An upcoming cruise will sail around the world in 180 days for up to $300,000 — see what it'll be like

  • Viking has announced a 180-day cruise that will circumavigate the globe from 2024 to 2025.
  • The cruise will travel to 85 ports across 37 countries and five continents.
  • The vacation ranges from around $80,000 to $300,000 depending on the stateroom or suite.

Why rush to travel around the world in 80 days when you can do so in 180 days aboard a luxurious cruise ship?

viking cruise 180 days

Viking has announced its latest Viking World Voyage I, a 2024 to 2025 cruise that will sail around the world in 180 days.

And if this itinerary sells as well as the cruise line's past global sailings, this 180-day vacation could be fully booked in the coming weeks.

viking cruise 180 days

Over the last two years, Viking's world cruises have booked exceptionally well.

Its previous 2021 and 2022 around the world cruises sold out in a few weeks, records for the cruise line.

Demand for extended sailings has continued to stay "strong," Torstein Hagen, the company's chairman, said in a press release.

And very few itineraries are as "extended" as an around the world cruise.

viking cruise 180 days

In December 2024, the 930-guest Viking Sky will depart from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and begin its 180-day journey.

viking cruise 180 days

The vessel and its passengers will then visit 37 countries across five continents …

viking cruise 180 days

… stopping at a total of 85 ports with 13 one to two-night stays in destinations like Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

viking cruise 180 days

After departing Florida, the ship will travel through ports in Central America before heading through the Panama Canal and up the US West Coast.

viking cruise 180 days

From the US mainland, the ship will sail through the Pacific Ocean with stops in Hawaii and French Polynesia on its way to New Zealand and Australia.

viking cruise 180 days

After, it'll begin its long trek through Asia, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, and northern Europe …

viking cruise 180 days

… before traversing the Atlantic Ocean to its final destination: New York in June 2025.

viking cruise 180 days

Along the way, guests will get to explore destinations like Cartagena, Colombia, Yangon, Myanmar, Lisbon, Portugal, and Reykjavik, Iceland.

viking cruise 180 days

But if living on a cruise ship for six months seems too long, travelers can also join the sailing when it stops in Los Angeles for a 163-day vacation.

viking cruise 180 days

There's also the option for an even shorter 138-day and 121-day leg that will sail from Florida and Los Angeles, respectively, to London.

viking cruise 180 days

There will be about 60 days at sea with no ports of call on the full 180-day itinerary.

viking cruise 180 days

To stave off boredom, travelers can spend time exploring the cruise ship's amenities …

viking cruise 180 days

… which include two pools, a spa, and several dining, lounge, and bar venues.

viking cruise 180 days

And unlike most modern mega cruise ships, the Viking Sky's eight restaurants are all included at no extra cost.

viking cruise 180 days

But this doesn't mean it'll be a budget cruise.

viking cruise 180 days

The sailing starts at almost $80,000 per person for the 270-square-foot veranda stateroom.

viking cruise 180 days

This price then shoots up to nearly $300,000 for the owners' suite.

viking cruise 180 days

But if you're thinking of booking these ultra-luxurious accommodations, you're already too late. The 1,448-square-foot stateroom is already sold out, according to Viking's website.

Viking is announcing an amazing itinerary for its upcoming series of world cruises. See up to 37 countries with Viking’s three cruise options.

World Cruises

The 2024/2025 World Cruises have four different lengths. The longest is called Viking World Voyage I and lasts 180 days. Onboard this cruise, you will stop at 85 ports spread across 37 countries with 13 ports hosting overnight stays. It sets sail from Fort Lauderdale on December 19, 2024, and returns to New York on June 17, 2025, onboard the Viking Sky , a 930-guest ship.

The Viking World Voyage II is a shorter option, sailing just 163 days starting on January 5, 2025. The cruise begins in Los Angeles, visits 29 countries, and ends in New York. Even shorter, the 138-day Viking World Cruise departs from Fort Lauderdale and ends in London after sailing to 28 countries. The shortest world cruise is Viking World Journeys. It’s 121 days leaving from Los Angeles and ending in London with visits to 23 countries.

Cruise Highlights

The Viking 2024/2025 World Cruises circle the planet stopping at some of the most breathtaking places, including Sydney, Singapore, and Bali. The overnight ports allow guests to have more time in one location, deepening their experiences there.

In Auckland, New Zealand, cruise guests have 3 days to experience the area’s famous wines and boating locations. There is also a three-night stop in Mumbai, where guests can take their time exploring the Hanging Gardens and distinct markets. Parliament, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and St. Paul’s Cathedral are all popular during the overnight stay in London. Culture lovers will adore a stop in Istanbul, where they can visit the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. And an overnight stop in Singapore provides the perfect opportunity for guests to experience a nighttime safari.

Other highlights of the world cruise include going through the Panama Canal, seeing bottlenose dolphins at Milford Sound, and watching penguins on Phillip Island in Australia. You will also cross the International Date Line and sail through historic bodies of water including the Coral Sea, Tasman Sea, and Timor Sea.

Cruise Prices

All those amazing places and experiences do come with a price tag! Looking at the Viking website, the longest cruise (Viking World Voyage I) starts at around $80,000. The second longest (Viking World Voyage II) starts just under that at $75,000. The Viking World Cruise (138 days) and Viking World Journeys (121 days) start at $60,000 and $55,000 respectively.

Right now, Viking is offering an incentive to kick off these amazing new itineraries. From now until March 31, 2023, if you purchase a world cruise, you will also receive business class airfare, ground transfers, all onboard gratuities and service fees covered, a beverage package, and free luggage shipping. Even more, guests who book before the deadline will also get a $2,000-per-person shore excursion credit and $1,000 per person for onboard ship activities, like the spa or shops.

Viking Cruises is popular for its smaller ships and exceptional service. Here’s how to prepare for your Viking cruise, our favorite foods to eat onboard, plus secrets of a Viking cruise that no one tells you.

Amy’s passion for traveling and writing started at a young age. She grew up traveling with her family -- visiting three continents by the time she was 16. She’s always looking for her next trip and isn't happy until she has at least one (or two) on the horizon. She is most fulfilled when she’s exploring new areas like a local and finding good deals on travel and activities.

Amy studied broadcast journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She started her career as a TV news producer in Tulsa and Denver, winning 4 Emmy Awards for her work. She’s also worked in production for HGTV and as a spokeswoman for a small Colorado mountain town.

Amy is married with two young kids. Both kids got their passports before age one, as it’s her goal to instill the travel bug in them from a young age. If you can’t find Amy at an airport, you can find her trying out new restaurants, reading, or running.

Viking's ocean ships have a gross tonnage of 47,800 tons, with 465 staterooms that can host 930 guests. Viking's award-winning ocean fleet includes the Viking Star ® ,  Viking Sea ® ,  Viking Sky ® ,  Viking Orion ® ,  Viking Jupiter ® , Viking Venus ® , Viking Mars ® and  Viking Neptune ® . The Viking Saturn ® will join the fleet in 2023. Classified by Cruise Critic as "small ships," Viking's ocean fleet features modern Scandinavian design with elegant touches, intimate spaces and attention to detail. Highlights include:

All Veranda Staterooms:  Guests can choose from five stateroom categories, starting from 270 sq. ft. Veranda Staterooms, all with private verandas, sweeping views of the destination and premium amenities that include king-size beds with luxury linens, generously proportioned closets, large interactive flat-screen LCD TVs with movies-on-demand, free Wi-Fi and award-winning bathrooms with large showers, premium Freyja® bath products and heated floors.

Explorer Suites:  The ships feature 14 Explorer Suites, which are two-room suites ranging from 757 to 1,163 sq. ft. With expansive views from wraparound private verandas, as well as the most amenities and privileges of any category on board, Explorer Suites offer the ultimate sanctuary for World Cruise guests.

Two Pool Choices:  In addition to the Main Pool with a retractable roof permitting any-season swimming, the ships feature a first-of-its-kind glass-backed Infinity Pool cantilevered off the stern, allowing guests to swim surrounded by their destination.

The Spa:  In keeping with Viking's Nordic heritage, The Spa on board is designed with the holistic wellness philosophy of Scandinavia in mind—from the centuries-old tradition of the sauna to a Snow Grotto where snowflakes gently descend from the ceiling through chilled air.

Explorers' Lounge and Mamsen's:  Share a cocktail with friends. Linger over a Norwegian breakfast and a nautical history book. The Explorers' Lounge and Mamsen's gourmet deli are thoughtful spaces located at the bow of the ship and designed to represent the Scandinavian spirit for complete relaxation and for marveling at sweeping views through double-height windows.

The Wintergarden:  Guests looking for serenity will find it in the Wintergarden. In this elegant space under a canopy of Scandinavian trellised wood, guests can indulge in afternoon tea service.

Dining Choices:  Viking's ships offer eight dining options, all with no additional charge or fee—from fine dining in The Restaurant, which serves three full meals and a variety of culinary options, and the World Café, which features international fare and regional specialties including a sushi and seafood cold bar—to intimate alternative dining experiences at The Chef's Table, which offers a multi-course tasting menu with wine pairings, and Manfredi's, which features freshly prepared pastas and Italian favorites. The Pool Grill specializes in gourmet burgers, while afternoon tea and scones are available in the Wintergarden. Mamsen's serves Norwegian deli-style fare, and complimentary 24-hour room service allows all guests to enjoy many signature dishes in the comfort of their stateroom. Furthermore, with multiple choices for outdoor seating during meals, Viking's ocean ships offer the most al fresco dining at sea. Additionally, The Kitchen Table specializes in regional dishes from market to table.

Cultural Enrichment:  Viking experiences from ship to shore are designed for unparalleled access and cultural enrichment. Viking Resident Historians deliver high-level historical and cultural education specific to the journey, offering invaluable insight into the rich history of the destination. Guest Lecturers who are experts in their fields shed light on the destination's art, architecture, music, geopolitics, natural world and more. Destination Performances represent the most iconic cultural performing arts of the region—whether it be Italian opera or Portuguese fado. Resident Classical Musicians—pianists, guitarists, violinists and flautists—perform classical compositions throughout the ships. And Culinary Classes in The Kitchen Table, Viking's onboard cooking school, focus on regional cuisine.

Nordic Inspiration:  Even the smallest details take their inspiration from the exploratory spirit of the original Vikings, reflecting deeply held Nordic traditions. Light wood grains, touches of slate and teak, Swedish limestone and fragrant juniper appear throughout the public spaces and Spa. The Clinker-built design of the Viking Bar mirrors the construction style of the original Viking Longships. A Viking Heritage Center provides history and context from the Viking Age. And characters from Norse Mythology are subtly incorporated into the design, providing curious guests with inspiration to further explore Viking's Nordic heritage.

Cigna explores shedding Medicare Advantage business -sources

U.S. health insurer Cigna Group is exploring the sale of its Medicare Advantage business, which manages government health insurance for people aged 65 and older, a move that would mark a reversal of its expansion in the sector, according to people familiar with the matter. Cigna, which got into the Medicare Advantage business with its $3.8 billion acquisition of HealthSpring in 2011, would be backing away at a time the U.S. government is tightening its purse strings in reimbursing health insurers for their services, should it go through with the move. Cigna is working with an investment bank to evaluate options for its Medicare Advantage business, which could fetch several billions of dollars in a potential divestment, the sources said.

Cruising with Viking

By Gwen Pratesi | Reviewed by Suzanne Mason  | Last updated Oct. 25, 2023

Since 2015, Viking’s ocean cruises have earned acclaim for their inclusive luxury ships and engaging destination-focused itineraries. Viking’s voyages appeal to active and intellectual adults who are interested in learning about the history and culture of the destinations they visit. The cruise line's 10 identical 930-passenger ships include attractive perks, such as shipwide complimentary Wi-Fi and verandas for all cabins.

The smaller size of Viking's ships allows them to access more exclusive ports throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. Standard cruise itineraries range from eight to 93 days, while the line's World Cruise options can last up to 180 days. As part of Viking's inclusive fare, passengers are also treated to one complimentary shore excursion in each port of call.

U.S. News Insider Tip: While Viking's cruise fares seem high compared to other lines, you need to compare their all-inclusive value to cruises where everything comes at an additional cost. There are very few extra expenses that you will have once you're on board the ship. They also offer discounted sailings, including their Quiet Season Mediterranean Cruises. – Gwen Pratesi, Contributor

Press Release

Viking announces new river voyage for 2024: “paris & d-day 80 th anniversary”, new 12-day river voyage will visit destinations in england and france, honoring the history world war ii milestone.

Los Angeles (March 16, 2023) – Viking® ( www.viking.com ) today announced its new Paris & D-Day 80 th Anniversary voyage for the 2024 European river season. With departure dates running from March through November 2024, the special 12-day voyage from London to Paris will commemorate Operation Overlord and the historic battles of Normandy, which took place nearly 80 years ago and served as the catalyst to the liberation of Western Europe from German occupation.

“Many of our guests, particularly those with family members who served in the armed forces, have a keen interest in World War II history,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking. “In keeping with our commitment to offer experiences for The Thinking Person, we are pleased to unveil this special voyage that commemorates the 80 th Anniversary of D-Day—one of the most significant milestones in modern history.”

Guests booked on Viking’s new Paris & D-Day 80 th Anniversary voyage begin their journey in London to visit historic World War II sites—including the Churchill War Rooms, where the D-Day landings were prepared in England, and Bletchley Park, the home of the World War II codebreakers. Guests may also learn about Britain’s Special Forces and its allies during a visit to the Imperial War Museum London and experience Gunwharf Quays, the D-Day Museum and Southwick House—where Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower planned Operation Overlord.

After four days in England, guests continue on to Paris to embark on an award-winning Viking Longship ®. Sailing roundtrip from Paris, guests may explore Giverny and visit the beautiful gardens and charming farmhouse where Claude Monet lived and worked, trace the footsteps of Joan of Arc in Rouen, and walk the hallowed ground at Normandy’s American Military Cemetery and World War II beaches.

Hosting 168 guests in 84 staterooms, Viking Longships on the Seine River are built specifically to navigate into the heart of Paris, with an exclusive docking location at Port de Grenelle, just a short walk from the Eiffel Tower. The ships feature an Aquavit Terrace and a wide variety of stateroom choices, as well as Viking’s signature Scandinavian design aesthetic. The vessels also have a hybrid propulsion system with batteries and are also equipped for shore power to reduce reliance on fuel while in port. Onboard solar panels further contribute to the ships’ energy efficiency.

Now Open: 2025 European River Season

As Viking continues to celebrate its 25 th anniversary, the company recently marked another significant milestone—January was the most successful single month of bookings in its history. With record-breaking sales, Europe remains a popular destination—and in response to the strong demand, Viking has opened all dates for 2025 river voyages in Europe.
