The Slackers

For 32 years, the NYC-based and critically acclaimed Slackers have been touring the world with their blend of Ska, Reggae, and Soul.

Since 1991, the Slackers have released fifteen albums and countless singles, while their 1000s of live performances feed their fans with energetic sets of ecstatic music.

The Slackers have been called ‘the Sound of New York’ by the New York Times. They were described by Brooklyn Vegan as a “clean mix of Ska, Reggae, and Soul that gets dirtied up by Vic Ruggiero’s tough New York accent.’

In April 2022, The Slackers released a new album, “Dont Let The Sunlight Fool Ya” (Pirates Press) which quickly shot to the top of the US Billboard charts. The first time that a Slackers’ album has charted! Ironically after 30 years as a band, they qualified as a Billboard ‘new artist!’ The Washington Post noted that the Slackers “remain at the top of their game.”

The chart topping sales of “Dont Let The Sunlight Fool Ya” capped a 2 year comeback of the Slackers. When Covid stopped live shows in 2020, the Slackers pivoted to livestreams and made 5 full band concerts that were broadcast internationally to an audience of thousands. After the streams, they stayed in the studio and recorded the tunes that became ‘Dont Let the Sunlight Fool Ya.’

Returning to live gigging in the 2nd half of 2021 through to the end of 2022, they have managed to make up all the shows that were postponed from 2020. This included a triumphant European club date tour in October 2022 that included 9 sellout shows including London’s Underworld.

In 2023, the Slackers are booking 90 concerts in the USA, Canada, Europe, and Latin America. They have announced appearances at festivals such as Punk Rock Bowling, Zwaarte Kross, Rebellion, Punk Rock Holiday with many more to come.

There are several side projects of The Slackers, including David Hillyard & The Rocksteady Seven, Crazy Baldhead Sound System, Da Whole Thing, the SKAndalous All Stars, as well as an acoustic solo project by Vic Ruggiero.

THE SLACKERS

The Slackers are an American ska band, formed in Manhattan, New York in 1991. The band's sound is a mix of ska, rocksteady, reggae, dub, soul, garage rock, and jazz. The Slackers' notability is credited to their prolific career, tours of North and South America, Europe, and elsewhere, and signing to notable punk label Hellcat Records.

The members of the Slackers have also been known to perform in other bands and musical projects, including Reggae Workers of the World, David Hillyard & The Rocksteady Seven, Crazy Baldhead Sound System, Da Whole Thing, The Hall Trees, Stubborn All-Stars, and the SKAndalous All Stars. Vic Ruggiero performs as a solo act performing both original compositions as well as reworked Slackers songs, and has also played keyboards and piano on several Rancid albums.

This is a 14+ event. 14 and 15 year old’s MUST be accompanied by an adult.

Hideki Matsuyama clarifies circumstances of downtown London robbery

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. – Hideki Matsuyama, his caddie, and his coach, who were robbed in London last week, had just eaten dinner and paid the check at a downtown restaurant when they realized their bags were missing.

Matsuyama spoke about the robbery after signing for an opening-round, 5-under 65 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Thursday. He played with a fill-in caddie, Taiga Tabuchi, after his regular bag man, Shota Hayafuji, and his coach, Mikihito Kuromiya, were forced to return to Japan to sort out their travel documents.

“It was an unfortunate situation,” Matsuyama said through an interpreter. “Luckily, I only lost my wallet, but Shota, my caddie, and my coach, lost their passports, and we're trying hard now to get their visas back in line, and hopefully they can join us as a team as soon as possible.”

Fill-in caddie Tabuchi usually works for Ryo Hisatsune, who didn’t make the FedExCup Playoffs.

Matsuyama, Hayafuji, and Kuromiya were on their way back from the Paris Olympics, where nine-time PGA TOUR winner Matsuyama earned the bronze medal, when they stopped for the night in London.

Matsuyama previously said his caddie and coach will miss next week’s BMW Championship in Denver, but on Thursday allowed that his caddie could return for the TOUR Championship at East Lake in two weeks.

"Shota will make it, I think,” Matsuyama said, “but my coach probably won't.”

There was no high-speed chase through the streets of London, he added, or any chase at all.

“We didn't even know it happened,” Matsuyama said. “We were just having a friendly dinner, and Shota was the first one – Hey, where is my bag ? Of course it was frustrating, but we really didn't know it happened. It was just kind of all of a sudden.

"Yeah, he just took it and ran,” he added.

Matsuyama, the winner of The Genesis Invitational at The Riviera Country Club earlier this season, made seven birdies and two bogeys in the opening round at TPC Southwind. He came into this week at No. 8 in the FedExCup and showed no ill effects from breaking in a new caddie, Tabuchi.

"Kind of reminded me of the first time Shota was on my bag,” Matsuyama said. “We kind of worked through a couple things. Really that was the main thing today is having teamwork with my caddie. Playing well, and I don't know how Shota is going to take it, but we'll work that out.”

Would Shota still have a job when he gets back?

Matsuyama laughed.

"Of course,” he said.

Taylor Swift Meets Survivors Of Southport Stabbing Backstage At The Eras Tour

The families of the children who survived the recent stabbing attack in Southport were invited to meet Taylor Swift behind the scenes of her Eras Tour.

Around a month ago, three children were killed and 10 more were injured in a mass stabbing at a dance studio in the Merseyside town, which took place during a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga workshop.

The Grammy-winning singer returned to the UK last week for the final European shows on her current world tour, and invited those affected to meet her backstage.

On Sunday, Sami Foster, the mum of two young girls who were present during the stabbing, posted a picture of her daughters meeting Taylor backstage at Wembley Stadium over the weekend on TikTok .

“You drew stars around my scars,” she wrote , quoting Taylor’s hit Cardigan. “The biggest thank you to Taylor Swift and her mum for making the most magical night possible for us all.”

“Thank you for bringing Hope and Autumn pure happiness last night and always,” she added.

Following the Southport stabbing, Taylor shared her shock on Instagram.

“The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I’m just completely in shock,” she wrote the following day. “The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders.

“These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.”

Variety has reported that Taylor has invited the families of other children present for the horrific attack to join her backstage, though these meetings have not been made public.

Taylor is due to complete the UK leg of her Eras Tour with one last show at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night.

Swift invited the children on the London stop of her “Eras Tour” and spent time with the pair backstage after the show. Photos of the sweet moment were posted by the mother, Sami Foster, in a Tik Tok captioned, “You drew stars around my scars   ….,”

The montage of snaps shows the family posing with the Grammy winner, a moment Foster describes as “pure happiness.” “Making the most magical night possible for us all. thank you for bringing Hope & Autumn pure happiness last night & always.”

Previous videos on Foster’s Tik Tok page show the family have been long time fans of the “Karma” singer and had attended the Eras Tour several times already.

On July 29, the girls were two of several affected by an attack that took place inside a dance school when 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana, armed with a knife, started stabbing those inside. Three child victims identified as Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice Dasilva Aguiar were killed and 10 other were injured.

The attacker was charged with murder, 10 counts of attempted murder, and possession of a bladed article.

On August 1, Rudakubana appeared in court for the first time where the judge did not set bail. “You are remanded into youth accommodation detention until proceedings are completed,” the judge told Rudakubana, per the Liverpool Echo . “I am not granting you bail today.”

After the incident, Swift reportedly sent gifts and balloons to the hospitalized victims. In the wake of the attack she wrote on her Instagram stories , “These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.”
