BBC Breakfast presenters were left red-faced on Friday morning when Luxmy Gopal was caught on camera still having her hair styled live on air.

As the cameras switched to the studio at 5.56am for a sneak peek of the upcoming 6am show, it was clear that the presenters weren't quite camera-ready. Charlie Stayt , busy adjusting his attire, greeted viewers with: "Good morning and welcome to BBC Breakfast with Luxmy Gopal and Charlie Stayt."

Luxmy, in the midst of getting her hair done, coolly began: "The headlines today...." just as a clip about the US Presidential elections was broadcasted to the audience.

Social media users were quick to react, with one viewer tweeting: "Start your day with the professionals at #BBCBreakfast.", reports the Express .

Another chimed in: "Chaos @BBCBreakfast as they cut early to the studio and @luxmy_g presents the headlines while having her hair done! Great professionalism."

However, by the official start time of the show, both presenters were perfectly poised and kicked off the programme without a hitch.

Charlie, who typically shares presenting duties with Naga Munchetty , was accompanied by Luxmy, who has appeared on the couch several times throughout the week.

With over a decade of experience at the BBC, Luxmy is well-known for her role on BBC Look North. However, she recently shared news of her departure from her regular team, as her contract with BBC London News has now been made permanent.

Audiences are accustomed to Luxmy delivering news updates on BBC Breakfast, reporting live from different locations around the UK.

Yet, she's frequently asked to lead the show on weekends and sometimes during the week to cover for the usual hosts.

BBC Breakfast is on BBC One weekdays at 6am

The most famous female news presenters in UK television have impacted society in multiple ways.

On the one hand, they air important news that affects our daily lives. On the other hand, they are celebrities who influence people’s career choices, fashion sense, and lifestyle. They also enjoy a large following on social media channels.

Susanna Reid

Fiona first joined BBC as a researcher for Panorama in 1989. She became the first female newsreader on BBC and a presenter for shows such as Crimewatch, Real Story, Antiques Roadshow and Fake or Fortune?

Many viewers began to like her for her warm yet authoritative on-screen presence. Another admirable trait about Fiona is that she is multilingual.

She became fluent in French and Italian after studying in Paris and Milan. Therefore, don’t be shocked when this English reporter speaks in French without a translator.

2. Joanna Gosling

Joanna Gosling began her career as a presenter and newsreader for BBC News.

Joanna began her career as a presenter and newsreader for BBC News from 1999 to 2023.

Rianna Croxford became BBC's news correspondent at only 26

Rianna is among the top-ranking young female presenters at the moment. She became BBC’s news correspondent at only 26 in 2021.

She is all about championing balance, diversity, and nuance in narratives about Africa.

Thanks to her challenging negative African stereotypes, she has bagged many awards. In 2015, she won the BBC World News Komla Dumor Award. Later, in 2017, she was crowned one of Uganda’s most influential women by TedX and the World Economic Forum.

6. Jane Hill

Jane Hill is among the most famous female presenters in the UK.

When talking about famous female news presenters in the UK, you cannot leave out Jane Hill. That is because she has always been one of the main presenters of the BBC News. She would present the news at one and five and work during the weekend.

Outside of her job, Jane isn’t afraid to speak her mind about issues that may affect others.

In 2003, for instance, she went to a cinema to watch the film, Oppenheimer . She informed her then 44,000 Twitter followers that the movie used music and effects that were so loud that they drowned out the actors’ dialogues.

Occasionally, she appears as a relief presenter on the weekday edition of the BBC News at Ten. Before joining BBC in 1998, she was a producer and presenter at Bloomberg Television.

It may surprise you to know that she is fluent in Russian. Before her journalism career piqued, she was an English teacher in Moscow. At that time, she covered stories mainly in Russia, Georgia, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan.

Susanna Reid has also presented documentaries for ITV

Susanna is an award-winning presenter who has worked for BBC Breakfast, ITV Breakfast, and Sunday Morning Live on BBC One . She has also presented documentaries for ITV, such as Good Food and The Murder of Becky Watts.

Due to her versatility, she appeared in shows such as Chatty Man and Would I Lie to You? in demand.

If you were around in 2010, you likely didn’t like the idea of buying newspapers but still wanted to be in the know.

Luckily, Susanna was a regular newsreader for The Andrew Marr Show . However, she was standing in for somebody and soon handed over to Marr.

She has also displayed her bravery by reporting about the European migrant crisis of 2016 while on a ship.

Her philosophy of connecting to people of different cultures is to learn their languages. That may explain why she studied English and French at Exeter College (1984-1988).

If you think about it, locals get pleased when you utter even three words from their language.

12. Kirsty Wark

Kirsty Wark worked for BBC’s Newsnight for 30 years

Kirsty is one of the longest-serving female presenters on the BBC of all time. Can you believe she worked for BBC’s Newsnight for 30 years before stepping down in 2023?

Despite stepping down, she continues to be a presenter for BBC programs; Start the Week on Radio 4 and The Reunion .

Having worked as a presenter for so long, you can guess she has made significant achievements during her career. When she joined Newsnight in 1993, she interviewed eight prime ministers and even had a final interview with playwright Harold Pinter.

Also, she covered the 1996 Dunblane massacre by interviewing Lord Macpherson to investigate the murder of Stephen Lawrence.

She became a BBC anchor after covering many momentous events, including EU summits, World Economic Forums, and G7 conferences.

If you were around between 2008 and 2009, then you recall how depressing the Eurozone debt crisis was.

This period was a busy time for Sally as she spent her time educating her European audience about the impact of the crisis. That is admirable because some people tend to make poor decisions in such an event.

If she hardly gets burnout from working so much, she is one strong lady.

For a show titled Politics Live, you may expect her to mostly interview local politicians. Amazingly, she has interviewed world leaders, rock stars, and other controversial thinkers you may think of.

Let’s face it; we have all been curious about a certain singer’s political leaning.

BBC Breakfast fans were in for a surprise on Friday morning when a behind-the-scenes blunder was broadcast live, catching presenter Luxmy Gopal mid-makeover.

The unexpected moment occurred during a preview segment just before the official start of the show.

A presenter was caught having her hair done on BBC Breakfast today

Viewers got a glimpse into the chaotic reality of morning television at 5.56am.

The cameras switched to the BBC Breakfast studio for a sneak peek at the upcoming program, only to find Luxmy Gopal still getting her hair styled.

Co-presenter Charlie Stayt , who appeared slightly flustered as he straightened his clothes, welcomed viewers with a cheery "Good morning and welcome to BBC Breakfast with Luxmy Gopal and Charlie Stayt".

Meanwhile Luxmy remained unfazed, continuing to have her hair teased by a stylist.

BBC Breakfast presenters were left blindsided as the programme's live cameras started to roll early while Luxmy Gopal was still getting ready to go on air.

During Friday's show, the broadcaster and her co-presenter Charlie Stayt were far from ready to go live as Luxmy was seen still having her hair finished by her stylist.

As the live cameras panned to the London studios at 5.56am, Charlie was still in the middle of adjusting his trousers and fixing his belt.

Trying to get the 6am show started, Charlie jumped in:  'Good morning and welcome to BBC Breakfast with Luxmy Gopal and Charlie Stayt.'

Luxmy, who was still having her hair teased by her hairdresser, seemed unphased and added: 'The headlines today....' before a clip of the headlines starting with the US Presidential elections was streamed to viewers.

'Oh dear @BBCBreakfast That was a bit of a c**k up wasn't it.'

By the time the programme finished the segment and returned to the presenters, they were dressed and ready to go.

Charlie typically co-hosts BBC Breakfast with Naga Munchetty but he has been joined by Luxmy a couple of times this week.

Luxmy, who has been a presenter for the BBC for over 10 years, is best known for being a staple on BBC Look North.

But she recently announced that she was leaving her usual team as her contract with BBC London News had been made permanent.

Viewers are typically used to seeing Luxmy bringing news bulletins during BBC Breakfast when she reports live from various UK locations.

But she is sometimes called in to front the programme on weekends and occasionally mid-week to fill in for regular hosts who are not available.
