The Star Trek pad

The Star Trek inspired flat which once belonged to a Hinckley sci-fi addict who was convicted of downloading hundreds of child sex abuse images is back on the market.

Tony Alleyne spent 10 years and thousands of pounds on recreating the bridge of the spaceship Voyager in the 34m sq apartment in Granville Gardens, off Coventry Road.

His sci-fi fetish led him to install a computerised flight deck, voice-activated lighting and a set of ‘transporters’ to complete the authentic look.

But his obsession prompted his wife to leave him and she then won the property in a divorce battle. The flat has been on and off the market in recent years and has been unoccupied since Alleyne’s conviction.

Divorcee Mr Alleyne, then aged 60, was jailed for 34 months in September 2013 by a judge at Leicester Crown Court after he had pleaded guilty to 10 counts of distributing indecent images of children and ten counts of making (downloading) indecent images of children.

He also admitted possessing extreme pornographic images involving an animal.

The court heard he spent hours alone in his starship dream pad, downloading indecent images, accidentally at first, but going on to amass a collection of more than 5,000 images, all involving youngsters under 13 and 20% featuring under fives.

Mr Alleyne was released last year after serving his time but it is not thought he returned to the apartment, now Hope Estates have the job of selling it off.

In a statement on behalf of Ms Alleyne, they said: "Ms Alleyne has decided to put the property on the market in order to start fresh. She is now divorced and estimates that it is time for her to put this flat and her ex-husband project behind her.

"She doesn't want to be reminded about her past and is looking forward to turning the next page in her life."

An advert for the £70,000 property on Rightmove reads: “Calling all Star Trek Fans! Have you always dreamt of having your own Voyager? The opportunity of buying this unique and extraordinary Star Trek Voyager Flat replica has arisen!

“Step in to the Voyager and let your imagination do the rest. This unique property has been custom made by a real Star Trek fanatic. You won’t find any other property like this one, this is truly unique, don’t miss it!

“You will find all of the smallest details from the movie franchise. You will have your own Transporter with the main commands control at the heart of this wonderful living space.”

Anyone interested in the flat should contact Hope Estates on Hinckley 616999 or go to www.hopeestetate.org.uk

Make this UK 'Star Trek: Voyager' flat your home for £70,000

If you've ever wanted to live on a "Star Trek" starship, now is your chance. This small apartment in the English town of Hinckley is a tribute to the USS Voyager.

star trek voyager house hinckley leicestershire

Ever wanted to be the captain of your own starship? In the grand tradition of re-creating the USS Enterprise in a basement in Quebec and in a Florida mansion , this flat in the town of Hinckley, England, has been transformed to look like the interior of the USS Voyager -- and it's for sale.

The 34-square-meter studio flat (that's 366 square feet) was put up for sale May 12 on Rightmove, a UK property site, for £70,000 (about $110,500, AU$136,500).

The apartment features a computerized flight deck with voice-activated lighting and a (sadly) non-working set of transporters. It looks pretty incredible, and would make for a perfect, if small, home for a "Star Trek: Voyager" fan.

"Star Trek" superfan Tony Alleyne spent 10 years and thousands of pounds transforming the flat, before finally having to give it up in 2012 . At least it wasn't dismantled, so his work can live on.

Check out the flat for yourself on Rightmove , then get ready to chart the new frontier if you have the dough and want to make this amazing "Star Trek" flat your home.

star trek voyager house hinckley leicestershire

In the United Kingdom, a flat made to appear like the USS Voyager from Star Trek has gone on sale, and it’s safe to say it’s very spectacular. It’s currently for sale on Rightmove, and is clearly the work of a committed Star Trek enthusiast. It’s located between Coventry and Leicester in the town of Hinkley, and is certainly the work of a dedicated Star Trek fan.

“Step aboard the Voyager and let your imagination run wild,” says one description. “This one-of-a-kind product was handcrafted by a true Star Trek aficionado. You won’t find another property like it; it’s genuinely one-of-a-kind; don’t miss it!

“You’ll uncover all of the movie franchise’s tiniest elements.” At the core of this wonderful living space, you will have your own Transporter with the major orders control.”

Unfortunately, unlike the “genuine” Voyager, this version is just 34 square metres, which means you won’t be able to fit a large crew on board. You could do a lot worse if you’re a Star Trek fan in Leicestershire looking to explore the universe on your own.

A flat that was turned into the bridge of the Star Trek Voyager spaceship has been put up for sale on property website Rightmove.

Sci-Fi obsessive Tony Alleyne spent 10 years and thousands of pounds on the dream pad and was constantly interviewed about his hobby.

He installed a computerised flight deck, voice-activated lighting and a set of 'transporters' to complete the authentic look.

But his obsession prompted his wife to leave him and she then won the property in a divorce battle.

Several years later, Mr Alleyne was jailed for downloading and passing on child sex abuse images and the studio flat has been unoccupied since.

'Star Trek' Themed Flat Goes On Sale For £70k After Owner's Child Porn Arrest

star trek voyager house hinckley leicestershire

A small flat in Leicestershire modelled after the USS Voyager has gone on the market - following the Trekkie owner's arrest for downloading images of child abuse.

'Star Trek' fan and interior designer Anthony Alleyne, 62, was imprisoned in 2013 after he was found to be in possession of more than 5,000 child porn images. Half of those were in the most serious category.

Alleyne's distraught ex-wife put the flat up for sale to stop the bad memories.

"This unique property has been custom-made by a real Star Trek fanatic. You won't find any other property like this one, this is truly unique, don't miss it!"

Alleyne spent ten years and thousands of pounds converting his home into various areas of the Starship Voyager. It is now on the market for £70,000, but is not eligible for a mortgage as the windows have been blacked out and the kitchen has been rendered virtually unusable .

Alleyne reportedly ripped out the original USS Enterprise design after failing to find a buyer to meet his £800,000 price tag. He decided to redesign it based around the much more popular ship from the 'Voyager' series before police raided the home in 2012 and he was found in possession of child pornography.

Fancy coughing up the cash for his old digs? You can find the advert on RightMove , but candidates will be vetted to avoid the area becoming a tourist attraction. Only true Trekkies need apply for this unique studio flat in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

As kids, we all created forts. If you were really stylin’, yours was probably made of cardboard and included your mom’s best (or worst) bedsheets. Tony Alleyne, however, is no kid and his detailed living space takes “forts” to a whole new level.

North of London, on a private block in Hinckley, Leicestershire, UK, lies the most tricked out ‘Star Trek’-themed studio apartment in the world. Ring the doorbell, and you’ll be greeted by Patrick Stewart saying “Welcome to the 24th century.”

The touch of this one button will get Trekkies salivating, but we haven’t even touched the surface of the launching pad. With the looks of Picard and the skills of Data, Alleyne has taken his sci-fi passion to the next level—he lives inside it.

How does one go about transforming their entire living space into space-worthy? It takes some serious motivation. After his wife left in 1994, Alleyne needed a project to keep his hands and mind busy.

In late 1997, Alleyne set out to create his ultimate bachelor pad. Since the local Home Depot doesn’t have a sci-fi section, Alleyne had to handcraft everything himself. However, most of the materials used in the construction can be found at almost any home improvement store.

Nearly three years ago, Alleyne began work on the “Star Trek: Voyager” re-fit of the apartment. “I decided that I would apply a harder luxury interior,” he says. “I have always considered that of all the Starfleet ships, Voyager is, in terms of interior, the luxury liner of the galaxy.” Alleyne then added shades of grey and incorporated aluminum inlays as featured in and around the Voyager ship. “I also added some pretty cool LCARS [Library Computer Access and Retrieval System] and some new lighting effects.”

Currently, his home/Transporter room includes AEI Security Systems, Vos System voice-activated lighting, running light modules, AgiLight z-LED lighting, and a DeLonghi air conditioning system. While it may not seem like the ultimate electronic house, it’s actually a lot, considering the apartment is a mere 500 square feet. “The way the design features have been applied, it looks much bigger,” Alleyne says. For added effect, there are various cooling systems that, when activated, give the feel and sounds one might experience aboard a spaceship.

“Apart from the shower tray, I alone designed, built and applied the entire interior. I just do not like plumbing in any shape or form,” he says. “The plumber did a marvelous job by the way—thanks Rob.”

After years of blood, sweat and tears, Alleyne says there are various things he’d like to add, but his favorite piece is still the Transporter Control. “It was the first ‘Star Trek’ prop I built and it took almost two years to construct,” he says. “It’s quite a complex piece as it features a working fader control system that triggers an original Transporter sound effect.”

Naturally, Alleyne’s apartment has garnered attention—and even prompted him to start his own design business, 24th Century Design. However, it’s also brought in a ton of requests from people seeking a similar setup. While many installers might see an opportunity, Alleyne found that many of these potential clients were hoping for a freebie.

“I receive many requests for various science fiction applications including ‘Star Trek,’ ‘Dr. Who’ and ‘Star Wars’,” says Alleyne. “The strange thing is most of the inquiries come from people who, for reasons I have yet to understand, expect me to work free of charge. I wouldn’t dream of writing to a motor mechanic saying, ‘Can you tell me how to fix my car via email because I don’t want to pay you to do it’.”

While Alleyne’s “Star Trek” project didn’t drive him mad, it did drive him into bankruptcy. He emerged from bankruptcy earlier this year and now says he’d like to move on to a bigger place to play with. There he could add more voice activation into the mix.

“My motto has always been: Bliss is a room without wires,” he says. “I make a point of not showing plug sockets, cable or any evidence of how things function so complete voice activation would complement the current design.” Other future options include new lighting, wall paneling, a new ceiling design, some original contemporary artwork and, if space permits, sliding doors.

Alleyne suggests that anyone willing to undertake such a project should have a strong passion for sci-fi. No kidding—Alleyne actually parted with his own bed to perfect the Transporter area. However, it wasn’t entirely for aesthetic purposes. “A few years ago I suffered with sciatica and was advised by my GP [general practitioner] to sleep on the floor,” he says. “It cured the sciatica and gave me the opportunity to convert the bed area into the Transporter area—bed space is overrated.”

If you’re serious about getting your geek on, start saving. Alleyne expects to relist his “Star Trek: Voyager” apartment on eBay sometime in March for around $200,000.

To boldly forgo: Trekkie loses his painstakingly recreated Star Trek flat to ex-wife in divorce

By Emma Reynolds Updated: 16:06 EDT, 27 January 2012

When Star Trek obsessive Tony Alleyne was separated from his wife, he embraced the chance to turn their old flat into a recreation of the inside of the Starship Enterprise.

But the 58-year-old's painstaking efforts may have been for nothing.

His ex-wife wants to sell up - and she intends to offer buyers a more conventional looking home.

Star Trek fan Tony Alleyne tucks into Earthly toast in his one-bedroom studio flat

Mr Alleyne has spent the last ten years transforming the one-bedroom property into a sci-fi fantasy, with a computerised flight deck, flashing lights and even 'transporters'.

He is devastated by the news that his ex-wife Georgina wants to sell the flat in Hinckley, Leicestershire, where he has been living by himself since their break-up.

'Trekkie' Mr Alleyne said it would cost at least £100,000 rebuild the interior elsewhere, according to The Sun.

He said: 'To say I'm gutted is an understatement. It is my life's work — and it looks like it's going into a skip. I admit there were tears.'

Mrs Alleyne, 52 — who has paid the mortgage since they split in 1994 — said: 'I want to sell it as conventional property.'

Her former husband started building the amazingly accurate spaceship replica after his friend gave him a magazine based on the TV show.

He told the Daily Mail: 'My friend gave me a Star Trek mag and I became obsessed with having my own space ship. He laughed when I told him - I think he thought it was all a joke, but I knew I was going to achieve it one day.

'It all started as therapy after we split up,' he said. 'Building every bit from scratch really helped me to deal with the stress of it all.'

Step into my spaceship: The stunning level of detail he has put into transforming his home

Initially Mr Alleyne decked the flat out in cream and metallic colours as the USS Enterprise from 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture. But he found that 'a bit boring' and has now upgraded by recreating the starship Voyager from the 1990s series of the same name.

A copy of the ship's command console controls the lights and sound effects in the apartment in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

Every morning, a voice-activated computer system turns on fluorescent tubes that illuminate bleeping panels and a replica of the 'beam me up' transporter - all reflected in the mirrored ceiling. The windows have been fitted with layers of perspex and wood so that they appear to look out on outer space.

Even the doorbell has been customised. It plays a sample of Patrick Stewart in his role as captain Jean-Luc Picard.

Sourcing and building everything himself has cost Mr Alleyne around £4,000, but he said it would have cost hundreds of thousands of pounds for labourers to do it.

He said: 'Building this has been like a dream. I had a vision and I'm really amazed at what I managed to achieve with just hard work.'

He added: 'Some people might think I'm a bit of a sad individual, but I'm not. I'm just really into Star Trek - it's my only vice.'

Star Trek flat: yours for $1m

Set phasers to stunned.

One ambitious Star Trek aficionado is offering his one-bedroom flat in Hinckley, Leicestershire for a cool $1m.

Star Trek flat: yours for £1m

Which is just about the minimum spec you'd expect for what is "Approximately £538,647.99" (a nice touch by the eBay currency convertor there). As one Reg wag put it: "That'd be in 23rd-century money then?" We reckon so:

The Star Trek apartment is the first and only one in the world. Watching Star Trek, buying the merchandise, going to the conventions and talking Trek is what millions of Star Trek fans do all around the world. Whilst all of that is exciting, I have chosen another, and more extreme option - live the experience 24/7. As an interior designer, and science fiction fan, I have always wanted to break with traditional interior design and try something a little more exciting and challenging. As a fully convicted science fiction fan, living in a spaceship environment is about as exciting as it gets.

Well, it is as exciting as it gets if you live in Hinckley. It's hardly the Klingon homeworld, is it?

And there's the problem. Were this extraordinary gaff in New York or London, the seller might be in with a shout. But Hinckley? Nah. Accordingly, we decided to travel back in time to 1883 and offer him 10 guineas for the place. Then someone pointed out that we had the wrong sci-fi reference: that would only work with a Back to the Future residence.

OK, we said, we'll simply knock on the front door, pull a phaser on the guy and take it at gunpoint. No chance, our resident Vulcan derided: he would have seen you coming on his long-range scanners and would simply transport you to the nearest police cell.

star trek voyager house hinckley leicestershire

Right-o, we conceded, we'll infest the place with tribbles thereby lowering the price to a manageable level. Result.

In the meantime, wannabe Captain Kirks with a 23rd-century budget and an overwhelming desire to live in the strange and alien environment they call Hinckley can find the auction here . If you'd like a better look before flying the shuttle up to Leicestershire, the flat will apparently be shown on Channel 5's 20 Ways on Sunday 25 July at 8pm. ®

3 of the Craziest Homes From Around the World

Home || CHG Blog || 3 of the Craziest Homes From Around the World

We know custom homes, but sometimes people come up with the wildest and craziest home ideas on their own. Here is a list of some of our favorite custom homes from around the world, including some that turn the entire concept of a house on its head!

1. Boeing 727-200 house in Hillsboro, Oregon

The Boeing 727-200 house is definitely a crazy home. This home caters to aviation fans, fitting an entire home into a decommissioned military aircraft. While the build itself cost nearly $330,000 (with $100,00 just for the purchase of the plane) back in 1999, its builder Bruce Campbell says that it has a number of benefits over a traditional home being “highly fire resistant and provides superior security?” Campbell discusses the project in detail on his website, so if you’ve ever dreamed of living in an airplane, you can!

2. Star Trek Voyage house in Hinckley, Leicestershire

This Star Trek Voyage house was built by Star Trek superfan Tony Alleyne to replicate the interior of the Star Trek Voyager spaceship from the well known Sci-fi TV series. Fans can live long and prosper in this flat that comes complete with a vast array of LED lighting and plenty of video and audio effects to complete the experience. The property was put on the market recently for around $100,000, putting it in the price range of most die-hard fans.

3. Upside Down House in Trassenheide, Germany

Built as a tourist attraction in 2008, this home literally turns the concept of a house upside down. The Upside Down House was commissioned by the town from Polish architects Klaudiusz Golos and Sebastaian Mikiciuk for a project titled “The World Upside Down”. The project makes everyday objects available to visitors from different perspectives, including the entire contents of the house, which is fully furnished upside down.

' src=

The property market can be a very confusing, expensive and time-consuming game, with some people looking for alternative methods to living in traditional homes . We’ve searched high and low to compile this list of the craziest, quirkiest and most unusual homes across the globe to see what lengths some people have gone to create their very own home sweet home. While you probably won’t find any of these weird and wonderful homes on our website, you can definitely find a wide selection of more ordinary properties to rent on TheHouseShop.com!

Depending on your needs, you can book your stay in these homes when travelling, or use these homes as inspirations for your own in the future. Building a home from scratch isn’t a walk in the park but having an idea of how you want it to look like, and working with pros for your security needs such as Home Brands can make the task easier.

Listed below are some of the weirdest homes you can find from different parts of the globe:

1) Boeing 727-200 house in Hillsboro, Oregon

boeing

This high altitude home was built by aviation enthusiast Bruce Campbell in 1999. The purchase of the decommissioned military aircraft itself set him back $100k, with over $220k worth of work completed on its interior. Campbell notes that the structure is “highly fire-resistant and provides superior security”.

If you have a fascination with planes, and would usually imagine yourself living in one, you should definitely consider visiting this home in person. Spending time in this home is a very unique experience – something which you can’t get when you fly with any other commercial airlines!

2) Langtry House in Hampstead, London

langtry

This exquisite home is so cool, you’ve probably never even heard about it. Yep, it’s that underground. Complete with 3 bedrooms, a fully equipped gym and a cinema room, this bizarre below the earth abode would cost you a cool £4.5 million.

The interior of this home is very luxurious, making it very hard to believe that the entire structure is actually built underneath the ground.

3) Star Trek Voyage house in Hinckley, Leicestershire

startrek

6) TreeHouse Home in Miami, Florida

zesdqwwxqmzdai9cw8r7

Let’s face it. Hotels are totally overpriced and overrated. But with the introduction of brand new travel apps including Airbnb and CouchSurf, homeowners are letting others staying in their pads, however crazy the design might be. We can now be at one with nature and all for the reasonable cost of $61 a night. This sweet treehouse also comes complete with a King size bed and hot water too!

If you want to take your next trip up a notch, you should ditch the idea of staying in luxurious hotels. Instead, book your accommodation in this treehouse! Aside from saving money, staying in this home for days can become your ticket to connecting with nature, and finally get rid of stress.

7) The Purple House in Hillingdon, Middlesex

71388a1f-0079-4ba2-9d51-3f51342767f9-2060x1403

8) The Toilet House in Suwon, South Korea

sim-jae-duck

In 2007, Mayor of Suwon Sim Jae-Duk designed this bog-shaped gaff to commemorate the founding of the World Toilet Association. Honestly, Google the organisation, it’s a real thing. The building cost roughly around $1.1 million and features an amazing rooftop balcony. In some ways, that is money down the toilet.

9) Spitbank Fort in the Solent near Portsmouth Harbour

Spitbank-Fort-1

Built back in 1861 as a sea fort containing 12-inch breech-loading guns, Spitbank Fort was declared surplus by the Ministry of Defence in 1962 and sold privately. It has since been redeveloped into a modern luxury hotel, complete with 50 rooms, a restaurant, a dance hall and a rooftop jacuzzi.

10) H2omes in preferably somewhere with clean water!

bedroom

Now, I’m not entirely sure if these insane homes are the best ideas but the concept seems cool. H2omes are looking to build luxurious neighbourhoods submerged underwater at surface level. Priced at £10 million, they give you the option of choosing your sea bed location or have them choose a site for you. Although I studied and lived in Brighton for a bit, I don’t think I’d want to reside on its sea bed, observing the numerous discarded supermarket trolleys and crisps packets that ravage its murky, seafloor.

via US Substructures

11) Shoebox Apartment in Barcelona, Spain

image

In the bohemian Born district of Barcelona, you will find this tiny home  (if you look hard enough!) Christian Schallert designed the 24 square meter room to fit his living needs. converted-church-home-design

Unlike Ecclesiastes 5:1, We don’t think you’ll have to guard your steps when you go to this House of God. This chic redesign of a church combines both religious and contemporary elements. Parts of the old building can still be seen in the interior such as crosses and the large stained glass windows.

13) Dupli.Casa in Ludwigsburg, Germany

dupli-casa2

This property looks like it’s from a Salvador Dali piece. The distorted modern home was designed by Berlin renowned architects J.Mayer, who are known for their bizarre builds (We could probably devise a whole list dedicated to their weird and wonderful designs). The property is designed on the footprints of the property that previously resided on the location but has obviously been modified.

luxury-floating-home

How cool would it be to drive your boat home from work? This stunning but stable floating home in Seattle combines both nautical and modern luxury. 16) Flintstone Cave house in Malibu, California

White-Plastered-Walls-of-this-Cave-Flintstone-House

Don’t be fooled by its very retro design, this house is most certainly not stuck in the past. The one-bedroom home comes with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, a large television area, a spacious kitchen and fully working WI-FI! I think its say to say that this house rocks, pun intended.
