Without reservation, I highly recommend TJ Travel for small group tours in all Baltic Sea ports. Agents were very knowledgeable and responsive to my queries, itineraries were well-planned and comprehensive (recognizing our time constraints in each port), and our guides were knowledgeable, enthusiastic, flexible, patient and well-spoken.

Firstly my apologies for taking so long to respond to your letter. I was sick on my return to Australia and it has taken time to catch up with everything.

To start with  Victoria was always there to guide us through the booking process. I would send off an enquiry at night and the answer would be there when I woke up.

We just wanted to write and thank Tatiana so much for an unbelievable one-day tour. Once our ship, Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas, came into port Wednesday morning 8-Aug, we found it very easy to go through immigration and locate our TJ Travel group as explained in the instructions.

Hello TJ Travel, My wife Jan and I recently visited your city on the Sapphire Princess cruise ship (about 3 weeks ago.) We bought a private tour for the 2 days we were there and had the pleasure of working with Renat and Elizabeth for both days. It was not only the highlight of our cruise, but the best escorted tour of any kind we have ever had.

Booked our 2 day tour with TJ Travel after reading such great reviews here on TripAdvisor and Oh are we glad we did. From initial e-mail to drop off at ship we couldn't ask for better.

Met after we came through immigration from our cruise liner by Lisa and shown onto our Minibus. There were 14 of us which was a perfect group size. Lisa spoke excellent English and her knowledge of the sites we were taken to was phenomenal!

Hello Just want you to know how delighted we were with TJ Travels 'Best of the Baltic' tours. We were on the cruise ship Regal Princess and the instructions given us to meet with your representatives were very clear and we had no trouble at all making contact with our guides. As your tours were small groups, I think we had 14 at most, it was a welcome change fr om the cruise ship tours wh ere you are usually in groups of up to 42.

We LOVED our TJ Travel's tour with the marvelous Ksenya. We were upgraded from the standard tour because the only others on the tour that day from our ship were my brother and his girlfriend, so it made sense to combine us (and it was more fun for us).

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable - she shared both the history of this incredible city as well as her own experiences. We were accommodated with booking a tour only two days before our arrival - TJ Travel arranged for a driver to pick us up at our hotel to join a 2-day cruise ship shore excursion. 

Our guide was called Michael and was brilliant, his knowledge was second to none, not only of the places of interest we visited but was able to answer question on virtually any other subject. He spoke perfect English, French and Russian. The itinerary was just had we of hoped, including all the major sights with the bonus of the Faberge museum which was wonderful.

Our guide was Sofia, and the driver was Kosta. Sofia was a wealth of information, and very helpful, no question too hard, and while she had a very noticeable accent, her English was quite good. Kosta was an excellent, safe driver and we felt well taken care of.

TJ is one of the most frequently recommended companies here.  If you use the "search" function I'm sure you will find many positive reviews on this forum.  We are planning to use them this coming June.

we used them last year and they are one of top recommended companies

most St Petersburg private tour companies do a great job-they have to-with the visa free tour they cant afford to get it wrong or their reputation would suffer

In general, all of the companies you see referred to on this board are very professional and you'll love your visit to St. Petersburg. I've used two of the companies myself (SPB on my first trip and Red Sun Tours on my most recent trip this past summer), and everything was so easy to set up and so amazing once we were there. Have fun!

We just set up a two day St. Petersburg tour with TJ Tours for July. They were very easy to deal with and got back to us right away. 

We used them in SPB a few years ago.  They were excellent in all regards.  I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.  We were a private tour for the 8 of us.  They modified their usual stops to include a few my daughters wanted to see, and found us good restaurants for lunch and dinner.

We recommend them highly...Amazing VIP tour we had with just the two of us a guide and driver.

TJ Travel came highly recommended to us from some cruisers on our last cruise.

We have been in contact with TJ Travel about a more slow paced tour of St. Petersburg.  We were disappointed that they have discontinued their 2 day relaxed tour and are now suggesting their 2 day standard tour.  This tour does not go to St. Catherine's Palace (Amber Room) nor does it do a little metro ride to see the beautiful subway.  They gave us a lengthy reason for not doing St. Catherine"s Palace which boiled down to lack of organization at this site.  They would do the metro if all on the tour agreed to do it but since there is no wheelchair access it might not be possible if there were wheelchair or scooter users on the tour.

Sadly no, not with TJ Tour.  This was their response when I inquired about the metro.

Subway visit is not included in this tour as it is suitable for wheelchair users and our metro is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. Kindly note that Relaxed tour didn't include metro visit neither. However, if all the members of your group are able to stand up/walk short distances and also would like to visit metro, it can be added during the tour.

I used TJ this spring. Immediately after lunch our guide asked if the group wanted to visit the metro. It had to be a majority or all(I don't recall which).Since only a few wanted, there was no metro visit.

Later in the day the tour van stopped for a second shopping opportunity. A few of us, not wishing to shop, stayed in the van for almost 25 minutes. I don't see why if your group agrees to a metro visit, and some choose not to participate, they cannot stay on the van as we non shoppers did. I would email and ask TJ but remember the group that day must agree to visit the metro.

We used TJ Tours a few years past and were very impressed with the quality of the tours as well as the value. We picked up a package from them that included 5 or 6 ports and all were very organized and had professional english speaking guides. I have recommended them to many friends and they have never disappointed!

I have been chatting with TJ tours this morning.  The premium tour allows for the subway visit and St. Catherine’s Palace. This tour is advertised as intense walking, so definitely not the slower tour.  

We booked this tour for July.  It has changed from the 2019 tours. It appears more comprehensive.  

But I would ask your questions  for sure.

Boy this is an old thread  I don’t even remember the post I made in 2019.   

Anyway, back to topic, TJ travels.  I have not heard back from them in over 2 weeks.  In December, I was having email exchanges with them.  I wonder if the company is on some type of holiday?   I also read there is a holiday ongoing now until January 10.  

Anybody have input?

Russian Orthodox Christmas Holidays.   The Russian Orthodox Church uses the Julian calendar, making December 25 equal to January 7 in the Gregorian calendar.

 Were you able to take the tour, and if so, how intense was it?  Do I need cardio training or just a comfy pair of shoes? 🙂  

@Milaandra  this tour was booked for 2020, so we never went.  We have now booked for 2022.

We have booked the 2-day Premium tour through Tatyana at TJ Tours.  Our initial inquires & ultimately making the reservation was very smooth.  Unfortunately, 4 of our companions cancelled the cruise for May leaving us to join another group.  I emailed TJ Tours last night and this morning, Tatyana responded saying that she will work on including us with another group.  I have found Tatyana very responsive and willing to accommodate and I am confident that it will be resolved.   

Fantastic company to deal with and our St Petersburg tour was the real highlight of our Baltic cruise.

Baltic Sea Captal Tours

Our group choose the package that TJTravel offered for the 5 Baltic Sea Ports, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Estonia Tallinn, St.Petersburg, Berlin. Our first port stop we were shaky about TJTravel,even though the reviews were all wonderful we had yet to have any tours with them. All of our fears and concerns were put to rest when a smiling face, with the TJ Travel sign appeared outside of the port, with a shiny new Mercedes Benz waiting to take us on our tour of Copenhagen. The tour guide spoke better English than some of our American friends and the driver knew all of the short cuts to get us through the traffic with the greatest of east. Resting back on ship our thoughts turned to our next port, Stockholm, of course wondering how this tour would be. Much to our surprise, we were met with a similar team and coach with an outstanding tour. Each of our ports were wonderful. Our tour guides knew all of the ins and outs, which allowed us to see twice as much as the large coach tours with a much lower price. TJ Travel took put the known into our unknown. when travelling we expect experiences that will broaden our mind and impress. My trip to St Petersburg went several steps further leaving me with a lasting memory of the grandeur and historical significance of this amazing city. My experience was enhanced by the TJ travel company with information and guidance cheerfully given by guides. A flawless itinerary with access to areas without the long queues was a magical experience . I was impressed by the professionalism and coordination of the two day tour of the city and with a customised evening event that allowed me to meet a local family for dinner. What has remained with me more than all this is the passion and national pride that the tour operators displayed in an authentic and warm manner. We were 4 couples off a cruise ship in St P and hired a guide, small van and driver through TJ Travel to lead us for the 2 days ~9AM to 5PM including 'typical' lunches. Guide Irina Avdeeva was exceptional in efficient logistics, pre-purchased admission tickets where required and front of the line access if required, to give us a glorious taste of all that St P has to offer. Her language teacher background offered great conversational skill along with her indepth knowledge about the art and architecture we were seeing. Thank you Thank you!

Absolutely AMAZING. Our guide and driver during the two day excursion were very professional and obliging. We would not hesitate in organising excursions with TJ Tours rather than using ship's excursion. Very good value for money.

We don't tend to use tour companies, preferring to go by ourselves wherever possible. However, sometimes circumstances mean that a tour is the best option, and that was certainly the case for us in St Petersburg due to visa requirements. After some research, we decided that the standard two day tours weren't going to be the best option for us. Firstly, they included some places that we weren't interested in and missed others that we liked. In addition, as we had our 11 year old son with us, we know from experience that his initial enthusiasm with a place can wane after a while. So, we listed the places that we really wanted to see and contacted TJ Travel about putting together a one day itinerary for us. We received a reply within about 30 minutes with a suggested itinerary and pricing. It really was exceptional service. Fast forward to our arrival, and we met Alla, our guide and Gennady the driver and set off into town. Alla was quite simply the best tour guide that we have ever encountered. It felt like we were being shown around the city by a very knowledgeable friend, and Gennady was always there to pick us up after visiting a location. As we were by ourselves, we were able to tweak the schedule as necessary (for example our son needed a toilet break) without having to worry about other people. The standard tours offered by TJ are a lot better than the cruise ship tours as they will only have a dozen or so people, but being by ourselves was even better. We were also able to make some very quick photo stops without having to wait for everyone else to get back in the vehicle. In our one day we visited Peterhof (via hydrofoil), had a ride on the subway, went inside Peter and Paul fortress and Church on Spilled Blood, as well as having a full tour of the city with many photo stops, had time for lunch and some shopping. All with Alla giving us background information about what we were seeing. I would have no hesitation in recommending TJ Travel to anyone visiting St Petersburg. The standard tours will be just right for most people, but we really enjoyed doing our own itinerary. It was a bit more expensive per day than a tour with a larger group, but well worth it and, for us, it meant that we were able to fit what we wanted into the one day, giving us the second day to relax whilst everyone else was still out and about. Our son really enjoyed his day in St Petersburg as well. Much more so than if we had dragged him round the Hermitage, for example.

I picked this tour company in St. Petersburg because it was less expensive and covered many of the same sites. Also I wasn't sure if I was physically capable of two days of non-stop touring and their tour seemed a little shorter than the others. Nina, our guide, met us right outside, after the 1/2 hour wait to clear passport control in Russia (on the second day passport control took less than 5 minutes). She introduced us to Boris, our driver, and our group of 11 boarded the new small van and were whisked around for 2 days. Nina was an excellent tour guide and was very attentive to our personal needs (bathrooms, lunch, water, etc.). On the first day I spilled my purse in the van and thought I picked up everything. The next morning Nina announced that Boris had found a credit card in the van and it turned out to be mine. I was very grateful to Boris for finding that card and returning it to me. That could have been a nightmare. I was able to pay for the tour in US dollars, and they also took credit cards, Rubles and Euros. Everything was taken care of and we all had a fantastic time! I would highly recommend this tour company and Nina and Boris!

Booked tj tours for trip to the baltics august 2015. Went to saint petersburg, sweden, finland and estonia with tj tours and had a really great time. Took us to all the main sites as only had a short time to see everthing. Everything was covered by the tour company and no hassles were encountered.

We followed their advice for getting through immigration and the bus and staff were there to meet us. We had a good group of 10 so there was plenty of room on the bus. They supplied a bottle of water each day. We were well informed by the tour guide and she knew any extra points to help us get around faster, though there aren't any short cuts in this country. Of course, two days is not enough to see everything, but we had chosen the tour to get around as many places as possible while our ship was in St Petersburg. We would have liked time to peruse postcards or souvenirs at each place but we understand the schedule. We didn't pay until the very end of the tour and the 'office' was in a souvenir shop so we had time there. I would recommend this company as the small group, price and number of places visited was great.

The siblings in our family were going to Sweden from Canada for a wedding last August 1st (which was the nicest wedding we've attended). We figured that the time spent to go there we might as well make the most of it and did a Baltic Cruise with Royal Caribbean the week before. Most port stops were your basic tour. As Russia (St. Petersburg) needs more effort and Visas I emailed TJ Travel (recommended by a friend) long before going and arranged our excursion. We decided on the private Two-Day All Highlights excursion. We had 3 couples, our tour guide (Nina) and our driver (Nicolas). With the aid of the wireless headphones we could hear every work that Nina said, and that was a lot. She is the most knowledgeable guide that I have ever seen. Our entire family loved her. Nicolas was the best driver anyone in our group has seen. They park everywhere in St. Petersburg and there are streets that none of us would even thing of attempting to get through. Nicolas drove like an expert without getting anywhere near all the vehicles on the side of the road. He also found the closest spot to drop us off and was always right there to pick us up. Along with being a walking encyclopedia, Nina quickly got the tickets to our venue (included in the price) and took us into the museum/church/etc. bypassing the long lineups. We all rated this excursion "Perfect" even though we couldn't take the hydrofoil ride due to the weather...certainly not TJ Tour's fault. If you have a chance to go to St. Petersburg you MUST let TJ show you the city. Even though you'll get overloaded with historical information you will love it and the tour company. Tatanya, you and your company should be very proud. You operate the best run tour company that anyone in our group has seen before, and we all travel quite a bit. We may do this same cruise in a few years with other friends and will certainly contact TJ Tours again. Thank you for such an fun and excellent experience.

My husband and I took a tour in St. Petersburg with TJ Travel. It was very professional. Very well planned out and comfortable transportation. The restaurants were also good. Our tour guide moved us in and out of the crowds much better than the tour guides around us. She was very knowledgable. The only thing I would change is that they take you to 1 certain store each day. Not the best priced stores.. I am sure they get some type of commision.

Method 1 - Prepayment with Credit Card (suggested)

• Credit Card payments made through our online portal are settled in US Dollars (USD) . We accept Visa or MasterCard.
• Online payments are possible at any point leading up to your cruise through your Customer Area. We do not charge credit card fees!
• Prepayments are fully refundable up to 72 hours before your group excursion and up to 1 month before your private excursion* *Exception: SAPSAN Train tickets to Moscow are not refundable once purchased.
• We can accept multiple credit card payments from multiple people in your party. Click here for more info .
• If you are not booked with us in St. Petersburg, this is the only available payment method.

Method 2 - Credit card on-site in St. Petersburg

• Credit card payments made on-site in St. Petersburg are settled in American Dollars (USD) . We can accept Visa or MasterCard upon arrival in St. Petersburg.
• Your remaining balance is to be paid in St. Petersburg, even if it is not your first port with us.
• We do not charge credit card fees, but your bank might.
• Especially on busy days, on-site payment collection can be time-consuming. Our suggestion is to pay with Method 1. 
• On-site credit card payment is only available in St. Petersburg, not elsewhere.

Whether you prepay in full or select to pay later, you may cancel your booking up to 72 hours before the tour with no charge. If you cancel between 72h-24h before the tour, the deposit will be withheld. Cancellations made with less than 24h notice or no-shows are not entitled to a refund.
