When you’ve had your fill of history, culture and man-made wonders, sometimes sun, sea and sand is all you need. Desert islands like Fiji and Maui top the bucket lists of many a traveller, with all the ingredients for the perfect exotic holiday: tropical climes, swaying palms and blissful white-sand beaches. Closer to home, the Canary Island of Fuerteventura and Vis in Croatia make getting away from it all as easy as pie. Whether you're after some serious escapism or want to marvel at mother nature, Lucy McGuire picks some of the most exotic places to travel in the world. And for more inspiration, read our where to go when alternative month-by-month guide .

1. Maui, Hawaii

2. puerto rico, 3. fuerteventura, canary islands, 4. tayrona national park, colombia, 5. vis, croatia, 6. french polynesia, 7. the yucatan, mexico, 8. koh rong samloem, cambodia, 9. whitsunday islands, australia, 11. madagascar.

With a legendary surf scene and golden crescent beaches that span more than 120 miles, there are attractions everywhere you turn in Hawaii . Maui, known as "the Valley Isle", is a favourite for its misty peaks, gorgeous sunsets and bamboo forests. Relax on Kaanapali Beach or see the red sands at Kaihalulu – it’s like no other beach in the world.

Where to stay

Best hostel: Friendly Tiki Beach Hostel is the perfect surfer hangout for travellers on Maui. The beach is just moments away, while the communal areas are great for socialising with other guests. Rooms can be booked either indoors or outdoors; all come with indoor bathrooms, free Wi-Fi and communal kitchen facilities. There's a Women's Dorm ("Wahine"), too. Group activities – such as Friday night BBQs – add to the fun.

Best beachfront hotel: Napili Kai Beach Resort is a dazzling beachfront property where you can eat, sleep and play to the sounds of the ocean. The resort has its own putting green, four swimming pools, two whirlpool hot tubs, several outdoor BBQ areas and even two shuffleboard courts. Whether you want to put your feet up or while away the days with more active pursuits, it is all possible here.

Best to stay active: Maui is a tropical wonderland, laced with tremendous trails and hiking routes. Book onto a 5h Waterfall and Rainforest Hike to take in a range of breathtaking 10–40m-high waterfalls. You'll have the chance to swim in natural pools, enjoy a fresh picnic lunch and learn all about the culture, flora and fauna of the area from your experienced naturalist guide.

Best to relax: A Luxurious sunset cruise is an enchanting way to see Maui in the colourful tones of the evening. Drink in the sunset views from a luxury catamaran, while your award-winning chef prepares your dinner. Experiences don't come better than this.

With a tropical climate, secluded palm-fringed beaches and topography as varied as a patchwork quilt, Puerto Rico is arguably the most exotic island in the Caribbean. Spot tree frogs in the dense jungle of El Yunque, take a night-time swim in the bioluminescent Mosquito Bay and admire the country's abundance of beautiful golden sands.

Best for spa & golf: The Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort is a luxurious four star with all the amenities you'd expect from a world-class resort hotel. There are two championship golf courses, while the Mandara Spa takes its inspiration from Bali and features meditation areas, a salon and several steam rooms. Bedrooms, meanwhile, are light and airy with splashes of colour.

Best budget option: Aside from being kind on the wallet, Chalet Olas del Sol sports superlative sea views. There's a garden, too, as well as a number of great hikes in the area. With two bedrooms, a living room and a fully equipped kitchen, Olas del Sol is a great option for small groups or families on a budget.

For water enthusiasts: Active travellers shouldn't miss the chance to kayak in Fajardo . Taking to the waters of Bio Bay Laguna Grande Nature Reserve comes with a twist. After a full safety briefing, you'll head out in your kayak for a sunset to remember; after dark falls, the magic really begins. Marvel at the bioluminescent bay as the water's surface comes alive with twinkling sparkles created by tiny organisms. It is the perfect reminder that Puerto Rico is among the world's the most exotic holiday destinations.

For hiking: El Yunque is the only tropical rainforest registered by the US National Forest System. It offers fantastic hiking, with dense foliage, tumbling waterfalls and gushing rivers. The best way to learn about the area and its native flora and fauna is to take a guided tour to El Yunque .

Also, in our detailed guide you will find more different things to do in Puerto Rico .

If you're looking for exotic destinations close to home, this one's for you! Fuerteventura m ight just be the most interesting island in the Canaries, thanks to its deserted beaches, crystal-clear water and hippy vibe. Steady trade winds make it prime territory for watersports. Alternatively, if you’re looking for an all-over tan, join the naturists who flock here for its famed nudist beaches. For more information check out our guide to the Canary Islands .

Best for families: The all-inclusive AluaVillage Fuerteventura is the perfect base for families in Fuerteventura, with a dedicated children's pool, children's area and a chock-a-block entertainment programme. While the kids are happily amused, adults can take advantage of the spa – complete with steam bath, whirlpool tub, saunas and sundeck.

Best for spa & wellness: The Royal Palm Resort & Spa - Adults Only welcomes guests who are sixteen and older, making this an excellent choice for couples after some serious pampering. The spa includes an indoor pool, landscaped sauna area, gym and even a salt cave. As you might expect, there's an extensive list of cosmetic and wellness treatments on offer, too.

Best for spectacular landscapes: Book onto a Dune Buggy Tour to take in the gorgeous scenery of Fuerteventura in a PGO 600 buggy. Petrol heads and adventurers are in for a wild ride, with most of the tour spent exploring off road.

Best for ocean tours: If a Dune Buggy Tour sounds like a bit too much adrenaline, plump for a Dolphin & Whale watching tour instead. Seeing these beautiful animals breaching the waters is a breathtaking experience.

Azure water, swaying hammocks and hidden beaches can all be found in Colombia – a country that until recently has escaped the tourist trail. Hike through Tayrona National Park , an eco-traveller’s dream destination and hands down one of the most exotic places to travel in the world. It’s the perfect place to stay in a beach hut, feast on exotic fruits and explore beautiful lagoons.

Best for beachfront vibes: With an outdoor pool and a sun terrace literally overlooking the beach, Senda Casa Tayrona Los Naranjos enjoys a stunning location. The characterful thatched roof and dark-wood shutters give the whole place tropical tiki vibes.

Best hostel: Shuttles from Simon Bolivar airport can be arranged directly to Viajero Hostel Tayrona & Ecohabs , making this a very accessible choice. But ease of access isn't the only thing going for Viajero Hostel. There's also a stunning pool, hammocks strung up under the palms and bookable activities including surf classes. The restaurant, meanwhile, serves up delicious dishes of fresh seafood. Why not wash it down with a tropical cocktail?

The secret’s out; the Croatian island of Vis has some serious pulling power among island hoppers, thanks to its dramatic cliffs and exotic beaches. This gem in the Adriatic is a short boat ride away from the Croatian town of Split , yet its secluded coves would look right at home in the tropics. Take a boat to Stiniva, a hidden beach that’s often heralded as the best in Europe.

Best for staying in the historical centre: Hotel San Giorgio is a friendly place with kind and helpful staff and a charming garden courtyard. Rooms are clean, colourful and come in the form of standard doubles plus junior and deluxe suites. The latter comes with a jacuzzi – perfect for special occasions and anniversaries.

Best sea-front spot: Mira Sea Front Guesthouse offers a good range of self-catering apartments on Vis. The studios and apartments are found in two different locations, both in the small village of Komiza. True to the name, all have sea views.

Rough Guides has paired with local experts in Croatia to offer personalized holidays – find out more! You could take a sailing trip along the Adriatic coast or explore the Dalmatian coast from two bases .

French Polynesia is undoubtedly one of the most exotic places to go on holiday, where emerald lagoons sparkle and the scents of vanilla, coconuts and Tiare Tahiti flowers fill the air. Yes, it's as beautiful as you've heard. You won’t be able to cover all five archipelagos (a total of 118 islands), so head to Maupiti: "the untouched island". Its beaches are whiter-than-white, it’s sprinkled with mystical caves and Mount Te’urafa’atiu offers breathtaking views.

In Bora Bora: The Maitai Bora Bora offers a range of accommodation, from classic overwater bungalows to beach bungalows and ocean- and garden-view rooms. Located near to Matira Beach, the only public beach on Bora Bora, the hotel also has two restaurants and two bars. Settle in to your new luxurious surroundings before taking to the waters to get up close and personal with the island's dazzling marine life.

In Tahiti: Vanira Lodge , in the village of Teahupoo on the Tahiti peninsula, faces the ocean on one side and is backed by dense forest on the other. For exotic locations, this is the spot to beat. Choose from "nature", "spa" or "terrace" bungalows. All are exquisite, but the Maara nature bungalow is particularly atmospheric; raised on stilts at the edge of the forest, it's a far cry from the bungalows back home.

In Bora Bora: Explore the underwater world of Bora Bora on a Shark & Snorkeling Safari and seek out black tip sharks, moray eels, sting rays and other tropical marine life. Knowledgeable guides will help you spot colourful fish. Warning: searching for sharks, naturally, isn't for the faint of heart.

In Moorea: Booking a Half-day 4x4 Safari Tour will allow you to discover a number of island highlights in style. From visiting a tropical garden to admiring an old volcano crater from the island's pineapple fields and visiting a distillery, travellers will be captivated from start to finish.

This southeast corner of Mexico which separates the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea has all the ingredients for an exotic holiday. Explore Tulum’s wide beaches, cool off in unique limestone cenotes and swim with whale sharks off Isla Holbox. The Mesoamerican reef just offshore – the world’s second longest – boasts a wealth of marine life.

In Tulum: If you love art and design, look no further than Casa Malca . This luxury hotel oozes contemporary charm, while modern art is hung throughout the rooms, hallways and communal areas. The spacious suites are works of art in themselves, making this a popular spot for weddings.

In Playa del Carmen: The philosophy at Palmaïa - The House of Aïa Wellness Enclave All Inclusive is all about being in harmony with nature. The concept is played out in everything from "vegan suites" to hand-crafted dishes in their restaurant and an innovative "Architects of Life" programme that promotes spiritual growth. Yoga, meditation, healing ceremonies or transpersonal astrology, anyone?

In Tulum: Tulum isn't all about white-sand beaches. The area's long history and rich culture is showcased in the wealth of Mayan ruins here – best explored with the help of a local guide. Visit the archaeological zone and a cenote on a guided tour to get beneath the skin of the area's culture before cooling off in a gorgeous cenote.

In Playa del Carmen: It would be criminal to stay in Playa del Carmen without visiting world-famous Chichén Itzá . The massive El Castillo pyramid that once dominated the old Mayan city remains the undisputed highlight. On a guided tour you'll not only benefit from the knowledge of your guide, but you'll save time by skipping the lines, too.

Consider combining the Yucatán with a visit to Mexico City or head to Chiapas and the famous Sumidero Canyon before relaxing on the white sandy beaches of Playa del Carmen . Contact our local expert today for your personalized quote.

This paradise island off Cambodia ’s southern coast is one of the Gulf of Thailand’s most exotic places to travel. It’s starkly different to the tourist town of Sihanoukville (where you catch the ferry), as you’ll find no traffic and very little development, except for a few rustic beach huts. Go night swimming with bioluminescent plankton off M’Pei Bay, take a rainforest hike or sip a coconut in a hammock on Saracen Bay.

Best for families with children: One Resort has a children's playground, plus a range of fantastic activities for the whole family to enjoy (think snorkelling, diving and fishing). The in-house restaurant makes mealtimes carefree, while the resort's two swimming pools and private beach area are perfect for cooling off. Family rooms and bungalows complete the picture.

Best budget choice: The white and blue beach huts of Sarasea Resort are totally charming, with little patios out front to sit and watch the world go by. Facilities include a restaurant, bar, garden and private beach area. The bungalows may look simple, but each comes with a flat-screen TV – not that you'll want to watch it, with the ocean lapping at your door.

With Rough Guides tailor-made trips we can connect you with a local expert in Cambodia to plan your ideal holiday . Everything is one hundred percent customizable, so if there's an activity or experience you've always dreamed of, just let us know.

The brilliant white and blue hues of the Whitsunday Islands have become an iconic exotic location for travellers exploring Australia. Located off coastal Queensland, it’s home to the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef – a dream for serious divers. With hiking trails and secluded beaches, it’s just as beautiful above the water. Visit between July and September to catch a glimpse of the migrating humpback whales.

Hamilton Island beachfront: Large rooms – with private balconies – and gorgeous views are the hallmark of the Reef View Hotel . To make the most of the hotel's beachfront location, ask for a room that looks out over the twinkling Coral Sea, though the garden rooms are pleasant too. On top of various room options (including family rooms) are a range of superlative suites. For those with deep pockets, the two-bed terrace suite and the presidential suite are the best of the bunch.

Best for on a budget: Palm Bungalows might be reasonably priced, but there's nothing else that feels "budget" here. The stylish interiors are light and airy, while private balconies overlook the lush, tropical gardens. With air conditioning, tea and coffee and free Wi-Fi, plus a fitness centre, swimming pools and tennis courts, the facilities are excellent, too. And with Catseye Beach just a two-minute walk away, the world is your oyster.

Best for active travellers: There's a whole host of exciting activities to get excited about on the Whitsundays. For a day to remember, why not roll several stellar experiences into one, by attempting to snorkel, raft, and bush walk - all in one day . Action-packed adventures don't come better than this.

Best views: The Whitsunday Islands might look great from ground level, but the views from the air are something else entirely. Book a scenic flight from Airlie Beach and enjoy bird's-eye views over the dramatic seascapes of the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef. In-flight commentary helps travellers identify the key landmarks from above.

When it comes to exotic holiday destinations, Fiji is hard to beat. A country blessed with gorges, mangrove forests, waterfalls and natural pools, it's the jewel of the South Pacific. There are over three hundred islands in the archipelago and its marine parks offer incredible soft coral diving. It’s also where five different turtle species, spinner dolphins and the rare Fiji crested iguana all call home.

Best for culture enthusiasts: The Untold Broadway Show entrance is a contemporary story about ancient Fiji told through song and dance. It's a well choreographed show, staged in a 450-person capacity arena by internationally renowned dance company VOU Dance Fiji. Prepare to be blown away.

Best for nature experience: The Fijan Nature & Waterfall Experience takes in the sublime tropical rainforests of Colo-I-Suva Nature Reserve, where your experienced guide will highlight all the local flora and fauna. Jungle treks can be hot work, but there are several natural pools and waterfalls along the way – the perfect excuse to jump in and cool off.

Exotic African Islands - Bijagos Islands

Bijagos Islands (Guinea Bissau)

Located off the coast of Guinea Bissau in West Africa, the Bijagos Islands are an untouched paradise with impressive biodiversity. This is one of those exotic places that most people have never heard of, let alone visited. The island is located 38 miles off the coast of Bissau, the country’s capital.

Best Things to Do in the Bijagos Islands

The island of Orango is one of the most biodiverse of the Bijagos Islands.  There you can visit the saltwater hippopotamuses by trekking an hour inland from the beach to their fresh water ponds.

The trek winds along a sandy path through tall grasses, and you can see birds and deer along the way.  The hippos are protected and sacred to the inhabitants of the island, and each visitor is allowed to spend 20 minutes with them.

There is also a long, beautiful stretch of beach on the island that stretches from the Orango Hotel to the drop-off point for the hippo trek.

Lamu Island Kenya

Lamu Island (Kenya)

Most people traveling to Kenya cannot wait to see the country’s diverse array of wildlife and stunning national parks and reserves (including Amboseli , Meru and the Maasai Mara ).

However, visitors also should not miss out on the little-known (but incredible) Lamu island, which is located just off the coast in northern Kenya .

This part of the country differs significantly from the southern region, offering unspoiled nature as well as a unique culture.

Best Things to Do in Lamu Island

When visiting Lamu Island, you’ll have a chance to walk the streets of Lamu Old Town , one of the world’s oldest inhabited cities. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001, this historic area is truly a journey back in time.

However, you should also make sure to leave the city streets behind and explore the beautiful nature of Lamu during your visit.

I stayed on the southern tip of this beautiful island and went for long walks on Lamu’s beaches, climbed sand dunes for incredible sunset views, and went for a snorkeling trip along the coast.

I spent a full week on Lamu Island, which was the perfect amount of time to see and explore the island as well as to relax and unwind from my previous travels .

Where to Stay in Lamu Island

There are a few guesthouses and hotels directly in Lamu Town, but I decided to stay in the lovely and peaceful Kizingo  resort. It’s located on the southern tip of Lamu Island, and is highly recommended.

Here, you’re surrounded by remote beaches and far away from the hustle and bustle of the town.   – Patrick Muntzinger of German Backpacker Travel Blog

Madagascar is sometimes referred to as “the eighth continent.” Ever since it split from the African land mass, the East African island evolved in isolation.

This resulted in an incredible amount of plants and animals that are found nowhere else on the planet, which makes for a truly exotic island vacation.

Those planning to relax can head to Nosy Be Island, a smaller island just off the northern shore, which is home to stunning beaches. Madagascar is the perfect destination for wildlife lovers.

Best Things to Do in Madagascar

Everyone knows about  Ring-tailed Lemurs , which were made famous by the 2005 animated film based on the island. But Madagascar animal life offers so much more.

There’s the Fossa, the island’s largest carnivore (the size of a small cougar); Chameleons in all shapes and sizes; the Leaf-tailed Gecko (one of the weirdest animals we’ve seen); many endemic birds; and more.Ranomafana and Andasibe/Mantadia National Parks are great destinations to see wildlife .

Landscapes around the island are also incredibly varied. Within a few hundred miles you can find deserts , rainforests, mountains , spiny forests, and heavenly stretches of coastline.

A road trip around the Route 7, which runs down the southern half of the island, is a great way to explore the Madagascar’s diverse landscapes

Exotic Islands in Africa - Mafia Island Tanzania

Mafia Island (Tanzania)

Some people claim that Mafia Island Marine Park offers the best snorkeling in all of East Africa . Still, the island– which is about 100 miles southeast of Dar es Salaam– remains well off the tourism track.

The small tropical island is packed with deserted beaches and a few low-rise boutique hotels that cater to divers. But it should be known as a barefoot-style island getaway, where time stands still.

Best Things to Do in Mafia Island

Snorkeling and diving are by far the main draws here. Mafia Island is home to 460 species of fish and 50 hard corals, and whale sharks visit the archipelago annually.

There are 160 species of birds in the area, as well as wildlife rarities such as Dwarf Hippos and Comoros Flying Foxes.

Take a nature walk to explore the verdant green inland and you’ll find overgrown ruins which shed light on the past of the Swahili coast.

Where to Stay in Mafia Island

Go barefoot in Butiama Beach, a casual beachfront boutique hotel on the western shore of Mafia Island. Butiama Beach has a prime location for whale shark watching, as the giants usually swim by the shore during their peak season.

Complimentary kayaks can take you to the island’s deserted sandbanks and uninhabited inlets, whereas snorkeling and diving trips explore nearby Mafia Island Marine Park. -Niina Lehikoinen 0f  Bizarre Globe Hopper

Curieuse island Seychelles - Giant tortoise photo by Full Suitcase

While most people associate the Seychelles with white sand beaches (and as one of the best islands for a honeymoon), this archipelago of more than 100 islands is actually a real nature lover’s paradise.

Every island offers something unique, whether it’s lush tropical forests , desolate beaches, endemic flora and fauna, or indigenous cultural traditions. Whether you’re a sun worshipper or an outdoor adventurer, the Seychelles is perfect for anyone looking for exotic vacation destinations.

Best of all, just a few islands are developed: The majority of the Seychelles is totally uninhabited.

Best Things to Do in Seychelles

Since the islands of the Seychelles are scattered in the Indian Ocean, it’s difficult to visit a lot of them in one trip. However, it’s fairly easy to build Seychelles holidays around a small cluster of islands in the vicinity of Praslin. For nature lovers, the following islands are the best places to visit in Seychelles:

Praslin , the second largest island, is home to Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). It’s a lush rainforest where you can find the world’s biggest nut, the coco-de-mer.

La Digue   Island is perfect for those who want to experience traditional local life. It also has some incredible scenery, especially at Anse Source D’Argent, a beautiful beach with giant granite boulders.

Curieuse  Island is a Marine National Park, and the best place to see giant tortoises , endemic birds, and untouched nature.

Cousin  Island is a paradise for bird-watchers, but there are also turtles, tortoises, and lots of other animal species. Snorkeling and Scuba diving are also very popular, with lots of nice spots all over the area. The coral reef here isn’t impressive, but there’s a large variety of colorful fish and sea turtles.

Where to Stay in Seychelles

Probably the best place to stay in this part of the Seychelles is in a Praslin Island hotel. This island has the best infrastructure, lodging for all budgets, and the possibility to arrange day trips. Check out Le Domaine de La Reserve or the  Colibri Hotel .

Best islands in Philippines -Coron, Palawan

Coron, Palawan (Philippines)

Coron encompasses a town (located on Busuanga Island), an island (nearby Coron Island), and over 50 minor islets in the Philippines’ Calamian archipelago. This is arguably the most picturesque part of Palawan , which has been voted Best Island in the Philippines and Best Island in the World several years in a row.

Best Things to Do in Coron

There are tons of awesome things to do in Coron, such as climbing Mount Tapyas, swimming in one of the world’s cleanest lakes (Lake Kayangan), snorkeling or Scuba diving impressively pristine coral reef systems, and island-hopping.

But it’s also an incredible place to simply soak in the otherworldly beauty of the stunning karst landscapes, impossibly blue waters, and jaw-dropping sunsets.

The beaches here have been consistently ranked among the best in the world, and the traditional Hilot massage will rub away any aches and pains you may have after a long day of outdoor adventure.

Where to Stay in Coron, Palawan

We enjoyed our time at  Club Paradise Resort Palawan – a secluded private island resort– so much that we stayed there twice.

They offer three types of rooms: Garden View Rooms, Garden Suites, and rustic Villas on both the east (sunrise) and west (sunset) sides of the island.

The snorkeling from the beach is exceptional (we saw Sea Turtles, Reef Sharks, Pufferfish, and Octopi), and their Glow Spa is both relaxing and shockingly affordable .

Exotic Asian Islands to Visit - Cat Ba Island Vietnam

Cat Ba Island (Vietnam)

The beautiful island of Cát Bà, located about three hours east of Hanoi, is perhaps best known as the home of Ha Long Bay.

Although Ha Long’s sheen has faded a bit in recent years due to mass tourism , this remains a stunning region where craggy limestone casts rise out of the turquoise sea. It’s also home to Ha Long’s less crowded (and more affordable!) sister, Lan Ha Bay.

Cát Bà is one of the best islands in Asia. And while its bays are breathtaking, you also won’t want to miss its mountainous jungles, world-class white sand beaches, and abundant wildlife .

Best Things to Do in Cat Ba Island

Going on a Lan Ha Bay cruise is a must. Be sure to book one that includes several kayaking stops, so you get a chance to marvel up close at the huge limestone cliffs looming above you.

Once you’re back on land, hit up Cat Ba National Park, where you can either choose a day hike through the jungle or a longer trek, like a 17-kilometer hiking trail to the remote fishing village of Viet Hai.

Exotic Islands to Visit in Asia- Komodo Island

Komodo Island (Indonesia)

The country of Indonesia is made up of more than 14,000 islands, but few are more interesting than the island of Komodo and the National Park located there.

Komodo National Park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986 in an effort to recognize and protect the area’s vast amount of biodiversity.

Not only does this region boast the famous (and increasingly rare) Komodo dragons, but it’s also one of the best islands in Indonesia if you want to see an incredible amount of marine life.

Best Things to Do in Komodo Island

Visiting one of the Komodo Dragon Conservation Centers is a must-do for anyone in this National Park, as it’s the only place in the world you can see these rare creatures in their natural habitat.

For those who are interested in Komodo diving, the very best thing you can do is visit Komodo National Park on a scuba diving liveaboard .

You’ll have the opportunity for scuba diving several times each day in the region’s more remote sites, and you’ll likely spot creatures such as Dolphins, Sharks , Sea Turtles, Manta Rays, and more!

Where to Stay in Labuan Bajo

It’s not possible to stay in a Komodo Island accomodation, since it’s a protected national park. Instead, most visitors stay on nearby Labuan Bajo Island and visit the park on a day trip.

Bonaire Island - Best Caribbean Islands

The small Caribbean island of Bonaire is the lesser known of the Netherlands’ “ABC Islands,” which also include Aruba and Curacao . While the other two islands have seen considerable urban development over the last few decades, Bonaire really hasn’t.

Bonaire is best known for its marine conservation , which dates back to the creation of   Bonaire National Marine Park in 1979. The island is a Scuba diving paradise, with over 80 dive sites and opportunities to see Loggerhead Turtles, Green Sea Turtles, and even Seahorses.

Bonaire is also a great place for birdwatching . Its mangroves offer safe nesting sites for beautiful birds  such as Herons, Ospreys, and Magnificent Frigates. Pink Flamingos can be observed in several locations, including the Pekelmeer Flamingo Sanctuary.

Best Things to Do in Bonaire

The island of Bonaire offers plenty of other outdoor activities for nature lovers. Visitors can hike in Washington Slagbaai National Park to see Iguanas in their natural environment, or kayak through the Lac Bay mangroves looking for Herons, reef fish, and the endangered Queen Conch.

It’s fun (and relatively easy) to bike the small, flat roads around the island. You can walk through Rincón, Bonaire’s old town, which was established by the Spanish in the 16th-century.

Learn about the island’s Dutch colonial past, which saw the expansion of salt harvesting and slavery, with the Slave Huts a reminder of that somber period.

And make sure to sample some Bonaire cuisine– a mix of fresh fish, Dutch influence,  Creole spices, and Spanish flavors. Local delicacies include barracuda ravioli, wahoo sushi, and iguana meatballs.

Best tropical islands to visit for nature lovers - Cuba

Cuba is arguably one of the best tropical islands to visit for nature lovers . [Editor’s note: Sadly, one of the world’s most buzzworthy island holiday destinations just became MUCH harder for U.S. residents to visit due to the current administration’s archaic policies .]

The largest island in the Caribbean, Cuba is home to a whopping 263 protected areas and six UNESCO biospheres . These include Buenavista, Cienega Zapata, Cuchillas del Toa, Baconao Peninsula de Guanacabibes, and Sierra del Rosario.

Amd with almost 4000 miles of sandy coastline, Cubas’s coral reefs are pristine and virtually untouched (one upside of decades of travel bans by the U.S. government).

Best Things to Do in Cuba

There are many things to do in all these biospheres, and it seems each one has a specialty.

Sierra del Rosario Biosphere is next to the town of Las Terrazas,  which is a self-sufficient, farm-to-table town at the forefront of ecotourism. Every restaurant in town serves only what they grow. Las Terrazas also has an artist’s colony as well as the longest zipline in Cuba, stretching over 6 crystalline lakes.

Dominica Island

Though often confused with the Dominican Republic, Dominica easily ranks among the best Caribbean islands due to its under-the-radar tourism profile and emphasis on ecotourism and conservation.

Known as the “Nature Island,” Dominica is said to be the only Caribbean island Christopher Columbus would still recognize if he landed there today.

And though Dominica has been hammered by devastating tropical storms in recent years, this tiny island (population 71,000) in the Lesser Antilles is as unspoiled as any destination we’ve ever visited. Even in 2019, a full two-thirds of its 290 square miles remains completely undeveloped.

Best Things to Do in Dominica

Morne Trois Pitons National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and contains a brief section of the 114-mile Waitukabuli National Trail . It’s also home to the stunning waterfalls at the aptly-named Emerald Pool, which we had all to ourselves during our visit.

The island’s location (and relative lack of tourism) makes it a great place to see nesting Sea Turtles, which are protected by the Dominica Sea Turtle Conservation organization.

You also won’t want to miss a whale-watching tour with Kubuli Watersports, run by Andrew Armour (who is locally known as “the Whale Whisperer”).

Other awesome things to do in Dominica include the volcano-fed hot springs of Screw’s Sulphur Spa, snorkeling/diving at the volcano -heated Champagne Reef, a boat tour down the Indian River, and getting to know the island’s indigneous cultural traditions at the Kalinago Barauna Aute.

Although this three-island nation is still under-the-radar for mainstream tourists, it’s ideal for independent travellers who want to immerse themselves in a naturally beautiful setting, but also crave exciting things to do.

Take a nature hike in Grenada’s Grand Etang National Park and you can expect to see Tree Boas, Green Iguanas and Lizards as well as Opossum, Armadillo, Mona Monkeys, and some of more than 177 species of birds .

Post-hike, you’ll feel as though you’ve landed in paradise when you cool off by plunging beneath   natural waterfalls .

Best Things to Do in Grenada

While there’s plenty to do in the island’s interior for outdoor adventurers, the best way to experience Grenada’s natural attractions is to explore its coast.

You’ll find 40 beautiful Grenada beaches with white sand, 30 dive sites, and several coral reefs. The government continues to expand the island’s marine protected areas: Its fourth, the Grande Anse Marine Protected Area, stretches south from the Port Louis Marina. It encompasses the pristine white sands of Grand Anse Beach, which is widely considered one of the world’s top beaches.

A must-do in St. George’s, the island’s capital city, is to take a snorkelling excursion on a wooden sailing sloop to the Grenada Underwater Sculpture Park . This is the world’s first underwater museum  (featuring sculptures by Jason deCaires Taylor ), and an innovative ecological project helping to raise awareness about the fragility of the world’s environment.

Where to Stay in Grenada

You don’t need to rough it in order to immerse yourself in nature in Grenada. Many of the island’s luxury hotels are small, sustainable, and full of character. Their restaurants serve cuisine that showcases locally-sourced ingredients such as organic chocolate, fresh seafood, and fragrant spices.

Beautiful Islands to visit -Turks and Caicos by Dianashealthyliving

The islands of Turks and Caicos have some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean . The crystal clear blue waters make it an incredible destination for snorkeling or scuba diving.

One of the best beaches in Turks and Caicos is Grace Bay Beach. The barrier reef is about a mile out and protects Grace Bay from the ocean swells of the Atlantic.

Best Things to Do in Turks and Caicos

There are many wonderful activities to enjoy on what I consider among the most  beautiful Caribbean islands . Both islands are primarily known for diving and snorkeling, as the island sits on an underwater plateau that rises more than 11,000 feet above the ocean floor.

The edges of the shelf are lined by miles of relatively unspoiled barrier reef . There are many wall diving sites and sheltered in-shore reefs. If snorkeling or diving is not your thing, lounging on the island’s beautiful beaches are just as good.

Where to Stay in Turks and Caicos

If there’s a downside to Turks and Caicos, it’s that the islands are relatively expensive. If you don’t mind cooking (though groceries are pricey as well), then renting an Airbnb may be a great option.

Best Things to Do on  Delos Island

I would suggest taking a guided tour to see this picturesque Greek island. Hike among the wildflowers, and walk past the famous Delos Lions towards Apollo’s Temple. Visit the Dolphin House, where a Rosetta Stone mosaic design still holds the artist’s signature from the 2nd century.

Walk among the many houses, which contain some of the best-preserved mosaic masterpieces from the 1st and 2nd Century BC. Many of these are considered even more well-preserved than those found in Pompeii.

Visit the Archeological Museum of Delos, which contains nine rooms full of artifacts found on the island from prehistoric times to the 15th century.

Where to Stay in Mykonos (to get to Delos)

While you cannot stay on the island of Delos itself, it is possible to stay on Mykonos and then take a ferry over to Delos. Of course Mykonos is also considered among the most beautiful Greek Islands, and is worthy of a visit on its own merits.

I recommend staying in Nissaki Boutique Hotel because of its close proximity to Psarou Beach, natural wood accents, and cascading pools.

You can also stay in the luxurious Mykonos Dove Beachfront Hotel , with sits olar powered umbrellas and private pools adorned with lush greenery. – Janiel from Culture Trekking

Best Greek Islands - Karpathos Greece

On Karpathos Island, which is located at the southeast corner of the Aegean Sea between Crete and Rhodes, people measure distances by walking time.

This long, thin, 116-square-mile island is criss-crossed by some 30 signed trails. They pass through forests, rocky mountains, agricultural land, shoreline, and ancient and modern villages. Once you’ve explored it, it’s no wonder some travelers consider Karpathos the prettiest Greek island.

Karpathos and its neighboring sister, Saria Island (which are separated by a 150-meter channel), combine unique natural environments with a fascinating cultural setting.

Once inhabited by Greeks, Romans, and pirates, today the islands attract migratory birds, the endangered Monk Seal , and a rich botanical array. The Natura 2000 nature reserve and national marine reserve demonstrate the island’s commitment to protecting its outstanding biodiversity.

Best Things to Do in Karpathos

Besides the hiking, Karpathos is known as a windsurfing mecca, with bays to suit every ability level. The island boasts more than 100 beaches, most in leeward coves with cliffs framing the clear water.

Snorkeling and caving are popular here. Scuba divers enjoy good visibility, underwater volcanic rock fields, and a few sunken ships. Back on land, activities include mountain biking and cliff climbing.

Hiking is often combined with birdwatching (over 200 species have been identified on the island) or a botanical and culinary walk (featuring dozens of endemic plants).

Don’t miss the northern village of Olympos for a taste of Karpathos’ distinctive food and culture. It produces some of the world’s best honey and the aromatic Greek oregano used generously in its dishes.

Where to Stay in Karpathos

Most Karpathos hotels are in the main port town of Pigadia (Karpathos City) or along the southern coast. Central to everything is the Alimounda Mare Hotel , which offers a complete array of upscale resort services.

For a more intimate, remote experience, try Villa Iliahtida in Tristomo . Contact EcoTourism Karpathos for your help with planning your eco-friendly trip. – Kristin Henning of Travel Past 50

Naxos Island Greece

Naxos is a beautiful Greek island that offers  the perfect combination of food and nature, tourist infrastructure and local authenticity.

The view from the island’s main dock says it all. To the left is an ancient ruin, straight ahead you can see the mountain ranges, and to the right is a great selection of restaurants.

Of course, the iconic white houses and wine-dark sea the Cycladic Islands are famous for complete the dramatic scene.

Best Things to Do in Naxos Greece

As Naxos is one of the largest islands in the archipelago, the best way to explore it is by renting a car. Head into the mountains and hike to find the Kouroi, which are ancient half-finished statues.

Scattered throughout these mountains are beautiful Greek churches and breathtaking views. There are enough traditional tavernas and olive presses to excite any food lover . Just be sure to visit a local shop to taste the world-famous Naxian cheeses.

Once you’ve had your fill of culture, you can relax on one of the amazing Naxo s beaches, where it is usually possible to find yourself almost completely alone!

Where to Stay in Naxos

Thalassa Naxos provides an amazing beachside base for exploration. This tranquil Naxos accommodation (with cooking facilities and fridge) is nestled in a quiet natural area with long white sandy beaches, cedar forests, and sand dunes.

If you’re more of a pool lover, then the family-friendly Naxos Palace Hotel will suit you perfectly. It is conveniently located within easy reach of the town and provides complimentary transport from the hotel every 30 minutes. – Samantha of Carry On or Bust

Aitutaki Cook Islands in the Polynesian Islands

Aitutaki (Cook Islands)

Aitutaki is more than just another jaw-dropping Polynesian island. It’s actually an archipelago of 15 of the most beautiful islands circling a postcard-perfect turquoise lagoon.

This is the perfect place for a holiday in Polynesia, with all the charm you’d expect from the South Pacific and surprisingly few of the tourists. In short, this is the place to indulge your castaway fantasies.

Best Things to Do in Aitutaki

Taking an Aitutaki lagoon tour is an absolute must. Several companies run small group tours, taking 8 to 12 people on a boat to a few of the nearby islets and the best snorkeling spots. Most include the chance to see giant Trevallies and Wrasses, Giant Clams, blue Starfish and bright purple coral.

For a more intimate, personal experience, rent a kayak or charter a water taxi and see where the mood takes you. You can even ask to be dropped off with a picnic lunch and have a deserted islet all to yourself for the day!

Back on land, don’t miss an “island night” cultural celebration. These luau-like feasts of food and music are the best way to see Polynesian dancing and try traditional Cook Islands cuisine.

Where to Stay in Aitutaki

Our favorite Aitutaki accommodation was Etu Moana , a locally-owned boutique hotel with eight gorgeous villas. There’s no all-inclusive option here, and no poolside waiter service. Just an honesty bar, a quiet stretch of beach, and several friendly cats. -Lisa Bott-Hansson of Rebellious Tourist

World Travel Bucket Lists -Bora Bora Tahiti

Bora Bora (Tahiti)

Bora Bora (whose original name in the Tahitian language means “first-born”) is a luxury traveler’s dream, and the epitome of exotic island indulgence. It’s no wonder Bora Bora is widely considered one of the best islands in the world for a honeymoon.

With two mountains in the center of the island and a picture-perfect lagoon and barrier reef surrounding it, it’s the quintessential Tahiti destination for rest, relaxation, and romance.

“Getting away from it all” is defined by a stay in one of Bora Bora’s famed thatched-roof bungalows, whose glass floors allow views of an underwater world filled with fish, Manta Rays, and Reef Sharks.

Best Things to Do in Bora Bora

Pearl Diving in Bora Bora had been on our bucket list ever since we saw it as a challenge on The Amazing Race . The Bora Bora Pearl Company offers a chance to do it in a picturesque setting, and you learn a lot about pearl-farming in the process. You even get to keep the pearl you harvest!

Swimming with Sharks is another awesome activity, and we found ourselves surrounded by Black-tipped Reef Sharks, Stingrays, and all sorts of tropical fish. Unfortunately many local tour operators still chum the waters, which isn’t exactly what you’d call a responsible travel practice.

But our favorite thing to do in Bora Bora was snorkeling the Ruahatu Lagoon Sanctuary at the Four Seasons Resort. Built from the ground up by marine biologist Oliver Martin, this tranquil lagoon was filled with fish, octopi, a coral farm, and intriguing underwater sculptures.

Where to Stay in Bora Bora

The Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora is everything you want from a Tahiti vacation. It’s got luxury over-water bungalows, stunning scenic vistas, gorgeous beaches, a sumptuous spa, and exquisite seafood.

In terms of the best holiday destinations for couples, it’s hard to beat. If you’ve got the budget, splurge for a private beachside dinner, complete with lobster and tiki torches! –Bret Love & Mary Gabbett

Best Exotic Polynesian Islands - Easter Island

Easter Island (a.k.a. Rapa Nui)

Easter Island, which is known locally as Rapa Nui, is a mysterious and mythical place.Protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site , this tiny island is littered with some 400 massive stone head statues (a.k.a. Moai ).

Though widely considered one of the world’s top islands to visit, Easter Island is very remote. There are only two ways to get there: a 4-hour flight from Tahiti or a nearly 6-hour flight from Santiago de Chile .

Best Things to Do in Easter Island

The obvious thing to do here is to either independently do the sightseeing of the Easter Island highlights, or join a guided tour group to take you to different places on the island.

Everything is magical here, but don’t miss out on visiting the Moai “birthplace” at Rano Raraku quarry. You can also explore the Ahu Tahai and Ahu Tongariki platforms, the dormant Rano Kau volcano, and Anakena Beach, which is the only white sand beach on the island.

One of our favorite Easter Island activities is  scuba diving . Ask to dive in the Hanga Roa Harbor if you want to see the eerie underwater moai! During the right season, you may even get to hear and spot the Whale migration in the clear waters.

Where to Stay on Easter Island

I highly suggest the 5-star Easter Island hotel,  Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa . Simply a beautiful and relaxing eco-resort, it’s definitely one of the best places to stay on the island.

While the hotel is within walking distance from the town center of Hanga Roa, they also provide a professional concierge service. So you can hire a car, arrange a guided tour, or simply get some R&R in its beautiful swimming pool.   -Halef and Michael of The Round The World Guys

Best Polynesian Islands -Savaii & Upolu Samoa

Savaii & Upolu (Samoa)

Western Samoa is an absolute gem in the Pacific, where volcanic activity has created incredible topography across two islands. Savaii and Upolu islands are arguably among the most beautiful islands in the world. They’re littered with waterfalls , rainforest, beaches, cliffs, and swimming holes. On top of that, Samoa has one of the warmest cultures I’ve ever experienced in my years of traveling around the world .

Octopus Resort in Yasawa Islands Fiji by Hannah Logan

Yasawa Islands (Fiji)

As a country, Fiji is world renowned for its many beautiful islands. But the Yasawa Islands stand out as some of the best thanks to their natural beauty and the fact that they’re so easy to get to from Fiji’s main international airport in Nadi.

Visitors can choose one of the island resorts to relax at for the duration of their trip, or make use of the Yasawa Flyer and island-hop their way through this exotic archipelago.

Whether you’re looking for relaxing tropical places to visit or an adventurous vacation with a bit more of an adrenaline rush, the Yasawa Islands  have you covered.

Best Things To Do in the Yasawa Islands

The Yasawa Islands are known as an island-hopping destination that is especially popular among water sports enthusiasts.

So the best thing to do there is to snorkel or dive the nearby reef systems, which are teeming with marine life. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot some massive Manta Rays, or maybe get to scuba dive with Bull Sharks .

Many Yasawa resorts also offer kayaks and paddleboards for rent or loan. At the end of a busy day, you’ll want to spend some time relaxing on one of the white sand beaches and takomh in a stunning sunset.

Where to Stay in Yasawa

The Yasawa Islands resort I stayed at was Octopus Resorts (on Waya Island), which was fabulous in terms of service, location, and amenities.

Another highly recommended place to stay is Mantaray Island Resort , which is located on a nearby Nanuya Balavu Island. -Hannah Logan of EatSleepBreathTravel.com

Top things to do

Food tour in bangkok.

Bangkok has a range of exciting things for you to experience. A food tour is the best way to take a deep dive into the local culture. Don’t look at the menu or decor. Look at the number of people then you will know you choose the right one. Tom Yum Gung - the Thai masterpiece soup, Gang Keow Wan - the famous Thai green curry, Pad Thai - the national dish of Thailand, and the grilled pork skewers Kao Niew Moo Yang are some authentic Thai food that many are passionate about.

Tuk-tuk riding in Bangkok

Hopping into a tuk-tuk to explore this big and bustling city is a must-do experience in Thailand family vacation packages. The kids will love the adventurous feeling of a tuktuk wriggling around every corner of the city.

See the temples, any city

This is a must when you are in Thailand as Buddhism is practiced by more than 95% of the population. It’s easy to encounter a temple on your way as they are many.

Recall the glory days of the powerful Siam Kingdom

80 kilometers from Bangkok, Thailand’s old capital of Ayutthaya is filled with ancient ruins - heritages of the Siam Kingdom, a golden age of Thai history. Among the recommended relics are Wat Phra Sri Sanphet and Wat Mahathat - a Buddha head emerging from the roots of a tree.

Taste northern Thai food, Chiangmai

Rich with history and native ingredients, Northern culinary specialties satisfy every hungry soul. In a wide range of Chiang Mai food, Khao Soi is the most famous. It is a perfect blend of curry soup and coconut milk to create a thick, rich texture, served with crunchy fried noodles.

Know about Lanna's Culture, Chiangmai

The cultural heaven of Chiang Mai is rooted in the history of the 700-year-old Lanna kingdom. Chiang Mai has its own culture, cuisine, and crafts which are so strong that it is unofficially named Thailand’s “second city.” Meet old and young talented generations in Chiangmai to see how they keep their ancient culture alive.

Meet the elephants

Seeing and walking with the giant is a one-of-a-kind experience in Thailand’s exotic vacation packages. Many ethical elephant sanctuaries in Thailand give the old, sick, tired elephants a new chance to enjoy life. And your visit contributes to this meaningful activity. (Feel free to ask us for the information).

Learn Thai recipes

After tasting all the best bites from north to south, you might ask yourself why Thai food is so delicious. Attend a cooking class where you can learn much more from a local chef than by reading a cookbook. First and foremost, the class will help you to get familiar with Thai basic ingredients such as marinade pastes, curry paste, and Thai chili jam which lead to a wide variety of Thai dishes.

Go to Pai - Best Thailand trip package for couple

This small town is one of Thailand’s brightest hidden gems . Pai bamboo bridge is Instagram-worthy, the cafes have romantic views, and its lovely night market is an experience you simply cannot miss.

Visit Chiang Rai

The sleepy town of Chiang Rai exudes a nostalgic vibe of the olden time. Here is home to the famed White Temple and Golden Triangle where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar all meet.

Go to nature

One of the most extraordinary Thailand sightseeing is going to nature at Khao Sok National Park. This place covers  738 sq. km of hundreds-million-year-jungles, picturesque Cheow Lan Lake, towering limestone cliffs, mangrove forests, and rich wildlife. Add this Thailand’s largest protected park to your itinerary to enrich your luxury vacations in Thailand with breathtaking nature.

Beach gateway on the Andaman Coast

The Andaman Sea offers countless sandy beaches with palm trees and azure water. Here, you find Phuket , Thailand’s largest and most well-known island with great viewpoints, interesting night markets, great cuisine, beach bars, Phuket surfing, and impressive temples. Khao Lak is a more quiet place, suitable for families and travelers who want relaxation. Similan Islands are among the most beautiful diving spots in the world, thanks to its diverse marine life, and Koh Lipe , known as Thailand’s Maldives, is a remote dream for couples.

Island hopping on the Gulf of Thailand

Located on the east coast of Southern Thailand, the Gulf of Thailand is perfect for adventurous souls. Hop from the sexy beaches in Koh Samui to Ang Thong National Marine Park with a collection of uninhabited islands and wildlife, Koh Phangan - a mecca of endless full-moon parties, and Koh Tao - a beautiful island full of surprises. When the sun goes down, take part in active nightlife in the beachside restaurants offering Thai seafood and plenty of bars to chill in the stunning sunset views.

Island hopping is always one of should-not-to-be-missed Thailand tours for singles, couples, and families.

Exoticca Travel Review: A Reliable & Legit Tour Operator?

Exoticca Travel Review: A Reliable & Legit Tour Operator?

Predesigned itineraries and travel packages are life savers for some travelers. Exoticca is one of the number-one travel package choices, but are its services a good investment of your time and money?

exotic travel.com

If your next trip is coming up, you're probably busy making all the plans. Hours and hours later, you've done all the research possible and made several phone calls to create a successful trip.

You and I both know it—behind every successful trip, a traveler works overtime to organize everything effectively.

But worry not! If you want to skip it all, you can ditch the entire planning stage by going with Exoticca Travel. Once you've decided on the customized package you want, all you need to do is pay and enjoy your trip stress-free.

Oh, and it's still essential to remember budget travel tips if you're trying to ensure your trip stays affordable and within your budget!

But does this sound too good to be true? And what about using competitor travel booking agencies, like Luxury Escapes or G-Adventures ?

In my Exoticca Travel review, you'll find everything you need to decide whether this trip-planning company is the way to book your next getaway. I'll go over things like features, areas of improvement, and even other customer reviews.

Find out what you need to know so that you won't regret spending your hard-earned money!

exotic travel.com

What Is Exoticca Travel?

Exoticca is an online travel agency that delivers customizable and premade travel bundles. The packages can be for multiple countries, and it has travel packages for each continent.

Exoticca Travel has been operating since 2013 after Pere Vallespí founded it. The company initially started in Spain. But now Exoticca is branching out to Western countries as well.

As of my article's publishing date, the company also operates in Canada and the United States.

Exoticca is all about taking the planning stress off your shoulders! Whether you’re into exploring new places, chilling in luxury, or even dreaming about the perfect honeymoon, it's got something for everyone.

Exoticca travel experts handle the nitty-gritty—transportation, accommodation, and activities—so all you need to do is kick back and enjoy your vacation!

How Does Exoticca Work?

Exoticca operates as a comprehensive travel platform. As I mentioned, it aims to streamline your vacation planning process and provide a variety of travel experiences.

But how does it do it, and are the deals legit?

Exoticca's low prices and diverse offerings are made possible based on a few factors.

First off, Exoticca travel agency has partnerships with local providers and sub-contractors to actually carry out the tours. That means that the company is able to offer localized vacation packages in diverse locations, whether it's a trek through the Amazon or an island-hopping itinerary through Greece.

Another thing to remember is that Exoticca has been in business for a while. That means that it has done strategic negotiations with suppliers and partners to keep giving customers great prices.

Another factor to its pricing is that Exoticca Travel bundles its services and, therefore, leverages economies of scale. In simpler terms, because it does repeat business and can book larger groups, it can sometimes get better prices than you doing it on your own!

exotic travel.com

How to Use Exoticca Travel?

Using Exoticca's website is quite simple due to its user-friendly interface. The team always aims to make everything seamless for travelers.

Similarly, with a few easy steps, you can easily book your next vacation with Exoticca Travel:

  • When you enter their website, you'll get bombarded with colorful visuals. Scroll through all the travel packages. You can also search by continent or travel style. These options are on the menu bar.
  • After choosing the package that intrigues you, it is time to review the plan. The package mentions all the trip highlights and what things are included in the program.
  • If you want to add or remove something from the itinerary, you can do that. Then, contact an Exoticca travel advisor.
  • If the itinerary seems satisfying, it's time to make your reservation!
  • Exoticca Travel will ask for your details. And you'll need to sign the terms and conditions.
  • Lastly, pay the deposit amount.

Exoticca Travel's customer service will assist you through every step to improve your experience.

Examples of Exoticca Itineraries

So I've been telling you all about the vacations that Exoticca offers. But that's not the same as actually hearing about examples.

I find that sometimes people like specific examples instead of more broad statements. That's why I wanted to lay out some of the trips that seemed interesting to me while I was researching Exoticca:

  • Southeast Asian Odyssey: This is a 19-day/17-night itinerary that takes travelers through Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand for 50% off, meaning customers only pay ~US$3,599 per person currently.
  • Wildlife Parks & Serengeti Safari: Explore Tanzania for 9 days and 7 nights, seeing beautiful landscapes and exciting wildlife for ~$6,499 per person.
  • Land of the Berbers, Madrid & Barcelona: Join a group to see Spain and Morocco over 16 days and 14 nights—you'll only pay $3,499 per person, which is 35% off Exoticca's regular pricing for this trip.

I've included some pricing here, but please be mindful that this changes quickly. I wanted to make you aware of the prices I saw so that you can better gauge the deals that Exoticca offers—even if you don't see the same promotions!

Exoticca Tours Travel Review

Kim Orlando

Can a bargain-priced international trip provide a full-sized experience? SheBuysTravel Founder Kim Orlando had to find out. So she booked an 11-day tour of Ecuador and the Galapagos for just $1,600 – a deal that even included air travel from New York City. So, the burning question: Did Exoticca Tours deliver more or less than she bargained for?

What kind of international trip (that includes airfare) can you really get for $1,600? I had to know.  Exoticca is an online travel agency and tour company based in Spain.  And IMHO, the worst name ever.  I feel like I have to explain it for them when I tell someone about my tour.

A little context: I am not a hop-on-hop-off-bus-tour kind of traveler. I want to explore destinations at my own pace, hit the touristy must-sees but spend most of my time on local flavors and experiences. My husband, on the other hand, needs organization and isn’t keen on surprises so I thought a flexible tour would suit us both.

Why Choose Exotica Travel Tours?

I chose Exoticca Tours to visit Ecuador because:

1) The price included airfare .

2) I knew I would need help navigating the Galapagos .

3) I thought my husband would like Exoticca’s organized itinerary.

4)  TrustPilot had positive customer reviews .

A proper tour seemed to make the most sense to get my husband to go with me. But my logic did not pan out. He bailed a few months before the trip, claiming a need to golf.  So his adventurous, up-for-anything cousin, Tina, and her friend went with me instead.

What Does a $1,600 All Inclusive Trip Include?

I have to admit I was more than a little nervous about the types of travel experiences and accommodations that would be included for only $1,600 (from New York). To boot, Tina is a luxe traveler, so the pressure was on.

I actually used the phone number on the Exoticca site and spoke with a travel agent more than once. I was on hold longer than I would prefer, but when I finally got someone on the phone, I was able to get answers to all of my questions.

I learned that Exoticca offers a variety of moderately priced travel packages from 14 day excursions to South Africa, Morocco and Asia to shorter 8 day trips to Portugal, Peru and other European countries.  The company’s 60-day non-refundable cancellation policy seems fair to me and full payment is not due upfront. However, the refund for partial payments made prior to the 60 days is subjective.  Read that carefully.

General Exoticca Tour to Ecuador Details

We covered a lot of ground in 11 days: Quito, Tena (Amazon), San Cristobal (Galapagos), Guayaquil. All of the hotels included on the Exoticca Tour to Ecuador were at least 3-star (comparable to Holiday Inn Express, with breakfast included daily), and each had the option of upgrading to a 4-star property. I was happy with the accommodations – we didn’t spend much time in our rooms anyway.

Our flight was easy – coach class on American Airlines into Quito, the capital city of Ecuador. Upon arrival, we were met immediately by an Exoticca representative.

Travel on the ground was via comfortable touring buses . There is no bathroom on the bus, but we made plenty of stops. The rest stops became part of the adventure. Our guide introduced us to local snacks (including grubs – more on that later!) and drinks. The bathrooms were always clean. Some required a tip or a fee of 25-50 cents.

Transportation on Our Exoticca Ecuador Tour

Another reason I am hesitant about organized tours is because the ground transportation is via coach bus. I always thought of this as being herded like cattle and assumed I would not like this part of this tour. It turns out that I was happy to check out the interesting landscapes along the way and not have to worry about driving.

One of the rest stops included the option of eating grubs – grilled or raw – to improve our respiratory health. I somehow choked down a grilled grub and have a video to prove it!

Extra Costs on the Exoticca Ecuador/Galapagos Tour

There are opportunities to upgrade by adding a variety of excursions to the trip, including escorted tours (read about the tours that are included and optional in this post), and staying in a 4 star hotel. Breakfast was included everyday but not all meals were included.

And then there are other required charges not included in the Exoticca Tour price that I would like to have known upfront.

Mandatory Additional Fees

Those fees are:

  • Galapagos Entry/Parks Fee of $100 . Everyone who visits the Galapagos is required to pay the national park entry fee. The park entry fee has to be paid in cash.
  • Tips for our guides. While tips technically are voluntary, I included them under “mandatory extra costs” because this is how tour guides make their living and a good tour guide is the key to a good tour. We spent $150 each on tips.

My Final Cost: $2569

  • Exoticca trip…$1599
  • 3 Exoticca excursions….$295
  • Personal day trip….$175
  • Tips…..$150
  • Additional food/drinks…..$250
  • Galapagos parks fee….$100
  • Covid testing……$150 (no longer required)

Exoticca Tour to Ecuador: What I Would Improve

Two of the Exoticca city tour guides were sub-par. The one in Guayaquil didn’t have the patience for our older travelers. The guide in the Galapagos was difficult to reach when we needed her help. Aside from that, the trip went smoothly and we saw a lot during the time we were there.

The one thing that could use improvement is more advance communication. For example, there is plenty of free time built into the tour and Exoticca offers several optional tours as add-ons.

I would like for extra excursions and tours to be presented in advance of the trip – even if only the day before – so I have time to think about them. At the time of my booking, there was only one excursion available. Others had been added, but I never received an alert.

When we first arrived, the Exoticca reps hosted a meeting to explain the schedule and the COVID requirements. They also went over the many excursion options. But we had to book on the spot. I was happy to have more options, but it would have made planning easier if that information had been made available prior to arrival. I like to know what things will cost upfront, so the surprise extras felt annoying.

Additionally, we found out after we arrived in Ecuador that we would need to pay the Galapagos fees in cash (no credit cards accepted). We all scrambled to find an ATM or bank the day before we left for the island.

If you are considering bringing kids, you know them best. If you think they will be OK on a bus for 4-5 hours at a stretch, then bring them. Wifi is available, but it is spotty. We had one 12-year-old on the trip and he seemed happy to hang with his mom on the bus. He opted out of some of the activities but enjoyed others. Everyone in the group enjoyed having him. My adult kids all want to do this trip, despite the long bus rides.

Would I do another tip with Exoticca? You bet. Ecuador with Exoticca was a great trip with great people. It was well worth the $1,600 I paid to have all of my flights, taxes, covid tests, local questions, breakfast and lodging taken care of. Tina agreed.

Even though I think there is room for improvement, I liked the value so much that I have applied to sell Exoticca trips on SheBuysTravel so stay tuned!

I am speaking from my personal experience, so if you find what I am writing here offensive in any way, my apologies to you in advance. Nevertheless, I must be honest with you, and I do this only after having shown forth a LOT of patience with this company, which has been given more than adequate time to respond to us and make things right. But our patience has grown thin. This should not, needless to say, come as a surprise to them when they read this.

My wife and I trusted Exoticca with our time, money, and high hopes for a trip to Morocco in late May 2022. The gentleman who booked this trip for us was friendly and a delight to work with; we have no qualms with him. However, when we received the airline reservations approximately two months in advance of the trip, they booked us on Air Canada for what was apparently the least expensive ticketing. We were to depart from Las Vegas and travel through Montreal and Lisbon en route to Casablanca.

I let Exoticca know immediately that the layover in Lisbon was very short, in fact, too short to make the connecting flight to Casablanca. After a very, very long hold time, and having to endure the repetitively annoying music in the meantime while waiting for a representative, I emphasized my concern that we would not be able to make the connecting flight if the flight from Montreal was even a little late. The rep tried to assure me that there would be no problems. I was, of course, skeptical of his “reassurance,” having heard such things before. But he told me that they would get it changed and email me with the new itinerary. When the email came without either an itinerary change or an explanation, I called again and waited on another long hold, only to explain my concern once more to another rep, who tried to assure me that we’d be OK in making the connection in Lisbon. I couldn’t help but get the distinct feeling as she spoke that I was getting an earful of hot air and fluff, despite sounding sincere and genuine. She likewise told me that we would hear back very shortly with an adjusted itinerary, but the email once again came back unchanged, just as if my concern had been completely disregarded and my time wasted.

I attempted other calls to Exoticca, but each time the hold time seemed to get longer and longer. I gave up trying to contact them and just went with the itinerary they had provided. We left Las Vegas on time and waited for eight hours at the airport in Montreal. The flight from Montreal was delayed, causing us to run like crazy to the departure gate for Casablanca, only to be firmly told that the gate had closed and we would not be permitted to board. Our greatest fear was realized. Fortunately, for the most part, the airline agents in Lisbon tried to be helpful. Nevertheless, we were then redirected from counter to counter to counter by airline and airport reps, who weren’t able to do much for us. But after several hours, we finally managed to book a flight on a different airline.

As expected, our bags were not present upon our arrival in Casablanca. The lady at the desk that handled such situations had apparently become tired of dealing with angry Western visitors and would not let us make a claim. In desperation, we went to the Swissport office, where the gentleman tried his best to assist us. But we were not able to file an official claim. Our tour guide patiently waited for us and tried to assist us the best he could, but we left the airport without our luggage and didn’t have it the entire 11 days of the trip, forcing us to wash clothes every night. Repeated efforts to get our bags resulted in continual disappointment. To make matters worse, we learned from fellow trip members that we could have been booked directly from Montreal to Casablanca without that unnecessary and unfortunate layover in Lisbon. We were the only trip members to have to change flights there. Imagine that!

Despite this major setback, we did our best to enjoy our time in the country. We had a great tour group and guide, and were able to see many fun and interesting sites. So, why am I writing all this if we managed to have a decent time? Well, it certainly is not to thank Exoticca, who contracted with a decent in-country travel group. Days after our return, we were contacted by the Exoticca Customer Car Team. I responded to their email by stating that I was displeased with some aspects of the trip and asked to be contacted by the team. “Julie” replied that they were “so sorry to hear that some aspects of this tour did not meet” our expectations. After a couple of failed attempts to reach me while I was at work, I told her by email that I’d make myself available at a certain time that would be convenient for both of us. She apparently ignored my emails and attempted to call again two weeks later, again thanking me for my initial review and noting that she was still not able to reach me successfully. She even asked me to let her know if I’d like for her to contact me either by phone or email, as she said she’d be very grateful for further feedback, which, as she stated, would be “a very useful tool to assist in improving our service and products in the future.”

I never heard from her again. Another rep, “Ivan,” called me a month later and informed me that Julie had been taken off my case “for personal reasons,” which I now believe was BS – the case was simply passed on to him because Exoticca didn’t know how to (or simply didn’t want to) deal with my issue. I was never mean, threatening, or vulgar in any of my interactions, either by phone or email. “Ivan” and I seemed to have a helpful conversation, wherein I was able to explain my situation. We agreed that he would call me back one week later at a designated time and that he would be able to make things right. Well over a month later, that call still has not come.

It’s apparent to me that Exoticca, while providing a great menu of very desirable-looking tours, is horribly unresponsive and not really interested in assisting travelers if there’s an issue of any kind. Be forewarned… and a word to the wise: They book the trip and hope like hell the contracted company in country does its job, because they certainly aren’t doing theirs, and they’re not going to help you if things go south! They don’t want to hear any complaints about their service (or lack thereof)… nothing negative. They will simply stop communicating with you if that’s the case. I gave them opportunity after opportunity to redeem themselves.

I wanted so much to disregard all the negative reviews I had read online before I signed up for this trip. Nevertheless, I made the fateful decision to disregard those reviews and give Exoticca a chance to prove those reviews were simply untrue and biased. At this point, I can no longer do that and feel that I must make my feelings very clear. The sad part in all of this is that I had wanted so badly to give them another chance and take advantage of other seemingly fun deals, but heaven help us if something were to go wrong… they wouldn’t be there to care in the least. Trying to contact them by phone has also been a nightmare, with very long wait times and reps that will tell you what you want to hear, but will not follow through with what they promise. I have always been better off booking with reputable companies like Gate 1 Travel, where I’ve never gotten any of this. The various tours Exoticca offers are quite tempting, and they’ll likely be good once you’re in country; however, just pray nothing goes wrong!

Hi, I booked my trip to Portugal with Exoticca about a month ago. At time of booking, I was so happy that I found this trip package, but now I’m beginning to wonder if this company is legit. They are changing my flight arrangements and demanding extra fee and for remaining balance to be paid immediately without any confirmation that my flight from JFK will be direct flight (which they promised, but now demanding extra $340) I’m trying to talk to someone, but reaching the customer service on call is impossible. Can you tell my how they booked your flight. When did you get flight information?? Is it safe to trust them?

I have had a terrible experience with Exoticca and would never use them.

I was thinking about the same trip. We’re the hotels OK, and was the Galapagos portion enough time to see at least some of the sites.

What were the 3 optional Exoticca excursions you did? I can’t find any details about them on this webpage. And also the personal day trip. We are doing a similar trip in September and are trying to determine if any of the optional Exoticca excursions are worth it. Were they in general?

I’m not one to tell anybody how to spend their money but I would advise you not to spend any with Exoticca. The extra C is not for comfort, consideration or care.

When we first engaged with them in July of 2021 we were assured that we’d be able to secure whatever flights we wanted from our various locations. We were a group of six girls that wanted to avoid an extra flight if possible to fly to South Africa. M1 told us that we’d have all the options in the world for us and was very reassuring as we lay down 60% of our total fee for our tour to be taken in May of 2022.

As late as January 2022 another employee M2 assured me “you cannot choose airline, you however can make a request to fly on a specific airline and the dedicated team can check if the request can be accommodated.” “Yes, it would be possible to book a return flight to a different destination (additional charges may apply) We would need to have the confirmed new location 60 days prior to departure.” And “No direct flights expected on your booking. As mentioned on your trip summary page 7 it is expected no more than 2 stopovers.” NONE of that was true.

It was now March 2022 and time to make full payment and we discover flights have already been booked without consultation. We again asked if we’re going to be able to make changes. Crickets no one replied, numerous emails went unanswered we were stuck with the flights assigned. All flights originated in Atlanta so that required me buying an extra flight. As a result I took 3 planes traveling over 33 hours to get to South Africa with five stops. The last flight was with random air carrier called Asky that made two stops before we landed in Johannesburg, South Africa at 1:30AM in the morning. (Our Exoticca airport pickup was also a no show. We were at least reimbursed for our cabs to hotel.)

The flights home were even worse, it took over 38 hours to get back to my home in Florida. There was a random stop in Dublin, Ireland for refueling and change of crew that left out of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. No new passengers got on the flight in Ireland, still not sure why we needed to change flight crew. We should have gained time coming home this detour was absurd.

Talking to other Exoticca customers whilst on the trip we learned we were not alone, they shared similar stories and travel challenges in their dealings with them too. I do not recommend you use Exoticca you can get the same on the ground experience we did by booking it on your own or at least looking at other companies with similar products. GOOGLE those companies too, wish we’d done the same with Exoticca.

It’s so disappointing to hear that Exoticca did not deliver for you. I really enjoyed my trip and my flights were fine. The whole reason I booked a tour is so that I would not have to make all of the arrangements. Good info for me as a new tour leader (Bhutan in October) – transparency and clear communication is key. Oh and own it when you make a mistake.

Hi, I’m having similar experience with my flight arrangement. At the time of booking, and happily paying 60% deposit, they promised me that my flight will be direct flight with Delta from JFK to Lisbon. Now about a month later, they emailed me some confusing flight options to choose from which required me to spend the entire day hopping planes all over Europe which I refuse to do. They are asking extra $340 to make my flight direct, but now I’m beginning to think that they won’t even deliver that promise with me paying that extra cost because they’re saying they can’t promise it will secure that flight. Now I’m digging through all these reviews, and wonder if I should let go my 60% deposit and save other 40% and extra $340. What do you think?……. I told them what they are doing is total “bait and switch” tactic but they are saying they’ll keep my 60% deposit if I cancel booking.

They are fine if you don’t have any problems. The 2nd leg of my return flight (booked thru Exoticca) was cancelled and their response to my request for assistance was “it’s not our responsibility.” The flight was booked on Royal Jordanian but American was the airline for the 2nd leg. American says talk to Royal Jordanian, Royal Jordanian says contract your travel agent and Exoticca refuses to help at all.

The 10 Best Dev Patel Movies, Ranked

The Oscar-nominated actor has proven to be one of the most talented of his generation, and his directorial debut 'Monkey Man' is proof.

Since he got his start in the three-time BAFTA winner teen series Skins and landed the lead part in the blockbuster Slumdog Millionaire , which marked his breakthrough performance, Dev Patel has proven to be extremely talented in the acting department and fully cemented himself as one of his generation's best stars — his Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Academy Awards proves it.

With the release of Patel's anticipated and seemingly successful directorial debut, Monkey Man , audiences will likely find themselves rooting for the talented star's success in the industry as both a filmmaker and actor. This may get them wondering which other films are worth checking out in his impressive body of work. From lesser-known, heartwarming dramas like The Road Within to A24 fantasy films, such as The Green Knight , these are the best Dev Patel movies to date .

10 'The Road Within' (2014)

Director: gren wells.

Patel plays a role in Gren Wells 's heartwarming adventure comedy-drama, which stars Umbrella Academy 's Robert Sheehan as Vincent, a young man with Tourette's Syndrome who embarks on a life-changing road trip with his recently-deceased mother's ashes alongside Patel's Alex and an anorexic young woman named Marie, played by Zoë Kravitz .

Although it was released to divisive opinions (with some critics even describing it as a cliché), The Road Within 's central performances — including Patel's as someone who struggles with OCD — are undoubtedly great and possibly its strongest aspect . Considering the themes it tackles, the movie also sends powerful messages about mental health that further elevate it. Audiences who are on the lookout for well-thought-out character studies will likely enjoy Wells's film.

Watch on Amazon Prime

9 'The Man Who Knew Infinity' (2015)

Director: matthew brown.

Another worthwhile Patel film is Matthew Brown's drama The Man Who Knew Infinity , inspired by the real-life story of Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan , and based on the 1991 book of the same name by Robert Kanigel . The movie focuses on the academic career of the pioneer mathematician, shedding light on his friendship with his mentor, Professor G.H. Hardy .

Patel is astounding in this biopic , as is Jeremy Irons as Prof. Hardy. Despite being a bit dull and failing to live to its full potential, Brown's film still makes for a moving and entertaining watch that handles themes of war and race while also featuring accurate mathematics and, according to many, an authentic portrayal of mathematicians. With that being said, The Man Who Knew Infinity is the right pick for biopic and math enthusiasts.

8 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' (2011)

Director: john madden.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is the first installment in the duology and arguably the superior one out of the two. Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Dame Judi Dench , Dame Maggie Smith , and Bill Nighy , the story follows British retirees who travel to India to a newly restored hotel, only to realize that it is way less luxurious than advertised. Nonetheless, thanks to its people and surroundings, Marigold Hotel slowly begins to charm its guests in unexpected ways.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is not flawless or groundbreaking. Still, John Madden 's wholesome comedy-drama makes for an engaging, visually striking watch particularly fit for those who love traveling and learning about new cultures. Patel wonderfully steps into the shoes of the young and ambitious Sonny , who plays the crucial role of running the hotel. In an interview with Digital Spy , he revealed that he had to "fight for the role" since the character was envisaged as a "middle-aged, washed-up, overweight Indian guy."

7 'Hotel Mumbai' (2018)

Director: anthony maras.

Speaking of hotels, the action thriller Hotel Mumbai is, too, essential when it comes to the best Dev Patel films . The gripping feature tells the true story of the Taj Hotel terrorist attack in Mumbai, which led the staff to risk their lives to keep everyone safe. In the meantime, the guests — including a couple played by Armie Hammer and Nazanin Boniadi — desperately attempt to protect themselves and their families.

Anthony Maras ' Indian-Australian co-production (and directorial debut) is certainly a must-watch dramatization of real-life events — even if at the risk of being described as "exploitative" — with Patel's astounding efforts as stoic, heroic Sikh waiter elevating it to higher grounds . Hotel Mumbai may not be perfect filmmaking, but it is a pretty decent movie based on a shocking real-life story .

6 'The Personal History of David Copperfield' (2019)

Director: armando iannucci.

Based on the 1850 the semi-autobiographical Charles Dickens masterpiece, David Copperfield , The Personal History of David Copperfield offers viewers a fresh, more modern take on the classic tale of a young orphan, played by Patel in a charismatic period piece role , who can come on top of every obstacle. The film chronicles David's life from his childhood to the discovery of his gifts as a storyteller.

Armando Iannucci 's wonderful movie is well cast and undeniably fun, making for a charming, and at times even hilarious twist on the classic tale. It's nearly impossible not to feel connected with Patel's big-screen counterpart , as he passionately brings the character to life and quickly cements it as one of the most memorable in his career so far.

The Personal History of David Copperfield

5 'slumdog millionaire' (2008), director: danny boyle.

Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire became a fan-favorite in Patel's filmography, mostly given that it was his breakthrough role . The story focuses on 18-year-old Jamal Malik, an Indian Muslim from the Juhu slum of Mumbai, who becomes a contestant on the show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati?' to incredible results. However, the pieces are glued together when he is questioned under suspicion of cheating and recounts the incidents in his life.

While, according to some, a tad controversial in India for fueling Western stereotypes about poverty in the country, Slumdog Millionaire is a huge landmark in Dev Patel's body of work . Even if some audience members share this opinion, others can't help but praise its engaging premise and striking visuals, describing it as an "emotionally resonant" and "powerful" picture, as seen on Rotten Tomatoes .

4 'Lion' (2016)

Director: garth davis.

Based on the 2013 non-fiction book A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley , this underrated biographical drama by Garth Davis tells the incredible and uplifting story of a five-year-old Indian boy adopted by an Australian couple after getting lost hundreds of kilometers from home. Twenty years later, Saroo Brierley sets out on a self-discovery journey to India in order to find his lost family, including his mother and daughter.

Patel is fantastic in this 2016 movie now regarded as one of his best acting efforts to date . Touching and inspiring are two words to describe its absorbing narrative. At the celebrated Academy Awards, Lion received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Patel's first nod), Best Supporting Actress for Nicole Kidman , and Best Adapted Screenplay.

3 'The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar' (2023)

Director: wes anderson.

It was just last year that Wes Anderson released his fantasy short film, once again astonishing viewers with the stunning, meticulously shot cinematography. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar chronicles different stories. One of them — the "main" one — follows Benedict Cumberbatch 's Henry Sugar, who can see through objects and predict the future thanks to a magical book he stole.

Faithfully adapted from Roald Dah l's long short story, the Academy Award winner The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, which took home Best Live Action Short Film, is indeed wonderful. It awes audiences with its beautiful visuals and ensemble cast, two distinctive traits of Anderson's movies. Patel shines in his supporting role as Dr. Chatterjee , the author of the sacred book Henry discovers.

2 'Monkey Man' (2024)

Director: dev patel.

Released to incredible reviews so far, Monkey Man is one of 2024's most anticipated (no wonder, considering it is Patel's directorial debut). This must-see revenge film follows a young man viewers are introduced to as Kid, who is subjected to wearing a gorilla mask and being beaten for cash. After arduous years enduring mistreatment and suppressing his range, Kid unleashes a campaign of vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother.

Patel's directorial effort is just as extraordinary as his acting performance in this powerful movie that meditates on corruption and discrimination in India. Loosely inspired by the adventures of Hanuman, Monkey Man is a gripping, thought-provoking action flick that will not disappoint readers who like the genre. Combined with its action-packed scenes, the film's sociopolitical commentary makes it a memorable watch in the talented star's body of work.

1 'The Green Knight' (2021)

Director: david lowery.

Adapted from the 14th-century poem Sir Gaiwan and the Green Knight , David Lowery's 2021 film stars Patel in one of his most remarakble lead characters and tells the story of King Arthur's headstrong nephew, illustrating his daring quest to confront the eponymous, gigantic, emerald-skinned Green Knight.

Given its slow pace and slightly confusing premise, this A24 movie is somewhat of a divisive feature in Patel's filmography. Still, it makes for the perfect pick for medieval fantasy enthusiasts, particularly those who enjoy Arthurian legends. Patel's enigmatic lead performance is certainly The Green Knight 's strongest aspect . Still, Lowery's underrated movie benefits from great direction and attention to detail, including well-thought-out color symbolism , stunning cinematography, and a refreshing take on the tale.

'eXotic Visit' Spyware Campaign Targets Android Users in India and Pakistan

eXotic Visit Malware

An active Android malware campaign dubbed eXotic Visit has been primarily targeting users in South Asia, particularly those in India and Pakistan, with malware distributed via dedicated websites and Google Play Store.

Slovak cybersecurity firm said the activity, ongoing since November 2021, is not linked to any known threat actor or group. It's tracking the group behind the operation under the name Virtual Invaders .

"Downloaded apps provide legitimate functionality, but also include code from the open-source Android XploitSPY RAT ," ESET security researcher Lukáš Štefanko said in a technical report released today.

The campaign is said to be highly targeted in nature, with the apps available on Google Play having negligible number of installs ranging from zero to 45. The apps have since been taken down.

Cybersecurity

The fake-but-functional apps primarily masquerade as messaging services like Alpha Chat, ChitChat, Defcom, Dink Messenger, Signal Lite, TalkU, WeTalk, Wicker Messenger, and Zaangi Chat. Approximately 380 victims are said to have downloaded the apps and created accounts to use them for messaging purposes.

Also employed as part of eXotic Visit are apps such as Sim Info and Telco DB, both of which claim to provide details about SIM owners simply by entering a Pakistan-based phone number. Other applications pass off as a food ordering service in Pakistan as well as a legitimate Indian hospital called Specialist Hospital (now rebranded as Trilife Hospital).

eXotic Visit Malware

XploitSPY, uploaded to GitHub as early as April 2020 by a user named RaoMK , is associated with an Indian cyber security solutions company called XploitWizer. It has also been described as a fork of another open-source Android trojan called L3MON , which, in turn, draws inspiration from AhMyth .

It comes with a wide gamut of features that allows it to gather sensitive data from infected devices, such as GPS locations, microphone recordings, contacts, SMS messages, call logs, and clipboard content; extract notification details from apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Gmail; download and upload files; view installed apps; and queue commands.

On top of that, the malicious apps are designed to take pictures and enumerate files in several directories related to screenshots, WhatApp, WhatsApp Business, Telegram, and an unofficial WhatsApp mod known as GBWhatsApp.

Cybersecurity

"Throughout the years, these threat actors have customized their malicious code by adding obfuscation, emulator detection, hiding of [command-and-control] addresses, and use of a native library," Štefanko said.

The main purpose of the native library ("defcome-lib.so") is to keep the C2 server information encoded and hidden from static analysis tools. If an emulator is detected, the app makes use of a fake C2 server to evade detection.

Some of the apps have been propagated through websites specifically created for this purpose ("chitchat.ngrok[.]io") that provide a link to an Android package file ("ChitChat.apk") hosted on GitHub. It's presently not clear how victims are directed to these apps.

"Distribution started on dedicated websites and then even moved to the official Google Play store," Štefanko concluded. "The purpose of the campaign is espionage and probably is targeting victims in Pakistan and India."

How to get past the Taken Anomaly section of The Whisper Exotic quest

Image of Anthony Yates

The Whisper Exotic Quest is full of brutal jumping sections and deceptive puzzles. The oppressive time limit makes the situation even worse, so let me show you how to get past the Taken Anomaly section of the Whisper Exotic Quest.

How to escape the Taken Anomaly room

If you’ve been staring at the room in the picture above for a while, don’t worry; I did the same. This room is enormous, and there’s no obvious way out. Fortunately, the solution is far simpler than you think.

How to get past the Taken Anomaly section of The Whisper Exotic quest

Stand in the doorway where you came in, and the exit is immediately beneath you through a small hole in the wall (pictured above).  It’s as easy as that, and the solution is hidden in plain sight the entire time.

Is there anything else in the Taken Anomaly Room?

At first, I thought this room was a trick to waste time on a mission with a strict time limit, but there’s a little more to it.

If you jump down the Chasm in the middle, there’s a shadowed area where hordes of Thralls constantly spawn. There’s likely an Oracle Spawn down here, but I can’t say for sure as they are time-gated.

On the topic of Oracles, there’s another that’s also time-gated, hidden by a complex jump puzzle.

How to get past the Taken Anomaly section of The Whisper Exotic quest

You can start the puzzle from here (pictured above) and slowly traverse the grassy ledges around the area.

How to get past the Taken Anomaly section of The Whisper Exotic quest

The final ledge reveals a hidden room. I can’t say that this is an Oracle for sure, but as my reticule goes red and triggers my aim assist, It’s a fair bet that one will appear here in the following weeks.  The Whisper is a fantastic Exotic Quest and probably my favorite one in Destiny 2. There’s a nasty boss at the end of the quest , but he’s much easier if you reach him with plenty of time to spare.

eXotic Visit campaign: Tracing the footprints of Virtual Invaders

ESET researchers uncovered the eXotic Visit espionage campaign that targets users mainly in India and Pakistan with seemingly innocuous apps

eXotic Visit campaign: Tracing the footprints of Virtual Invaders

ESET researchers have discovered an active espionage campaign targeting Android users with apps primarily posing as messaging services. While these apps offer functional services as bait, they are bundled with open-source XploitSPY malware. We have named this campaign eXotic Visit and have tracked its activities from November 2021 through to the end of 2023. The targeted campaign has been distributing malicious Android apps through dedicated websites and, for some time, through the Google Play store as well. Because of the targeted nature of the campaign, the apps available on Google Play had a low number of installs; all of them have been removed from the store. The eXotic Visit campaign appears to primarily target a select group of Android users in Pakistan and India. There is no indication that this campaign is linked to any known group; however, we are tracking the threat actors behind it under the moniker Virtual Invaders.

Key points of the report: This active and targeted Android espionage campaign, which we have named eXotic Visit, started in late 2021 and mainly impersonates messaging apps that are distributed through dedicated websites and Google Play. Overall, at the time of writing, around 380 victims have downloaded the apps from both sources and created accounts to use their messaging functionality. Because of the targeted nature of the campaign, the number of installs of each app from Google Play is relatively low – between zero and 45. Downloaded apps provide legitimate functionality, but also include code from the open-source Android RAT XploitSPY. We have linked the samples through their use of the same C&C, unique and custom malicious code updates, and the same C&C admin panel. Throughout the years, these threat actors have customized their malicious code by adding obfuscation, emulator detection, hiding of C&C addresses, and use of a native library. The region of interest seems to be South Asia; in particular, victims in Pakistan and India have been targeted. Currently, ESET Research does not have enough evidence to attribute this activity to any known threat group; we track the group internally as Virtual Invaders.

Apps that contain XploitSPY can extract contact lists and files, get the device’s GPS location and the names of files listed in specific directories related to the camera, downloads, and various messaging apps such as Telegram and WhatsApp. If certain filenames are identified as being of interest, they can subsequently be extracted from these directories via an additional command from the command and control (C&C) server. Interestingly, the implementation of the chat functionality integrated with XploitSPY is unique; we strongly believe that this chat function was developed by the Virtual Invaders group.

The malware also uses a native library, which is often used in Android app development for improving performance and accessing system features. However, in this case, the library is used to hide sensitive information, like the addresses of the C&C servers, making it harder for security tools to analyze the app.

The apps described in the sections below were taken down from Google Play; moreover, as a Google App Defense Alliance partner, ESET identified ten additional apps that contain code that is based on XploitSPY and shared its findings with Google. Following our alert, the apps were removed from the store. Each of the apps described below had a low number of installs, suggesting a targeted approach rather than a broad strategy. The Timeline of eXotic Visit apps section below describes the “fake”, albeit functional, apps we have identified as part of this campaign, whereas the Technical analysis section focuses on the details of the XploitSPY code, present in various incarnations across those apps.

Timeline of eXotic Visit apps

Starting chronologically, on January 12 th , 2022, MalwareHunterTeam shared a tweet with a hash and a link to a website that distributes an app named WeTalk, which impersonates the popular Chinese WeChat application. The website provided a link to a GitHub project to download a malicious Android app. Based on the date available on GitHub, the wetalk.apk app was uploaded in December 2021.

At that time, there were five apps available, using the names ChitChat.apk , LearnSindhi.apk , SafeChat.apk , wechat.apk , and wetalk.apk . The ChitChat app had been available on GitHub since November 2021, distributed using a dedicated website ( chitchat.ngrok[.]io ; see Figure 1) as well as the malicious WeTalk app mentioned earlier. Both use the same C&C address with the admin panel login interface shown in Figure 2.

Figure 1. Distribution website of the ChitChat app

Besides the already mentioned malicious apps that are part of the campaign, we were able to identify additional apps were uploaded to Google Play, and others where an attempt was made to upload, but we're unable to tell whether the uploads were successful. Although we identified them based on the same detection names, we were not able to obtain the samples to analyze them and verify whether they are part of the same campaign. In any case, they contain malicious code that is based on XploitSPY. Table 1 list XploitSPY apps that were available on Google Play. Each of these apps had a low number of installs. A substantial number of the apps that were available on Google Play had zero installs, with some yielding under 10 installs. The highest install count from the Play Store came in at under 45.

Table 1. More XploitSPY-containing apps that were available on Google Play

Table 2 lists the malicious apps that developers tried to upload on Google Play; however, we have no information about whether or not they became available on Google Play.

Table 2. XploitSPY-containing apps that were uploaded on Google Play

ESET is a member of the App Defense Alliance and an active partner in the malware mitigation program, which aims to quickly find Potentially Harmful Applications (PHAs) and stop them before they ever make it onto Google Play.

As a Google App Defense Alliance partner, ESET identified all mentioned apps as malicious and shared its findings with Google, who subsequently unpublished them. All the apps identified in the report that were on Google Play are no longer available on the Play store.

Victimology

Our research indicates that malicious apps developed by eXotic Visit were distributed through Google Play and dedicated websites, and four of those apps mostly targeted users in Pakistan and India. We detected one of those four apps, Sim Info, on an Android device in Ukraine, but we don’t think Ukraine is being targeted specifically, as the app was available on Google Play for anyone to download. Based on our data, each of the malicious apps available on Google Play was downloaded tens of times; however, we don’t have any visibility into the download details.

We identified potential targets for four of these apps: Sim Info, Telco DB ( com.infinitetechnology.telcodb ), Shah jee Foods, and Specialist Hospital.

The Sim Info and Telco DB apps provide users the functionality to search for SIM owner information for any Pakistani mobile number, using the online service dbcenteruk.com ; see Figure 9.

Whisper of the Worm in Destiny 2

“ The Whisper ,” one of the best missions in Destiny history, is finally back in Destiny 2 as part of Into the Light after a multi-year hiatus. It’s brought with it a fully craftable version of the Whisper of the Worm Exotic sniper rifle.

In this Destiny 2 guide, we’ll walk you through how to complete “The Whisper” and nab the pattern for Whisper of the Worm. Whether this is your first time venturing into “The Whisper” or it’s just been too damn long for you to remember which path you’re supposed to take, we’ve got you covered.

How to start ‘The Whisper’ in Destiny 2

A map of the Moon in Destiny 2, showing the location of Eris Morn

Having “The Whisper” back is great. But what’s even better is how Bungie has tweaked how you actually start the quest. Gone are the days of chasing Public Events on Io (a planet that’s sadly still missing from the game). Now you just need to talk to Eris to kick things off.

Jet over to the Moon and chat with her. She’ll give you the “ Whispers of the Past ” quest. From there, all you need to do is open up the “Into the Light” menu on the Director and select “The Whisper.”

Completing the Exotic mission earns you the pattern for Whisper of the Worm.

‘The Whisper’ walkthrough in Destiny 2

A Guardian runs forward on the path in The Whisper mission in Destiny 2

When you load up “The Whisper,” you’ll find yourself at the end of the old Grove of Ulan-Tan Lost Sector . You’ll quickly notice you have a 40-minute timer when you start (20 minutes if you’re on the Legend mode). When that timer is up, you and your fireteam will get the boot back to orbit and you’ll need to start again.

Move forward and look straight ahead. You’ll see a little Vex cube in the distance. Shoot it to create some platforms. Follow the path to a Taken Blight. Destroy it and then drop down the hole.

Follow the path forward, crouching to get through the smaller areas. Eventually, you’ll find yourself in a massive room. Stick to the right side and the red lights. Jump down the wall and watch out for the pinball levers ejecting to your right. Follow the red lights across the room’s platforms until you hit the center block.

A Guardian jumps around the corner in The Whisper mission

From here, there isn’t a clear exit. Walk forward, past the glowing cracks and toward the room’s left wall — which should be directly in front of you when you land. You’ll need to jump around the corner here, to your right.

Duck and start making your way through the crevice, waiting for the blocks to move back into the wall. Be patient here and don’t rush, keeping in mind that — for internet reasons — the bumpers might move differently for you than for your other fireteam members. Take each block one at a time until you reach the other side.

After the blocks, look left and jump across the canyon to the cliff face with the spheres on it. Follow the path right until you reach a small, square elevator. Jump on and ride the square up to the next platform, which should be red and right in front of you. Run forward along the wall and turn immediately left into the white hallway.

Walk through the diamond-shaped room and jump through the diamond hole. Jump onto the ledges in the long room ahead of you, waiting for their push explosion to erupt before moving forward. Take out the Taken Vandals as you wait. Jump across the room, avoiding the explosions until you reach the wall with the white light. The door will open and shut, so time your jump into the room.

Xol will begin speaking to you about drifting as you enter the portal room. Jump to your right and hug the wall. Ignore all the portals until you reach the very end of the right wall. Take the final top portal and drop into the room below.

A map showing The Whisper shortcut in Destiny 2

The Green Room as it’s called can be very complex if you try to go the long way, but there’s a hidden shortcut here that can shave multiple minutes off your clear time. Turn to your right and crouch into the rubble. You’ll find a crack here, between the rocks. Climb in and look for an opening in the wall (not one of the pits in the ground) that leads to a big cylinder.

Jump onto the cylinder’s edge and walk along the side. You’ll reach what looks like a diving board. Look far out and down to see the opening in front of you. It’s a long jump, so be sure to save your jump power until you’re close to the bottom. Once you safely land, move forward and crouch under the high ceiling.

How to defeat Tulgorh, Aspect of Agony, in Destiny 2

The Guardian takes on some wizards and an ogre in Destiny 2

This is where the combat begins. You’ll need to push through multiple rooms and fully clear them all to proceed.

Once you reach the boss arena, clear the area, then shoot the Vex cubes to summon the mini-bosses. Kill them to summon the real boss, a big Taken Ogre: Tulgorh, Aspect of Agony . Kill the Wizards to lower the boss’ shield, then take it down for good.

Once all four bosses are dead, walk to the chest that spawns on the edge and you’ll receive the Whisper of the Worm exotic sniper rifle pattern .

Head back to Eris to get the first step in the weekly “ Whispers of the Taken ” quest, which you’ll need to do to upgrade your Whisper of the Worm.
