Overall good

I have it 4 stars only because there is not an option to change the distance calculation from km to miles.

By Choicemas

Would have given it 5 stars because I like TravelBoast , and as a content creator it is great, however the choice of colors (need black) and the fact Big Rig Flatbeds aren’t available to choose is a disappointment. It would really be great if the development team could add Peterbilt Model Trucks with Flatbed trailers. Also adding black as a choice of color. I drive a Flatbed truck, as do millions of other drivers. Don’t leave us flatbedders out!! Once I see those flatbed rigs as a choice I will resubmit a 5 star review!!! Hopefully soon!!!

Truck Driver

I’m an OTR Owner/Operator Truck Driver and TravelBoast is a lot of fun to share with family and friends. Just wish it had different trailer types to select with the Semi. I pull a flatbed trailer. If y’all could add that option it would really personalize this feature for drivers. Thanks

Super cool! We love it

TravelBoast is really new and neat. We love the idea of turning our trips into visuals! It makes it so fun and exciting looking back on trips or looking forward to trips. I can’t wait to create my routes using emojis like airplanes, camper vans, and hiking people. I love the videos it makes that you can easily share or post!

By raodwarrior1233567

Pretty cool but time consuming

This is a pretty cool app to show what routes one took on a trip. But there has to be an easier way than to drop dots all over the map to show your route. Also when you drop a dot I wish the line wouldn’t move behind the previous dot so you don’t have to waste time going back to correct it.

By RoadGeekHyuck

Really enjoy it….

But your latest update now has annoying ads when you try and save your drives, if you click the “X” when it pops up, it doesn’t save. It didnt do this before the latest update. You’re better off fixing this. Otherwise, pretty fun to use until the latest update

By MichelleBryer

Love this app🥰🥰

I got TravelBoast because of TikTok and I’m in love with it. I started travel around the world because of TravelBoast. The kids also really enjoy it when we went to Dubai earlier this summer. It truly is amazing.

Great travel app, amazing videos

This is a great travel app to create journeys with mixed transportation. Having lot of fun teaching kids our family journeys. It would be cool if there was sound add to the various transports. Otherwise really cool app. Thanks !

Amazing App

I really love and enjoy TravelBoast. I mainly use TravelBoast to see the journeys that my favorite sports teams take when they are on the road. I hope that there will be new features soon

By PirateLooknAt40

Great Tool!

I’m really enjoying using this thing! I do of course have a couple of feature request… 1 - It would be great if I could place a static marker, for example leaving my truck in one location while showing my hike through the hills. 2 - Allow control over map zoom, being able to control the angle and zoom would allow for more dynamic transitions… maybe :) Anyways, great job on TravelBoast !

By Nicknaim77445

Fun app and functional!

TravelBoast is fun and it works! Suggestion for improvement: Ability to look up the intermediate locations, not just start and end

By jetpilots

Entertaining, still

Entertaining on the back end when it’s complete should you not be busy at work. Great that it’s free (for now?) less the premium vehicles. Some suggestions for the developer: Ability to delete a single waypoint. Currently the “delete” wipes everything. When attempting to move a waypoint it will build another waypoint without a way to delete it. This may be more difficult. Why not create where it follows the road in lieu of a poly line that has to be reformed for each waypoint placed? Meanwhile enjoy!

By sag al ghanim

Keep up the good work

I wish like you can like have items like when you travel

By awsom dragons lol

I love TravelBoast I just wish it would say the places that you are at like cemetery or I also wish you would be able to see houses

By Dan_Clements

Great! Wish I could save.

Great app! Would have liked a way to save individual trips as projects so I could have a database of trips to look back to. Good job!

By jchipps86

Fun to show our adventures!

I’ve enjoyed using TravelBoast to map out our adventures to show it visually. It takes some toying with to get the hang of it, but it’s pretty simple and cool!

By connorreview045

So I downloaded TravelBoast because I have seen several Tik tok videos of people traveling single roads (garden state pkwy for example) but I can’t figure out how to do that? Do I have to manually add all the turns and stuff? Or what do I do?

By sunrise4me

App is crap

I’m a professional truck driver. I thought this would be a fun way to let my family know where I was going next. I purchased the icon for a semi truck for $1.99. When I tried to use TravelBoast , the semi truck icon was not available, and the route TravelBoast indicated from Florida to South Carolina was through the ocean!

Screen Rant

Is the travel boast app on android here's everything we know.

Travel Boast is one of 2022's many viral smartphone apps. But can you get it on Android? Here's a closer look at everything we know!

Travel Boast  exploded in March 2022 as one of the most popular iPhone apps — leaving lots of people to wonder if Travel Boast is also on Android. Although we're just a few months into the year, 2022 has proven to be incredible for smartphone applications . From Locket Widget, NoteIt, Prequel, Spam App, and others, these smaller apps have helped keep our phones fresh and exciting.

One of the latest apps to join the fray is Travel Boast. As the name implies, the app gives users a fun way to boast about their travels on social media. You download Travel Boast, enter where you're traveling from, where you're going, and your route. Travel Boast uses that info and creates a short cartoon video of your trip (ala a travel map animation from  Indiana Jones ). It's fun, cute, and a unique way to share your world travels.

Unfortunately, Travel Boast is only available for certain devices. At the time of publication, you can only get the Travel Boast app on Apple hardware —  including the iPhone , iPad, and Macs with the M1 chip. In other words, the Travel Boast app is not  available for Android. There are countless apps on the Google Play Store pretending to be Travel Boast, but none of them are the real thing.

The Travel Boast Android App Is In Development

But there is some good news! While there's no Travel Boast Android app right now, the developers behind the app are actively working on an Android version. The developers confirmed the news on Instagram in June 2021, saying,  "We've started making a version for Android!!!! Can't believe it! We will try to finish it before the winter."  After missing the Winter deadline, Travel Boast posted on March 12, 2022, that the Android app "will be available in the ending of Spring."  Most recently, a March 26 post confirmed that Travel Boast's Android app should launch  "in the beginning of May."

While it is annoying that Android users have to keep waiting, the fact that an Android app is even being developed is great news. Some of these smaller applications  often forgo an Android release and focus exclusively on their iPhone version. Such is the case with Spam App, Happy Scale, and plenty more. Travel Boast's Android app might be delayed compared to its iOS counterpart, but we're still thrilled that it's actually happening.

The best places to travel, according to a ranking of where people want to visit again.

An amazing part of traveling is discovering a new place, but there’s something special about returning to a beloved destination—which also speaks volumes about what makes a place stand out as one of the best.

So what are the places travelers want to return to the most?

Travel insurance specialists InsureandGo recent issued a report ranking the places that travelers are most eager to revisit . To come up with this list, the researchers looked at almost 500 countries, cities and global tourist attractions, then analyzed thousands of comments on Reddit and numerous online reviews to uncover the places that hold the greatest allure for repeat visits.

“There’s no end to the experiences you can have while traveling, with so many different countries and cities around the globe just waiting to be explored,” Russell Wallace, travel insurance expert at InsureandGo, said in a release. “In some instances, however, traveling to the same place repeatedly can in fact, provide a richer experience. Bringing with it a deeper understanding of a destination, along with local insights and maybe even discovering some hidden gems.”

A spring view of Fujiyoshida and Mt. Fuji in Japan, the country that travelers want to visit most.

Topping the list of countries that travelers yearn to revisit is Japan, which is renowned for its rich culture and diverse offerings. With an impressive 324 mentions on Reddit discussions alone, Japan has clearly enchanted visitors with its captivating blend of tradition and modernity, from the bustling streets of Tokyo to the serene landscapes of Kyoto.

Following closely behind Japan are Italy and Spain, two perennial favorites among globetrotters. With 294 and 209 mentions respectively, these Mediterranean gems captivate visitors with their culinary delights, stunning coastlines and architectural wonders.

When it comes to cities, London—with its iconic landmarks like Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London—reigns supreme as the ultimate destination for repeat visits. Rounding out the top five on the list: Paris, Barcelona and New York City (a tie), then Rome.

When it comes to tourist attractions, Dollywood was named the place travelers want to return to most. Set in the heart of Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains, this theme park—partly owned by the legendary Dolly Parton—delights visitors with its unique blend of entertainment, nostalgia and Southern hospitality. Disneyland in California came in at number two. A number of locations tied for the fifth spot on the list, including Yosemite National Park, England’s Blenheim Palace and Tokyo Disneyland.

These Comfy Vuori Joggers Got Me Through a 38-hour Travel Day Without Wrinkling — Now I Won't Fly Without Them

Travel + Leisure / Madison Woiten

Like most frequent fliers, I take a lot of pride in my packing skills . Not only do I meticulously plan my travel wardrobe for every occasion and activity during the trip, but I’m also strategic about my airport outfit , too. For a little background, when it comes to selecting vacation clothes, I tend to gravitate towards vibrant dresses or whimsical tops that will photograph beautifully against the backdrop of my destination; but when it comes to my day-of travel outfit, it’s all about maximum functionality without sacrificing style.

If that sounds like an impossible task, hear me out. As someone who prefers to look ultra-presentable when arriving to or departing from a destination, I do everything in my power not to succumb to baggy sweats or sloppy loungewear when I’m in flight. After all, oversized comfy clothes may sound smart when you’re curled up on the plane, but realistically, they only add unwanted bulk to your suitcase later on. Enter: the Vuori Villa Cargo Joggers , which proved to be the perfect travel pants for my 38-hour voyage from the Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort back home to Los Angeles.

Vuori Villa Cargo Joggers

As a general rule of thumb, I think it’s wise to wear clothing that can be worn (and reworn) throughout my trip, and fleece-lined hoodies and sweatpants aren’t exactly versatile when you’re sweating your way through Thailand or The Maldives like I was recently. For my journey back home, I begrudgingly pulled on my new Vuori pants , which I paired with the matching Villa camisole — a stark difference from the swimsuits and sundresses I had been wearing daily for snorkeling and kayaking in the crystal clear ocean, dining at innovative and delicious eateries like Charcoal and The Skipjack Bar, and rejuvenating at the tranquil Avani Spa — and hoped for the best after my blissful few days staying in an idyllic overwater villa at the five-star resort.

Though I was more than bummed to say goodbye to paradise as I knew it, let me just say that these lightweight bottoms exceeded my every expectation and I will continue to wear them on every airplane from here on out. For starters, they take up virtually no space (they crumpled up into a tiny ball that could easily wedge between shoes and souvenirs in my suitcase), and are wonderfully wrinkle-resistant and ultra comfy for hours on end. They kept up with me when I was napping in airport lounges, briskly walking through terminals, or stretching my legs at every opportunity.

What's more, they have a natural stretch woven fabric that drapes beautifully on the body and gives an elevated silky aesthetic that’s anything but basic. But best of all, these breezy Vuori joggers are made with partially recycled materials that are naturally moisture-wicking, which is an absolute godsend when you’re stepping off a tiny sea plane and sweating profusely on a tropical island.

Of course, they boast roomy cargo pockets that conveniently fit your phone and passport, and a stretchy elastic waistband that sits high on the torso for an overall elongating effect. They also dry quickly, which would come in handy if you were ever in a pinch and needed to rinse them out in your hotel sink for multiple days of wear. These joggers currently come in three (nearly sold out) neutral shades and could easily be dressed up or down depending on your choice of fancy footwear or accessories.

See? You don't have to compromise style for comfort, especially when you've got the Vuori Villa Cargo Joggers in your suitcase. If you’re looking for other travel-friendly Vuori finds (I can vouch for just about everything from the brand), keep scrolling for several on-sale items that are not to be missed.

Top Travel Clothes Deals at Vuori:

Vuori clementine shorts 2.0.

If you’re looking for a pair of sporty shorts for summer, these will definitely do the trick. Lightweight, breathable, and flattering, these quick-drying performance bottoms were designed for maximum airflow and feature a mesh lining and elastic waistband to keep you cool on even the hottest days.

Vuori Miles Joggers

Stock up on these versatile joggers, which are currently on sale in both the azure and hazelnut colors. Made with sustainable performance knit material, these breathable, quick-drying bottoms boast four-way stretch and moisture-wicking properties, and would look amazing with a cute crop tank or a brightly colored long-sleeved crewneck this season.

Vuori Lux Intentions Jumpsuit

Jumpsuits are the ultimate one-and-done travel outfits, and Vuori's Lux Intentions one-piece just might be the most comfortable version on the market. The brand's ultra-soft performance stretch knit fabric is the star here, and the jumpsuit features a collared long-sleeve top and wide-leg pants for extra style points. The drawstring waist adds shape so you look put together on your next flight, sightseeing tour, or casual lunch.

I am in love..

I travel quite a lot along the country and was looking for something similar to this where i can explain ppl the roads i took the journey n everything in a short video.. found just the right app.. !!

Great app to go

I travel lot but I was finding a app to express my experience through virtual.. this is a perfect app to customize and express my feelings.. also after sending my Google location I am sending clip for navigation so people also happy to see this kind of anime .. kudos team

Can be better

The app can be made better if it used the actual map (route)data instead of plotting a straight line between the start and destination. Although there are numerous ways of reaching point A to B ( as pointed by the developer) however using apple maps or google maps route navigation data should be a default option and then the user can bend lines or change routes as per their needs.

Developer Response ,

Hi! You can bend the line as you want. Put your finger on the line and move to bend. Our app is not working as navigation system because there are a million ways to get from point A to point B. Navigator can’t guess which way is right. It is sad that you’ve given 1 stars to us.

App Privacy

The developer, ALEXSANDR KUZNETSOV , indicated that the app’s privacy practices may include handling of data as described below. For more information, see the developer’s privacy policy .

Simply put, there's a lot to consider.

But not all policies are created equal, and you must understand what you're covered for before you purchase a policy. This article will look in-depth at AXA Assistance USA travel insurance. • Emergency medical coverage of up to $250,000

Introduction to AXA Travel Insurance

AXA Assistance USA is among the best travel insurance companies . It covers the fundamentals of travel insurance, with coverage for trip cancellations, medical expenses, and emergency medical/non-medical evacuation. With three plans, AXA also offers coverage for travelers with various budgets.

It's worth noting that many important add-ons aren't available for AXA's cheapest Silver plan, such as pre-existing condition coverage, rental car add-ons, and Schengen travel insurance. Cancel for any reason coverage is also only available for AXA's most expensive Platinum plan.

Coverage Options Offered by AXA

AXA Assistance USA offers three levels of coverage: Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Each plan comes with different protections and varying coverage limits, with the Silver being the most basic option and Platinum offering the most premium coverage.

Some policies might even include added coverage free of charge, such as a waiver for pre-existing conditions , which is free for Gold and Platinum plans as long as you purchase your plan within 14 days of your trip deposit.

Specialized Coverage Options

The plan you purchase will determine which add-ons are available. For example, those with a Platinum plan can add CFAR (cancel for any reason) coverage , allowing you to receive a full refund if you cancel your trip within 14 days of making the initial deposit.

Or, if you want extra protection for your rental car, depending on your AXA plan, you might be able to add a collision damage waiver (CDW). Policyholders with Gold plans can add $35,000 CDW, and those with Platinum plans can include $50,000 CDW.

If you're traveling within the Schengen Territory, which is made up of 27 European countries, you may eligible for Schengen Travel Insurance, which covers you in all 27 countries. This option is only available for Gold and Platinum travelers and coverage lasts up to 90 days.

AXA Assistance USA Travel Insurance Cost

The premium you pay will depend on various factors, including the age of the travelers, destination, and total trip costs. The average cost of travel insurance is 4% to 8% of your travel costs.

After inputting some personal information, such as your age and state of residence, along with your trip details, like travel dates, destination, and trip costs, you'll get an instant quote for the plans available for your trip. And from there, it's easy to compare each option based on your coverage needs and budget.

Now let's look at a few examples to estimate AXA's coverage costs.

As of 2024, a 23-year-old from Illinois taking a week-long, $3,000 budget trip to Italy would have the following  AXA travel insurance quotes:

  • AXA Silver: $83
  • AXA Gold: $107
  • AXA Platinum: $127

Premiums for AXA plans are between 2.7% and 4.2% of the trip's cost, well below the average cost of travel insurance. It's also relatively cheap compared to many of its competitors

AXA provides the following quotes for a 30-year-old traveler from California heading to Japan for two weeks on a $4,000 trip:

  • AXA Silver: $109
  • AXA Gold: $128
  • AXA Platinum: $153

Once again, premiums forAXA plans are between 3.6% and 3.8%, below the average cost for travel insurance.

A 65-year-old couple looking to escape New York for Mexico for two weeks with a trip cost of $6,000 would have the following AXA quotes:

  • AXA Silver: $392
  • AXA Gold: $462
  • AXA Platinum: $550

Premiums for AXA plans are between 6.5% and 9.2%, which is roughly in line with the average cost for travel insurance. This is to be expected, as travel insurance is often more expensive for older travelers.

How to Purchase and Manage Your AXA Policy

The process of purchasing an AXA policy is simple. After obtaining your quote, you'll need to decide which of AXA's three plans you want to buy. When you pay for your plan, be prepared to provide additional personal information, like your birthday, phone number, and address.

Once you finalize your purchase, you'll have a 10-day free look period, in which you can cancel your policy and get your money back.

How to File a Claim with AXA Travel Insurance

AXA Customer Service Reviews

AXA's U.S. branch has few reviews on Trustpilot and the Better Business Bureau — just over 20 between the two sites. Its UK branch has over 1,100 reviews, most of which are overwhelmingly negative. However, the quality of AXA Travel Insurance UK isn't necessarily indicative of its U.S. coverage.

In fact, on SquareMouth, where the majority of AXA U.S.'s reviews, reviews are generally positive. It received an average of 4.22 stars out of five across over 900 reviews. Customers reported that adjusting an AXA policy was easy and the customer service team was responsive. However, reviews on the claims process was more mixed, with spotty communication and long wait times.

AXA Assistance USA vs. AIG Travel Guard

When comparing AXA to Travel Guard , we'll look at the coverage levels from their mid-tier plans, the Silver plan and Travel Guard Preferred plan, respectively.

With Travel Guard Preferred plan, you'll get:

  • Trip cancellation coverage up to $150,000
  • Trip interruption coverage up to $225,000
  • Emergency medical coverage of $50,000
  • Coverage for baggage loss, theft, or damage up to $1,000
  • Travel delay coverage of up to $800

Comparing those Travel Guard coverages with AXA's Silver plan, you'll see that AXA's coverage limits are a bit higher. With AXA's Silver plan you'll get $100,000 in emergency medical coverage, for example. And the baggage loss coverage limit is up to $1,500.

If you're looking for greater coverage limits, AXA makes the most sense in this scenario. But premiums will also vary based on factors like the traveler's age, trip destination, and trip cost. So you'll have to run your own numbers to make a final decision.

Read our AIG Travel Insurance review here.

AXA Assistance USA vs. Allianz Travel Insurance

Allianz Travel Insurance provides single-trip and multi-trip insurance for travelers who want to go abroad for an extended period of time. And, like with all insurance, the various plans have varying degrees of coverage.

Allianz Travel Insurance's most popular single-trip option is the OneTrip Prime plan, which offers:

  • Trip cancellation coverage up to $100,000
  • Trip interruption coverage up to $150,000
  • Emergency medical coverage for $50,000
  • Coverage for baggage loss, theft or damage up to $1,000
  • Travel delay coverage up to $800

Looking at AXA's mid-tier Silver plan, you'll see that, again, AXA offers more coverage for emergency medical and baggage loss, theft, or damage than Allianz Travel Insurance. That said, if cost is an essential factor for you, you'll have to get quotes using your personal trip information to make an informed decision.

Read our Allianz Travel Insurance review here.

AXA Assistance USA vs. Credit Card Travel Insurance

Already have a great travel credit card, like the Chase Sapphire Reserve or American Express Platinum? Some of the standard coverages, such as rental car insurance, may be included in the card you already have. It's a good idea to research the terms of your credit card's travel protection before purchasing a separate travel insurance policy.

If you're driving to your destination and don't have any non-refundable trip expenses, the coverage from your credit card may be enough. Another time it might work is if you have health insurance covering you while abroad and you're in good health without worrying about possible medical costs.

It's essential to remember that credit card coverage is usually secondary. This means you'll have to file a claim with the other applicable insurance before filing a claim with your credit card company.

Read our guide on the best credit cards with travel insurance here.

Why You Should Trust Us: How We Reviewed AXA Assistance USA

We researched AXA by evaluating its travel insurance plans compared to other plans from the top travel insurance companies. The aspects we looked at included, but were not limited to, different coverage options, claims limits, what is covered, available add-ons, and extra services for policy holders.

What's important when choosing a policy isn't just the price — it's making sure you're getting adequate coverage that meets your needs without breaking the bank. Filing a claim should also be easy and stress-free if you ever have to use your policy.

AXA Assistance USA FAQs

If you're diagnosed with COVID-19 before a trip and need to cancel, AXA may cover your expenses. Additionally, a COVID-19 diagnosis during a trip may be covered under AXA's medical expense, trip interruption, and trip delay benefits. Be sure to review your policy to ensure coverage details.

While you may extend your coverage in certain circumstances, such as extended hospitalization, and update your travel dates prior to your departure, you can't extend AXA travel insurance plans while you're traveling.

AXA's Gold and Platinum plan cover pre-existing medical conditions as long as you purchase your policy within 14 days of your initial trip deposit. AXA's Silver plan does not cover pre-existing conditions and has a 60-day look-back period.

You can download AXA claims forms on its website and email them to [email protected].

AXA isn't the most flexible travel insurance company and isn't great at specializing, but it offers comprehensive general coverage. Its prices aren't significantly more expensive or cheaper than its competitors.

Sailing on Silversea's luxurious and exquisitely designed Silver Nova ship is dreamy in itself, but add to that an incredible itinerary including the iconic Panama Canal and you have yourself a bucket-list cruise.

As a solo traveller , I was pleasantly surprised by how well solo guests are looked after, with nightly solo traveller drinks, hosted by the friendly guest relations team. I made some fantastic friends here on day one, which turned into a group who met for dinners, drinks on deck and post-trip conversations.

Some people book their excursions as soon as they are released, but I booked mine the day I arrived and still managed to get on my desired trips. However, I would recommend booking tours and activities in advance, if possible, to avoid disappointment.

For me, the stand-out excursion had to be my first Mayan ruins experience, in Belize. It was certainly worth the hike to see the fascinating geometric carvings face to face, and the tasty traditional lunch of Belize chicken, rice and beans beforehand certainly helped keep us going.

Another exciting excursion was the all-terrain vehicle trip through the rainforest in Costa Rica. Seeing the colourful flora and fauna comfortably from inside was fun, then we got out for a stroll where our guide pointed out local species such as the eye-catching bright red poison dart frog.

In Honduras, we were exposed to the culture with song and dance, history lesson opposite the bright blue sea from a knowledgeable local, as well as a taste of the traditional taro bread.

The high point, however, was traversing the Panama Canal. Guests sat together in the plush panoramic lounge, with mimosas in hand, eagerly waiting to pass through the first lock. It felt monumental, and the Panamanian cooking class and talk about the history of the canal, as well as the Panamanian dance show in the evening, made the day all the more memorable.

During "sea days" there are a host of activities to choose from, including dance classes, language classes, and even origami. My favourite was the quiz sessions – especially since my team won a few times!

For a more relaxing pastime, pay a visit to the smart Otium spa, where you're offered champagne upon arrival before an exfoliating and nourishing 'Roman Bliss' massage.

Silver Nova room

A cabin should be a place you look forward to retreating to after an adventurous day on excursion, or even a fun-filled day at sea, and my cabin was a real haven.

There is a choice of toiletries, from pH-balanced Sebamed to luxuriously scented Bvlgari, and my attentive butler made sure I received the right ones. My delicious ganache chocolates were also topped up daily.

The bathroom was very spacious, with clean lines and Carrara marble finish, which was carried through to tabletops in the suite. The walk-in closet meant I could stash my suitcase, with plenty of space to unpack and hang all my clothes, and ample shelving too.

I also had a desk, a dressing area with plug sockets adapting to all nationalities, and a comfortable sofa to sit. If I wanted to dine outside, there was also a balcony with two chairs and a table.

Eating and drinking

Silver Nova food - La Terraza restaurant sushi

Breakfast can be eaten at a few venues, as well as a room service, which was popular with guests, set up on their balconies and always brought on time.

I particularly enjoyed the 'healthy' options at the Marquee restaurant which also offers fabulous poke bowls for lunch, or you could order an excellent pizza from adjacent restaurant Spaccanapoli, which are cooked in a traditional oven.

There's a broad, ever-changing buffet menu at La Terrazza for lunch – its dessert selection is huge and for dinner Italian classics shine. At delicately designed Japanese restaurant Kaiseki, there's sushi and hearty ramen bowls, among a larger dinner selection.

At my favourite, the S.A.L.T restaurant, where the menu centres on the country you're in, try some of their local cuisine, elevated yet authentic. You can enjoy some jazz accompaniment at La Dame, the ship's signature French restaurant.

Throughout the day I popped into the Arts Café for delicious coffee – always a plus –or a slice of cake and fresh juice in a light-filled space that's a joy to sit in.

One evening I fancied something chocolate-y and ended up with one of the best brownies ever from the room service menu.

The verdict

This voyage took me on an incredible journey from Fort Lauderdale to Cozumel, Belize to Roatan, Honduras and Costa Rica to Panama.

As well as the journey, Silversea adds exciting context to the countries you are visiting, from cooking classes that highlight the fascinating cuisines, to talks giving the background history and much more – all creating an incredible and unforgettable trip.

Yasemen Kaner-White was a guest on the Silver Nova ship, and her trip was a segment of the Fort Lauderdale, US to Callao, Peru voyage.

Door-to-door fare is £9,700 per person based on double occupancy in a Classic Veranda (including private executive airport transfers, overnight hotel stay, round trip flights, food and beverage on board, butler service, expedition gear and shore excursions). Time travel and surveillance state paranoia collide in a witty, thought-provoking romance novel

Book Review

The Ministry of Time

By Kaliane Bradley Avid Reader Press: 352 pages, $28.99 If you buy books linked on our site, The Times may earn a commission from Bookshop.org , whose fees support independent bookstores.

“People aren’t history,” scoffs Adela, vice secretary of the Ministry, whose work is shrouded in secrecy and subterfuge. This retort comes late in Kaliane Bradley’s debut novel, “The Ministry of Time,” but it’s a telling line. Its dismissal of individual lives reveals the novel’s stakes. If people aren’t history, what is? This is a disturbing statement to come out of the mouth of a high-ranking British bureaucrat. For a book that could also be easily described as witty, sexy escapist fiction, “The Ministry of Time” packs a substantial punch.

Of late, many critically acclaimed books embrace mystery and absurdity in a way that both suspends and expands conventionally held notions of time. Hilary Leichter’s “Terrace Story,” National Book Critics Circle award winner Lorrie Moore’s “I Am Not Homeless If This Is Not My Home,” Ali Smith’s “Companion Piece,” National Book Award winner Justin Torres’ “Blackouts,” and Marie-Helene Bertino’s “Beautyland,” among others, forge poignant, bracing emotional connections. Their playfulness reveals possibilities and perspectives that might be lost in a novel bound by fact-checked 21st century reality. After all, in a world where nothing feels normal, fiction that embraces a disregard for physics and convention mirrors our new upside-down quotidian life.

The Ministry of Time cover with the title in 3-D in many colors against a dark background

To this end, Kaliane Bradley proves that it’s possible to address imperialism, the scourge of bureaucracy, cross-cultural conflict and the paranoia inherent in a surveillance state through her utterly entertaining novel. “The Ministry of Time” begins with a sixth-round job interview for an undisclosed position. The unnamed narrator is caught off guard when “the interviewer said my name, which made my thoughts clip. I don’t say my name, not even in my head. She’d said it correctly, which people generally don’t.” For the narrator, who “plateaued” as a “translator-consultant” in the Languages department of the Ministry of Defense, this top-secret job that pays three times her current salary is worth the mystery.

Soon the work is disclosed. The narrator, whose mother immigrated to the United Kingdom from Cambodia, will be working closely with people who might bristle at the term “refugees.” She’s now part of the Ministry of Expatriation working with one of five “expats” scavenged from the past. Confident in her storytelling, Bradley sweeps away the details of how and why time travel exists in the novel.

Rachel Khong

A disorienting, masterful, shape-shifting novel about multiracial identity

Rachel Khong’s irresistible puzzle of a second novel suggests it is a mistake to think we can force complex, nature-nurture identities in a chosen direction.

“All you need to know is that in your near future, the British government developed the means to travel through time but had not yet experimented with doing it.” With that, from the jump, readers and characters alike are asked to take a leap of faith as the narrator assumes the role of a “bridge” between an “expat” and modern life. The larger purpose of her work is elusive to her as well, but, in short, the narrator is tasked to be the roommate of an explorer named Commander Graham Gore who died on a doomed Royal Navy Arctic exhibition in 1847. He’s mannered, understandably jumpy, but also rather sexy for someone who died close to 200 years ago. Will this be an odd sort of meet-cute, or is something more chaotic afoot?

Buckle up, the ride has just begun. Juggling notions of “hereness” (the present) and “thereness” (the past), the novel’s five expats come to grips — or not — with the fact that they have been snatched from the past. The ministry selected individuals who were on the point of death so that their departures from the past would in no way rupture their historic timelines. But how would they affect the present? The bridges take notes, and medical examinations are de rigueur, but these collected data are merely passed along without much in the way of analysis.

The expats and bridges adjust to life together in a largely amusing fashion, sharing lovely homes provided by the ministry, visiting pubs, learning about the very existence of cinema. Music streaming services are a hit, but, generally speaking, the expats find it hard to accept the scale of modern life. Whether this is due to some physical mutation created by the process of time travel or if it’s merely the challenge of cultural displacement for people “loose as dust in narrative time,” true fissures begin to surface.

How many lives can one author live? In new short stories, Amor Towles invites us along for the ride

For fans who worry that a volume comprising six stories and a novella won’t serve up the deeper delights of his novels, prepare for what may be Towles’ best book yet.

March 29, 2024

In a manner that feels wholly unsurprising to the reader, suspicions arise as to the nature of the project. Why exactly is there a need for secrecy and what are the particulars about this ability to time travel that we’re asked to tacitly accept? Tensions also flare between the narrator and another bridge, Simellia, who are the two people of color in this tightly knit circle. The specter of imperialism looms and informs a certain tension between the narrator and Gore. Yet, as a green bureaucrat, happy to rise in the ranks, she confronts Simellia, saying, “You signed up for this job… [knowing], as much as I did, that what we were doing was world-changing. That’s what you wanted, remember? Do you think the world changes by being asked politely? Or do you think there has to be risk?”

But this brash confidence begins to waver. The narrator recognizes, “Every time I gave Graham a book, I was trying to shunt him along a story I’d been telling myself all my life.” Then she notes that the ministry “fed us all poison from a bottle marked ‘prestige’ and we developed a high tolerance for bitterness.” While the book does assume some obvious postures of university level post-colonial theory and language, it moves past these more cliched moments by focusing its attention on the characters. A tight narrative rich with witty banter, cutting observations and interspersed passages from Gore’s doomed expedition also keep the novel taut.

“Maybe I was tired of stories, telling them and hearing them,” muses the narrator. Curiously, while she made languages her profession (hence her tendency to consider that “the great project of Empire was to categorize: owned and owner, coloniser and colonised, evolué and barbarian, mine and yours.”), her antagonistic younger sister became a writer. Finding herself falling in love with Gore, the narrator becomes the story, upending history.

As the story’s momentum builds into that of a spy thriller, Bradley pulls off a rare feat. “The Ministry of Time” is a novel that doesn’t stoop to easy answers and doesn’t devolve into polemic. It’s a smart, gripping work that’s also a feast for the senses. An assassination, moles, questions of identity and violence wreak havoc on our happy lovers and the bubble they create in London. Yet our affection for them is as fresh and thrilling as theirs is for one another, two explorers of a kind, caught in a brilliant discovery. Bradley’s written an edgy, playful and provocative book that’s likely to be the most thought-provoking romance novel of the summer. Check your history: That’s no small feat.

Politics latest: London mayor attacks reports of leaked audio from Reform meeting

Sadiq Khan has responded to reports of leaked audio from a Reform UK meeting in which Lee Anderson said ministers had supported his controversial remarks about the London mayor. Meanwhile, the Scottish government has survived a vote of no confidence ahead of an SNP leadership contest.

The Sky News live poll tracker - collated and updated by our Data and Forensics team - aggregates various surveys to indicate how voters feel about the different political parties.

With the local election campaign well under way, Labour is still sitting comfortably ahead, with the Tories trailing behind.

See the latest update below - and you can read more about the methodology behind the tracker  here .

The week has kicked off with a huge political story - the resignation of Humza Yousaf - and will end with another, as voters across England and Wales turn out for the local elections.

Sky's political reporter Alexandra Rogers   has looked ahead to a potentially defining night for Rishi Sunak's premiership, when hundreds of council seats, police and crime commissioner jobs, and mayoral posts will be up for grabs.

Read her full explainer below:

Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, has said it is "deeply depressing" that Tory party staff have allegedly "cheered on anti-Muslim hatred" after reports of leaked audio from a Reform UK meeting.

It has been alleged that Reform UK member Lee Anderson made the claim at a gathering in Kettering on Friday in a leaked recording heard by ITV News.

He allegedly said cabinet ministers were among those who gave their support after he was suspended from the Conservative Party.

One person reportedly told him: "Rishi has thrown you under the bus."

Mr Anderson was suspended from the Conservative Party after saying he believed "Islamists" had taken over control of London and Mr Khan.

He later defected to Reform UK.

In response, Mr Khan said: "We have a former Tory party deputy chair caught on camera being racist.

"It is deeply depressing that he confirms his Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hatred was cheered on by current Tory party staff, MPs and cabinet ministers.

"It's unpatriotic to talk down modern, diverse, brilliant Britain in this way. And it has real-world consequences, fuelling hate crime and violent threats.

"The London mayoral election tomorrow will be close between Labour and the Tories. The choice is between Labour who are building a fairer, green, safer London for everyone - or the Tory candidate who wants to divide our communities and take London backwards."

A CCHQ spokesperson said: "A vote for Reform is a vote for Sir Keir Starmer and the Labour Party, taking us right back to square one.

"Only the Conservative Party is sticking to the plan, and delivering on the people's priorities."

Bin collections, potholes, local schools and town centres: Ruth Davidson and Jess Phillips were right in our Electoral Dysfunction podcast last week when they talked about these issues being the political meat of local elections when it comes to what voters want to talk about on the doorstep.

But it's true too that this set of local elections is hugely significant as the final big ballot test we're going to get before a general election.

Some 28 million people across England and Wales have the option of casting a vote - be it for councillors, mayors, London Assembly members or police and crime commissioners - and Labour is using this polling day as a dry run for a general election, testing their arguments, focusing their spending and attention in local battlegrounds where they need to win for general election victory.

And while much of the attention in the run-up to polling day has been on whether the results will trigger a full-blown leadership crisis for the Tories, what's perhaps more relevant to you the voters is what these elections tell us about the prospect of a majority Labour government.

Back to our political editor Beth Rigby 's conversation with Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, in which the topic of the Rwanda scheme was raised.

Beth asks about reports Labour may retain the migration flights for some time in government until they negotiate different returns agreements with the EU.

He says: "No, I don't believe in the scheme.

"I don't think it will work. I know we have to stop the boats. I want to get going with our plan.

"Stop the boats on day one, which requires us to stop the gangs that are running this vile trade or to work with law enforcement across the borders to make sure that people are not getting the boats in the first place.

"And that's why I've already had discussions in The Hague (including with EU law enforcement agency Europol) about how quickly we can share data intelligence to do that.

"I'm absolutely determined to tackle this problem because the government has lost control of the borders.

"What I'm not going to do is flog a dead horse."

Our flagship weeknight politics show  Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge  will be live on Sky News from 7pm.

The fast-paced programme dissects the inner workings of Westminster, with interviews, insights, and analysis - bringing you, the audience, into the corridors of power.

Sophy will be joined by Northern Ireland Secretary  Chris Heaton-Harris  and former England cricket star  Monty Panesar , who's standing at the next election for George Galloway's Worker's Party.

She will also speak to  Chancellor Jeremy Hunt  ahead of the local elections.

And on her panel tonight will be:

  • Guto Harri , former aide to Boris Johnson;
  • Andrew Fisher , former head of policy for Jeremy Corbyn.

Watch live on Sky News, in the stream at the top of this page, and follow live updates here in the Politics Hub.

The conversation with Sir Keir Starmer now turns to the Hartlepool by-election in 2021, which was triggered after the resignation of Labour's Mike Hill.

The Conservative candidate Jill Mortimer won with 51.9% of the vote - and a swing from Labour of almost 16%

Beth Rigby asks if the Labour leader considered resigning that day.

He said: "I did, because I didn't feel that I should be bigger than the party and if I couldn't bring about the change, perhaps there should be a change.

"But actually, in the end, I reflected on it, talked to very many people and doubled down and determined… no, it's the change in the Labour Party that we need.

"And I do feel vindicated, because we are now a changed party."

Sir Keir adds the by-election loss was a "low point" and "it really hit me because my job was to turn around the Labour Party and take us from defeat to success".

He adds: "Losing hurts, and it should hurt in politics because this isn't about me, it is about whether the Labour Party can come back into government and serve working people so yes, it was a very, very low moment.

"It required me then to double down and turbocharge the change that we needed in the Labour Party, so in that respect, retrospectively it was a good thing because it forced that onward pace, but I am not going to pretend it wasn’t a really hard time."

Sir Keir Starmer has today reiterated that the Labour Party "need to show progress" in the local elections on Thursday, despite being around 20 points ahead in the polls.

He tells our political editor Beth Rigby : "We have to show progress, there is no doubt about that.

"We're a changed Labour Party, we have to show that people have the confidence and the trust to vote for this changed Labour Party."

The Labour leader says: "The polls don't predict the future.

"The polls don't change the country, but I'll be looking for that progress."

Beth asks what this progress would ideally be.

"We want to make gains, there's no doubt about it. We're here at Harlow, we need and want to take this council.

"The feeling if you talk to our activists - there is optimism on the ground."

He is then asked about mayoral elections, and what he believes his prospects are in the West Midlands, where Labour is up against Tory mayor Andy Street.

Sir Keir admits this will be "a fight", adding: "It's going to be very, very tight."

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has today insisted the government's Rwanda scheme is a "gimmick" after it was confirmed police have raided the homes of the first people to be deported.

It comes following the recent passing of the Safety of Rwanda Act, which declared the central African nation safe following concerns raised by the Supreme Court last year.

Asked about this today, Sir Keir said: "The Rwanda scheme is a gimmick. We don’t support it and we won't be implementing it."

Starmer vows to 'take down gangs'

Sir Keir continued: "And the proof is absolutely clear. The prime minister did a victory speech on Rwanda a week ago on Monday.

"Since then 1,300 people have arrived by small boats. The legislation got royal assent last Thursday. Since then 900 people have arrived by small boats and 230 arrived yesterday, and just one person has gone on a voluntary basis to Rwanda.

"Nobody but nobody could think that this is going to work.

"The real work has to be done on stopping the boats by taking down the gangs that are running the vile trade in the first place, and that's why I have already been over to The Hague to talk to law enforcement about how if we are privileged to come into power we can tackle this from day one at cause and stop people from arriving by small boats in the first place."

The government has opened a consultation on the disability support system PIP (Personal Independence Payment), meaning eligibility criteria and other aspects of it could change.

Proposed changes come as part of the prime minister's pledge to reform the welfare system if the Conservatives win the next general election.

The criteria for getting PIP could change, as could the types of payments received by those who are eligible.

But what is PIP, who is able to get it, what is the government planning to change and who would be impacted?

Here's what you need to know.
