    Upping its game, Porsche in 1971 entered the East African Safari Rally, considered the world's toughest, with a five-car team of 911 STRs. (Two were practice cars.) The 4000-mile multi-stage race took entrants over horrendous routes through Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Only one of the factory 911s finished, taking fifth.
