Pearl Jam Is Finally Hitting the Road in Support of ‘Gigaton’

By Tomás Mier

Two years after putting their tour in support of LP Gigaton on hold due to the pandemic, Pearl Jam is ready to head out on the road for a North American tour, starting May 3. The Eddie Vedder -fronted band will make 19 stops across Canada and the U.S., including two shows at L.A.’s Forum and one at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Josh Klinghoffer — the former guitarist for Red Hot Chilli Peppers — is set to open for Pearl Jam with his solo project Pluralone. He’ll also join Pearl Jam as a touring member alongside Vedder, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, Mike McCready, and Matt Cameron.

The tour will feature efforts to reduce Pearl Jam’s carbon footprint by paying $200 per ton for carbon dioxide mitigation — a 10-time increase to the band’s efforts in past years. The band has made a conscious effort during past tours to minimize their impact on the environment and global warming.

“We are proud of our prior efforts to mitigate our inevitable carbon footprint from touring over the past 20 years but the time to multiply that effort is clearly right now,” said Gossard in a release. “By committing to this aggressive pricing, we hope to equally amplify our efforts and gather partners who share our urgency to make the investments and innovations required to move our world to a more conscious, carbon balanced economy.”

Tickets for the tour go on sale Monday.

Pearl Jam’s most recent album featured songs such as “Dance of the Clairvoyants,” “Superblood Wolfmoon,” and Retrograde.” The band last went on tour in 2018 with several stops at baseball stadiums. Along with their North America dates in May and the fall, the group is also heading to Europe this summer.

The improv on Daughter is based around the line “it’s in my hands.” After Sometimes, Ed says he’s going to play one he “borrowed” from Paul McCartney, and he plays the Beatles’ “Her Majesty” for the first time, no doubt a tribute to the Queen who had died earlier in the day. Prior to Even Flow, he sees a sign that says “I (heart) U Eddy” and he points out the misspelling, referring back to a show in 1993 where there was a sign propositioning him that used the same incorrect spelling. He then mentions the Elton John show taking place in the city that night and sings a tease of Tiny Dancer, saying he always heard the line as “…count the head lice on the highway,” and then jokes about Mike’s mishearing of the line in Kiss’ “Rock And Roll All Night” as “…and part of every day.” Cinnamon Girl returns as a tag on I Got Shit for the first time since 2011! After the break, Ed talks about being in Canada and says that one of his favorite tours was the 2005 run. Someone has a sign for EB and Ed again talks about how the band is committed to helping find a cure and how it’s “a matter of time.” There’s another banner, this one says “Play Light Years for Gord,” Gord Downie being the singer of the Tragically Hip who passed away in 2017, and the request is fulfilled. Last Kiss is played to the back, its first appearance since 2018. Stone starts Leash after Jeremy but breaks a string and the song is aborted in favor of Alive.

Jeff is wearing a t-shirt that reads “WE THE NORTH WEST,” a running theme started at the first Toronto show two nights before. The greeting comes before the callback in Corduroy with “welcome to the last show,” describing it as feeling like the “last day of school, let’s make a night of it.” During Brain of J., Jeff ducks and then laughs as Ed rushes to catch something dropped from above. After Animal, Ed says “good things been happening in this building in the last couple days,” in reference to the first Toronto date and the NBA playoff game the previous night, and toasts to being able to play the last show in Toronto. Following Garden, Ed mentions the victims of the forest fires in Alberta and Manitoba evacuated days earlier and that the band will continue to “send some dough their way” from concert proceeds, and dedicates I Am Mine to “being safe and secure, however temporarily.” Good crowd participation during Nothingman. After Cropduster, Ed explains the origin of the line “let the fluency set it down” as coming from drinking wine with an Italian who didn’t speak perfect English, he figured he was trying to say “‘go with the flow’ or something…but then I thought ‘that’s really kind of amazing,’ so I’ve been letting the fluency set it down for quite some time now.” He goes on to tease about most big cities having their own “monument or erection…of course, you here have the band Rush, that’s a monument…we’ve been playing for 25 years and if we wanted to learn a Rush song we’d probably have to play for 25 more,” to which Mike plays a few chords of “Fly by Night” followed by Jeff and Matt with “Cygnus X-1”. Ed returns to monuments/erections by citing the Space Needle and introducing Even Flow as being written right below it. A drum solo by Matt tops off another impressive solo performance by Mike. Ed switches the lyrics to “white male Canadian” during the W.M.A. tag. Prior to Alone, Ed thanks the crowd for their singing and teases “Right now we’d like to play the whole Binaural record for you.” Ed promotes EB research funding during the break and thanks Dr. Elena Pope at the U of T-Hospital for Sick Children for signing onto the effort. On being shown a French flag, he recalls the terrorist attack at the Eagles of Death Metal concert in Paris the year before and dedicates Just Breathe to a fan and victim, Pierre-Antoine Henry, and his kids. Breath is dedicated to their friend Michele (Anthony), who “specialized in working with difficult artists, and we wouldn’t be here without her.” During the Porch breakdown, he lifts up his guitar under a stage light and uses it to reflect light onto people all throughout the audience. The second encore starts with another compliment, “you make it very difficult to leave,” before trolling the audience with “whatever happened to the Toronto Maple Leafs?” During Better Man, Ed holds the song in a loop and banters for three minutes about looking forward to going home, having just taken a quick shot of tequila backstage, a driver on the first stop of the tour speaking offensively, the contrast between that start to the tour and the end in an exemplary city. Boom is introduced before Crazy Mary, Mike jams alongside him on a fiery solo while Ed enters the crowd to mingle. Toronto native Donna Grantis is again introduced to join the band for Baba O’Riley (after also playing at the previous show), and Ed acknowledges Geddy Lee at the side of the stage, to which the band plays a bit of Cygnus X-1 again. Ed signs off with a personal “see ya, JP” to a fan he sang Thin Air with at the first show, before addressing the entire crowd: “We the northwest, a pleasure being in the north,” and signs off as Geddy Vedder one last time.

Main Set: Go, Do the Evolution, Mind Your Manners, Breakerfall, God’s Dice, Evacuation, Light Years, Nothing as it Seems, Thin Air, Insignificance, Of the Girl, Grievance, Rival, Sleight of Hand, Soon Forget, Parting Ways, Corduroy, Once, Rearviewmirror

Crowd erupts as the intro of Go is played just like on the album. A thunderous Mind Your Manners precedes the Binaural set, with Ed mentioning that they have the next night off (the second Toronto date was pushed back a day by their NBA playoff game). He then talks about how the first time in Toronto they played seven songs, and then auctions how many they’ll play that night, “nine, 10… can I get a 13… 18 in the back.” A longer solo from Mike on Breakerfall helps tear open the album set. Evacuation is introduced with a reflection about fire alarms and expecting to be told it’s a false alarm, remembering the over 88,000 people evacuated days earlier due to wildfires in northern Alberta. Ed introduces Thin Air by explaining that it’s one of his personal favorites of Stone’s: “if we ever had a popular song, this would be the one” and describes how he’d imagined a love song-style video. Near the end, he visits the crowd, takes a fan’s hand, and puts his arm around him while they both sing the last chorus together, essentially recreating his idea for the video. Back onstage, Ed quips “What’s your name? JP? Meet you after the show, handsome.” Ed enters Sleight of Hand too early, Stone stops playing immediately and Ed gestures to the band to start over while pointing to himself to accept the blame, then turns back and tells the crowd “the thing about vinyl records is sometimes they skip…let me clean the needle.” The song is restarted and finishes strong. Soon Forget is prefaced with “it wasn’t written about anybody in particular…now I realize it’s exactly about Donald Trump” before going on to muse about the band moving to Canada and Ed changing his name to Geddy Vedder in honor of Rush. The crowd whistles back at the “we’re all whistling” line and Ed eggs them on, hanging on to that chord. Ed holds out the last note in Parting Ways for several seconds amidst guitar feedback, pick scraping, and resolute drumming. Corduroy has an extra burst at the end, and a breakdown jam on Rearviewmirror featuring a Jeff and Matt standoff. The second set opens with Ed checking on the crowd and counting off all their good memories of Toronto, including all the other bands they’ve seen play, and joking about how good Soundgarden’s drummer was as a prelude to introducing Matt. Here he announces the band will donate money from their Canada shows to help wildfire victims in Alberta and lists the benefitting groups, before asking the audience to light up the room with their phones for the cover of Imagine. Let Me Sleep is played as a nod to the cold. Even Flow picks things back up and sounds like it has an extra groove to it: Mike puts the guitar behind his head and ventures out to the crowd for the first part of an extended, feedback-laden solo that earns Ed’s applause, and Ed tosses the mic into the crowd for fans to sing the last chorus. Down is dedicated to Howard Zinn, “the ultimate ‘positimist,’ that’s not a word, but….” Ed teases the crowd with a long pause and a swig of wine before a sustained “ohhh-oh-oh” to open the second verse of Better Man. Matt, Jeff, and Ed fling, headbutt, and practice boxing with the lamps that have lowered to stage level during Porch, and give the first encore an amped-up finish with Ed mingling in the crowd and sipping a fan’s beer. Ed starts the second encore with the observation “if they got a crowd tomorrow with this much energy tonight they might win it all” and identifies the band and Toronto as both being from the north: “there’s power in north, north points up.” After Given To Fly, Ed calls everyone’s attention to a fan who’s spent the entire show in a bright orange ski mask and references having worn one at a show by Jeff’s band RNDM but “I didn’t last three songs in that fucking thing…I commend you” and jokingly introduces the fan as Matt Damon (who was evidently in attendance in a different part of the arena).. Black winds down with the Todd Rundgren “Time Heals” tag. The Real Me is introduced by Ed saying “We borrowed a couple of great songs tonight, we’re gonna borrow one more.” Toronto native and Prince guitarist Donna Grantis is welcomed onstage to close the show with Rockin’ in the Free World and steals the show, earning a “we’re not worthy” bow from Mike.

Watch Now: Pearl Jam Debut Cover of The Beatles’ “Her Majesty” in Toronto

Watch Now: Pearl Jam Debut Cover of The Beatles’ “Her Majesty” in Toronto

On Sept. 8, Pearl Jam brought their current North American tour to Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Mixed into last night’s expansive set was a debut cover of The Beatles’ 1969 ditty, “Her Majesty,” which was performed the same day as the sudden death of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

Pearl Jam’s cover of The Beatles’ track landed after a run-through of “Daughter,” “Come Back,” and “Sometimes” and was the fourth song of the night. The tune initially appeared on The Beatles’ 11th studio album, the seminal 1969 classic Abbey Road , and was originally led by Paul McCartney.

A seated Vedder strummed his guitar and grabbed the mic before addressing the audience directly: “This is a little one I’m going to borrow from Paul McCartney for about 90 seconds.”

From there, he jumped into the acoustic cover, which was capped by a tour debut of “All Those Yesterdays,” which was last played on Aug. 8, 2018, at Safeco Fields in the band’s native Seattle.

Watch a fan-shot video of Pearl Jam performing both The Beatles’ “Her Majesty” and the bust out of “All Those Yesterdays” off the troupe’s 1998 LP, Yield .

Pearl Jam is a five-piece American rock band from Seattle, Washington. Formed in 1990, the band originally had four members and championed the Seattle sound of grunge and alternative rock. Pearl Jam is considered one of the biggest names in music from the 1990s, especially in the grunge music scene.

In addition to shunning media attention, the band is known for its social activism and outspoken political views. Most notably, the band members were vocally opposed to the 43rd president of the U.S., George W. Bush.

The band is comparable to other grunge bands of the era, with a slightly lighter overall tone more reminiscent of classic rock. Lead singer Eddie Vedder’s distinctive gravelly vocals also set the band apart from many others of the time in terms of sound.

The band has drawn comparisons to The Doors, Nirvana, and The Ramones, and Vedder’s vocals have been compared many times to the iconic Jim Morrison. Vedder cites The Who, Neil Young, and Led Zeppelin as major musical influences on the band.

Pearl Jam still remains iconic in the ’90’s grunge rock scene, with its 1991 debut album, “Ten,” now certified 13 times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The band has remained successful even without the ’90’s grunge backdrop to support them, and since early comparisons to Nirvana, Pearl Jam can now be likened to the Foo Fighters, Radiohead, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Pearl Jam is infamous or famous (depending on whose side you’re on) for pushing back against music industry traditions and the mainstream since the band’s inception. For instance, its members refused to make music videos to promote albums and never gave interviews; the little media engagement they were involved in was regarding a boycott of ticketing giant Ticketmaster in 1994.

Thanks to its unconventional approach to fame and its dedication to lengthy and sprawling tours, Pearl Jam has cultivated an enormous fan following, with some of the more ardent fans being compared to the notoriously dedicated fanbase of the Grateful Dead. To date, the band has released 11 critically-acclaimed and commercially successful albums.

Born out of the band Mother Love Bone after its vocalist Andrew Wood died, the band includes vocalist and frontman Eddie Vedder, guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, and bassist Jeff Ament. The drummer for the band has changed no less than five times, but Matt Cameron (formerly of Soundgarden) has filled the seat since 1998.

Pearl Jam exploded onto the music scene in 1991 with its first album, Ten. The debut album was a huge success and spent an impressive five years on the Billboard Top 200 chart, becoming one of the highest-grossing rock albums of all time. Following the album’s release, the band launched a massive tour to promote it.

The release of its second album, Vs., in 1993 was even more successful. During its first week on the market, the album sold so many copies it set a record for the most copies sold in a single week. Total record sales for that week landed at 950,000.

In 1994, news broke that Ticketmaster was gouging Pearl Jam’s concert goers with excessive service charges. Outraged, Vedder and his bandmates organized an informal boycott of Ticketmaster events. Wanting to connect with their fans more directly and avoid them paying fees to the “outright [greedy]” concert industry, Pearl Jam canceled its 1994 summer tour. It even lodged a formal complaint with the Justice Department claiming that Ticketmaster was an illegal monopoly.

On the heels of the unprecedented success of Vs., the band returned to the studio to produce its third album, Vitalogy. The album initially dropped in November 1994 on vinyl before its official CD release in December. After the CD release, the album became the second-fastest-selling rock record in history, with an astonishing 877,000 copies sold during the first week.

Later that year after the release of its third album, Vitalogy, the band conducted its own tour, playing exclusively non-Ticketmaster venues. It often had to play at very unconventional venues as a result, and their tour crew took practically an entire venue’s worth of equipment and staging everywhere they went.

Despite Pearl Jam’s best efforts in the fight against Ticketmaster, in 1995, the Justice Department in America ceased to investigate the company. The band was left defeated after being “stomped on by a huge corporate entity.” While the loss frustrated the band members, it didn’t slow their production.

In 1996, the next album, No Code, was released. The album is the most unique in terms of sound and is an intentional departure from the band's original sound. The band’s next studio album, Yield, was released in February 1998 and marked its return to its signature sound.

Over the next decade, the band created more highly successful music, securing its position as one of the most successful bands in U.S. music history and becoming a household name by the end of the 1990s. The group created several more albums, experimenting slightly with different musical influences but remaining true to its signature rock sound that made it famous at the onset of its musical career.

The group's extreme popularity diminished some during the early 2000s. In May 2000, the group released its sixth studio album titled Binaural. The album, while still successful, was less of a commercial success than its predecessors. A massive summer tour followed the release of, Binaural. Unfortunately, the tour ended tragically when nine fans were crushed to death when the crowd rushed the stage at the Roskilde Festival while Pearl Jam performed.

The seventh album, Riot Act, dropped in November 2002 to good reviews, but was followed by a lengthy hiatus. The band released its next album, the self-titled Pearl Jam, in May 2006. Backspacer, the group’s ninth album, came next in 2007. Throughout 2009 and 2010, Pearl Jam promoted Backspacer with tours across North America and Europe. Fans had to wait a few years for the tenth album, Lightning Bolt, which came out in 2013.

In 2017, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. By 2018, Pearl Jam was one of the best-selling bands of all time. It boasted nearly 85 million album sales worldwide, with 32 million in the U.S. alone.

Its eleventh and most recent studio album, Gigaton, dropped in 2020.

The band continues to tour and is known as one of the best arena acts of all time. In May 2022, the band announced the forthcoming release of new material. Check out its official website to stay up to date on upcoming Pearl Jam tour dates, tickets, and more.

Live reviews

Cornell & Kurt & Layne & Lanegan are all sadly no longer with us. And of course Pearl Jam themselves eventuated after the tragic passing of Andy Wood. I had never seen Pearl Jam live before, being only a very casual fan of the band, but I made the trek to the 2024 Manchester show largely to pay my respects to one of the last major forces from that beautiful era of music that does mean a lot personally.

I remember Ten and Vs. quite well. I sort of recall Vitalogy… but then it gets a bit hazy... Arriving early, I was surprised to able to stroll almost right to the very front and then observe the sizeable arena fill up behind me.

I thought they would put on a good show but this was unbelievable. ‘Of the girl’ was a cool and interesting opener and ‘Why go’ really got the fans excited. To my left a 50 year old man was crowd surfing. The sound of the band was crisp and powerful and Mike McCready’s guitar solos were blistering.

Eddie was apologetic that he had picked up a throat issue in Ireland and was on medication, but anything his voice lacked on the night, he more than made up for with humour, kindness and consideration to the crowd. He finished one tune abruptly to check on the safety, and to pour a beverage for an unfortunate soul who had been partially crushed in the revelry.

The band progressed through an excellent set. At one point during ‘State of love and trust’ I found myself just metres from Vedder himself as he warmly greeted fans on our side of the stage. Much of the more recent material that was new to me, I will certainly check out again as everything sounded great and complimented nicely classics like ‘Even Flow,’ Alive’, ‘Daughter’ and ‘Black’.

Massive credit to Pearl Jam on such a brilliant, memorable and slightly emotional show from this ‘90s teen.

If you haven't heard of Pearl Jam, they were one of the biggest bands of the 90s and are still wildly popular today. One of the key players in the grunge movement, Pearl Jam features the strong voice of Eddie Vedder. Pearl Jam put on a great show that has the audience on their feet from the opening number until the last encore – they can even drive this middle-aged dad to mosh from time to time!

Pearl Jam perform for almost three hours a night and usually don't have an opening act, so they definitely give the fans their money's worth. These days, Pearl Jam mostly play larger venues and stadium shows, but their performance doesn't need to be masked by special effects, background musicians, and fancy dance routines. They play good honest music with soulful vocals for an eclectic crowd of all ages from fifty-year old soccer moms to teens dressed in black. Intertwined with the music are some lyrics and/or monologues espousing liberal political causes, but I imagine that even a diehard conservative would forgive them once the band got back to the music!

They generally play a mix of fan favorites and b-side songs with some really interesting covers (like "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" by The Beatles, or maybe some Neil Young) added to the mix. The set list can vary quite a bit from date to date, which is good news for anyone planning to attend multiple shows.

This was my 18th Pearl Jam show and it was one of the best!!

Detroit is an amazing place to spend a day or two. Despite everything you hear in the media I felt safe and the people were all super nice. We went to a local bar and met lots of cool people from all over who were attending the Wishlist Foundation pre-party.

This is a charity run by Pearl Jam fans who throw a party before each concert, worldwide. Great vibe and you get to support a number of great causes. I won 3 raffle prizes!! We make our way to the show and even though our seats were int he 200's it did not matter, there was not a bad seat in the place. Much smaller than Toronto, which is nice.

Pearl Jam seems to be in the best place as a band they have ever been in! You can see how happy they all are from the nosebleeds. Always smiling and interacting and joking around.

The set-list was INSANE. It was one of the best I have ever seen and the best on the tour by far......until they went and played "No Code and Yield in their entirety a couple days later.

It was a great show, they are this generations Grateful Dead, every show is different and worth seeing and the vibe and fans and relationship we all have is what makes it special.

I hope you all get to experience it once.

I must admit I hadn't seen Pearl Jam for a few years. I grew up with them, they shaped me. They got me through some bad times and were there for the good times too. But I still didn't know what to expect because, hey, they're a bit older now aren't they? What I didn't expect was to be blown away. Certainly not to the extremes that I was.

Put quite simply that was the best gig I have ever been to. Ever. Without doubt.

34 songs and 3 1/4 hours of pure passion, feeling, emotion and energy. I don't know who enjoyed it more - the crowd or Pearl Jam themselves. It was so clear that they didn't want to leave the stage and we'd all still be there now if Eddie Vedder could have had his way.

The man is a God. Always has been. Always will be. But last night Mike McCready was sublime. Effortless perfection. Simply stunning.

The day after a gig is always a test for me. If I wake up thinking about the gig the gig was good. But today I've been unable to concentrate on anything else. I don't know how I coped before YouTube but it's been my saviour today.

Kids haven't heard of Pearl Jam. They don't know who they are, they don't know what they are. My kids however do. Pearl Jam is in my DNA.

Great show from Pearl Jam last night. 34 songs and almost 3hour non-stop! The sound in Telenor arena is usually average and sometimes poor. This time the sound were overall pretty good. Vocals were actually quite good.

The band entered the stage at 20:15 (they were supposed to enter 20:00), but no big deal. The concert ended 23:10, so almost 3hours of great rock n roll! :) The setlist was a bit different from last time I saw Pearl Jam in Oslo, 2012. Still missing some of my personal favorites: Better man, Black, I am mine, Nothingman, The Fixer. Some of them were playted in 2012, so no big deal.

Fantastic that they played Garden! A girl on front row had been in 22 shows and never heard it. She had a poster with that written on it. PJ actually played it for her, and she cried her happy tears. Magical moment.

Eddie Vedder is music, his presence is unique. Probably the best concert ever in Telenor arena, Oslo. It's difficult to get a good atmosphere and it is hated as a venue amongst musiclovers. It is not built for concerts. Today I forgot that the concert was in Telenor arena, it was a great atmosphere.

Amazing show in Rio de Janeiro @ Maracanã on November 22th 2015.

Perfect vocals from mr. Vedder, the band was very tight with lenghty solos from mr. McReady and a furious and visceral drumming from Mr. Cameron.

This is a great band, definitely worth seeing live. Mixing old classics and a couple of songs from recent releases, the band never ceases to amaze, in my humble opinion. This was my second time seeing PJ live (the first was on their limited tour in 2013 while they were amidst "Lightning Bolt" recording schedule). The band consider their fans as a "large family" as mentioned by mr. Vedder himself last night, and the gig definitely has a "gathering" vibe, specially if you go with your old pals from school, like it was my case.

In addition, mr. Vedder invited a fan to sing the first verse from one of their songs, wore a speedo on top of his clothes throw by a fan (go figure), drank cachaça (local spirit) and made a powerful and very heartfelt tribute to one of the victims from the Paris Attacks.

4 out of 5 stars (I rated "4" since I didn't knew the words from many of their songs).

The bar has just been raised to a new, and I feel unmatchable height in live music!! Pearl Jam were beyond amazing, a truly emotional near 3 and a half hour set which had me in tears of happiness, smiles, singing til my voice gave out! Truly the best gig I have ever been, and with the list I have behind me that's no mean feat!! Pearl Jam I salute you, you took a massive back catalogue and managed to put the perfect set, taking us up through the emotions, songs like Black beautifully pulling at heart strings, and Jeremy causing such a mass singalong that it almost drowns Eddies soul dripping vocals. It's powerful from start to epic finish, and even after nearly 3 and half hours onstage the energy being displayed is that of a band not even half their age. Simply put, after having seen nearly 1500 bands live, Pearl Jam just put each and every one in their place. Epic, breathtaking, words that still can't cover it!!

I've seen Pearl Jam 21 times since 1998 and each and every show was amazing! Of course, there are a few shows that stand out, the main one being the final show at the Spectrum in Philadelphia on Halloween night, 2009. The last show at this historical venue was one of four sold-out shows that week and the fact that it was on Halloween night made it a trifecta of live music awesomeness! They rocked the Spectrum for over 3 and half hours that night…how many other bands out there play shows that long? Many people ask, “How can you go see the same band multiple times on one tour?” Well, Pearl Jam isn’t your average band! No two shows are ever the same, so going to multiple shows is a must, or you might miss one of the rare songs…like when they played “Bugs” at that Spectrum show for the first time EVER! Pearl Jam concerts are the BEST shows…past, present and future!

Great setlist, perfect weather, fitting venue and they guys from Pearl Jam so great, energetic and charismatic as always. They seem to really love to play live for their crowd. Only negative thing was due to se fanatic Ten-Club member group (aparently US-americans, aprox. 20-25 persons) who were very hostile towarda people who approched the front rows, threatening people in group and being very disgusting while appearing to be very "devote" fans. Sasly security didn’t seem to notice or, if they did, didn’t care. That just left a bit of bitterness since it was infuriating to see how they were behaving and being aggresive and trying to intimidate people in a band‘s concert who otherwise represent the whole opposite of that group‘s behavior.

Other than that, it was an awesome, long and unforgettable show.

Tuesday 17th July. The O2, London. Pearl Jam. So here we are at the rescheduled date after the recent cancelled gig in June. I probably said most of what I wanted to say in my review from last month https://garyw66.weebly.com/blog/rockin-in-the-free-world-with-pearl-jam

All that said this time I was down on the floor this time and it certainly added to the atmosphere and you could appreciate the light show too. Making up for the cancelled gig tonight we are treated to a 33 song near three hour set, encore upon encore including some great covers from the likes of Petty, The Who and Dylan.

It’s a breathless night and tonight Pearl Jam only go to confirm that they are one of the great live rock acts around. I don’t need to say anymore. Another great night.

Pearl Jam has locked-in new replacement dates for the 2020 North America tour that was scrapped due to the pandemic.

The shows, in support of their 2020 album Gigaton , will unfold in a two-leg trek, the first of which will begin May 3 in San Diego and wrap May 20 in Las Vegas. The fall leg kicks off Sept. 1 in Quebec City, Quebec, and closes Sept. 22 in Denver, Colorado.

The Baltimore show from the 2020 routing, however, has been canceled due to renovations at Royal Farms Arena. Instead, new California dates have been added in Fresno and Sacramento, Las Vegas and Camden, New Jersey. Pearl Jam touring member Josh Klinghoffer will open the tour with his solo project Pluralone.

Pearl Jam details new album ’Dark Matter,’ drops first single, announces world tour Back to video

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers revealed the new details on the project and their 2024 plans on Tuesday.

“Dark Matter,” their 12th studio album and first since 2020’s “Gigaton,” will be released April 19 on Monkeywrench and Republic records. A tour is scheduled to begin May 4 in Vancouver.

Singer Eddie Vedder, 59, lead guitarist Mike McCready, 57, and bassist Jeff Ament, 60, played the record for the first time on Jan. 31 for invited guests at the Troubadour club in West Hollywood. “No hyperbole, I think this is our best work,” Vedder said from the stage as he introduced the album.

The band spawned from the Seattle scene of three decades ago shows no signs of softening with age on the album, which leans toward their rocking side even more than “Megaton” did, with drummer Matt Cameron’s pounding at the forefront.

The record, produced by Andrew Watt at Rick Rubin ’s Shangri-La studio in Malibu, has been ready and awaiting release for about a year.
