The tranquillity of this place today makes it hard to believe that the historic battle that bore the name of one of the most intense battles during the D-Day landings took place right here on 6 June 1944. The same golden sand, scattered by the boots of American soldiers who bravely faced the formidable German defences. Fierce resistance, costly fighting and difficult terrain earned the beach the nickname 'Bloody Omaha'. Today's tranquillity and beauty of the place is due to the bravery of these soldiers, and we invite you to take a reflective walk on this historic site. At this point during the day we will distribute packed lunches. Our team has personally prepared a homemade baguette lunch for you, alongside which you will receive water and dessert.

American cemetery: a solemn tribute to sacrifice

The American Cemetery is a place of reverence and reflection. The sight of rows of white crosses and Stars of David is a humbling reminder of the enormous sacrifices made for freedom. A testament to the sacrifice and determination of each of these soldiers, it remains recorded in history as the great price that freedom brings. The tranquil surroundings belies the profound impact of the events that took place here, and as you walk between the graves, you will be reminded of the profound price of freedom.

Meeting and Pickup

When you debark from your cruise ship, head outside the cruise terminal. Your guide will be waiting outside the security gate with a sign that says VEXPERIO . Please note : we do NOT meet at the parking lot directly next to the cruise ships. Please head outside of the security gate - it is about a 3-minute walk, 1000ft / 300m.

You will start your tour of Normandy with a hassle-free pick-up from the port of Le Havre. Our experienced guide will meet you at the cruise port, explaining all the steps of your memorable journey.

Our final stop on this solemn journey is the American Cemetery, a hallowed ground overlooking Omaha Beach. Located in a tranquil setting, this sacred site serves as the resting place of more than 9,000 American soldiers whose sacrifice will remain the greatest price of peace. Spend time visiting this sacred site as an example of remembrance and tribute to their sacrifice.

7. Port of Le Havre

End your enriching journey with a relaxing drive back to the port of Le Havre. Take this time to contemplate the significance of the history witnessed on these beaches during the D-Day landings and the courage shown by the Allied forces.

Lunch Included: Enjoy a complimentary homemade packed lunch—classic French ham and cheese sandwich, a bottle of water, and dessert. Vegetarian or have dietary restrictions? Please inform us at least 48 hours before the tour for a tomato and goat cheese sandwich or other dietary accommodations.

Meeting Point: Upon disembarking, please proceed to the terminal entrance, just outside the security gate, about a 3-minute walk (1000 feet / 300 meters) from the cruise terminal. We do not meet at the car park next to the cruise ship. Our representatives will have a "VEXPERIO" sign.

If your ship's arrival is delayed, the tour will start within 30 minutes after docking. Please be on time; if delayed, contact us immediately.

There will be a full refund if you cancel at least 15 days prior to the first day of the tour. But, if you cancel : between 8 and 14 days before the first day of the tour, we will refund 75% of the total invoice. between 3 and 7 days before the first day of the tour, we will refund 50% of the total invoice. If you cancel within 48 hours of your tour no refund will be given.

Pick up from your Cruise Ship in Le Havre 

First, we will come and pick you up at your Cruise Ship in Le Havre cruise port. Meet your English speaking guide who will go over the itinerary and program of the day. Then, board your A/C vehicle and begin to make your way to the Normandy coastline where the D-DAY landings occurred.

Visit Omaha Beach

Among the allied troops, the Americans landed on two different beaches, later named Omaha and Utah. Today, our day tour is taking you to Omaha beach, where the deadliest of the landings took place.

Even though bombings occurred before the landing itself, they failed to neutralize the German positions in that sector. In addition, troops and amphibian vehicles were disembarked too far from the shore, leading to an absolute failure and thousands of men being killed under German fire.

Now off to the cliffs

A little bit to the West, your private guided tour of Normandy will head to the Pointe du Hoc, a breathtaking cliff offering lunar landscapes and a magnificent viewpoint over the English Channel. Given the toughness of the operation, the Pointe du Hoc was given to Rangers to land upon.

The battle was rough, as the Pointe du Hoc had been built as a key point of the Atlantic Wall by the Germans – it was the highest point between Utah beach and Omaha beach and provided a great observation spot to notice any unfriendly arrivals from the sea. You can still see an artillery battery there and feel as if it was still this faithful June morning…

Normandy American Cemetery

End this private tour from Le Havre with a stop at the Normandy American Cemetery. Located in Colleville-sur-Mer, on the site of the temporary American St. Laurent Cemetery, established by the U.S. First Army on June 8, 1944 as the first American cemetery on European soil in World War II.

Here you will have some time to walk around and pay homage but also visit the Visitor Center that provides a fuller array of visitor services to put the D-Day landings in perspective as one of the greatest military achievements in history.

After the visit, return to Le Havre and drop off at your ship. This private tour can accommodate a maximum of 8 persons per minivan. During the whole day, one of our certified English-speaking driver guides will be by your side. He will explain the history behind each Normandy tourist site you will visit.
