Greater Houston Off Road Cycling Association

GHORBA was formed in September 1999 when the Houston Area Mountain Bike Riders Association (HAMBRA) and the Memorial Park Mountain Bike Association (MPMBA) joined forces to save the trails in Memorial Park from closure to all cyclists. Over the years GHORBA has expanded trail interests to dozens of Houston Area mountain bike trails. GHORBA is a non-profit 501c(3) corporation. It generates its operating revenue from your membership dues, organizing TMBRA series mountain bike and local races, and grants and donations from cycling and other businesses.

Get on your bikes and ride: Why Houston weather could be perfect for Galveston motorcycle rally

The Houston metro area this weekend will see temperatures swing toward spring-like levels, with highs reaching the 80s by Sunday. That forecast should sound as pleasant to bikers as the rumble of motorcycle engines at this year’s Lone Star Rally in Galveston this weekend.

The tens of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts that will be flying down Southeast Texas roads for the Lone Star Rally, which runs through Sunday, should enjoy rain-free skies and mild temperatures in the Houston area and Galveston while showing off their rides and listening to live music.

FRIGID FIRST:   Houston saw cold snap this week, but when does the city typically see its first frost?

Warming weekend ahead

High atmospheric pressure at the surface will introduce a steady onshore flow of moisture-rich air from the southeast this weekend. That will mean warmer temperatures and, with more air moisture, higher dew points. While highs won’t be nearly as warm as the last weekend of October, which brought temperatures to the high 80s, it’ll still be noticeably warmer. 

The weekend kicks off with temperatures early Saturday in the mid-50s in and near Houston. We won’t have a shortage of sunshine either day this weekend, though a quick-moving upper-level disturbance may lead to a stray shower south of Houston.

If you have plans to head toward the coast or south toward Lake Jackson, rain chances will be below 20 percent through Saturday evening. For the majority of Southeast Texas, mostly sunny skies will be present Saturday as highs reach into the upper 70s for Galveston and to near 80 degrees for the Houston area.

Sunday may end up being slightly warmer in the Houston area. Morning temperatures will start around 60 degrees before getting into the lower 80s by the afternoon. A steady southeasterly wind will result in Sunday night temperatures sinking to only the mid-60s, a nearly 30-degree swing from what much of the area woke up to as recently as Thursday morning .

Will mid-80s really return?

Warmer weather is coming next week, with Houston temperatures forecast to rise into the middle and upper 80s through at least Wednesday. Will storms accompany the warmer weather? No, the first half of next week is shaping up to be dry throughout most of Southeast Texas. 

Election Day is Tuesday and the weather shouldn’t stop anyone from getting out and practicing their civic duty. Houston temperatures on Tuesday could actually come within a few degrees of touching the 90-degree mark, a threshold that has never been crossed in November, according to National Weather Service records . 

Mid-80s become less common by mid-November

With the prospect of warmer weather next week, here’s some perspective on November temperatures. Houston’s official climate observation site, Bush Intercontinental Airport, has 14 daily record highs at or above 85 degrees from Nov. 1 to Nov. 15.

After Nov. 15, only seven of the 15 days recorded highs of 85 or more.

One of our service advisors will put your bike in the stand and run it through our professional inspection process. They’ll describe what they’re noticing and address any concerns.

From there, we'll discuss how we can get your bike back up to speed with a service package, on-the-spot adjustments, or replacement parts. We’ll also create an itemized receipt to make sure you’re comfortable with repair costs before we get to work.

Get to fixin’

Leave your bike with us, and we'll do the rest! You'll receive an email and/or text when your repairs have been completed, and we'll be sure to give you a call if anything pops up along the way. Plus, if our turnaround time exceeds 24 hours, we'll set you up with a complimentary demo bike.
