How To Fix Cloudflare Error 1015: You Are Being Rate Limited (Fast)

' src=

The Cloudflare rate-limiting feature is designed to protect online services against different types of user attacks.

In certain situations, Cloudflare can block valid requests resulting in an error message that looks something like this:

Cloudflare 1015 Rate Limited Error 2

What is Cloudflare Error 1015: You Are Being Rate Limited?

When a user comments that they’ve seen error 1015, Cloudflare is rate-limiting their connection. This means the rate-limited device is temporarily blocked from connecting for a short time. When this happens there’s no way for the visitor to access the domain until the error times out.

The 1015 error often causes users to bounce from a site entirely.

A smart website owner will act to resolve 1015 errors as quickly as possible to keep the traffic flowing.

(Don’t need the whole rundown about rate limiting? Click here to go straight to the solutions)

What is Rate Limiting?

Since lots of requests in a short period of time can overload a website, Cloudflare lets a site owner monitor and control your bandwidth consumption.

You can limit the impact of high-volume traffic by setting up a “rate-limiting” rule on a per-IP address or domain basis through the Cloudflare rate-limiting feature in your website owner settings.

With rate limiting, Cloudflare can automatically block traffic from a suspicious site visitor or IP address so that hackers, spammers, and other online pests are can’t bog down your site’s performance with DDoS attacks and other illicit activities.

How to Fix Cloudflare Error 1015: You Are Being Rate Limited

  • Slow Down Your Activity
  • Disable Rate Limiting
  • Delete Your Old Rate Limiting Configuration
  • Raise Your Rate Limiting Request Threshold
  • Check the Time Restrictions On Your Rate Limits
  • Consider Increasing Your Bandwidth
  • Optimize Your Website
  • Reach Out to the Cloudflare Support Community

Cloudflare Error 1015: “You are being rate limited” results from one of a few possible causes.

Most frequently, when a legitimate site visitor is being blocked by the rate-limiting error 1015 it’s due to issues with the rate-limiting configuration that only the site owner can fix.

Even in cases where the user may be sending lots of legitimate requests quickly, your web server needs to be configured to handle increased visitor traffic loads.

Let’s explore the different root causes that result in the Cloudflare rate-limiting error and how to troubleshoot those issues.

BTW a quick note— there’s actually a cache purge error code labeled 1015 in Cloudflare that’s unrelated to the rate-limiting problem.

“Unable to purge” is a separate 1015 error code that has to with Cloudflare cache purge. If this sounds more like the information you need, check out Cloudflare’s cache purge tips here .

1. Slow Down Your Activity

Sometimes, the fix is as simple as telling your users to take it easy and slow down their clicks.

When you interact with a website, each action you take demands a portion of the website’s resources.

The site can slow down (or crash) if its traffic isn’t managed. Cloudflare rate-limiting identifies and mitigates excessive request rates to the domain to avoid these slowdowns.

Except in unusually rare cases, your server should be configured to handle regular visitor traffic & activity such that high volumes of requests don’t lock them out of your website or app.

Slowing down user behavior on your website is only a temporary stop-gap you can use while you take steps to improve your Cloudfare rate limiting configuration and firewall rules.

2. Disable Rate Limiting

I wouldn’t usually say to turn off Cloudflare’s rate-limiting, but if you do, it’ll let visitor traffic move smoothly without any stops.

If your website is throwing a lot of Cloudflare 1015 errors and it’s halting your business, you can open up your website to all traffic from any allowed IP address by disabling the rate limit rules altogether.

Remember—this may potentially expose your website to slowdowns or crashes as a result of high-volume requests or DDoS attacks.

A good site owner will only apply this solution as a first step towards optimizing their Cloudflare rate limiting configuration.

3. Delete Your Old Rate Limiting Configuration

Even after turning off rate limiting, you might hear that folks are still bumping into the 1015 error on your site.

In rare cases, your rate limit rules can still work even though the rate-limiting feature is disabled for the domain.

To ensure your rate limiting is properly turned off you can re-enable the rate-limiting feature in your site owner settings, entirely delete all of your rate limiting rules, and then disable rate limiting again.

4. Raise Your Rate Limiting Request Threshold

A very low limit is one of the most common causes of Cloudflare error 1015.

The site owner settings allow us to limit the number of page requests from an IP address in a given time interval. In most cases, users assume that each pageview on the website is equal to one request.

However, this is false—an individual pageview might feed as many as 50 or more requests to your server in just a few seconds, especially if the visitor is using a reverse proxy or has recently performed a cache purge.

Limiting the value of request based on this misinterpretation is a frequent cause of the 1015 error.

If your website is rate limited by a low request threshold, try disabling this rate limit in your account settings or significantly increasing the limit.

5. Check the Time Restrictions On Your Rate Limits

Another common mistake is setting a rate-limiting rule to block an IP address for multiple requests inside of 10 seconds.

This may cause legitimate traffic to experience unnecessary lockouts when users should have full rights to access your site.

Cloudflare support experts recommend you should configure the rate-limiting rules on your account to 10 seconds or more.

This isn’t always a default setting, and issues commonly arise when a site owner accidentally miskeys a “1” instead of the correct 10 seconds for this configuration

Check that your Cloudflare rate limit times are sufficiently high enough to allow normal volume from everyone using your site at the same time, or else your users will see more Cloudflare 1015 errors.

6. Consider Increasing Your Bandwidth

Cloudflare’s safeguards, like the rate limit, kick in based on how heavy the traffic is or how folks are using your app.

As the site owner, if you expect to receive the 1015 error message on a regular basis in response to traffic or expect your application to incur this error, contact Cloudflare support to increase your limit.

7. Optimize Your Website

Cookies saved in your visitor’s browser help the visitor load content using fewer requests. But if the cookies and cache have been cleared out, the browser will have to reload all of the site information again.

A poorly-designed or poorly-optimized site is one of the reasons you might see more page errors being thrown at legitimate IP addresses.

Some issues your customers may report include:

  • Regularly having to refresh articles and posts on your site
  • Having to clear their cache & cookies each time they access a given URL
  • Slow page loading times

Repeatedly having to refresh, reload, and revisit a section of site each time you access it causes a significant spike in request traffic to your servers.

If you’re getting any of these complaints, then you need to ensure each part of your site is loading properly and serving the visitor’s browser with appropriate cache & cookie information.

A properly optimized website will help reduce the request load allowing your community to use your site error-free.

8. Reach Out to the Cloudflare Support Community

If these tips don’t help you identify and resolve the causes of the 1015 error code on your domain servers, app, or program, the Cloudflare support team is always there to help.

Cloudflare offers several support articles and its community forum to help you solve problems with your configuration, and if you pay for a support contract they can help you via email or live phone support.

If you or your site owner uses Cloudflare’s service for free accounts you can still use the robust community forums.

Did You Know?

  • Immigrants Make Up a Significant Percentage of the U.S. Workforce: Did you know that immigrants play a major role in the U.S. workforce? According to the Migration Policy Institute, as of 2018, immigrants accounted for approximately 17% of the total U.S. civilian workforce. They contribute to various sectors, including healthcare, technology, agriculture, and construction, among others.

The United States Has a Long History of Immigration: Immigration to the United States is not a recent phenomenon. In fact, the country has a rich history of immigration dating back centuries. From the early colonial period to the present day, waves of immigrants from different parts of the world have shaped the cultural and ethnic diversity of the United States.

Diversity Visa Lottery: Every year, the United States Diversity Visa (DV) lottery program provides an opportunity for individuals from countries with historically low immigration rates to have a chance at obtaining permanent residency. The program allocates 50,000 visas through a randomized selection process, offering a unique pathway for immigration to the United States.

Temporary Protected Status: Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is a program established by the U.S. government to provide temporary relief and protection to eligible individuals from certain countries experiencing ongoing armed conflict, natural disasters, or other extraordinary conditions. TPS grants individuals the ability to reside and work legally in the United States until the conditions in their home country improve.

Language Diversity: The United States is a linguistically diverse country, with over 350 languages spoken by its residents. While English is the most widely spoken language, other commonly spoken languages include Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, French, Arabic, and Korean, among others. This linguistic diversity reflects the nation’s history of immigration and cultural integration.

Refugees and Asylum Seekers : The United States is a key destination for refugees and asylum seekers fleeing persecution, violence, or other forms of harm in their home countries. The U.S. Refugee Admissions Program provides a pathway for refugees to seek protection and resettlement in the United States, while asylum seekers present themselves at the U.S. border or within the country to seek protection under international humanitarian law.

Naturalization Process: Becoming a U.S. citizen through naturalization is a significant milestone for many immigrants. To qualify for naturalization, immigrants must meet certain requirements, including a period of lawful permanent residency, knowledge of English and U.S. civics, and good moral character. Once naturalized, individuals gain the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship.

Family-Based Immigration: Family reunification is a cornerstone of the U.S. immigration system. U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents can sponsor their immediate relatives, including spouses, parents, and unmarried children, for immigration to the United States. Family-based immigration helps strengthen family bonds and contributes to the social fabric of the nation.

Contributions of Immigrant Entrepreneurs: Immigrants have long been an integral part of America’s entrepreneurial spirit. Many iconic U.S. companies, including Google, Tesla, and Intel, were co-founded by immigrant entrepreneurs. These visionary individuals have not only created jobs but also driven innovation and economic growth, making significant contributions to the United States.

Dreamers and DACA: The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, established in 2012, provides temporary relief from deportation and work authorization to eligible individuals who were brought to the United States as children. Known as Dreamers, these individuals have grown up in the United States and consider it their home, contributing to their communities and aspiring to achieve their dreams.

Remember, immigration is a complex and multifaceted topic. Exploring these lesser-known facts not only enhances our understanding of the subject but also promotes a more inclusive and informed discussion about immigration’s impact on society.

How To Fix Cloudflare Error 1015 “You Are Being Rate Limited”

us travel docs error 1015

Lee Stanton Lee Stanton is a versatile writer with a concentration on the software landscape, covering both mobile and desktop applications as well as online technologies. Read more July 21, 2023

Cloudflare is designed to boost the security of many websites and applications, safeguarding users’ data and protecting the sites from cyber-attacks. However, mishaps happen, and users can be banned from accessing a website by mistake. Depending on the nature of the site, website owners may notice fewer visitors are clicking on their pages.

How To Fix Cloudflare Error 1015

Less online traction can result in steep financial losses.

Site owners need a practical solution that will allow them to run their websites smoothly. Luckily, there are several methods for bypassing the rate-limiting error. Continue reading to learn what Cloudflare’s “error 1015” means and the best ways to resolve it.

Error 1015 You Are Being Rate Limited

Cloudflare’s background processes prevent hackers from getting past the site’s firewall and keep it from crashing due to increased traffic. But Cloudflare’s preventive measures might also affect how the site responds to user actions.

Sometimes certain user actions can trigger “error 1015” and block them from entering the site. Frequent login attempts with incorrect information and refreshing the page several times may bar users from going to a website. After a short waiting period, they’ll regain access and will be able to navigate the site with no further issues. However, when the issue persists, the problem may lie with the site’s Cloudflare configuration.

If many website visitors report encountering the “error 1015” window, the pop-up message informs them that the site owner has banned them from accessing the page. This means that your web pages cannot process a sudden influx of access requests.

Slightly tweaking your site and modifying the Cloudflare setpoints will upgrade the request processing speed. The pages will become more user-friendly and handle more page requests without crashing or freezing.

How to Fix Error 1015 You Are Being Rate Limited Cloudflare

There are several ways to fix this error, and most of them involve tweaking your Cloudflare website or app protection settings to provide a better user experience.

Lower User Activity Speed

Whenever a user visits a website, the page needs time and resources to answer their request. When multiple users interact with the site simultaneously, its pages require more support to avoid shutting down. Rate-limiting analyzes user activity and prevents repeated requests from reaching the domain. It can also slow its operation.

For example, someone can try submitting their phone number to your website several times because they’ve forgotten the digit order. The website registers this as potentially suspicious activity and will put the person in a virtual timeout. The ban will expire in about 15 minutes, and the user will have full access to the site.

While rate-limiting keeps websites from slacking, it can deter users from coming back. Other solutions enable site owners to increase the sites’ request volumes and satisfy even the most impatient users.

us travel docs error 1015

Disable the Website’s Rate Limiting

If the frequent appearance of “error 1015” is hurting your business or search engine rankings, you have the option of turning off rate-limiting on your app or website.

Visitors won’t have to deal with sudden pop-up messages, but keep in mind that switching off rate-limiting could potentially damage your site too. Without that extra protective barrier, the app or website may struggle to handle more user requests. Additionally, hackers will encounter less resistance when attempting to infiltrate the site’s infrastructure.

It’s best to treat this method as a temporary solution until you’ve established the best rate-limiting set points for optimal web performance.

Wipe the Current Rate Limiting Settings

Switching off rate-limiting will usually enable unlimited web traffic flow. However, sometimes the domain can continue to operate on the previously established Cloudflare configurations. In that case, the site owner will have to wipe these settings to remove access restrictions manually. To do so:

  • Check whether you’ve disabled access bans.
  • Reinstate the request restrictions again using your site owner Cloudflare account.
  • Delete all rate-limiting regulations.
  • Switch of rate-limiting again.

Once you’ve deleted these configurations, the site or app will be open to users from all over the world using different IP addresses. They’ll be able to make as many web requests as they want without being locked out.

Increase the Number of Requests the Website Can Process

Most people assume that entering a website accounts for a one-page request, but that’s not the case. The site will read a single page visit as at least 50 requests to grant users access to all its features. This number drastically increases if users have cleared their cache or cookies information.

Responsible site owners understand how page visits work and set a higher request threshold so that all users can have a glitch-free experience. The Cloudflare owner account allows you to view your request threshold settings and modify them accordingly so that they can support heavier web traffic. When the app or site implements these changes, it will stop issuing frequent “error 1015” messages.

Modify the Time Limit

A narrow time frame could also bar users from making legitimate site requests.

Enabling the site to block users who have interacted with a page several times within ten seconds will make the website less user-friendly. It will stonewall most interactions, processing only a small number of user requests.

Cloudflare’s customer support team suggests that you establish a time limit of ten seconds or longer. This extended period enables multiple users to view the site simultaneously without denying web access.

Increase Bandwidth Support

If your site cannot process large amounts of data, it will resort to locking out users to recover and continue working correctly. When you expect the site will generate a lot of traffic with many returning visitors, you should consider upping your bandwidth.

Providing the pages with more resources will minimize access interruptions and provide optimal data transmission between the site and its users.

Website Optimization

An outdated website design might also cause issues for visitors trying to enter the site. Pages with slow loading speeds force users to repeatedly refresh their browsers and wipe cache data whenever they click on the site’s URL. Unable to respond to these requests, the site prevents visitors from using its features.

The site should be optimized to meet the latest industry standards and offer users sufficient cache support to avoid these problems.

Community Support

Cloudflare provides its users with a rich library of resources to resolve various errors. While the methods we mentioned are effective, you should keep an eye on Cloudflare’s Community section. Other website and app owners post their experiences and how they’ve strengthened their online presence. It’s an excellent place for finding solutions to issues you might face in the future.

Provide Website Visitors With an Error-Free Experience

Cloudflare works hard to give its users top-quality service by shielding their websites from suspicious activity and cyber attacks. However, their measures sometimes negatively impact user experience and block legitimate visitors from using the site. The good news is that there are several ways for adjusting your Cloudflare protection so that visitors won’t encounter an unprompted “error 1015” message.

This article has outlined how to make your website more user-friendly by adjusting Cloudflare rate-limiting.

Have you experienced rate-limiting problems with your website? How did you resolve the issue? Let us know in the comment section below.

I have received the email from nvc that they sent my case to the Prague embassy yesterday morning. I already had the ustraveldocs account, so I logged in, and followed the steps in "new application/schedule appointment". I got to step 8 where it asked me to confirm the case ID, but when I hit the confirm button it gave me error message saying ""To attest payment you must enter your receipt number and check the box." Which was very confusing as it didnt give me any payment options yet and there were no boxes to check.

I figured there was something wrong with the website and tried a different browser, which turned out to be a big mistake as I think that is what gave me the freeze on my account.

I emailed the Prague embassy first, but then I learned that there is a ustraveldocs email adress (support-czechrepublic...), so I emailed them explaining the situation and asking for help (that was before I found out the account was frozen).

So far I only got an auto generated email from CGI support saying they changed my password.

To make things worse, they (CGI support, which i didnt email at all) sent me an email for new users with my login details to my gmail (but I already had an account made with my czech adress, the one they froze), so in hopes I could get past the freeze and finally schedule the appointment I logged in, but it just made me merge those two accounts - I have 2 email adresses, I used the Czech one to create the first account and the gmail to email them about the error message since my czech email looks a bit sketchy to non-czechs, but they probably just took it as that was my login email and sent me a new password for that again this morning.

I don't think anybody has actually looked at the error message I got, at least not yet, and I am quite worried that when they finally un-freeze my account, it will be the same issue with the same weird error message.

Do you have any advice as to who to contact or how to get help with this?

Also, is it possible that if I dont confirm the interview date within x amount of days, they will give it to somebody else? the wait time I got is already way longer than everone else I have seen in Prague, so I would be really dissapointed if it got postponed yet again.

First, if this is for a IR1/CR1, the NVC schedules your interview.

Second, the "new application/schedule appointment" section wants the receipt number from the bank or payment method IF you filled out and payed for the DS-160 fees, which does not apply to IR1/CR1.

Yes, they did (we're doing CR1), for january 26th, but I was supposed to log into the ustraveldocs account and register my case there and book the time and date they sent me, but it wouldn't let me do that because of the error message that didn't make any sense.

It didnt ask for any payments in the step where I got the error, it literally only asked to confirm case ID. But then the error read what I wrote before which obviously made no sense. I didnt see any options to pay anything anywhere on the site either (I think I'll have to pay the embassy fee through the website eventually?).

The whole thing is weird and so far I have heard nothing from ustraveldocs or pragueivp... I get that they take their time, but I don't know what I'll do if they keep ignoring me and the issue with the error will persist. None of the phone numbers here in czech work, it is just a loop that always finishes with "to find out more about xyz visit our website..." and they hang up

Anyways, thank you for your answer

It didnt ask for any payments in the step where I got the error, it literally only asked to confirm case ID. But then the error read what I wrote before which obviously made no sense. There is no additional fee for the interview appointment. For CR1, you payed to the NVC the AOS and IV fees previously.

I am 99.9% sure that you do not need to confirm your appointment.  The 0.1% is the uncertainty that Prague may do something different than most embassies.  Do you have the exact wording from the interview appointment email?

The last 3 fees you need to pay are the Medical, the document delivery (passport) by courrier, and the USCIS immigration fee after you get approved and you receive the CR1 visa .

"The National Visa Center ( NVC ) completed its processing of your immigrant visa application and forwarded it to the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General, where an immigrant visa interview has been scheduled. Appointment information is located at the bottom of this email."

That came from NVC .

I dont have anything from Prague embasy as I havent been able to finish the registration on the ustraveldocs website (for the reasons already mentioned) and they recquire that I finish that and make the appointment as if to confirm it. It says that in bold red letters ono the page, but i cannot access it now as my account has been frozen.

So im kinda screwed until someone helps me figure out the error on the website, but the customer service is about what youd expect it to be (at least in my experience so far).

I wont have the interview lette from the embassy until I finish the registration process and I dont think theyd let me go to the interview without it.

Who is "they" that you are referring in the sentence I bolded?

Your interview was set by the NVC .  That letter you quoted at top is your interview confirmation letter.

I suspect when you logged into USTraveldocs with your old account and attempted to schedule an interview, it probably resumed from your last session - old tourist visa application, student visa, whatever.  That has no bearing to your CR1.

If you still have doubts, email the embassy to confirm the date set by NVC .  Forward the NVC email for reference.  Do not confuse matters with the UStraveldocs issues in that email.

Don't try to force it or it will block you like it blocked me! I think your best bet is to simply wait. Try tommorow, it should work. The issue is that the data is not yet uploaded to their system and so it's confused.

awesome thank you so much!

Resolved: How Do I Fix Error Code 1015 Cloudflare Rate Limited

By: Author Alex Lim

Home > Resolved: How Do I Fix Error Code 1015 Cloudflare Rate Limited

If you have ever encountered the Cloudflare error 1015, you may have wondered what it means and how to fix it. This error occurs when you are trying to access a website that is protected by Cloudflare, a service that provides security and performance optimization for websites.

Cloudflare has a feature called rate limiting, which allows website owners to limit the number of requests that a visitor can make in a certain period of time. This is done to prevent malicious attacks, such as denial-of-service (DoS) attacks, that can overload the website and affect its functionality.

Table of Contents

What Causes Cloudflare Error 1015?

How to fix cloudflare error 1015, check server status, identify source of requests, implement cache validation, origin configuration, throttle request flow, rotate proxies regularly, validate cache headers, raise limit thresholds, remove old restrictions, optimize assets, consider cloudflare plans, consider traffic volume, web server configuration, application code & plugins, denial of service protection, frequently asked questions (faqs), question: how do i know if i am being rate limited by cloudflare, question: how long does cloudflare error 1015 last, question: how can i contact the website owner to fix cloudflare error 1015.

However, sometimes rate limiting can also affect legitimate visitors, who may see the error message “You are being rate limited (Error 1015)” when they try to access the website. This can be frustrating and confusing, especially if you are not doing anything wrong. In this article, we will explain why Cloudflare error 1015 happens and how to fix it.

Resolved: How Do I Fix Error Code 1015 Cloudflare Rate Limited

Cloudflare sits between the visitor and the origin web server, acting as a reverse proxy. When a visitor makes a request, Cloudflare passes it to the origin server and returns the response. Error 1015 occurs when the response from the origin server is invalid or malformed, preventing Cloudflare from caching and serving it properly.

Possible Causes:

  • Origin server is overloaded, crashing, or offline
  • Origin web server configuration issue
  • Origin server script or plugin conflict
  • Denial of service (DoS) attack overwhelming the origin

There are several possible ways to fix Cloudflare error 1015, depending on the cause and the action of the rate limit. Here are some of the common solutions that you can try:

Verify the server is online and not overloaded through monitoring tools. Restart services if needed.

Trace traffic patterns to locate any bots, scripts or software that may be over-submitting unintended requests.

Use cache expiration headers to avoid unneeded requests re-validating cache on each page load.

Confirm origin allows adequate but secure RPS thresholds and can handle traffic loads without rate limiting response times.

Space out requests using delays or quotas to stay below enforced RPS ceiling.

Switching IP addresses prevents any one from reaching threshold. Reliable proxy services ensure uptime.

Avoid reloading cached pages unnecessarily to minimize unnecessary RPS consumption.

Reduce limits if too low for regular usage to bypass error.

Delete outdated configuration if rate limiting showing as disabled.

Reducing page load size through asset compression lowers resource usage.

Higher tiers offer increased capacity for high traffic websites.

Contact support if volume regularly triggers error for adjusted settings.

Check for issues like missing dependencies, permissions errors or outdated scripts impacting responses.

Review application code and plugins for conflicts causing malformed responses. Deactivate non-essential components.

Evaluate DoS/DDoS protection like rate limiting, blacklisting or WAF rules if attacks are suspected of overwhelming backend.

Here are some frequently asked questions related to Cloudflare error 1015:

Answer: You can know if you are being rate limited by Cloudflare by looking at the error message that you see when you try to access the website. If you see the error 1015 message and the action that the website owner has chosen, such as challenge, block, or simulate, then you are being rate limited by Cloudflare.

Answer: The duration of Cloudflare error 1015 depends on the time interval that the website owner has set for their rate limit. For example, if the website owner has set a rate limit of 100 requests per minute, then you may see the error 1015 message for up to one minute after you trigger the rate limit. However, if you continue to make requests to the website after the time interval expires, you may trigger the rate limit again and see the error 1015 message again.

Answer: You can contact the website owner to fix Cloudflare error 1015 by using the contact information that they provide on their website, such as an email address, a phone number, or a contact form. You can also try to find their social media accounts, such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, and send them a message. You can explain to them that you are seeing the error 1015 message and ask them to check their rate limiting settings and adjust them if necessary.

In this article, we have shown you how to fix Cloudflare error 1015, which occurs when you are being rate limited by Cloudflare, a service that provides security and performance optimization for websites. US visa CGI account frozen for 72 hours: What causes it and how to prevent it?

Published: June 15, 2022 51 Comments

US visa CGI account frozen for 72 hours

With the limited availability of US visa appointments, it’s already a pain to find an appointment for your visa interview. You have to check for available appointments several times a day, even at odd hours such as late nights or early mornings. And, on top of that, it’s quite frustrating if your US visa account is frozen for 72 hours for suspicious activity.

When your CGI account is frozen, you are often presented with the following error message.

“Your account has been frozen for suspicious activity, and you will not be able to access it for up to 72 hours. Your account will be unfrozen automatically after that time. Our call center agents will not be able to assist you with unfreezing your account or scheduling your appointment until then.”

Having your CGI account frozen for 72 hours is frustrating and discouraging. It crushes your hopes. Especially when you haven’t done anything suspicious. You were only trying to book an appointment for your visa interview. What’s suspicious about it? You weren’t trying to game the system or hack someone’s account. It’s your own account. You paid $160 for the fee, not a small amount. You deserve to book an appointment.

I hear you. I have been there. I know why it happens and how to avoid it. In this article, I will explain why a CGI account gets frozen for 72 hours, how to prevent it and if there are any options to unfreeze a frozen account.

What does it mean by a CGI account frozen for 72 hours?

Your visa appointment (also called CGI Federal or US Travel Docs) account is frozen for 72 hours when you see the following message on your account.

When you see the above message, your visa appointment account is locked for 72 hours and you cannot log back in for at least 72 hours.

The 72 hours is calculated from the first time you see the error message. So any repeated login attempts will not prolong the time. Any attempt to change the password will not extend the time either.

Why does a CGI account freeze for 72 hours?

US visa CGI federal account frozen for 72 hours due to suspicious activity

The main reason why this is in place is to prevent agents and bots from gaming the system and taking away the opportunity for individual applicants to book appointments that they deserve.

Agents that deal with US visa applications often have a pool of “placeholder” accounts. They use these accounts to look up and hold appointments. Since these accounts are used to view the availability and/or hold appointments but never to actually attend an appointment, they are repeatedly used for months and years. Some agents use bots to automate this activity.

Here is an example of why these agents use such placeholder accounts. The US visa fee is $160 and is valid for one year. If an agent can find appointments for 10 applicants and charge $100 each, that is a $1,000 return from a $160 investment. That’s a very good return on investment. So depending on how many clients they have and how big their business is, they maintain tens or even hundreds of such placeholder accounts.

If you think about it, this practice of looking up or holding appointments can lead to limited or unavailability of appointments for those that genuinely need them.

CGI Inc. , the software company that built and maintains the US visa appointment systems, has features to curb such practice. When the CGI Federal system senses that an account is often used to look up availability or hold appointments more often than necessary, it flags the account suspicious and freezes it for 72 hours.

Now, there isn’t an easy way to determine whether an account is a real account or some agent’s placeholder account. So the criteria for flagging suspicious accounts can sometimes freeze real accounts. And that’s also a reason why the accounts are temporarily frozen for 72 hours instead of permanently banning them.

CGI Federal is actively working on making its systems more efficient but as of now, a few extra clicks or lookups can flag your account as suspicious and can get your CGI Federal account frozen for 72 hours.

How to unfreeze CGI account?

The only way to unfreeze CGI account is to wait 72 hours. But there have been instances where the accounts were released/unfrozen after 24 hours. Therefore, wait about 24 hours and then access your account. Trying once every 24 or 36 hours will help figure out if your account is unfrozen and you can log back in.

Any attempts to log in while your account is frozen will not reset the clock or extend the frozen time. So there is no harm in trying to log in once every 24 or 36 hours.

Also, contacting customer service or changing password will not unfreeze your account. Creating a new account and paying the fee again will not work either, since the new account will be flagged as a duplicate as most of the information will be identical to the frozen account.

Therefore, there is no option other than waiting 72 hours. The smart option is to prevent an account freeze.

How to prevent a CGI account freeze for 72 hours?

US Visa CGI Federal Appointment Availability

Your US visa account might freeze for many reasons. Only the developers at CGI Federal would know the exact reasons. Below is the list of activities that I think are considered suspicious by CGI Federal. Avoiding these suspicious activities will prevent your CGI account from freezing for 72 hours.

DISCLAIMER The below list is based on my own personal experience and knowledge. Only the developers at CGI Federal know what activities constitute suspicious. Therefore, we shall not be held liable for any inaccuracies.

Suspicious Activity 1: Concurrent logins

Your visa account is frozen for 72 hours if CGI Federal notices that you have logged into your account concurrently. Concurrent logins indicate that your account may be a placeholder account and several people are using it to view appointments.

Here are some of the ways to avoid concurrent logins.

1. Do not share your login information with others

It’s not an uncommon practice to share login information with family and friends to maximize the chances of finding an appointment. But this can backfire as concurrent logins are considered suspicious activity. Do not share your login information with others.

2. Use only one browser for your CGI account

Logging into your CGI account from different browsers and not properly logging off can seem like concurrent logins. Always use only one browser on your computer to log into your CGI account.

3. Log off completely after you view the available appointments

Keeping the tabs or browsers open or closing them without properly logging off can keep the sessions alive on the server. These may seem like concurrent logins. Always log off completely after you are done using your CGI account.

Suspicious Activity 2: Logging in from different devices

Your visa account is frozen for 72 hours if CGI Federal notices that you have been logging into your account from different devices. Similar to concurrent logins, logging in from different devices may raise red flags suspecting that your account may be a placeholder account.

Here are some of the ways to avoid logging in from different devices.

1. Use only one device, preferably a computer/laptop

A US visa is a serious endeavor and you should use a computer or laptop for your visa application and appointment booking. Mobile phone screens are too small and they can be cumbersome to handle an activity such as booking a US visa appointment .

Whichever device you pick, make sure to use the same device throughout the visa appointment booking process.

2. Always use the same computer/laptop

If you prefer to use a computer/laptop for booking your US visa appointment, use the same computer/laptop for logging into your account every time.

If you prefer to share your login with someone at home so you can look up appointments round the clock, have them use the same computer/laptop. Divide up your time into blocks and have each of you use the same laptop in that block of time.

Suspicious Activity 3: Performing more than 12 actions in one session

Performing more than 12 actions in one session will not right away result in an account freeze, but will result in getting blocked from viewing the appointments until 12am EST the next day.

If you are close to performing 12 actions, you will be presented with a “you are approaching the maximum number of times you may view this page…” message.

When this message is shown, simply finish booking your appointment or log off completely. And, do not log back in for at least 6 hours, otherwise, you risk getting your CGI Federal account frozen for 72 hours.

RELATED: You are approaching the maximum number of times: What causes this error and how to avoid it?

Suspicious Activity 4: Logging in more than 4 times in a day

Logging into your CGI account way too many times in a day can also freeze your account. But how many times is way too many times?

How many times can you login to CGI Federal in a day?

You can login to CGI Federal up to 4 times a day. Logging in more than 4 times a day can trigger suspicious activity which can lead to your CGI account frozen for 72 hours. If you are going to check your appointments 24×7, then space your logins at least 6 hours apart.

It’s already a pain to find an appointment for your US tourist visa due to limited availability. On top of that, it’s frustrating if your US visa account gets frozen for 72 hours. You are often presented with the following message when your account is frozen.

The only way to unfreeze your CGI account is to wait 72 hours. Contacting customer service or changing password will not unfreeze your account. The wisest option is to prevent an account freeze.

As per my experience, activities such as concurrent logins, too many actions in a given session or too many logins in a day can all constitute suspicious activities.

Is your CGI account frozen for 72 hours? What activities do you think triggered it? And, how long did you have to wait? Let me know in the comments below.

Error occurred while loading a Visualforce Page – US Visa Appointment

Solution to US Visa - Error occurred while loading a Visaualforce Page

As you are going through the process of applying for US Visa Stamping at a US Consulate or US Embassy, you would use US Visa Appointment Online booking system at ustraveldocs.com website. The actual online appointment booking system is redirected to CGI Federal website that runs on Salesforce’s force.com platform. While the online appointment booking system works fairly well, there are some common errors that you might encounter. In this article, we will look at the one of the most common error that you get “ Error occurred while loading a Visualforce Page” and how to get if fixed.

Error occurred while loading a Visaualforce Page – US Visa System Error Details

Below are the details of the issue and why you would see something like this and what could have happened and how to fix the same.

What is the Issue ? When do you see this error ?

You may get an error message in the US Visa Appointment Booking system (CGI Federal website that is at URL https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/ ) that says “ Error: Error Occurred while loading a Visualforce page. ” as in the below screenshot during one of the following situations.

  • When you are trying to fill out the details related to Emergency US Visa Appointment(EA) request on CGI Federal website and submit the same, sometimes you may get the below error.
  • You may also get the below error, when you are trying to change the DS-160 number, after you have created a new DS-160 and trying to update that number with the new number.
  • You may also get this error, when you are trying to update your profile on USTravelDocs CGI Federal website.
  • Sometimes, you may see the same error, when you are trying to book an appointment as well. This case is very uncommon, but happens.

Error occurred while loading a visualforce page

What is the reason for the Error ?

The error is related to Salesforce platform Force.com’s common error related to form submission or changes related to form. It is a generic message related to the platform and does not give you any information. It can be confusing and you may not know if the action you performed was successful or not.

Ideally, someone who wrote the application should have handled this error, but they missed to handle it. So, in cases, where there is no specific logic to handle errors or if the system does not know what to do, you will get the default system error. This message is the default system error.

How to Fix the Error ? Outcome after the Error ? Solution ?

Depending on what scenario you got the error, below are the typical outcomes or solutions to your error.

  • Emergency Visa Appointment Request Submission : When you get the above error during submission of Emergency US visa Appointment Request, then most of the time, your EA request was submitted successfully. You should not submit or refresh the page again. If you refresh the page, it will be submitted twice. One way to validate and be sure that your EA request was submitted is to email the USTravelDocs Support email and ask for the same. They would usually confirm if your EA request was submitted successfully. You can also call the support team to confirm the same.
  • Profile Update, DS-160 Update : If you are getting the above error for profile changes or updates to the DS-160 number, then you need to call customer service to check the reason for the issue. Sometimes, it is not reflected or some duplicate issues. They will help you sort it out. You can email or call them.
  • Visa Stamping / Biometrics Appointment Booking : If you got this error when you are booking an appointment for either interview or Biometrics, it means that something is not working. You can try after few hours and see, if it works. If not, you can try it next day. In the mean time, you can reach out to the customer service. This scenario does not happen very often and if it repeats during the appointment booking, then you need to contact customer service.

Whom to Email or Call for the Error ?

The email address for USTravelDocs varies by country, so you need to check the support email for your country on the ustraveldocs.com website related to your country. For India, the support email is [email protected] , you just email the address to get confirmation.

You can navigate to the https://www.ustraveldocs.com/ page and then select the country and go to the contact page on the website for more details on the email info. For India, you can check the USTravelDocs.com/in for Contact Info . If you are not clear, you can also email the US consulate for the same.

What was your experience with the error ? How did you solve it ? Share your thoughts and experiences in comments below.

I’ encountering the same error from past 30days now. No help from the customer support team of the usatraveldocs/embassy. As mentioned by others in the recent comments, they are giving the same old third call generic responses asking to clear cache, update to new modern browser, try scheduling a new appointment, but no success. Asked those mf’s to escalate the issue, still they are closing the cases at the base level itself. Called them multiple times, asking them to connect with their supervisors, but saying in response no supervisor available at the moment. One mf even said its not possible for them to transfer the call to some higher authority person in the team. They are lying and will face consequences of the same later in their future.

So i’m reaching out to the community who are facing the same “Visual Force Page Error” and seeking assistance if one has been able to resolve the issue.

My husband booked slots this month at hyd, he tried rescheduling them to early dates, but unfortunately as the new site updated our tickets got cancelled. and we are unable to use our money and we are even unable to book slots in new website. any suggestion ?

The same happened with me I had an interview appointment scheduled for 7th of august, but bcuz of this update, the site canceled my appointment and gave me a date after my school in USA starts,so I went for an expedited date, emergency request.

You got a chance to book a emergency appointment when you got approved.

I also aske if i can speak to the supervisor or manager, and they reply no one is available. how the F*** you operate an office without a supervisor….. one representative said call back in 1 hour they will be in after 10am, wtf….everytime i call they put you on hold for 1 hour…….i even asked one of the representative a question stating “where is the office located so i can go speak to them in person, what is the address” and you won’t believe it, she told me ” please don’t ask me personal questions….” Lady i am not asking for your home address…i am asking for the office address….lol……..it’s a joke…….now i don’t know who needs to escalate this technical problem…is it the the americans at the US embassy or the indian team…..they been treating me as a ping pong game going back and forth with NO solution…..its a joke…..like a broken record!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi , I am facing this issue from months.I have moved out the company that has scheduled the stamping appointment for me and my family. But i did not attend the stamping appointment due to covid. now i am trying schedule the appointment. which is leading to the below error. Could you please help me to move forward.

Support team has been responding saying to delete cookies and update java version , even after doing that , i am getting same error message.

Error: Error occurred while loading a Visualforce page.

I was facing this issue, spoken with the ustravel docs customer care. Found passport details can be linked to only one account, the details were linked to an account I no longer had access dropped an email to ustraveldocs with details and they’ve linked details to a new account which was not used in ustraveldocs until that point of time

Phani, Thanks for sharing!

For H1 stamping appointment, on payment page, it showed me Total Fee (1 x 205 x 84.00)INR 17220.00. But when I clicked on IMPS payment method it showed me INR 15960 as the total fee. IMPS page also said “THERE ARE NO REFUNDS. Do not pay twice if you have any doubts. Please ensure you pay the exact amount listed below.”

So I paid INR 15960 on 6/17 and then after a few days, on entering the receipt number, I got the below error:

“The receipt number entered, xxx , is not a complete MRV fee payment. To schedule an appointment with this receipt number, please pay INR 1260 via the same method used for the original payment. It is extremely important to use the same receipt number when making the second payment.”

I checked bank website and it doesnt let me pay the additional amount of INR 1260 with the same receipt number. Has anyone faced this?

I have added my depends into my account by giving wrong passport and its added successfully. but when it tried to correct with right passport i am receiving visual force error. how to fix this issue pls

I am facing the same error in the same scenario

I am facing this problem since yesterday June 15 2023 and still having this issue. The payment option on ustraveldoca is showing incorrect currency 1inr to 1 usd and when we go to neft eft options it shows amount as n/a.they increased the fee from 190 to 205 In a day.

Anyone facing this trouble?

I am facing the same issue since past 4 days. Was your issue resolved?

Hi i am also facing same issue . Is your issue resolved?

Hi Is that resolved?

Hi even I m facing the same issue since 2 days.

Can you reach out to me to discuss

There is no way people here can reach out to you so avoid asking that type of questions (unless you wan to post your phone number and e-mail which I am pretty sure will be removed by either this website bot or moderator). Instead ask for any solution or work around. We all know that whoever highschool dropped kids wrote the code and whoever is running that code on system they both are amateur for sure.

I am getting Visual force error while trying to book biometric appointment, i did create new login but still i am seeing same issue while update profile as well as apply new application. i am trying from 3 days and connect support but did not get any helpful reply. i am sure it is global issue and Salesforce will fix this. As people are not able to book and appointment who came its now high priority for the Application owner. Can we book Bio appointment by phone?

I am getting the same issue. Travel docs folks keep saying they will fix it but no progress since last week. Is your issue resolved? Any suggestions?

Same issue , please do update in case if you find some fix on this

i am getting visual force error while updating profile to pay the visa fee. any help

Same, please do update in case if you guys find some fix.

I am getting same when trying to add my dependent. If I change his passport number or DOB it’s letting me in but not with his exact correct details.

Spoke with agents and all are sharing different information but no resolution.

is this something global issue or what ?

I tried to update profile, it allows you to change everything except passport details. If you dont have to update passport information, you can try update profile first

If you have 2 accounts and you have same passport number mentioned in the profile you will get this error. Set passport number to some dummy value in one of the account

This comment fixed my problem. Thanks!!

how can you check if you have 2 accounts and use one and not the other?

I called them and the visa payment section is down from June 15th to June 16th

Hello, Thanks to RB. P do this thing to fix issue. If your dependent having separate profile and now you are adding as dependent in your profile this issue occurs while updating passport #. Give X123456 or which ever values you desire and save your dependent profile. Now login with your cgi profile and add your depedent details. It will work. This works for me.

Please how do you set the passport number to a dummy value. A step by step guide will be appreciated.

I get a “not found”. when i click on to the payment screen Have tried everything

any advice?

I’m getting the same issue, did it get resolved? I tried calling them however the call is getting disconnected. Tried all the methods like clearing browser cache history and also tried with different devices nothing works. Please help if you have got this resolved. I have also mailed them with the situation.

I’m getting this issue when I try to update my profile.

Try msedgeviewer browser.

CGI designed this crappy website which never works. They got their money from the US government, so they don’t care anymore. And the US government offcials also don’t care about visa applicants. So, expect no help.

I am getting the same error. Please share if you have solution

this is the utterly frustrating response i got from usatraveldocs support 1st response: “clear the cookies & update the java on your computer and if issue still persists contact your internet service provider” after following it and no luck sent them another mail and 2nd response from them: “Thank you for writing to the U.S. Visa Service Desk.

We hope this information is helpful to you.”

venkata, It is ironic, some of the agents have no clue and they are lost…some are good…sometimes, it could be that, try again or try the alternatives as listed above.

Hi Venkata,

I am facing the same error for more than 1 month now, while trying to reschedule parent’s B1/B2 appointment and getting the same frustrating response from the support team that you are getting. Everyday I send email to create a ticket & they close it with those generic messages & not yet able to talk to a supervisor. Is your issue solved or still facing the same? Were you able to reach the supervisor or technical team?

Thanks in advance.

I ran into the same issue. Upon waiting for 24 hours to hear back from customer service, it was extremely frustrating to see a reply asking us to clear cookies and cache and try a different web browser – such a trivial suggestion. I was hoping to get a better answer from a phone conservation to which I was asked to wait another 24 hours for a resolution in response to my email reply. After another stressful, frustrating and agonizing 24 hours they asked me to cancel my appointment and redo the whole process.

ps: if anyone encounters this issue, please don’t waste your time hoping the customer service would look into it. THEY WONT! Just cancel your current appointment and redo the process.

Piyush, It is sadly the system sometimes can be weird and support team does not provide helpful info as well…Thanks for sharing the tip !

did the problem got solved by cancelling the existing appointment?

REQUEST FOR RECTIFICATION OF MY APPLICATION

I am an applicant who has received approval for my non-immigrant visa application for F1 visa Unfortunately, for some time now, the appointment calendar does not pop up or reflect in my portal for me to book an appointment for Visa interview.

I have made several calls to the embassy and my issue is resolved.

Thank you very much for the help.

Yours GRACE SARFO

Goodmorning, please I have been trying to expedite my appointment since Wednesday but I keep getting this message “this site can’t be reached” despite using different browsers all to no avail. Please how can this be fixed Help!

Oladeyi, Call the customer service.

I am in same situation . Not able to schedule a 221g appointment due to this error. Any suggestion would help. I tried calling and emailing ustraveldoc customer care but no help. They keeps on saying your case has been highlighted to concerned department. Its been 7 days now facing same error. I need to reschedule my US Return ticket due to this error everything is delayed.

Nurul, Try different browsers, computers to give it a try. Sometimes, it could be that as well.

Thanks Kumar, tried all the options but it does not work

Nurul, Others said, you need to ask them to connect to supervisor, maybe there is some backend data mismatch. Did you try that option?

After lot of struggle I was able to connect to supervisor today. Its been 19 days my case is open. It appeared supervisor does not have any special access to manipulate a profile. Supervisor also repeated the same information and asked to wait for a resolution from technical team and there is no ETA on that.

Update- Finally i received an email that my ticket was resolved. I was able to schedule a follow up interview.

I just submitted the DS-160 form. I want to schedule for interview. I was asked to create a profile, whenever I try, an error box will return saying Your request cannot be processed at this time. The site administrator has been alerted. User could not be created. Please ensure First Name and Last Name are entered as they are in your passport. What can I do

Bakare, It could be a simple glitch at that time. You can call them or try after sometime, it should work.

I have the same issue. How did it go?

it also happens sometimes if your account has already been previously created. so try clicking ‘forgot password’ and then resetting the password.

Hello there Everytime I call them I have had to wait for hours and then they say that there are no supervisor currently available …..I am getting the error from ctober 2021,there is no change

Any help Please

Hi all –

I was FINALLY able to resolve this issue. The problem was that even though I had applied to an E visa category, on the back end my category got flipped to H/L. Due to this mismatch, I was seeing the Visual Force Error. The solution was to flip back my Visa category on the back end to E. This can only be done by the US Travel Docs Customer Service Supervisors.

1. Call the US Travel Docs customer service https://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/en/contact-us 2. The customer service representatives might invariably just ask you to clear cookies, or send them an email. 3. Push them to connect the line to their supervisor. [This is a difficult step – they will ask you to call back in an hour as all their supervisors are on other calls; let them know that you are willing to stay on the line for as long as it takes] 4. Explain the problem to the supervisor, they should be able to resolve the issue by aligning your profile accurately with your visa category.

I am still getting the same error, and have had this for the last 30 days. From the comments it seems like it is a fairly prevalent issue that they have no resolution to. I tried contacting the customer service; like others have pointed out, there is literally no useful help. They respond with asking me to clear cookies / cache. I have done that and million things more. I have tried with multiple computers, browsers, locations, vpns, etc. Nothing works.

Ramanan, Sorry to hear. See, if there is any new option to delete the current profile and create a new one. The truth is many are able to book, so could be an issue with your profile…

Unfortunately, I don’t see an option to be able to delete / create a new profile. Any other suggestions? Do you think it would work if I started a new DS160 altogether and created a new US travel docs account and repay the fees?

Ramanan, You could create a new account with a new email ID and use the same details. In the middle, system will try to say that duplicate profile exists. You can ask the customer service to merge profiles. This is one of the ways. To be honest, this is just one of the guesswork…does not hurt to try…. it may or may not work. Worth a shot. It is sad that the system is so bad.

I have already done it no change

Ramanan, Thanks for sharing !

Its giving me same Visual Error from last week. I am constantly following up with them but they are not helpful at all.

Please help me if any one got the resolution.

Thank you in adavance.

Nisha, There is not much you can do, other than work with the support team. Try different browser, different network. If you have VPN for other country, try that as well. Sometimes, these tricks work…

Guys if anyone has this resolved during biometric appointment please share the details here.
