Purulia Tour Guide- Detailed Itinerary

Purulia Tour Guide

Purulia is one of the most visited places in West Bengal and this Purulia detailed tour guide will provide you with all the details you need to travel to Purulia. Purulia is also known as "Lal Matir Desh" which means land of red soil in Bengali. Purulia greets travelers with lush green meadows & forests, hills, lakes, and its natural beauty along with rich history. Not known to many Purulia has played an important role to carve the history of Bengal. Purulia is also rich in tribal culture and will keep you mesmerized with its rustic beauty.

When to Visit Purulia?

We traveled to Purulia after staying at home for more than 10 months in the month of December. Winters are the best time to visit Purulia. The tourist season starts in November and ends in March/April for Purulia.

The best time to visit Purulia is from early March when the Palash flowers blooms and Purulia transforms into a different beauty. Purulia is filled with Palash trees and when they bloom the entire land looks reddish in color due to the color of the flower. The trees look as if on fire with their red-colored flowers in full bloom.

How to reach Purulia?

What is the history of purulia.

There is hardly any written history of Purulia however one can find the mention of crushing the Varendra rebellion by Pala King Rampala in the poem Ramacharitram written by court poet Sandhyakar Nandi.

It is also believed that a major trade route passed through Purulia in the 10h -12th Century. One can find the influence of Jainism in Purulia. There was a huge settlement of Jains during this time Purulia and one can find Jain temples in Purulia. which were built in Oriya Deul Style Architecture. The temples were built of stone and bricks.

One of the important areas in the Purulia district is Garpanchkot. The name is derived from two words Gar ( Fort) & Panchkot ( Panchkot Raj). So basically the combination of two words became Garpanchkot which is the fort of the Panchkot kings. We have heard of the river Damodar, which gets its name from king Damodar Sekhar. He established Panchkot Raj during 90 AD along with the help of Sardards of Jhalda. He kept on expanding his kingdom. The name Panchkot comes from the 5 clans of the areas.

How many days are required to Travel to Purulia?

4 Days 3 Nights are enough to cover all major places of the Purulia district. However, if you have a lesser number of days you can choose and pick the places which you want to visit in Purulia.

Purulia Tour Guide - Detailed Itinerary of Purulia

Purulia has two major circuits for traveling. Circuits are basically routes which one can follow to travel. If you ask any tour agent regarding travel to Purulia they will talk about these circuits.

However, during my travel, I didn't follow any of these circuits and made my own route keeping in mind two important things :

a. Important places that depict the true history and natural beauty of Purulia

b. Places which can be covered in 1 day without getting too tiring and which can be covered in 5-6 hours

I created two routes which I followed for two days to cover Purulia and the majority of its tourist and not so touristy places.

HOW TO PLAN A PURULIA TOUR?

While planning a Purulia tour, tourists must consider the two major tourist circuits in Purulia district.

  •  Ajodhya Pahar Baghmundi tourist circuit
  • Garpanchokot Baranti Panchet tourist circuit

Both the tourist circuit can be covered in a single tour plan or can be visited separately in a relaxed manner. Both the tourist circuit under purulia tourism offers a blend of mesmerizing landscapes and ancient historical architectures.

WHICH ARE THE TOP PLACES TO VISIT IN PURULIA?

Two major tourist circuits of Purulia covers almost all the alluring scenic spots under Purulia tourism.

A. Ajodhya Pahar or Ayodhya hills circuit under Purulia Tourism

The most popular tourist circuit is the Ajodhya Pahar Baghmundi tourist circuit since it covers a variety of landscape, towering hills, dams, falls and lush green forest. Popular destinations under Ajodhya pahar or Ayodhya hill tourist circuits are as below

purulia tourist spot map

Ajodhya Pahar

Ajodhya Pahar is the main attraction among all the tourist spots in Purulia. An extended part of the Eastern Ghats range, Ajodhya Pahar is a hill of medium height with tableland on top. Belonging to the Dalma Hill range, the highest peak of Ayodhya Pahar is Gorgaburu. The hill is within the vast area of Chota Nagpur Plateau and forms its lowest step. It is a woody hill with picturesque beauty. The cacophony of birds will accompany you along your trail to the Ayodhya Hills through the forested path. Legend has it that this hill was visited by Lord Rama and Sita during their exile. The vast spread of greenery and serpentine roads are a treat to the eyes. With a height of mere 712 metres, it is one of the most favourite nearby weekend destinations from Kolkata. A visit to the Ajodhya Pahar will certainly make you fall in love with Purulia all over.

 Muruguma Dam

Not far from Ajodhya Pahar in Purulia, there is another tourist spot in Purulia rich in natural beauty awaiting your amazement. Muruguma Dam. Built over a small tributary of the river Kangsabati, this place is serenity well-defined. A whiff of fresh air coming every second from the water body is sure to make you feel relaxed on your next trip to Purulia. Fill your pollution-laden lungs with freshness and enjoy the not-so-distant views of the Ayodhya Pahar. The clean water of the dam, greenery around the place and hints of the characteristic red soil- all make the tourist spot in Purulia worth visiting.

Bamni Falls

Purulia, an otherwise dry district of West Bengal, has wonders in store for you as you visit Bamni Falls. While you experience the dry, stony soil of Purulia, the hint of moisture in the air coming along with the fresh smell of spruce trees fills up your senses as you visit the falls. The water here steps down without giving you any visual indication of erosion. Stand close to it and droplets of water will drench you like the pitter-patter of rain. Looking for a place to sit and think of nothing and letting go of all the worldly worries? Look no further beyond Bamni falls, the stunning tourist spot in Purulia.

Purulia Tourist Spot

Another location with breathtaking beauty within the vicinity of Ajodhya Pahar in Purulia is the Upper Water Dam. It is one of the major sightseeing in Purulia and without giving it a visit your Purulia tour will be incomplete. It is mainly a project for generating hydroelectricity. It is also known by the name of PPSP or Purulia Pump Storage Project. The artificially constructed dam brings freshness to the dry surface of Purulia. Watching the sunrise and sunset from this location is nothing short of an extravagant experience. The vast open area does not barricade the sky and thus when the colours of sunrise and sunset spread across the sky, you are simply left awestruck. The Upper Dam area is surrounded by Sal forest which adds to the lush green beauty of the Purulia tourist spots.

It is another rock-filled dam under the PPSP project. Located downhill from the upper dam, it gets its name, Lower Dam. The scenic beauty and natural environment are not much different from the upper dam. But at the same time, Purulia has wonders hidden in every turn. You can always discover the lower dam in its unique view when you visit it. The low reservoir of water provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy the natural view of the surrounding without any barrier in front of your eyes. The reflection of the sky on the clear water will make you want to touch it and feel it.

If you have a special fondness for local artisans and their artefacts which are famous across the globe, Charidah is the place you must include in your Purulia tour plan. Internationally acclaimed Chhau martial dance uses masks of various looks, sizes and shapes and Charidah is the home to these masks and the artisans who make them. While you get to interact with more than 250 artisans involved in mask-making, you may come across a few who have been awarded nationally too, acknowledging their effort. Be mesmerised by the beautiful creation and you can buy these artefacts directly from the makers at an excitingly affordable price. Charida village is a bright spot in the Purulia tourist map for its contribution to the art to make Purulia tourism more attractive and vibrant.

A quick step back in history is what Deulghta is all about. Ruins of temples built in the times of the Sen and the Pal emperors bear the evidence of rich heritage, improved expertise in designing and building and the immense creativity of the artisans. The nearby Kansai River adds to the stucco decoration and authentic architectural styles. Even though the temples have endured the wrath of time, the skilled artistry is still evident on the temple body and the idols. One must include Deulghata in their Purulia tour plan to know the history of Purulia from ancient times.

Famously known for the hills by the same name, Baghmundi is actually a small town in Purulia developed as a part of the community development programme. It is a small area with all the necessities in the vicinity. There are many approaches to visit Ayodhya Pahar, one can visit Ajodhya Pahar through Baghmundi situated at the foothills of Ayodhya Pahar. The rainy season, winter and spring are three times of the year when this area thrives with natural beauty. A simple aimless stroll through Baghmundi can enrich you with the magnificent beauty of nature. Hills, forests, waterfalls- nature has its basket full and is awaiting your arrival.

Ajodhya Pahar Tea Garden

Spread across 20 acres of land on the slopes of Ajodhya and other areas, the tea garden was an initiative undertaken by the Government of West Bengal. Once a beautiful Purulia tourist spot with a lush green cover of tea saplings, this project now needs a fresh lease of life. The administration is working towards it. You can still spend some time here, have a small chit chat with the workers here and get a glimpse of their lifestyle before returning to your resort.

Khairabera dam

Yet another water body in the trail of Purulia, the Khairabera dam is located amidst hills and forests. It is mainly an irrigation dam. Two hills on two sides adorn the dam which is around 1.5 km long. The calmness of the location is only disturbed by the cacophony of birds. You can see various fishes swimming in the clear water. A trek of a few miles will bring you to Machhkanda falls, a small waterfall hidden in the greenery of the forest. Khairabera dam is a must-visit place for sightseeing in Ajodhya hill and forest reserve area.

B.Garpanchokot Panchet Baranti Circuit  under Purulia Tourism

The other important tourist circuit in Purulia tourism is Garpanchokot Panchet Baranti Circuit. Following are the main tourist attraction in this tourist circuit

Purulia tourist spot map

Garhpanchkot

Garpanchkot is one of the most popular tourist spots in Purulia. The word Garh in the name Garhpanchkot stands for ‘fort’. Here you will find a fort, now in ruins but still standing strong, as it was built in 1600 AD by the Panchkote kings. The structure is located just at the foothills of the Panchet Hills. It withstood the Bargi attacks and bears the signs of their ruthlessness. The environment here is serene. Fill your lungs with fresh air and fill your ears with the chirping of varieties of birds as you experience history unfold itself in front of your eyes. The fort stands alone bearing the testimonial of Bengal’s rich heritage. It is one of the most visited Purulia tourist spots. This place is an excellent location for clicking photographs also.

Baranti or Muradi Lake

The rocky terrain of Purulia makes it an ideal place for building dams for irrigation. Muradi Lake / Baranti lake is situated at the base between the hillock named Muradi hill and Baranti hill. It is situated about 15 Km from Panchyet Hill and is a favourite picnic spot for travellers visiting Purulia. During winter, the place becomes abuzz with the chirpings of migratory birds. There’s a dash of colour everywhere. The picturesque lake surrounded by forests and hills is one of the major attractions of Purulia Tourism. Amid Purulia’s rugged landscape, Boronti is like an oasis. One looking for sightseeing in Purulia shouldn’t miss.

Jaichandi Pahar

If Purulia is a queen, Jaichandi Pahar is undoubtedly her crown. It is closer to Raghunathpur than Purulia town. This hill has made itself one of the most favourite places on the Purulia tourist map. Whether you want to simply absorb the beauty of nature in its most virgin form or whether you are up for a day tour Jaichandi Pahar is the ultimate location. It is not of much height but stands tall in the surrounding plateau. In winter, Jaichandi Pahar Pariyatan Utsav is held from 1st or 2nd January. Local artisans flock to the festival ground with their creations.

Located at the Raghunathpur subdivision, this part of Purulia has even more wonders packed in its famous temples. Time travel with a visit to the Radha Vinod temple built in the 17th century. Thanks to the administration, the temple has been restored. On the temple walls, you will find intricate designs of terracotta depicting the various  Leela  of Lord Krishna and other incidents from the Ramayana. Top 10 Mesmerizing Sites To Explore In Purulia, West Bengal

Written By Bhagyashree Mahato .

Purulia is situated in the Eastern part of India and is one of the twenty-three districts of West Bengal. The majestic lush green landscapes, rocky hills and the panoramic beauty makes it one of the interesting tourist destinations.

The best time to visit the place is the Spring season which is the blooming period of the vibrant colour of Butea monosperma or Palash flowers (in Bengali) or during the Winter season.

One can visit the place during monsoon season too but with precautions due to the muddy, slippery roads and avoid visiting the water bodies as chances of occurring floods are higher.

List of 5 places to visit in Satyajit Ray’s Gupi Baghar Deshe

1. pakhi pahar.

Pakhi Pahar

Pakhi Pahar is the outcome of the rock sculpture project of the artist Chitta Dey. The unusual situation encountered by the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata for being unable to get through the doors of the art gallery was a metal sheet sculpture of a bird with a twenty-two feet wingspan!

The solution that was proposed for mitigating the availability of the place the Government of West Bengal offered Chitta Dey an 800 ft- hill previously known as Murra Buru Hill in Baghmundi (Purulia District).

The project, in the beginning, seemed to be easier and a total number of one hundred birds were decided to be sculptured on the surface of the hill, however, the increasing complexities during the work resulted in the sculpting of sixty-five birds.

It can also be said that the illustration of art on paper was transformed into reality with the active collaboration of the individuals, artists, government, and the local people residing within the region for its success. Visiting the place during your trip will be worth it for viewing the folks of birds beautifully sculpted and the lush greenery surrounding the place.

Reasons for visiting this place:

The terrain is uneven and rough.

The main attractions of Purulia are the hills, woodlands, archaeological digs, and artifacts from old structures and temples.

The magical allure and natural beauty of this Palash area with red soil and scarlet blossoms are enhanced by tribal mentality.

Numerous tribal groups are found in the area, including the Kherias-Sabars, Kurmis, and Santhals. Songs and dances play a significant role in indigenous peoples’ daily life.

How Purulia visiting places Amaze you

When you are planning a trip of Purulia visiting places, you’ll amaze with its ambiance.

The nature and the magical attractions with tribal cultures, dams, hills, forests, abandoned forts and sculptures, make you happy.

People who live cities, prefer to visit this place flavoring its diversity.

Spending a couple of days at Purulia is a praiseworthy decision. Here are some attractions adds another value.

Offbeat travel is famous because of its culture as well. Jhumur is one of the traditional Purulia dance that depicts the histry and culture of Purulia.

Though originally jhumur is an Assamese dance, still it is famous in Purulia as well.

The Kurmi, Kumhaar, Rajwar, Ghatal, Hari, Muchi, and Dom artisan communities, Santhal, Munda, Oraon, Kharia, and Birhor tribal communities, are known for their love of jhumur music and dance.

Because it uses an ancient language, Jhumur is renowned for its lyrical and literary significance.

Throughout the year, various Jhumur songs are performed.

For instance, the songs Chaitali and Bhadauria are performed during the springtime month of Chaitra and Bhadra, respectively. Even now, many people enjoy the music of Jhumur.

If you love traditional dance, you will enjoy the ‘pata nach’.

A well-liked Purulia dancing style is pata naach.

It is customary to perform this dance with Bhaduria Jhumur songs in the month of Bhadra (the end of the monsoon).

The root of the term pata is pankti, which means line. A line of dancers does this dance.

The women of the village dance as their arms are linked. The males play dhamsa, madal, flute, etc., to accompany them.

Chhau Dance

The traditional folk dance “Chau” is the center of Purulia’s culture. It depicts the beauty of Purulia.

Every year many tourist wants to explore Purulia mainly for getting real flavor of Chhau dance.

Chhau dance is my personal favorite.

The uncommon masked dancers of chhau, symbolizing the local culture, are well-liked by the Santhals, Kumars, Mahatos, Kalindis, and Sahish groups.

This dance has become well-known worldwide because of the employment of stunning masks, a distinctive movement style, makeup, and vibrant costumes.

Due to the physical power and agility required for dance, many people view this discipline as a martial art.

The Chau dance is an essential component of Purulia’s ceremonies and celebrations. In the past, productions have mainly been based on mythological tales from the Ramayana, the Puranas, etc.

Still, today’s shows use contemporary issues like the Santhal revolt, the Kargil war, etc., as themes.

Garpanchkot

purulia tourist guide map

Garpanchkot is in the northeastern portion of the Purulia District, near the border with the districts of Burdwan and Jharkhand, at the foot of Panchakot (Panchet Hill).

A hilltop provides stunning, all-encompassing views of the Panchet dam’s control structure, the Damodar River, and the reservoir.

A visual pleasure is viewing the birds at Panchet Dam.

How to Get There: Visitors arriving by train should disembark at the Barakar or Asansol stations, where they may hire a trekker for the hour-long journey to Garpanchkot.

You can use a car to travel the distance by following National Highway 2. Turn left and take the route heading to Raghunathpur after passing Asansol.

The destination is a few kilometers away by way of the village path after getting to the Satbari stop.

Joychandi Pahar

Joychandi Pahar (Hill) is a popular destination for avid rock climbers, yet mostly undiscovered.

The hill bears Chandi Ma’s name (Goddess Chandi). On this hill’s summit is a modest shrine in her honor.

There are several tiny lakes nearby and an abandoned tower that thieves reportedly used in the past.

It might take a lot of work to ascend the 400 stairs to the summit.

The area has no water sources because it is so dry and desolate. Please bring a lot of water with you because the area is still quite hot and is far from the nearest village.

From Purulia to Raghunathpur, one must take a bus to get to this location.

There aren’t many places to stay, but the roadside eateries offer quick meals.

You can take tuk-tuks to the beginning of the trek.

You won’t find any public transportation here, so please arrange a time with the driver to be picked up.

One of the most well-liked travel spots in Purulia is Cheliama. It is well recognized for having a rich history and being an archaeologist and historian’s dream.

Around the town, there are still traces of 17th-century culture.

The sculptures and figures in the temples around the town serve as excellent representations of the ages’ architecture, artistic style, and cultural heritage.

In addition to this, the famed Radha-Govinda Temple in Cheliama draws a large number of visitors.

Due to its extensive history, Cheliama, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Purulia, is a historian and an archaeologist’s dream come true.

The 17th century’s modern civilization is still evident in the village.

The village’s status as a significant landmark in the past is attested to by the terracotta figurines and unique carvings surrounding the temples.

In addition, the famous Radha-Govinda Temple in Cheliama, which draws many visitors, serves as a focal point for the Bengali culture still present in modern times.

A well-liked tourist site, Para is also a community that is credited with bringing Islam to the east. You may find two pre-Muslim deuls in the area, one in harmony with the temple in Deulghat and the other from a later time.

They both stand out as excellent representations of the art and architecture of their respective eras.

One is reminded of the ancient ages by the inheritance structures.

The town of Para is a beautiful tourist destination and serves as a reminder of the arrival of Muslims in the east.

Two pre-Muslim deuls may be found in the area, one in harmony with the temple in Deulghat and the other from a later time.

Both are superb examples of the impressive architecture and great tastes used in bygone eras.

These artifacts are still beautiful despite being over a century old.

Tourists would undoubtedly be transported back in time by the historic structures.

purulia offbeat places,

In the Purulia district, there are hills called the Ayodhya Hills.

It is an extended section of the Eastern Ghats range and a portion of the Dalma Hills.

Gorgaburu is the highest mountain in the Ajodhya Hills.

Baghmundi is the closest town with a population. Young mountaineers frequently go there to take basic rock climbing training.

The region is the Chota Nagpur Plateau’s lowest stepping stone. In general, the landscape is undulating with isolated hills.

A broad plateau surrounds Bagmundi or Ajodhya Hill.

How to Get There: Ayodhya Hill is 42 kilometers from Purulia town and 260 km from Kolkata.

The Durgapur Expressway joins Purulia and Kolkata.

The intricate carvings and embellishments on the temples in this region are well-known for their architecture.

Deulghat is a country of temples, according to its name.

There are roughly 15 temples in the area surrounding the Kansai River.

One of the main factors making Deulghat one of the most popular tourist destinations in Purulia is the temple’s magnificent architecture, which is complemented by its elegant carvings.

The temple displays the traditional way of life of the populace today.

Deulghat is still a significant tourist destination even though the temple is nothing but ruins.

Known for its stylish excellence, The MathaBuru is a slope.

Tribal groups are holding a ” Mela” there.

The unique association typically runs camps and rock climbing lessons during the winter.

Over 2000 high school and college students attended the 31 camps.

Some of the forest protection committee members go out as neighborhood helpers, while others provide food to the camp.

purulia offbeat places

The Purulia administrative division contains a small community development block called Baghmundi.

Numerous dams and the magnificent Ayodhya Hills draw countless tourists to this location every year to admire its natural beauty.

You can find a wide variety of flora and fauna in the lush green forests, cascading waterfalls, and undulating hills that make up this picturesque landscape.

From historical and archaeological sites to ecotourism, travelers can experience various activities.

Nearby Baghmundi, Ayodhya Hill has enormous mythical significance to Hindus.

During their exile, it is said that Lord Ram and his wife Sita traveled to Ayodhya Hill.

Lord Rama shot his arrow through the ground to release a flood of water to appease Sita’s hunger.

Since that time, this location has been known as Sita-Kunda.

On a Baisakhi full moon day, tribal people from nearby villages gather here to participate in the game of animal hunting.

They pursue tiny creatures like rabbits and jungle hens.

There isn’t a railroad station within 10 kilometers of Baghmundi.

But Bokaro Steel City Rail Way Station is a significant railroad hub only 55 kilometers from Baghmundi.

Baranti is a modest, serene, and beautiful location.

Between two little hillocks, Muradi Hill and Baranti Hill lies a two km-long irrigation project dam.

The Ramchandrapur Irrigation Project is close to Baranti.

Baranti offers a magnificent view of the reservoir.

It is a location where one can escape the humdrum of everyday life and refresh their mind and spirit.

It is a beautiful piece of the Rarh countryside.

Baranti is a popular destination for daylong picnics among locals from adjacent villages.

The Muradi Station in Asansol is where you must exit to get there.

The 6 km away Baranti can be reached by rickshaw or trekker from there. If driving, exit the highway at Asansol, go through Asansol, and then continue straight ahead toward Ramchandrapur.

On the road, it is roughly a 15 km distance from the city to Muradi More (crossing). It would help if you then traveled the village road leading to Baranti.

The state’s most western district has a tropical area of West Bengal called Purulia.

Purulia is spread across an area larger than 6,259 square kilometers; the region includes the localities of Bankura, Paschim Medinipur, Bardhaman, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ranchi, West Singhbhum, and East Singhbhum.

Access to West Bengal’s modern belts is provided by this region, which is the westernmost part of the state.

India’s West Bengal state contains Khairabera Lake, which is located there. It is 67 kilometers (km) by road or car.

The irrigation dam is in Baghmundi, a region of hills and forests. Visitors find the location to be very charming.

Several features draw tourists because of their tranquility, geology, falls, streams, vegetation, other features, and the area’s natural beauty.

One of the main draws of this location is Bamni Falls.

It is one of the most incredible places and shouldn’t be excluded from the agenda; therefore, keep visiting this great heaven in West Bengal.

Tugga and Bramni

Popular picnic locations include Tugga and Bramni Falls, which are close to Baghmundi.

These dams are located in beautiful areas. Tall Sal trees are a testament to the area’s rich history.

There are numerous species of birds that live in diverse flora. It is the ideal location for spending a lazy day with loved ones.

Murguma Dam

The town is a tribal one. From the Purulia and Jharkhand stations, a vehicle may be used to go to the location.

It is advantageous to visit Kenkichi Hill, Murguma Dam Lake, and the forests.

For those who enjoy chilly evenings, winter is ideal.

When visiting during the winter, visitors should pack enough warm clothing because the temperature lowers to 3 degrees Celsius in the evening and hovers about 5 to 6 degrees after dusk.

It is a deep dam. Visitors who are unable to swim should stay away.

If you go on a whole moon night, it is an enjoyable experience you will never forget.

It’s delightful to trek through the bush to a nearby tribal community or goes to a hilltop because of the lush vegetation there.

Duarsini is a little tribal community located in the Purulia district, around 13 kilometers from Burdwan.

The Dalma Hills’ scenic backdrop, complete with undulating hills and verdant vegetation, gives this community its allure.

Since the Dalma Forest is home to various animals, including bears, wolves, boars, and several known and unidentified bird species, nature lovers will particularly like this location.

Elephants occasionally emerge from the jungle and enter Duarsini.

Spending some peaceful time on the banks of the Satgurang River, which runs past Duarsini, is a lovely way to unwind and relax.

It is the ideal vacation if you’re sick of all the touristic and congested areas.

The air will reverberate with the rhythmic beats of modals (drums) at night.

One may find numerous tribal communities belonging to the Santhals, Shabaradh, Kheriya, and Munda tribes nearby.

Except for three cottages managed by the West Bengal Forest Department, this location lacks both power and lodging options. The dwellings have a rustic, tribal appearance.

Saheb Bandh

A 50-acre lake in Purulia called Saheb Bandh was built in the middle of the 19th century.

According to legend, prisoners excavated this spring of water during the British Raj at Colonel Tikley’s request.

Five years passed between the commencement of this procedure in 1843 and its conclusion.

These days, Saheb Bandh is regarded as a haven for migrating birds.

Birds go here throughout the migration season from Siberia, Balochistan, and various European locations.

Therefore, Saheb Bandh is a well-liked getaway for local birdwatchers.

Saheb Bandh, a 50-acre lake, is one of Purulia’s most mysterious sites.

In terms of the location’s history, it is thought to have been constructed in the middle of the 19th century.

Prisoners allegedly dug this water source at Colonel Tikley’s request.

In the year 1843, they began the procedure.

The construction of the water feature took five years.

Saheb Bandh, a stunning and captivating place, is a stopover point for migrating birds.

Surulia, a destination for eco-tourists and a favorite picnic spot for travelers, was created by the forest department.

The Eco Park, situated on the bank of the river Kangsabati and only 6 km from the main town, is very popular with tourists.

Inside, there is a deer park and a tourism cottage.

Witness Purulia Beauties in Different Way

Purulia is not a traditional tourist spot, rather it is one of the best offbeat tourist destinations in India. The magical beauty of Purulia is well known.

This location is ideal for tourists because of the verdant scenery and thick forests surrounded by imposing hills.

The earth’s atmosphere and seductive mountains enhance this mysterious land’s calm beauty. For city dwellers, it is a visual pleasure.

The surrounding nature is lavishly ornamented with red and green hues (red soil in Purulia). Here, the mountains are rough.

Plan your Ajodhya Hill tour around the area’s hills, abundant vegetation, and historical buildings and temples near the forest’s edge or along the mountain’s ridge.

Due to their lengthy history, numerous archaeological digs have been conducted here.

When Palash and Krishna Chura are in full bloom in the springtime, the area is enveloped in a rich shade of vermillion crimson.

With the spring, the Chota Nagpur plateau is completely covered in red, giving the impression that a wildfire is raging.

The addition of new blooms transforms the appearance of the natural world.

Nature and humans have a complex history of interaction.

Every Indian mythology has always portrayed nature as its center.

We are aware of the ancestors’ methods in their prayers to call upon the gods of nature.

Agni, the Fire God, is thought to have been a Palash blossom when he was born on earth.

Here, the monsoon arrives alone and announces itself by soaking the rural streets with sparkling raindrops.

This season’s vibe is so distinctive that it captivates travelers with its alluring attractiveness. Its beauty has the power to enchant poets.

The nature that has just received its first rain adds pure beauty to this location.

This area is well-known for its tribal inhabitants, mythological past, and old-world aroma.

Take no concern if you are unsure about seeing Purulia’s attractions.

The Chota Nagpur plateau includes West Bengal’s most western district.

This area exudes an addictive vibe.

Numerous folktales and mythological fables have been created to represent the history of this enchanting realm.

The native inhabitants of this area are the sons of the soil, and the soil itself bleeds red, has been traveled over by countless people, and bears silent witness to their presence.

top activities at purulia trip plan

Palash utsav, jungel trek, explore the best places for purulia trip plan, murguma dam.

Murguma Dam-The Murugama Dam is constructed on the Saharajhore River, the tributary of the Kangsabati River in West Bengal, India. The dam lies in the foothills of Ajodhya hill, Purulia District of West Bengal. This area is inhabited by tribal people, especially the Santal community. Nestled in the heart of the dense forest this place happens to be a popular tourist spot and is included in our Ajodhya Hill tour package.

Mayur Pahar

Yogini cave located in the deep forest has been associated with several mythological stories. Myth has it that when Sati (a queen and an incarnation of goddess Durga) died, her soul stayed inside this cave before she was reborn as Parvati; here too, she tried to camouflage herself against her the demon Shukra, who would often come to harm her in the disguise of snakes. To guard her against his evil doings, Lord Shiva remained in disguise as a ‘Mayur’ (peacock) near the cave. Due to this incident, the hill got its name Mayur Pahar.

Bamni falls

Purulia is one of the most beautiful and picturesque location to spend time in. It lies on the way to Bhagmundi from Ayodhya. The perfect time to visit Purulia is during monsoon or after monsoon. You can easily visit to the famous waterfall at Barria, about 500 steps down. The steps are made of concrete halfway down the road. Scattered with boulders and surrounded by forest, this place has a wild beauty. One can sit on the big boulders and relax for a while. However stones being slippery, one must be very careful. Further down the midway, there is no concrete carpet, the steps gradually change into big rocks and mud. The path unwinds into green bushes while moving down the path, gives a unique experience like trekking in the Jungle. The steps being slippery and narrow, elderly people are advised not to visit this fall. Gar Panchakot

When nature has blessed a place with a beauty, it is followed by the demise of it. It is one such instance that happened in the history of Purulia when Bargi's attack during the 18th century resulted in total destruction of the town and its surroundings. After the attack, they plundered the palace and killed many of its guards. This resulted in a suicide pact among all 17 queens. The pillars built around ponds used to be the testimony of history but today, Garh Panchkot is abandoned and an evidence of history. The original name of Panchet is not known. But it is believed that Damodar Sekhar established Panchkot Raj probably during the early 90 AD along with the help of Sardars of Jhalda. The Sultans of Burdwan ruled over this area from the middle of the 17th century, through the end of British rule in India in 1947.Panchkot is at the edge of a beautiful forest, with rolling hills and forested surroundings. The town has unique religious sites, with some dating back to the twelve century Gupta Dynasty.
