How to Unlock Classic Controls

Unfortunately, you can’t switch to Classic Controls as soon as you start the World Tour mode. The option becomes available only upon completing the first chapter.

When you hit the second chapter, a message will appear. It’ll inform you about the Classic Control scheme. That’s when you’ll be able to select either Modern or Classic.

In order to change your playstyle, open the menu and then go to options. Go to the Control tab and change the World Tour Control Scheme.

When you launch Street Fighter 6, you will have the option to start up the single-player World Tour Mode. This game mode allows you to use your own avatar and learn from various Street Fighter legends like Chun-li and Ryu.

By default, this game mode will have you using the modern controls. These are streamlined to help you perform better in a fight but they don’t compare to the classic controls that some players prefer. How to turn on classic controls in Street Fighter 6

Switching to the classic controls is pretty simple. After entering the game, press the options button or ESC key to access the multi-menu. Once there, select the options tab. From the options menu, navigate to the controls tab.

Street Fighter 6 has one of the lowest barriers to entry for a fighting game, and that's thanks to providing two control scheme choices. Classic will appeal to the majority of longtime Street Fighter fans, retaining the movement and inputs they all know and love. Capcom has also created the Modern control scheme, a slightly simplified version that can automatically input combo strings, condenses the number of buttons, and takes away some of the more complex movement.

It's a great addition for those who are just getting started out in the 2D fighting world, and as a result, Capcom has set everyone's control scheme to Modern by default. Not everyone will want that though, and finding the settings to change it is surprisingly unintuitive. Those looking to default to Classic controls will have to sift through a couple of menus to change it, with the online Battle Hub and singleplayer World Tour modes having different ways of toggling it.

So if you're looking to get your full six-button layout and movement inputs back on your pad, here's how to change your controls to Classic mode in both World Tour and the Battle Hub.

How to enable Classic controls in World Tour 

If you're looking to enable Classic controls straight off the bat, you're out of luck. The game forces you to play with Modern controls for the first chapter, but it's mercifully an incredibly short one. Once Chapter 2 begins, you'll be able to swap to your preferred control scheme on the fly.

To do this, hit Start on your controller or fight stick, or Escape on your keyboard to bring up the main menu. From here, head over to Options. You'll want to switch over to the Controls tab and head down to Avatar Battle Control Type. You can then switch between Classic and Modern as you please. This will also change the control scheme for your player-versus-player avatar battles in the Battle Hub.

Note that you'll have to assign your special and super moves individually for each control type. Make sure to open up your phone with Options on your controller/fight stick, or Spacebar on your keyboard, head over to Status, and then to the Special Moves and Super Arts tabs to sort out your customisable moveset. 

How to turn on Classic controls in Battle Hub 

When you first enter the Battle Hub, Street Fighter 6 will have you set up with Luke on Modern controls by default. You'll need to change your character before you sit down at a cabinet to square off against your opponent, and it's also where you can switch up your control scheme.

Hit X/Square on your pad of choice, or R on your keyboard to bring up the battle settings. Tab over to Character, where you'll find Street Fighter 6's roster to select from. Go to the character you want to play and hit Y/Triangle on your pad or T on your keyboard to bring up yet another menu for specific character settings. From here, you can change things like the costume and colour, but you can also switch over to Classic controls and select your button preset.

Interestingly, Street Fighter 6 allows you to assign different control types to individual characters. If you prefer a certain fighter on Modern controls, you can isolate them to that control scheme. But if you want everyone using the Classic style (or vice versa), you can hit Y/Triangle/T again to apply your chosen type to the entire roster. Now you're all set up and ready to kick some 2D butt.

If you’re looking to familiarize yourself more with your chosen fighter and how they play, rather than what’s most optimal for them, then I recommend switching to Modern for an initial level of comfort.

While Street Fighter 6 Modern controls are perfect for beginners, Classic takes a more getting used to if you’re new to the genre. Classic retains Street Fighter’s traditional 6-button layout; that’s light, medium and heavy punches and kicks all assigned to different buttons. 

This means you’ll need to input your desired combo strings and Drive Gauge abilities with more precision. However, Classic will reward you for your time and effort by allowing you to squeeze every ounce of potential out of your favorite character, should you put in the time to learn.

Special moves require full motion inputs to perform. For example, Ryu’s Hadouken projectile requires the quarter-circle-forward motion on the controller or one of the best fight sticks . Similarly, anti-air special moves like Cammy’s Cannon Spike will require the ‘DP’ motion (forward, down, forward-down) for successful activation.

Classic controls are how Street Fighter, and most other fighting games, have always operated, but they can be a tad intimidating if you’re fresh to the best fighting games out there. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to work yourself up to, but don’t be afraid to start out on Street Fighter 6 Modern controls if you’re just dipping a toe into the water. 

How to change your Street Fighter 6 control scheme

When you load up Street Fighter 6 for the first time, Modern controls are enabled by default, and it’s also the default control scheme in World Tour mode. However, you can change your preferred control scheme at any time by simply pressing the Menu button on your controller and navigating to the Options menu.

In the Options menu, you can customize your Street Fighter 6 experience with a range of visual, audio, accessibility and controller settings. But if it’s Modern controls you’re after, simply head to the Controls tab and select Play 1 Side Control Settings. Here you can switch between Modern and Classic control schemes as well as Dynamic which is only available for offline play.

If you want to change the control scheme for your player-created character, select Avatar Battle Control Type from the Controls submenu. This will affect your controls in World Tour mode as well as for custom character battles in the online Battle Hub.

Street Fighter 6 Modern vs Classic controls: which should you pick?

As we've mentioned, Modern controls are a great place to start if you are new to the Street Fighter series, or fighting games in general. They're also just worth trying out in general, as you may find them more suited to your particular play style and personal circumstances. You can always switch to Classic if you're not gelling with how the game feels by default.

Classic mode is well worth working your way up to, and will be the main choice for those familiar with fighting games. Thankfully, there's really no reason why you can't switch between the two schemes, so give yourself some time to ease into Street Fighter 6 at first. Once you've found your rhythm, you can experiment in different game modes, and with different characters.

Street Fighter 6 – How to Switch Controls in World Tour Mode

Street Fighter 6 is the first entry in the series to give players the option of using multiple control types. While Dynamic Controls are meant for more casual play, as it essentially allows newcomers to perform cool combos by pressing a single button, Modern and Classic controls give players better control of their characters.

These two control types are also available in World Tour mode for your avatar characters, but switching between them is not as intuitive as it is for all the characters in other play modes. You will also need to make some progress in the single-player mode before you are able to do so.

How to switch controls in world tour mode in street fighter 6.

At the start of Street Fighter 6's World Tour mode, you will be able to control your avatar using Modern Controls, but you will be unable to switch between Classic and Modern Controls until you reach a certain point in Chapter 1.

After completing some tutorial missions teaching you the basics of World Tour mode and of Modern Controls, you and Bosch will team up to fight Luke. As your character will be at a pretty low level at this point in the campaign, you will likely be defeated. Don't fret, however, as even a loss will move the story forward.

After this battle has been completed, you will finally become able to switch between Modern and Classic controls. To do so, open up the Multi Menu, pick Options, then head to the Controls tab and then select the Avatar Battle Control type.

Now that Street Fighter 6 is finally here, fans are racing to fight their way to the top of online leaderboards as well as through the many excellent challenges in the game’s single-player World Tour mode. So far, Street Fighter 6 has seen incredible critical success and already seems to be a major hit among long-term fans of the fighting series. Thanks to how well it’s performing, more newcomers are flocking to the series than ever before.

Luckily, Street Fighter 6 is easy to pick up for newcomers with its revamped, Modern control scheme that simplifies inputs, giving new players a hand at picking up the game. A low bar for entry is always a good thing since it means that anyone can pick up a game and start playing, however, given Street Fighter ‘s history in the fighting game space, there are still plenty of players who want to experience the game using the controls and inputs they’re used to.

For those people, Capcom included a Classic control mode that gives them the ability to play Street Fighter 6 as if it were a classic game in the series. Here’s how to turn on Classic controls.

How to Turn on Classic Controls in Street Fighter 6

By default, the controls in Street Fighter 6 are set to the Modern setting which is best for newcomers to the franchise. While that’s a good thing for those who are picking up the Street Fighter series for the first time, veteran fans will want to switch to Classic mode. Luckily, making the switch is very simple.

When you first begin World Tour mode, you won’t be able to switch your control style. To do that, you’ll have to play through the game’s first chapter. Luckily, it’s extremely short. Play through the chapter and then, in Chapter 2, open the main menu by pressing start (or ESC on PC) and go to the Options menu. Here, move over to the “Controls” tab and then find the “Avatar Battle Control Type” setting. This menu is short as it only has one option. Switch the type over from “Modern” to “Classic.” Once you do, exit the menu and you’ll find the game to control just as the classic games of Street Fighter ‘s past did.

Similar to World Tour mode, you’ll be using Modern controls by default when you first get started in the Battle Hub. To change the controls, you’ll need to go into the settings when you pick your character before starting a fight.

When you’re on the character select screen, highlight the character you want to play as and then hit the triangle button on PlayStation, the Y button on Xbox, or the T key on PC. This will pull up the character settings menu. From here, you’ll be able to change to alternate character outfits, change with button inputs, and change the control scheme to “Classic.” Take note, that when you use this method, you’ll only have changed the control style for the highlighted character.

In order to lower the difficulty of controls for new players, Capcom has introduced a new type of Control Scheme named Modern Control Scheme. The game initially introduces you to the Modern Control Scheme in the World Tour which would be a new thing for the old players and can be confusing. Change Modern or Classic Controls Schemes in Fighting Grounds Mode

The Fighting Grounds Mode is a versus mode in which you will get to practice against a CPU Fighter or fight a friendly match with your friends. Now, in order to change the Control Scheme in the Fighting Grounds, you can find the Control Type option under the Costume and Color options after selecting the character. Before finalizing the character, change the Control Type to Classic or Modern as your preference.

Change Modern or Classic Controls Schemes in World Tour Mode

The World Tour Mode is the Story Mode of Street Fighter 6 and when you will get to engage in your first street fight with an NPC, you will be introduced to the Modern Control Scheme. Initially, you will have to play the first chapter of the story with the Modern Control Scheme before you get to change it to Classic. In order to change the Control Scheme, you need to press the Options Button on the controller to go to the main menu and then select Options. Switch the Tab to Controls and alter the Control Scheme for the Avatar Battle Control Type option to change the control scheme in World Tour Mode.

You can also change the Player 1 and Player 2 Control Types right above the Avatar Battle Control Type option that will set the default Control Scheme for the players in Fighting Grounds.

Change Modern or Classic Controls Scheme in Battle Hub Mode

In the Battle Hub Mode, you will take the fight to the other real players out there and fight with them for rank and much more. Fighting in Ranked Matches will have higher risk and pressure so, you do want to give your A Game out there. In order to change the Controls Scheme in Battle Hub, you need to press the Options Button to go to the main menu and then select the Profile option. Press the Square Button to go to the Battle Settings and then hover over your preferable character. Press the Triangle Button to Update Character Settings and you will find the Control Type option in there. Now, if you press the Triangle Button again after changing the control scheme, the set Control Scheme will be applied to all of the characters.

Street Fighter 6 offers two different control schemes for the World Tour mode: Modern Controls and Classic Controls. Modern Controls are designed for players who are new to the Street Fighter series, while Classic Controls are designed for players who are familiar with older Street Fighter games.

How to enable SF6 world tour classic controls?

SF6 World Tour Classic Controls offer a more traditional fighting game experience. To enable Classic Controls in World Tour mode, follow these steps:

• Open the main menu.
• Select “Options.”
• Select the “Controls” tab.
• Under “Avatar Battle Control Type,” select “Classic.”

Press “X” or “A” to confirm.

Once you have enabled Classic Controls, you will be able to use the traditional Street Fighter control scheme in World Tour mode. This scheme uses six buttons:

• Punch:  This button is used to perform light punches.
• Kick:  This button is used to perform light kicks.
• Strong Punch:  This button is used to perform medium punches.

How To Change To Classic Controls In Street Fighter 6

Learn how to change control settings from Modern to Classic in Street Fighter 6.

Street Fighter 6 features two control settings called Classic and Modern but does not tell you how to change it. In an intense fighting game like this, it’s crucial to know all the controls to perform all the combos. Veteran Street Fighter players may favor the classic settings since they were in the previous installments. However, you can easily learn the combos with Modern Controls if you’re new to the game. In any case, we will tell you how to change controls in SF6.

How to Change to Classic Controls in Street Fighter 6 Battle Hub

In Street Fighter 6 Battle Hub mode, your default settings will be set on Modern Controls. To change your controls to the Classic settings in this online battle mode:

• Open your Profile Menu by pressing the Square/X button on your controller.
• Then, navigate to the Character tab next to Matchmaking.
• Now select the “Details” option.
• Navigate to the Control Type option and change it to Classic.
• Then, press Triangle/Y to apply the change to all characters.

If you don’t do the final step, then all the other characters will still have Modern settings. You can check your settings in the match by looking above the health bar. You’ll notice either an M or C based on the settings you’re using.

How to Change Controls in SF6 World Tour

If you’re playing the World Tour mode, then the process of changing your controller settings is slightly different. To change the settings, you must complete the first chapter with Modern Controls. Once you complete the chapter, open your Main Menu and go to the Options tab. Then, navigate to the Controls tab and select Avatar Battle Control Type. You can change the control settings to Classic or Modern here.

The drive system.

You'll start games with a fully stocked drive bar

• Drive Impact: An attack that absorbs enemy hits and hits them with a powerful attack. Blocking this move in the corner will give your opponent a heavy damage combo, while midscreen you just get pushed back. Comparable to the Focus Attack from Street Fighter IV.
• Drive Parry: If you keep the Parry pressed, you constantly spend Drive, but parry all attacks during this time other than throws. Parrying with perfect timing triggers a Perfect Parry which will freeze the screen and sometimes allow punishes where the opponent would usually be safe.. It's reminiscent of the Parry mechanics from Street Fighter III.
• Overdrive: Moves can be boosted with Overdrive. The equivalent in older parts of the series are EX moves.
• Drive Rush: A dash cancel for attacks and parries, normals performed after Drive Rush will have more advantage than usual, allowing for frame traps or combos when you’d usually have to end your pressure. Canceling a parry with Drive Rush costs less drive than canceling an attack. An analogy to this is the FADC from Street Fighter IV.

During the World of Warcraft Classic Classic: What's Next panel at BlizzCon 2023, Lead Software Engineer Ana Resendez, Senior Game Producer Josh Greenfield, Lead Software Engineer Nora Valletta, and Assistant Lead Designer Tim Jones opened the door to take a closer look at some of what's coming next to Classic Azeroth.

The Journey So Far

The panel was kicked off with a look at the Classic journey so far, with progression realms taking Classic players through Original WoW Classic, The Burning Crusade Classic, and Wrath of the Lich King Classic, where players are currently facing the Lich King in Icecrown Citadel.

As previously announced, Classic progression realms will advance to Cataclysm Classic next year, bringing players to the exciting aftermath of Deathwing's assault on Azeroth, along with playable Goblins and Worgen, new Race and Class combinations, the Transmogrification system, Archaeology, and Rated Battlegrounds. The Classic release of Cataclysm also means five new zones, ten new dungeons, and seven challenging raids to overcome.

There will also be some new tweaks to Cataclysm Classic, including new dungeon difficulties and rewards, guild progression updates, an account-wide Transmogrification system, and a faster patch cadence on the journey to 80.

Classic Hardcore Gets More Hardcore

Hardcore mode was a great success for the WoW Classic community this year, and many players wanted to know what Hardcore without trading would be like. The devs announced that a Self-Found gameplay option will come to WoW Classic: Hardcore in early 2024.

November Will See a New Season of Discovery

In developing a new twist on WoW Classic, the devs pursued four major kinds of updates: discoveries hidden throughout the world, level-banded content phases, new endgame activities, and new Rune Engraving abilities.

Discoveries

Discoveries are new, hidden secrets all over Azeroth designed to feel at home in Original WoW and bring about a unique experience of social interaction and information sharing. There will not be a public Beta or PTR for Season of Discovery to ensure that the first few weeks feel as exciting and fresh as possible.

Level-Banded Content

Level-banded content phases were inspired by the WoW Classic Beta, where level caps brought about a new and interesting take on gameplay and community. By stepping up to a new level cap after a period of time, we hope to make the season feel approachable, with lots to do but never a feeling of being left behind. To that end, we're working on low-level XP boosts for use in later phases.

Endgame Gameplay

New mechanics to familiar settings and characters are being introduced. Each Raid that marks the level cap of a phase will be fully redesigned with new loot and new experiences. World PvP events for players who'd prefer to go head-to-head are also being added.

Rune Engraving

Rune Engraving is a new set of skills for all players that exists outside of the talent system. It allows you to apply new abilities to your equipment and swap them at any time. To start at level 25, you'll have three slots to engrave: chest, legs, and hands, with additional rune slots unlocking at higher levels.

Class Design

The team's goals were to shake up the Classic meta, give each class something fun drawn from some of our favorite abilities across the first several expansions of World of Warcraft, with some fun new abilities tossed in as well, and focus on class fantasy while staying true to the Classic game.

Blackfathom Deeps

We got a big-picture look at Season of Discovery and learned about the first fully redesigned Raid for the level 25 endgame: Blackfathom Deeps . For the first three challenging bosses—Baron Aquanis, Ghamoo-ra, and Lady Sarevess—players will be pressed to learn new tactics and strategies. This was followed by a quick look at the other four bosses and then a sneak peek at some level 25 Raid loot that will drop.
