Paulaner Bräuhaus and Brewery tour

This tour is all about the history of beer and its importance for social life. The tour starts at Marienplatz and continues via Viktualienmarkt in the direction of Paulaner Bräuhaus.

This is followed by a brewery tour of the historic Munich Thomasbräu, where the brewery of the eponymous Thomas brothers merged with the Paulaner Brewery in 1928. Home-made beers are still brewed in the Paulaner Bräuhaus today - a craftsmanship that you can take a closer look at on site and of course taste the noble drops.

Beer tasting in a beer garden or restaurant

At the end of the tour - depending on the weather - you will visit a beer garden or a traditional restaurant together - you will also have the opportunity to eat here. The tour ends at the Hofbräuhaus . To get you in the mood, you can read our interview with two female brewers and understand why this drink is so rooted in Bavarian history and what innovations time brings with it.

However, the cost of entry with beer sampling for an individual is just €9.50.

Has anyone done the Viator tour and is it worth paying the extra €20 for what really amounts to food sampling and taking me to the museum (walking!), then on to Hofbrauhaus (nothing included there).

I never take such kind of tours, I think you better go on your own.

In the HB it is best to join other people at a table, you will make friends in no time.

I also found the Erdinger Tour which is free if you join their (free) fan club - I like that price :-) You also get free food and beer - I like that even more :-)) so I might do that instead.

Viator is a tour broker operating in many cities - they just sell other company's tours. The tour that they are selling will be given by another company.

We took this tour last time we were in Munich and had a really great time. It is a walking tour, with a couple rides on public transit. You visit Augustiner, Paulaner, and a couple other places, including the Hofbrauhaus . Paulaner isn't my favorite, but this was a smaller Paulaner brewery that makes a more specialized brew, which was very good. There are some tastings included in the cost. The real value of this tour though is the guide. There was quite a bit of information about about beer in general and beer in Munich specifically. We are fairly knowlegable about beer, but learned some things that we hadn't known before. Plus, the guide was very entertaining and it was a really good time.
