The list of TUI-owned airlines includes Corsair International (France), TUI Airways (UK), TUI fly Belgium, TUI fly Deutschland, TUI fly Netherlands, and TUI fly Nordic (departures from Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway).

In FY2016 (the fiscal year 2016), TUI Cruises had 60% growth (over FY2015) in earnings, with EBITA of EUR 130 million (EUR 81 million in FY2015). The reported growth came from the corporation's two main markets - Germany and UK.

TUI Cruises started operations by acquiring Celebrity Galaxy (owned by Celebrity Cruises - another RCCL subsidiary). The ship left Celebrity's fleet on March 16, 2009. After buying Celebrity Galaxy, the vessel was refitted at Lloyd Werft shipyard ( Bremerhaven, Germany ) arriving on March 27 for 38-day, EUR 50 million conversions. Galaxy was re-christened on May 15 in Hamburg and renamed "Mein Schiff" (meaning "My Ship" in Deutsch). TUI planned to build two 100,000 GT, 2500-passenger ships in 2011 and 2012.

  • On May 27, 2010, was revealed that Celebrity Mercury joins TUI fleet as "Mein Schiff 2"(renamed in 2018 to Mein Schiff Herz/now Marella Voyager ). Before the refit, "MS Mein Schiff" was renamed to Mein Schiff 1 (now Marella Explorer ). Schiff 2 entered service in February 2011 after an extensive drydock reconstruction .
  • On September 27, 2011, TUI and STX Finland announced shipbuilding contract for a 97,000 GT vessel ( Schiff 3 ) with delivery in 2014. The vessel is 968 ft (295 m) long, with 1250 staterooms (most of which are balconied) and capacity 2500 passengers and 1000 crew. The contract included an optional second ship, that was ordered on November 5, 2012 ( Schiff 4 ). Schiff 3 entered service on April 22, 2014.
  • In March 2015, RCI ( Royal Caribbean International ) announced selling Splendour of the Seas to TUI Cruises in 2016-Q2. TUI leased the vessel to Thomson UK (now Marella) replacing MS Island Escape (now Ocean Gala ).
  • In May 2015 TUI Group announced that as part of fleet modernization strategy, Schiff 1 and 2 will be transferred to Thomson/Marella over the next few years to upgrade TUI's UK fleet.
  • In 2018, TUI signed a partnership deal with "Merkur Casino Mare" (part of Gauselmann Group) for the onboard gambling on Schiff 1 (since 2018), Schiff 2 (since 2019) and Schiff 3 (since 2021). The ship Casino features 6x electronic roulettes plus 14x other Merkur gaming machines, and a separate gambling lounge with 4x M-Box Buzzer (multi-gaming machines) and a blackjack table for live gaming. For 2020, Gauselmann AG reported revenue EUR 2,56 billion (~USD 3B / ~GBP 2,2B). Since 2012, Gauselmann owns the British company Praesepe Ltd (now Merkur Casino UK) which owns the Cashino brand (street gambling arcade chain).
  • In mid-October 2021, TUI announced that Schiff Herz will be transferred in 2023 to Marella Cruises UK . Following a drydock, the boat will be renamed "Marella Voyager", starting operations for Marella on June 3, 2023.

The Hannover travel group TUI AG (listed at London Stock Exchange) keeps an upbeat outlook of cruise shipping activities. The company owns 100% of Hapag-Lloyd Kreuzfahrten and 50% of TUI Kreuzfahrten.

In August 2015, TUI announced EBITA growth (Q3) by EUR 11 million, which reflected the full-year profit of Schiff 3 (operated since June 2014) and the launch of Schiff 4 (June 2015). In addition, Hapag-Lloyd's remarkable turnaround and EUR 4 million benefits from refinancing ms Europa 2 meant that TUI had EUR 21 million increase in underlying EBITA (earnings before interest, taxes, and amortization).

TUI Mein Schiff cruise ship

In May 2015, TUI AG Supervisory Board and RCCL-Royal Caribbean confirmed the purchase options for Schiff 7 and Schiff 8 (later renamed "Schiff 1" and "Schiff 2", delivered respectively in 2018 and 2019), as the German market reported further growth. The new liners are slightly larger (2860 lower berths each), built by Meyer Turku Finland . The deal was fully financed within TUI Cruises (joint venture) - without further contribution from TUI AG and RCCL.

Schiff 5 was launched on January 15, 2016, following the 14-month construction period. Around 1500 employees are involved in the building of each TUI vessel.

In mid-July 2018, TUI ordered two new ships (161,000 GT-ton, 4000-passenger) - this time from the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. Their scheduled deliveries are in 2025-Q1 ( Schiff Relax ) and 2026-Q2 ( Schiff 9 ). TUI's "Italian" liners are LNG-powered and from the company's new InTUItion-Class (fka TUI XL-Schiff).

In October 2018, TUI announced the "Wasteless" initiative aimed to eliminate disposable plastic products fleetwide (and also in land-based operations - provision suppliers and office staff) by the year 2020. Plastics will be replaced by alternative products made from renewable resources. The eco-initiative started with the newbuilds, on which in all cabin bathrooms, shower gel and shampoo dispensers are refillable, terry slippers are bathrobe's pockets (not packed in plastic), laundry bags are from bio-based plastic, coffee-to-go cups for crew are from bio-based plastic, drink stirrers are wooden. In November 2019, TUI reported ~30 million single-use plastic items replaced with renewable/sustainable materials-made alternatives.

In 2018, the German travel market reached ~2,2 million cruisers, of whom ~26% were served by TUI.

(Coronavirus crisis) passenger shipping pause 2020-2021

Due to the COVID pandemic, TUI River Cruises suspended passenger shipping operations by canceling all voyages with pre-scheduled departures March 15, 2020, through August 15, 2021. TUI Cruises Germany ("Mein Schiff" fleet) suspended operations on March 23 and restarted on August 21 with Schiff 1 (7-day Norwegian Fjords roundtrip from Kiel) and Schiff 2 (7-day Norway from Hamburg). Schiff 6 started on September 13 (through November 7) with 7-day roundtrips from Heraklion (Crete) to Piraeus-Athens and Kerkyra (Corfu Island).

TUI River Cruises were planned to resume on November 26, 2020 ( Christmas and New Year itineraries ) but were eventually canceled through August 2021 (the brand was inaugurated on August 15, with TUI Maya from Frankfurt).

All affected bookings were automatically canceled and fully refunded in FCC (future cruise credit) notes for the full cost of the cruise. The FCCs can be used for paying a new voyage (with rebooking) or fully refunded (100%) in cash after 12 months.

Next are listed all TUI liners and their first departure dates/homeports/regions in 2021 - Schiff 3 (May 10/Norway from Bremerhaven), Schiff 4 (Apr 23/UK-Baltic from Hamburg), Schiff 5 (May 13/Mediterranean from Heraklion Crete), Schiff 6 (May 9/Mediterranean from Palma de Mallorca), Schiff Herz (Sept 3/Mediterranean from Palma de Mallorca). Schiff 1 and Schiff 2 started Canary Islands cruises in January, with 7-day and 14-day roundtrips from Gran Canaria.

The latest cancellations affected Schiff 5's Asian program (Hong Kong) and Schiff 6's Arabian Gulf program (from Dubai).

TUI Cruises Cancellation Policy: Your Guide to Hassle-free Booking Changes

TUI Cruises Cancellation Policy: Your Guide to Hassle-free Booking Changes

Planning a cruise vacation is an exciting experience, but sometimes unforeseen circumstances may arise, leading to the need for booking changes or even cancellations. That’s where understanding TUI Cruises’ cancellation policy becomes crucial. In this comprehensive guide, we will walk you through the key points of TUI Cruises’ cancellation policy, ensuring a hassle-free experience when it comes to modifying or canceling your reservation.

To begin, let’s take a look at the most important aspects of TUI Cruises’ cancellation policy in the table below:

When it comes to new reservations, the cancellation deadline and associated fees depend on the fare type and sailing date. It’s important to note that TUI Cruises offers various fare types, each with its own cancellation rules. For existing reservations, the cancellation deadline and fees also vary, and it’s crucial to be aware of these details to avoid any unnecessary charges.

To delve deeper into TUI Cruises’ cancellation policy and gain a better understanding of fare types, deadlines, and associated fees, let’s explore the different scenarios and guidelines in detail.

Fare Types and Cancellation Deadlines

TUI Cruises offers different fare types, including Basic, Classic, and Premium, each with its own set of benefits and cancellation rules. It’s essential to familiarize yourself with these fare types to make informed decisions regarding your booking changes. For instance, the Basic fare type typically has stricter cancellation deadlines and higher fees compared to the Premium fare type.

The Basic fare is TUI Cruises’ most affordable option, but it also comes with certain restrictions. If you opt for this fare type, it’s crucial to be aware of the shorter cancellation deadlines. For example, if you need to cancel your cruise, the deadline may be as early as 75 days before the departure date. Failure to meet this deadline may result in significant cancellation fees.

Classic Fare

The Classic fare type offers more flexibility compared to the Basic fare. It usually comes with longer cancellation deadlines, allowing you to make changes closer to your departure date without incurring substantial fees. However, it’s important to review the specific terms and conditions associated with your Classic fare booking to understand the cancellation guidelines applicable to your reservation.

Premium Fare

The Premium fare type provides the highest level of flexibility and benefits, including more lenient cancellation policies. With this fare type, you can often cancel your reservation closer to the sailing date with minimal or no cancellation fees. However, it’s still crucial to review the terms and conditions specific to your Premium fare booking.

Understanding the fare types and associated cancellation deadlines is essential to navigate TUI Cruises’ cancellation policy successfully. By familiarizing yourself with these details, you can make well-informed decisions and avoid unnecessary fees.

It’s worth noting that the information provided here is a general guide to TUI Cruises’ cancellation policy. The specific terms and conditions may vary based on factors such as the destination, itinerary, and promotional offers. Therefore, we recommend visiting TUI Cruises’ official website or contacting their customer service for the most up-to-date and accurate information regarding your booking.

Planning a cruise should be a stress-free experience, and having a clear understanding of TUI Cruises’ cancellation policy is key to ensuring a hassle-free journey. By familiarizing yourself with the fare types, deadlines, and associated fees, you can confidently make booking changes or cancellations if needed. For example, customers who cancel their booking up to a certain number of days before departure may be eligible for a full refund or a future cruise credit. However, it’s important to review the cancellation policy for each individual booking and consult TUI’s official website or customer service for the most up-to-date information. Planning ahead and understanding the cancellation policy can provide peace of mind and ensure a smooth booking experience with TUI Cruises. For more detailed information on TUI Cruises’ cancellation policy, please visit their official website: https://www.tuicruises.com/en/services/faq/booking/booking-changes/booking-cancellation.

First, visit the official TUI Cruises website and navigate to the “Manage My Booking” section. Next, enter your booking details, including your booking number and personal information. From there, select the option to cancel your booking and proceed with the cancellation process. It is important to note that cancellation fees may apply depending on the timing of your cancellation. For more detailed information and to understand the cancellation policy in its entirety, it is recommended to refer to TUI Cruises’ official website.

In summary, TUI Cruises offers a comprehensive cancellation policy that provides flexibility and peace of mind for travelers. Understanding the terms and conditions of this policy is essential for hassle-free booking changes. It is important to note that TUI Cruises’ cancellation policy may vary depending on the specific cruise package or booking type. Therefore, it is always recommended to review the terms and conditions provided by TUI Cruises directly or consult with a travel agent for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

One key aspect of TUI Cruises’ cancellation policy is the timeframe for cancellations. Typically, the earlier you cancel, the more favorable the terms are. For instance, if you cancel well in advance, you may be eligible for a full refund or a future cruise credit. However, if you cancel closer to the departure date, certain fees or penalties may apply.

To ensure a smooth cancellation process, it is crucial to contact TUI Cruises as soon as you know you need to cancel. They have dedicated customer service representatives who can guide you through the process and provide personalized assistance. It is advisable to have your booking details, such as the reservation number and passenger information, readily available when contacting them.

When canceling a TUI Cruises booking, it is important to understand the refund options available. In some cases, you may receive a partial refund, while in others, you may be offered a future cruise credit. The specific refund amount will depend on the cancellation timeframe, as well as any applicable fees or penalties.

To stay updated on the latest cancellation policies and any changes, it is recommended to regularly check TUI Cruises’ official website or subscribe to their newsletter. This will ensure that you are aware of any updates or modifications to the cancellation policy that may affect your booking.

In addition to the official TUI Cruises website, there are several trusted sources where you can find more information about TUI Cruises’ cancellation policy. Their website offers an overview of cruise line cancellation policies, including TUI Cruises, and can serve as a reliable reference for understanding the industry standards.

Anreise Familie TUI Cruises Mein Schiff

Check-in & Check-out

Online Check-in

What to pack for a cruise to south america and antarctica.

' src=

You could be curious, why would anybody opt for a cruise to South America and Antarctica? I’m here to inform you, it’s an unparalleled adventure.

Picture yourself surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, from the vibrant cities of South America to the awe-inspiring icy wilderness of Antarctica. But before you get too carried away with the excitement, you need to know what to pack for this extraordinary journey. That’s where I come in.

In this article, I will guide you through the essential items you should bring on your cruise to ensure comfort, convenience, and most importantly, enjoyment. From layered clothing to protect against changing weather conditions, to waterproof gear for rainy days and zodiac excursions, we’ve got you covered.

So, grab a pen and paper, because you’ll want to take notes. Let’s dive into the world of packing for a cruise to South America and Antarctica.

  • Pack ample supply of prescription medications and essential first aid kit items for emergencies.
  • Bring sustainable travel items such as reusable water bottle, shopping bag, and biodegradable toiletries to minimize environmental impact.
  • Choose proper clothing for the Antarctic climate, including layered clothing, insulated waterproof jacket and pants, warm hats, gloves, socks, and sturdy waterproof boots.
  • Carry essential outdoor gear like binoculars, camera with extra batteries and memory cards, waterproof backpack, trekking poles, and navigation tools for a successful Antarctic exploration.

Layered Clothing for Changing Weather Conditions

You’ll want to pack plenty of layered clothing to stay comfortable in the ever-changing weather conditions. When traveling to South America and Antarctica, the weather can vary greatly from one day to the next.

Packing tips for maximizing suitcase space include rolling your clothes instead of folding them and using packing cubes to compress your items. This will allow you to fit more clothing options into your luggage.

It’s also important to choose the right fabrics for layering in different climates. Opt for lightweight, breathable materials for the base layer, such as merino wool or synthetic fabrics. For the middle layer, consider fleece or down jackets to provide insulation. Finally, for the outer layer, a waterproof and windproof jacket is essential to protect you from rain and harsh winds.

With your layered clothing sorted, you’ll be prepared for whatever weather comes your way on your cruise to South America and Antarctica.

Now, let’s talk about waterproof gear for rainy days and zodiac excursions.

Waterproof Gear for Rainy Days and Zodiac Excursions

Don’t forget to bring your trusty raincoat and sturdy boots for those wet days and adventurous Zodiac trips. The weather in South America and Antarctica can be unpredictable, so it’s important to be prepared with waterproof gear.

Here are some packing tips for your rain gear:

Raincoat: Invest in a high-quality raincoat that is both waterproof and breathable. Look for one with a hood and adjustable cuffs to keep you dry in any downpour.

Waterproof Pants: Pack a pair of waterproof pants to wear over your regular pants or leggings. These will keep your legs dry during rainy excursions or while exploring on shore.

Waterproof Bag: Bring a waterproof bag to protect your belongings from getting wet. This will come in handy during Zodiac trips or if you encounter unexpected rainfall.

Now that you’re ready for the rain, let’s move on to comfortable and sturdy footwear for hiking and walking.

Comfortable and Sturdy Footwear for Hiking and Walking

For a comfortable and enjoyable journey, make sure to have a pair of durable hiking boots and comfortable walking shoes that can withstand the rugged terrains of hiking and walking in these fascinating destinations.

South America and Antarctica offer breathtaking landscapes and unique wildlife encounters, but they also present challenges when it comes to exploring on foot. Whether you’re climbing glaciers in Antarctica or trekking through rainforests in South America, having the right footwear is essential.

Look for boots that are waterproof, insulated, and have a good grip to keep you stable on slippery surfaces. Additionally, pack a pair of comfortable walking shoes for more casual excursions and city strolls.

With the right footwear, you’ll be able to fully immerse yourself in the wonders of these magnificent regions.

Now, let’s talk about warm accessories for cold temperatures.

Warm Accessories for Cold Temperatures

Be sure to grab some warm accessories like hats, gloves, and scarves to protect yourself from the freezing temperatures, as Antarctica can reach average lows of -40 degrees Celsius. In addition to providing warmth, these accessories can also add a touch of style to your winter wardrobe. Stylish winter hats, such as beanies or fur-lined hats, not only keep your head warm but also make a fashion statement. Cozy fleece blankets are perfect for snuggling up in during chilly evenings on the cruise ship or for keeping warm during excursions on land. If you’re planning to explore the beautiful landscapes of Antarctica, it’s essential to stay warm and comfortable. As we prepare for the harsh cold, it’s also important to remember to protect ourselves from the intense Antarctic sunlight, which we’ll discuss in the next section.

Sun Protection Essentials for Antarctic Sunlight

When preparing for the intense Antarctic sunlight, there are a few sun protection essentials to keep in mind. First and foremost, make sure to have your sunglasses, sunscreen, and a wide-brimmed hat. These items will shield you from the harsh rays and help maintain the health of your skin.

Next, consider the right protective clothing options. Opt for long-sleeved shirts and pants made from lightweight, breathable materials that offer UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) coverage. This will ensure that your skin is protected from the sun’s harmful rays while keeping you comfortable in the Antarctic climate.

In addition to clothing, don’t forget about the importance of appropriate sunglasses. Look for sunglasses that provide 100% UV protection and have polarized lenses. These lenses will not only protect your eyes but also reduce glare from the snow and ice, enhancing your visibility in the bright Antarctic sunlight.

Remember, the reflection of sunlight off the ice can be blinding, so proper eye protection is crucial. By taking these precautions, you’ll be well-prepared to enjoy your adventure while keeping yourself safe from the intense Antarctic sunlight.

Now that you’re covered from head to toe, let’s move on to the next essential item for your adventure: binoculars for wildlife spotting.

Binoculars for Wildlife Spotting

Equipped with a pair of binoculars, the world of wildlife in Antarctica comes alive, like a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered. When it comes to wildlife spotting, having the right binoculars can make all the difference.

The best brands for this adventure are those that offer excellent magnification and clarity. Optics from renowned brands such as Nikon, Zeiss, and Swarovski are highly recommended. These binoculars provide a superior viewing experience, allowing you to see every detail of the incredible wildlife.

To make the most of your binoculars, remember to scan the horizon, focusing on areas where wildlife is most likely to be found, such as ice floes or rocky shores. Additionally, be patient and observant, as animals may appear suddenly and disappear just as quickly.

With your trusty binoculars in hand, you’ll be ready to spot penguins, seals, whales, and more in their natural habitats.

Transitioning into the next section, capturing these magical moments on camera requires the right equipment.

Camera and Extra Batteries for Capturing Memories

With a camera in hand and extra batteries at the ready, you’ll be able to capture the breathtaking beauty and unforgettable moments of Antarctica’s wildlife in stunning detail.

When it comes to photography tips for capturing stunning landscapes and wildlife, it’s important to consider the unique lighting conditions on the cruise. In Antarctica, the lighting can vary drastically, from bright sunlight reflecting off the ice to soft, diffused light on overcast days.

To capture the best shots, experiment with different camera settings such as adjusting the exposure compensation and white balance. It’s also recommended to shoot in RAW format to preserve as much detail as possible. Additionally, make use of the camera’s burst mode to capture fast-moving wildlife in action.

Now, let’s transition to the next section about travel documents and essentials.

Travel Documents and Essentials

Don’t forget to bring your passport and other essential travel documents to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey to the icy wonderland of Antarctica. It is important to have a valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining. Additionally, check if you need a visa to enter the countries you will be visiting during the cruise. Travel insurance coverage is also crucial for any unexpected emergencies or cancellations that may occur during your trip. It is recommended to have comprehensive coverage that includes medical expenses and trip cancellation. When it comes to currency, it is advisable to carry some local currency for small expenses, but most places in South America and Antarctica accept major credit cards. Now, let’s move on to the next section about medications and the first aid kit to ensure you’re fully prepared for any health-related situations that may arise.

Medications and First Aid Kit

Make sure you have all the necessary medications and a well-stocked first aid kit for any unexpected health situations that may arise during your adventure in the icy wonderland of Antarctica. When packing for your cruise, it’s important to consider medication storage and the common illnesses that can occur at sea.

Here are some key items to include in your kit:

Prescription medications: Bring an ample supply of any prescription medications you regularly take, as it may be difficult to access them during the cruise.

Over-the-counter medications: Include pain relievers, motion sickness pills, and antihistamines to combat common ailments like headaches, seasickness, and allergies.

First aid supplies: Pack bandages, adhesive tape, antiseptic ointment, and a thermometer to address minor injuries and illnesses.

Remember, proper medication storage is crucial to maintain their effectiveness. Keep them in a cool, dry place and avoid exposing them to extreme temperatures.

With your medical essentials in tow, you can embark on your Antarctic adventure with peace of mind.

Now, let’s move on to sustainable travel items for responsible tourism.

Sustainable Travel Items for Responsible Tourism

To truly embrace ethical tourism practices, consider incorporating sustainable travel items into your expedition to Antarctica. Eco-friendly travel products are not only good for the environment, but they also contribute to responsible tourism.

When packing for your cruise, there are a few sustainable packing tips you should keep in mind. First, opt for reusable items such as a stainless steel water bottle and a reusable shopping bag. These can help reduce waste and minimize your impact on the delicate ecosystems you will encounter.

Second, choose eco-friendly toiletries, like biodegradable shampoo and soap bars, to avoid polluting the pristine waters.

Lastly, pack solar-powered chargers and batteries to reduce your reliance on disposable batteries and minimize energy consumption.

By making these small changes, you can make a big difference in preserving the beauty of Antarctica for future generations.

TUI Group: Shares of the international tourism group return to the Frankfurt Stock Exchange

  • Inclusion in the MDAX expected for 24 June
  • CEO Sebastian Ebel: "As of today, Frankfurt is once again TUI's stock exchange location. We are placing a clear focus on one stock exchange listings instead of two. This step reflects the transformation of the Group. As a brand, TUI is at home in the world, with a strong presence in Europe and in destinations in more than 100 countries around the world, with its headquarters and stock exchange listing in Germany. We want to continue to grow profitably and support this growth and create more value with simpler structures."
  • TUI companies in the UK will remain unaffected by the change in the Group's stock exchange listing and will continue to be key operational core areas for TUI and its guests

After around ten years, the TUI AG share returns to the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange today. TUI Group CEO Sebastian Ebel, together with CFO Mathias Kiep, opened trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by ringing the stock exchange bell in the trading hall. The initial TUI share price was € 7,73. The Group expects to be admitted to the MDAX on 24 June. The listing on the London Stock Exchange will also end then.

Sebastian Ebel, CEO of TUI Group: "Today is a milestone for TUI, reflecting the transformation of the Group. As of today, Frankfurt is our stock exchange again. We are thus placing a clear focus on one stock exchange listing – instead of two previously two. This increases the visibility and attractiveness of our share for our global investors. As a brand, TUI is at home in the world, with a strong presence in Europe and in destinations in more than 100 countries around the world, as well as its headquarters and stock exchange listing in Germany. We want to expand our international presence, continue to grow profitably and support this growth with simpler structures. By doing so, we will create more value for the company, its employees, customers and shareholders."

From a tour operator based in Hanover and Berlin, TUI has successfully developed into a leading global integrated tourism group with five airlines, three cruise lines, internationally renowned hotel brands and around 400 hotels of its own, as well as a platform for experiences and activities. TUI is active worldwide. In the European source markets, TUI advises its customers in more than 1,200 travel agencies as well as via service centers and online sales channels. The integration of over-the-counter distribution with TUI's own travel agencies, franchise partners, independent travel agencies and online distribution guarantees customers a wide range of products and equally high quality advice and individual service. TUI will continue to stand for this in the future.

The future is geared towards profitable growth, with more customers, new products and new markets to be developed. Digitalisation offers many new opportunities for the tourism group. Structures are becoming simpler and leaner where there is no impact on the customer or where customers are relieved supported by technical innovation and digitalisation. Many countries where the TUI brand is already well known, are now exclusively destinations for holidaymakers. "We also want to develop them as local source markets for customers and use the awareness of the TUI brand for new growth," says Sebastian Ebel. In addition, dynamically packaged products and app sales are to drive the Group's growth.

Quality and service in all areas will be expanded and strengthened. This also includes the sustainable transformation of all business segments. TUI has set itself clear targets for reducing emissions for all businesses and has had these targets for 2030 reviewed and confirmed by the independent SBTi initiative.

Mathias Kiep, CFO of TUI Group: "The change of the dual listing structure and the return to the Prime Standard in Frankfurt was a carefully considered decision that was supported by our shareholders with an impressive majority (98.35 percent). With today's step, we are simplifying structures, consolidating liquidity in one trading venue and thus strengthening TUI and its global brand presence. We want to continue to grow successfully and TUI should remain an attractive long-term investment for current and new shareholders."

Since the merger with the former British TUI Travel Plc at the end of 2014, the TUI share has been listed in the premium segment in London, as well as on the regulated market of the Hanover Stock Exchange and on the OTC market in Frankfurt. The decision to list in London in 2014 was a key factor in the successful takeover and integration of the former TUI Travel Plc into TUI Group. However, in the course of the Group's transformation, share custody and liquidity of the TUI share on the stock exchanges have increasingly shifted towards Germany, prompting investors to initiate initial discussions on a change to the dual listing. As announced last year and approved by a large majority at the Group's 65th Annual General Meeting in February 2024, the previous dual listing structure will cease. The change of stock exchange location from London to Frankfurt has no impact on TUI's companies and activities in the UK market. It This market is and will remain a core market for the Group.

Best of Moscow by high speed train

By shuguley , February 15, 2014 in Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Cool Cruiser

Sure would appreciate someone who has taken "Best of Moscow by high speed train" from St. Petersburg could please share their impressions of this shore excursion. From the description this sounds like a very long day.

Wondering how the 4 hour train trip was in terms of accommodations, etc. Also what time did you leave the ship and what time at night did you return? Were both legs of the trip on the high speed rail (I read that slower trains also travel the same tracks)?

My wife and I are considering this excursion. We thought that if we are making all the effort to go to Russia then how could we pass up going to Moscow, walking in Red Square, seeing St. Basil, etc.

If you are considering this on the 2015 June Baltic cruise on Voyager; my suggestion is don't. There is so much to do in St. Petersburg and although a train is one of my favorite ways to travel the time would be far better spent in St. P.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, this would be on the Voyager during the 2015 season but not yet sure exactly which cruise.

5,000+ Club

We did the Moscow excursion "on a different luxury line", but from your brief description it sounds very much like the same trip, so I will operate on that assumption. It is a VERY long day! We left the ship at 5:30 AM and returned at 12:30 AM. The highspeed train trip is comfortable, and while they call it "Business Class" it does not compare well to the equivalent class on say Rail Europe. When we did it in 2011, we did have highspeed both ways, and the trip back seemed much longer as the adrenaline and excitement had worn off!:D

Moscow itself is not that terribly different from any other big city in the world, but this Cold War kid never thought he would ever stand in Red Square, never mind walk the grounds of The Kremlin, or tour The Kremlin Palace, or see (but not visit) Lenin's Tomb, or visit The Armoury. But he did, and he loved every minute of it! Yes, it is a long day, and you barely scratch a scratch on the surface, but it is worth it. There is a tremendous amount to see in St. Petersburg, but every Baltic cruise goes to St. Petersburg, so you can go back if you choose to. Not every cruiseline offers you the chance to see Moscow.

RachelG

I have not personally done this tour, but our last time in St Petersburg, the private guide that we hired for a day was leading the regent tour to Moscow on the high speed train the next day. He said it was way better than the previous alternative, which was flying to Moscow and back. He said that you actually got to Moscow faster because you didn't have to deal with airline checkin etc. it did seem like a very long day to me, and there is so much to see and do in st. Petersburg that I didn't consider doing it.

We toured to Moscow from St. Petersburg via the hi-speed SAPSAN train last September, from a Baltic cruise on the Oceania Marina. You need to have a two-night, three day port call in St. Petersburg to take this tour because the tour typically leaves the ship around 5:00 - 5:30 AM and doesn't return until after midnight the next day. We didn't take the ship's tour; we made private arrangements with TravelAllRussia for three days of touring, the first and third days in St. Petersburg and the second day the tour to Moscow by train. Our cost for the private tour for three days was about the same as what the ship charged for the excursion to Moscow alone. There are a number of private tour agencies that operate in St. Petersburg and offer the Moscow train tours; we would strongly recommend them over the ship's tours.

All three days had private guides with car and driver. The second day, the driver picked us up at the ship and took us to the train, but we were alone on the train, and met in Moscow by the guide on the station platform. After our tour and dinner, we were brought back to the train and after the return train trip met by the driver and taken back to the ship. Because you are alone on the train you must have your own Russian visas.

If this is your first visit to St. Petersburg, I would agree there is much more to see there. We found Moscow somewhat a disappointment, particularly Red Square. The Kremlin and the cathedral in Red Square were also worth seeing. But the best thing we saw was the Moscow subway! I worked for the Washington Metro system back in the 1980s as it grew from 40 to 80 miles and although I was in the computer area, I learned a lot about the challenges of running a subway system. We used the Moscow system to get across the city from where we had dinner to the train station, and I was amazed at the cleanliness', speed of operation, the short headways maintained, and the courtesy of everyone involved. A very impressive experience!

We had been to St. Petersburg before, and so had the time to take a day and go to Moscow. Also, I really like trains, and the SAPSAN is a German train set running on Russian rails. Seats are like first class domestic air, spacious but not too plush or comfortable, but with enough room. Not too much recline, and almost 8 hours on the train in two shots is a lot for an old man. They come through and sell drinks, candy, etc. but the sellers don't speak English and no one around us helped, so we had just poor coffee once coming, and brought stuff with us for the trip back. Not too much to see from the train either, particularly on the return when it is night the whole way.

If you decide to go, take a private tour and avoid the overly expensive ship's tour. I'm glad we did it, but wouldn't bother to repeat the tour; we've seen Moscow.

Thanks so much to all of you for the thorough and thought insight. Yhe information you have provided is most helpful.

countflorida: Your detailed post is very helpful. We are not quite ready for a Baltic cruise but should do so within a year. Time enough to do our pre travel research, bookings and visa gathering.:) Thank you!

Basil, etc.

I did this on Seabourn. IMO DONT. Take Aeroflop (er Aeroflot). The train has non folding seats where you are literally knee to knee with your fellow passenger (facing each other). Further they don't believe in air conditioning. It's also the worlds slowed bullet train. I think I would have found more enjoyment wandering around the St. Petersburg and Moscow airports.

Countflorida,

This is a little off topic,, however we had planned a river cruise in Russia but decided we would rather stay on land and have booked about two weeks with Travel-All-Russia using the private guide and driver. I'm curious as to how you found them as a tour company.

The guides they provided were fine. We had a different guide each of the days in St. Petersburg, but both were flexible, pleasant, knowledgeable and spoke English very well, as did the guide in Moscow, incidentally. She was a bit aloof, distant, not too friendly, but otherwise fine. In fact, she was the one who suggested taking the Metro, which unexpectedly became one of the highlights of the Moscow excursion. If I have a complaint with AllTravelRussia, it is with their plan and its execution (more later).

I had requested emphasis on World War II (in Russia, the Great Patriotic War) sites and info. In scheduling us, they weren't careful about dates and a couple of the sites we wanted to see were scheduled on the third day, after we'd been to Moscow. But both sites were closed that day of the week, and that info was readily available, right on web sites describing them. Also, the included meals (lunches in St. Pete, dinner in Moscow) were not what we asked for: light meals with some choices, so we could avoid things we didn't like and choose things we did like. My request was ignored; we were given full Russian meals with a fixed menu, no choice. On the first day, a fish dish was the entre, but I am allergic to fish. Fortunately, I had the e-mail I'd sent with me and showed it to the guide, and she was able to change my entre to chicken, which was very good actually. But we didn't want a 3-4 course lunches or dinner (in Moscow). We had the guide drop the lunch the third day, although we never got any credit or refund. But, particularly in contrast to the ship's tours, the prices were so reasonable we didn't worry too much about it.

The people who were on the ship's tour to Moscow saw us boarding the same train for which they were forced to queue up and wait on the way back, and asked us what we had done. I was candid and open so they were not happy when I explained what we had arranged and particularly what it had cost. Also, when we returned to the ship, we found they had laid on a late supper for those who had gone to Moscow, so up we went and had something. Well, it turns out the late supper was supposed to be just for those on the ship's tour, but we and others on 'independent' tours, there were a dozen or more of us, crashed the party, actually got there first, and they didn't realize it until the larger group arrived and there weren't enough tables/places set. By that time, the 'independents' had all gotten served and were eating; what could they do?

A couple from the larger group sat down with us and asked us about our tour, and they were the ones I told about our arrangement and its cost. They turned to others who’d been with them and announced the details, loudly enough so the whole room heard, which started a lot of bitching and complaining. I gathered they weren't very happy with the ship's tour to begin with, and this was the straw that broke the camel's back. We finished up and beat it out of there, but overheard later that one of the excursion staff came to check on something and ran into a real mess. I caught a cold on the trip, which forced me to bed the second day following in Tallinn, so by the time we reappeared we heard about the contretemps' but apparently no one recalled who started it, thankfully.

Because of what happened to us, I would probably not use AllTravelRussia if I were to go again, or if I did, I would be sure to get confirmation of every detail of the tour. They do have good reviews generally, and we were certainly helped by their visa department and liked the guides and drivers. Their weakness, I say now with full 20:20 hindsight, is that once the sales person who plans the tour, sells it to you and collects your money, he (or she) transfers the plan to their Russia office for implementation; there is no follow-up to make sure it gets done right. And that is where our problems arose; we paid for a custom tour but got a standard package with a few destinations switched, and no one checked them out, even to see when they were open the day we were scheduled to go. If you check every detail that’s important to you, it should be OK, but that’s a hell of a way to have to do business, in my opinion.

Thank you for the 20/20 hindsight observation on your Russian tour operator, and better priced than the ship's excursion cost.

Thanks very much for the feedback.

We had the same experience as you so far as price. We originally booked a Viking Cruise but, hearing some things about the river cruises that made us unhappy, looked into other options. T-A-R cost the same or less than a cruise and had us in hotels for 11 days. We opted for the private tour. They have three tour levels, based on hotels. We originally opted for the four star as it did not cost much more than the three star hotels. Finally we decided to throw it all in and upgraded to five star. In Moscow we will be at the newly opened Kempinsky which is two blocks from Red Square. In St. Petersburg it is the Grand Hotel Europe, one of the most vaunted luxury hotels in Russia. Location is important for us as the tours use up only part of the day so being in the center of everything for our independent touring is important. As with many other cities, the less you pay, the farther out of the center of town you are.

We have been working with our salesman in D.C. and he seems to get back to us with the changes we want. He recently returned from Russia so is up on everything. When I asked they said they paid the full TA commission if I wanted so I got my usual TA on board so he is watching our back and giving us that extra level of comfort. He also set up our air, which I know pays him little or nothing, and got us business class for much less than T-A-R wanted for economy, though it took working for a while with a consolidator. He's happy to get his 10 percent on this trip without having booked it. He also took care of the trip insurance. We've been doing a lot of research on the CC sister site Trip Advisor and will write a report there. We will, I guess, become a source of info for CC members after having spent 5 days in Moscow and 6 in SP.
