Scotland Coach / Bus Tour Reviews

This tour was a fantastic way to squeeze some of the highlights of the Scottish Highlands into such a small amount of time. Our tour guide Branka was incredible! She provided so much knowledge and made the experience extremely fun for all of us on the trip. Highly recommend!
Great tour lots of walking day 2 even in the rain it was fantastic. Tim did his best to maximize what we could see and hike his enthusiasm and love for the park were contagious.
The tour started fine; more time in Glasgow would have been better. All we had was a ten-minute bus tour through Glasgow without any information about what was there. At the end of the day, all we got from the tour guide was restaurant suggestions. The travel packet states that we stopped at Loch Ness, but we did not. The tour guide stopped off the road at a parking lot, and we had to walk up a road to look through some bushes and trees and see a partial castle, apparently on Loch Ness. If you were short, you wouldn’t get to see anything. That does not stop at Loch Ness, and the stop at Loch Ness is also listed as a tour highlight for the day, which didn’t happen. There were so many stops we could have made but didn’t. When we stopped at Glenfinnan, the tour guide only talked about the Harry Potter reference, no mention of the Jacobite monument. The tour was constantly filled with Harry Potter references, the guide’s political opinions, and insufficient historical references. No one cares what the tour guide’s political views are; just do your job. Also, at the same stop, it was the only stop with food available, and there was only a little café where several people did not get their orders after they paid, and the tour guide did not care. Some of the people on the tour also missed the monument because the tour guide did not mention it. The Aberdeen Altens Hotel was a complete disaster. The hotel was out in the middle of nowhere. If you didn’t go on the optional excursion, then you were stranded at the hotel with minimal options, such as a pool, where you had to make an appointment to use. It was not available, the hotel had an escape room in the basement which sounds like to beginning of a horror movie, but thankfully it was not open that day, or you could take a taxi where the closet place was a ten minute drive. Still, everything was closed that day, and the taxis don’t drive around the city, so you must remember to take down the number to get back to the hotel. Also, the dinner at this hotel was a disaster; it took over three hours to get through a substandard dinner. The chicken was dry, the potatoes were terrible, the fishcakes were overcooked, and even the dessert was awful. The tour guide didn’t even stay for dinner, and then the following day, she explained that Globus knew about the problem with the amount of time it takes to get dinner and that there was nothing they could do about it. Yes, there is; use a different hotel, location, etc. The fact that this is a known problem and Globus does nothing is despicable. This hotel and location are terrible choices by Globus. The tour of The Royal Yacht Britannia was a waste of time. It seems like it was just a time waster until dinner. Overall, this tour was below satisfactory and not worth the money.

Whytes Coaches makes return trip to tours market

Leading north-east transport operator Whytes Coaches will celebrate 50 years in business next year as it makes a long-awaited return to the tours market.

Staff at the Newmachar-based company are putting the finishing touches to a new tour brochure which will be rolled out in the New Year when bookings open for 2017. The company came under new management earlier this year and is getting its tours business back on the road after a three-year break from the market.

The management team comprising Andrew Urquhart, David Campbell and Jason Carrison, who have between them have been with the company for 30 years, took control of the company in April and were keen to get back in to the tours sector to further diversify the business from coach hire and driver training.

L to R – David Campbell, Andrew Urquhart and Jason Carrison are the driving force behind Whytes re-entering the tours market.

L to R – David Campbell, Andrew Urquhart and Jason Carrison are the driving force behind Whytes re-entering the tours market.

The new tour guide will offer trips across the UK in 2017 and will run from the end of March to the first week of October. Thereafter, a winter programme of Christmas market visits and New Year tours will be available. Mr Urquhart, who is a grandson of company founders Bill and Nora Whyte, is the driving force behind the company’s decision to re-enter the tours market.

He said: “We’re very keen to get back in to the coach tours market and are looking forward to an exciting year as the company celebrates 50 years in business.

“The current economic climate and the value of the pound following the Brexit vote are making foreign holidays less attractive to people so we hope to tap in to what should be a buoyant ‘staycation’ market for 2017 as people opt for UK holidays.

“Coach tours have always been popular with north-east residents and we anticipate significant interest from across the region in our exciting tour programme.”

Customers from across the north-east will be able to take advantage of Whyte’s feeder service which provides collection from across the region as the coaches leave from Newmachar. Once the coaches are on the road south bound pickups will also be available from Aberdeen, Dundee and Perth.

Splendours of the South Downs

whytes coach tours 2022

Worthing is a traditional seaside town with a twist. This is a place full of surprises – a wide open prom allows space to breathe, run, cycle; an endless horizon frames the beach; and, of course, the famous pier.

The Worthing of today is a happy collision of classic and contemporary.

The town also makes a perfect base from which to explore wider Sussex.

During the trip you will visit St Mary’s House & Gardens, an enchanting historic timber-framed house with magnificent five acre gardens, set in the picturesque village of Bramber.

You will also enjoy a journey on the Bluebell Railway, recreating the golden age of steam, with over 30 engines running on the 11 miles of beautiful Sussex Weald countryside. You will spend the afternoon at Borde Hill Gardens, a heritage garden renowned for its rare shrubs and champion trees, specimens accumulated by the great Victorian plant collectors.

The lovely market town of Lewes in the South Downs National Park, along with the Heritage Museum, will also be part of the trip.

The trip includes: Luxury coach travel, coffee on the first morning, accommodation outward and return at the Samelsbury Hotel (DBB), five nights’ DBB at the Chatsworth Hotel in Worthing, admission to St Mary’s House & Garden (including guided tour), a visit to Arundel & Lewis, a trip on the Bluebell Railway, admission to Borde Hill Gardens and a free day to explore Worthing & Brighton.

The trip leaves Aberdeen at 8.25am on Saturday, June 8, with prices from just £640.
