LPGA Tour player average distances: Driver, irons, wedges through the bag

The average LPGA Tour player doesn't hit their driver 300-plus yards. In fact, very few players on the LPGA hit any 300-yard drives. On average, an LPGA Tour player hits their ball longer than most recreational golfers, but their average distances are somewhat closer to how the average younger amateur experiences the game.

How far LPGA Tour players hit the golf ball with each club in their bag isn't an exact science, however. Every player is different, with a different swing, a different angle of attack, different swing speeds and more. Every situation -- off the tee, from the fairway or rough -- is different. So, we wanted to give you an idea of how far is far and how short is short among LPGA Tour players.

We'll take you through the bag to show you LPGA Tour players' average distances with their driver, irons and wedges.

Remember, these are general numbers that don't account for special late-in-tournament situations where a player may be particularly jacked with adrenaline and hit it farther than normal. It's also worth noting that there does appear to be a bigger spread in possible distances off the tee for LPGA Tour players compared to PGA Tour players.

Of course, elevation can affect how far the ball travels as well, though most LPGA events are not played at significant elevation.

Two of the longest courses played on the LPGA Tour currently are, of the majors at least, Walton Heath in London, UK at 6881 yards in 2023 which hosted the Woman’s British Open (now the Woman’s Open), and the Jack Nicklaus designed course at The Club at Carlton Woods at 6881 yards which hosted the 2023 Chevron Championship.

These courses highlight the narrowing gap between the LGPA and the PGA in terms of distance.

World No. 1 LPGA golfer Nelly Korda's stock yardages revealed

T he Rolex world number one golfer Nelly Korda is a fantastic golfer. While her many wins are a testament to her incredible talent, her TaylorMade equipment makes an impact as well.

Korda's stock yardages were recently revealed by the brand, and they're indicative of a combination of excellent golfing skills and top-notch equipment. Here are the yardages that TaylorMade revealed on X (formerly known as Twitter):

• Driver - 252 yards
• 3-Wood - 232 yards
• 7-wood - 218 yards
• 5-Hybrid - 200 yards
• 5-iron - 185 yards
• 6-iron - 169 yards
• 7-iron - 154 yards
• 8-iron - 144 yards
• 9-iron - 135 yards
• PW - 124 yards
• 50 degree wedge - 115 yards
• 54 degree wedge - 100 yards
• 60 degree wedge - 83 yards

Those certainly go a long way toward impacting the LPGA Tour star's performance. Korda is one of the best, evidenced by her newly minted number one overall ranking, and the yardage that she can generate is not a small factor.

The above factors are also what helped Nelly Korda get the victory recently at Fir Hills Seri Pak. The win moved her back to first overall in the Rolex rankings, a position she's held multiple times. Korda also hit double digit victories in her career with the win, becoming the 39th American ever to do so.

Charley Hull compared to Nelly Korda by Trish Johnson

Charley Hull is one of the best golfers in the world. She finished T10 at the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship and is ranked number seven in the Rolex world rankings. She's as talented as they come, but she might not be comparable to the world number one.

Trish Johnson, a Solheim Cup and English golfer herself, recently spoke on Hull and her stature in the sport. She said via SB Nation:

"I'm probably her harshest critic because I know how good she is. She doesn't win anywhere near enough for her talent, and she doesn't get involved enough. The thing with Charley is that you're never going to change her. I read something the other day that said how much she loves the game, and it's her love of the game [that costs her]. She's never going to change. She's just going to go for every pin."

The praise stopped there, though, and she outright compared her to Nelly Korda , saying:

"If you put Charley Hull against Nelly Korda, then I'm picking Nelly every single day of the week."

Johnson believes Korda to be the superior golfer and stated that she wouldn't even hesitate to pick her in a theoretical matchup with Hull, who is a six-time Solheim Cup player.

Korda recently out-dueled Hull, who briefly had a chance to win at Seri Pak. The final round was pretty chaotic as so many golfers, including Hull, moved up and down the leaderboard frequently. Ultimately, Korda prevailed over Ryann O'Toole in a one-hole playoff.

Personally speaking, as a 14-handicap hacker, my total distances equate to the current carry distances of the average PGA Tour pro. But with a dodgy back and a few grey hairs starting to appear now, I will take that.

Before the Masters starts Thursday, there was one more tradition unlike any other to enjoy: Wednesday's Par 3 Contest.

Rickie Fowler carded 5-under 22 to win the Par 3 Contest. Fowler finished two strokes clear of Sepp Straka, J.T. Poston and amateur Santiago de la Fuente.

The Par 3 Contest was contested Wednesday, as per tradition, at Augusta National's nine-hole par-3 layout just a stone's throw from the tournament course. Players signed up to compete in groupings of up to three players, with several spouses and children also enjoying the action inside the ropes – caddying and sometimes even hitting a few shots.

In addition to Fowler's glittering crystal bowl for winning the Par 3 Contest, five players also earned hardware for recording holes-in-one Wednesday. Luke List recorded the day's first ace, followed by Gary Woodland, Sepp Straka, Lucas Glover and Viktor Hovland.

No player has won the Par 3 Contest and the green jacket in the same year, but who's to say this year can't be the first? Fowler will strive to break that streak amidst the loblolly pines.

4:19 p.m.: The cup is filling up at the 141-yard sixth, the latest magic trick coming at the hands of Viktor Hovland.

The Norwegian cards Wednesday's third ace at No. 6, the day's fifth hole-in-one overall. Hovland's ball lands on the front of the green and takes a couple hops before grabbing and spinning back toward the hole; it trickles in with sublime pace. Hovland raises his hands with a mischevious smile as the patrons roar in appreciation. Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is on the scene, clapping in appreciation as well.

Hovland isn't keeping an official score, but the moment will remain etched in time nonetheless. Rickie Fowler (5 under) maintains the clubhouse lead that he has held for some three hours.

3:27 p.m.: Lucas Glover makes Wednesday's first ace at No. 7, the day's fourth hole-in-one overall. Glover's tee shot lands on the green's back-right portion, some 50 feet from the hole, but it carries plenty of zip and releases all the way back into the hole. The Clemson alum throws his hands in the air and high-fives his playing partners Brian Harman and Harris English, along with family on the scene.

3:20 p.m.: Nearly two hours after posting 5-under 22, Rickie Fowler maintains the clubhouse lead at the Par 3 Contest. Sepp Straka and J.T. Poston share second place in the clubhouse at 3 under, with Matt Fitzpatrick (through 7) and Sungjae Im (through 6) still on the course at 3 under.

2:27 p.m.: Austria's Sepp Straka makes an ace at the 142-yard fifth, the day's third hole-in-one overall (the first two coming at No. 6). The ball lands just a few feet past the hole and spins in; Straka leaps into the air as the ball drops into the cup.

2:20 p.m.: After Gary Woodland finds the water on the eighth hole, leading to a triple bogey, Rickie Fowler (5 under) has assumed a three-stroke lead over Woodland and Austin Eckroat.

Woodland's son Jaxson drains a 12-foot birdie from just off the green's front edge at No. 9, followed by a raucous family celebration. It means Woodland's score won't be official, but hearts are warm across the board.

1:40 p.m.: Gary Woodland records the day's second ace (both on the 140-yard, par-3 sixth hole); his tee shot lands roughly 30 feet long-right of the flag and spins back softly, dripping in the hole with perfect pace. It marks Woodland's first ace at the Par 3 Contest. He's now 5 under through six holes, co-leader with Rickie Fowler (in the clubhouse).

1:30 p.m.: Rickie Fowler makes an 8-foot birdie at the ninth to post 5-under 22. He's the leader in the clubhouse thus far.

1:15 p.m.: Scottie Scheffler is underway at the Par 3 Contest, with his sister Sara on the bag, dialing in yardages amidst back-and-forth with the broadcast crew.

Scheffler's wife Meredith is not on-site this week, as she is "a few weeks" from the due date for their first child. "Meredith's resting up," Scheffler said. "We're a few weeks away, so we could not get the OK from the doctors."

Were Meredith to enter labor during the Masters, Scheffler would leave immediately, he said Wednesday, regardless of his leaderboard position. "That is extremely factual; I will be out of here," he said. "I think first child wins, over many things in my life."

1:05 p.m.: Local hero Luke List makes the first ace of the Par 3 Contest. The Augusta resident spins it back and in at the 140-yard sixth hole.

12:50 p.m.: Gary Woodland is joined at the Par 3 Contest by his three kids, Jaxson, Maddox and Lennox. It's an emotional scene for Woodland, who underwent brain surgery last September to remove a lesion, which was situated on a tract that caused fear. "I was very fear-driven every day, mostly around death," he said in January.

Now he's playing the Masters, and the journey isn't lost on him. Far from it. "This is what it's all about," Woodland said on the first tee at the Par 3 Contest. "This is what the fight was for."

This is the final event of a Western swing, and the last LPGA event before its first major championship of the year. ... Shadow Creek is among the elite clubs in Las Vegas. It has hosted a made-for-TV match, along with the CJ Cup on the PGA Tour that was moved from South Korea during the COVID-19 pandemic. ...
