Etosha Safari Lodge

Etosha Safari Lodge ideally situated on the C38 which is only 10km from the Anderson Gate – making it the perfect stop for visiting Etosha National Park.

About Etosha Safari Lodge

It is truly an amazing place; perched on top of a small hill with sweeping views of the African Savannah and Mopani trees.

We arrived at the Etosha Safari Lodge and were warmly welcomed by Eileen - the GM for both Safari Lodge and Etosha Safari Camp and Andreas the lodge manager.

Just up a few steps is a large entrance with reception, curio shop and passage that leads into a huge dining room and onto a fantastic viewing deck that overlooks the savannah and waterhole below.

Even though this is a big lodge we found the staff to be both helpful and very friendly.

We loved all the old pictures of the history of Namibia; you will see them on the walls of the restaurant and entrance passage.

Food and Drinks

Cocktail hour is on the wooden viewing deck making it the ideal spot to sip sun-d owners while watching the sun set and game drinking at the waterhole below.

At the end of the restaurant you will find the bar with a lounge area next to one of four fireplaces .

From the restaurant, large wooden doors lead out onto a covered veranda and wooden deck with more tables and chairs so you can dine under the stars on those warmer nights.

Dinner and breakfast are buffet style while lunch is a la carte. Our meals were great and there is just so much to choose from - you will be spoilt for choice.

For breakfast we ordered breakfast packs the night before and collected them first thing the next morning before we left for our self-drive Etosha safari.

The boma sits between the restaurant and the viewing deck; it is great place to warm up during those cold winter months.

Accommodation

65 beautifully decorated chalets sit on either side of the main building forming a west and east wing.  

They all have en-suite bathrooms with separate toilet, air conditioners, mosquito nets, a tea and coffee station and small veranda, with lovely views overlooking the Mopane veld.  

With the Andersson  Gate to Etosha National Park being only 10km away, you will have a choice of self-drive or guided games drives into the park. The lodge does two game drives per day – one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The lodge also caters for full day trips into Etosha; just ask when you make your booking.

We chose to do self-drive safaris and we had some fantastic sightings of lions around Okaukuejo.

The lodge has three swimming pools; one at the main lodge near the viewing deck, one near the chalets on the west side of the lodge and one near the chalets on the east side.

The lodge grounds hold a number of animals, like giraffe, zebra, kudu and the damara dik dik, which can be seen from the viewing deck when they come down to drink.

Thank you Etosha Safari Lodge and all the staff for such a lovely and memorable stay, we enjoyed every minute of it!

The privacy of the rooms with the most stunning view. Furthermore, the little coffee station was well stocked with really good coffee. The setup of the rooms was stunning! The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Clothes were washed with care and delivered the same day. All swimming pools had the most breathtaking views. The grounds were very well kept.

Etosha safari lodge

Etosha Safari Lodge is set on a hillock only 10km away from the Andersson Gate entrance into Etosha National Park. The closeness to the world famous park makes the lodge an ideal base, especially for those on a self drive holiday in Namibia, who wish to safari into Etosha without actually staying in the park itself. Travellers who do not want to drive into the park themselves can join one of the lodge’s (half or full day) trips. They offer friendly service in a value for money destination, often used by larger groups. A sister property Etosha Safari Camp is only 1.6km away.

Etosha has close on 114 species of mammal roaming, grazing, prowling, sleeping and sometimes fighting in and around the pan. In the rainy season (October-April) animals seldom visit the waterholes along the more popular tourist routes, but it is also the time to view many young animals, since it is the lambing and calving season. 

The main building at Etosha Safari Lodge houses a restaurant and a bar, guest lounge and there are 3 swimming pools to escape from the hot, afternoon Namibian sun. One of these pools can be booked for private use. There is also a laundry service and secure parking for the lodge's guests and valuables can be secured at reception.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served buffet style and the evening meal often has a variety of game meats. There is a range of South African wines and local beers to compliment your meal.

Accommodation at Etosha Safari Lodge is in chalets or family rooms:

Standard Chalets: 60 single/double chalets are each unit equipped with an en-suite bathroom, twin beds, air-conditioning, a fan, mosquito nets, a tea/coffee station and a private verandah with great views of the surrounding environment.

Standard Family Rooms: 5 standard family rooms with similar facilities to the twin chalets.

Etosha Village - Taleni Africa

Situated only 2 km from the Andersson entrance gate to Etosha National Park, Etosha Village uniquely combines affordability with comfort, style and exquisite cuisine.

One of the five camps situated inside the park, generally less popular with visitors than Okaukuejo or Namutoni but has the advantage of a secluded quiet spot lit waterhole.

Hobatere Lodge

On the far western edge of the park, just outside the Galton Gate, this is an excellent location to explore Etosha, Damaraland and the remote Kaokoland area.

Little Ongava

Luxury accommodation, each unit with private pool, great place to spoil yourself. Guided tours on private nature reserve and inside Etosha Park.

Olifantsrus Campsite

A brand new campsite inside Etosha Park. No accommodation is available here and this only caters for self-sufficient campers. A highlight of the camp is the unique hide which overlooks the camps waterhole.

Nice lodge but spoiled (for us) by huge group of Germans, not all of whom were well behaved. We witnessed a very nasty racist argument between a tourist and the hapless receptionist. Beautiful terraced area for eating but we found the whole place a bit utilitarian and the food dull and Germanic.

Etosha Safari Lodge is the sister lodge of Etosha Safari Camp and part of the Gondwana Collection. It is only 10 km from the Anderson Gate of Etosha National Park. The restaurant and chalets are on a hillock and therefore have spectacular views below the savanna. The chalets are air-conditioned and very comfortable.

The lodge offers guests three swimming pools to enjoy some downtime between visits to the Etosha National Park. Furthermore, it is well known for some of the best viewing decks close to the park, such as a wooden lookout deck at the restaurant and bar area. This is ideal for a sundowner drink overlooking the Mopane bush below.

So much to see and do at Etosha Safari Lodge.

The camp offers guided game drives into Etosha National Park. Guests can choose between half-day and full-day options. Guests are also welcome to stay at the lodge and make self-drive trips to the park. Therefore it is ideal to base yourself at the lodge and visit the park.

Overall, the lodge offers a splendour of spectacular views. The friendly staff and perfect location make this a good choice when visiting Etosha National Park. Even though it is one of the larger lodges within this region, it has been well designed, and the layout blends with the natural surroundings.
