown on this particular route? Let us know your thoughts and experiences in the comments.

Stopped working

As per other reviews, the app won’t let you get redirected to the website so you have to use the web version instead. Renders the app pointless until fixed. Update: Back up to five stars after a very helpful email from the app developer that I will simply paste below for everyone else struggling. Hi, We are really sorry you are having problems using the app :(. Apple introduced a new requirement for apps call App Tracking Transparency which we introduced a few versions ago. Unfortunately, Apple will not allow us to allow users to redirect to retailers without this. But, I think we can resolve your issue with the following few steps. Firstly, close the app. Next, head to Settings on your iPhone. Scroll down to "Privacy" (its normally located just below the "Battery" option) and click this option. On the next menu, select the "Tracking" option. Then On the next screen, at the top, there should be an option "Allow Apps to Request to Track" option - please ensure this is set to ON. Then scroll down to the "Executive Club" app and ensure that this option is also ON. This should set your device to allow tracking through the app when you select your retailer, so please go ahead and open the app and try again. This should now allow you through to the merchant site without askiing for tracking again. Many thanks."

Was Disappointed Now a Happy User

I am disappointed with the functionality of this app. 1. Often I’m booted out against my will and unable to sign back in, despite being able to sign into my account using a browser. 2. When I am logged in and try to shop online the app won’t allow me to move to partner sites unless I click on continue to allow tracking. Clicking on continue does nothing so I have to revert to the browser. 3. An alternative to clicking on continue is to go to Settings/Privacy/Tracking and scroll down to Executive Club to enable tracking, however there is no Executive Club in the list. 4. Finally, when I look at my list of Linked Cards there are 4. When I try to add a fifth it tells me the card is already linked, but it’s not one of the four on the list. Speaking to Support has not been possible because they are experiencing a high volume of calls. I’m hoping for a version upgrade over the next few days. Since writing my first review all matters have been resolved barring the additional card, and this is being addressed. Thank you Support and Developers.
We hope that we have managed to resolve most of your issues when you reported them to app support. The linked card (4) can be reported to customer support on  0344 493 0747 option 3 (calls charged at local rate). Thank you.

Absolutely useless.

When I try and link to a store to buy - I can’t click continue button on as it’s hidden at bottom of the screen Update: Have been contacted by app support to say they have implemented a fix. I can now see half of the continue button at the bottom of my iPhone but clicking on this half button does nothing. The app developer has asked me to contact them if this has resolved issue but there does not seem to be a way to contact them? Would be useful to have a direct contact method and a way to leave a screenshot to demonstrate the issue Update: App developer has been responsive and updated app to resolve issue as well as leaving contact details - Thankyou well done Now 4 stars. Not 5 given hassle
Thank you for your updating your review. We are aware that having larger text on in your device can cause the continue button to appear further down the screen making it difficult to click on. We have a fix in progress for this issue and hope to have this out in our next release v5.28.4. While awaiting this fix we have removed as much spacing as possible from the information text which is why the button showing higher on the screen. Sorry you are still having difficulty clicking on this. Please forward any screenshots you have to [email protected] where the developer can take a look (this is not customer support who can be contacted on 0344 493 0747 option 3 if required ). Thank you for your patience.

The British Airways lounge in Glasgow is a an all singing, all dancing airline lounge, which is a great place to wile away some time before flying.
