Kenny Loggins

Final Concert Tour: ‘This Is It’

January 17, 2023

Kenny has announced his final concert tour.  The “This Is It” tour will kick off on March 10 at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota, FL, and will include stops in New Orleans, Chicago, and Los Angeles metro areas among many others throughout 2023.

“It’s been an amazing journey since starting with Jimmy Messina in 1971, and I’m fortunate to have had such a long touring career,”  Loggins says. “I don’t see this as the end of my professional career, but certainly a halt to the grind of major touring.”

He stresses that there was no overarching reason to say farewell to touring, other than “after spending a lifetime on the road, I want to have more time at home.”

On the “This Is It” tour, he’ll trace his remarkable musical history with a brand-new, career-spanning stage show sure to thrill his loyal legion of fans.

“I’ll be playing songs that I feel sum up the emotional story of my music,”   Loggins says. “This will include 90 percent of the hits and 10 or so percent of the deeper cuts.”

KL Connection (Fan Club) members and the public will have an opportunity to also purchase one of two VIP packages being offered specially for this final tour:  the Footloose VIP package , which comes with a premium seat and exclusively designed merch offering; or the “This Is It” package which offers purchasers an inside look into Kenny’s world on the road with a guided backstage tour, access to soundcheck, group photo with Kenny, and special autographed items.

Mariah Carey talks 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' legacy, new holiday tour

Carey said her goal in writing the song was "to do something timeless."

Mariah Carey wrote " All I Want for Christmas Is You " nearly 30 years ago -- and she's still spreading holiday joy with it to this day.

The five-time Grammy winner sat down with ABC News' Juju Chang to reflect on the song's legacy and to discuss her upcoming holiday tour Merry Christmas One and All Tour , which kicks off next week.

"I was working on it by myself ... on this little Casio keyboard and writing down words and thinking about, 'What do I think of at Christmas? What do I love? What do I want? What do I dream of?'" Carey said, "And that's what started it."

"My goal was to do something timeless, so it didn't feel like the '90s, which is when I wrote it," she said.

Of the song's enduring appeal, Carey chalked that up to the fact that she "really, truly" loves the holidays. "It's not fake," she insisted.

The "Fantasy" singer is kicking off her new holiday tour on Nov. 15 that will take her across the U.S. with a brief stop in Canada. Last year's tour only stopped in Toronto and New York City.

"Last year we didn't go, like, across the country," she said. "So this year we're doing that."

Carey said her tour is a way to help give her fans "the merriest of Christmases" and for them to have an experience where they're "enjoying being together."

Joining her on the road are her children, 12-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe. Last year, Monroe even joined her mom for a duet during the tour.

"I think my daughter is rehearsing more than me, so I think she might have it together a little bit more than I do," Carey joked, adding that she thinks Monroe "kind of has" her iconic whistle octave and "just has to play with it" to master it.

As for whether her kids will follow in her footsteps, she said she doesn't know but hopes so as "they're both really talented across the board."

"I don't want to say they're my friends, 'cause then they're like, 'Oh, my mom's corny,'" she gushed. "I'm not a regular mom. I'm a cool mom."

In terms of what fans can look forward to in the future, Carey said that new music is "on the horizon."

"I've been working ... on just writing new songs," she teased. "Yesterday we were in the studio working on something with a choir, working on a new song. So it's exciting."

Kenny Loggins announces This Is It farewell tour: 'It's been an amazing journey'

The 75-year-old singer-songwriter will head into the danger zone one last time this year.

Emlyn Travis is a news writer at  Entertainment Weekly  with over five years of experience covering the latest in entertainment. A proud Kingston University alum, Emlyn has written about music, fandom, film, television, and awards for multiple outlets including MTV News,  Teen Vogue , Bustle, BuzzFeed,  Paper Magazine , Dazed, and NME. She joined EW in August 2022.

Kenny Loggins will ride into the danger zone one last time.

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter is clear for takeoff for his 2023 This is It farewell tour.

After kicking off at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota, Fla., the 11-stop concert series will rock across the country to Fort Worth, Tex.; Williamsburg, Va.; and Inglewood, Calif., over the next seven months.

"It's been an amazing journey since starting with Jimmy Messina in 1971, and I'm fortunate to have had such a long touring career," Loggins said in a statement on his website . "I don't see this as the end of my professional career, but certainly a halt to the grind of major touring."

But don't fret! Loggins added that the reason he has decided to put touring behind him is simple: "After spending a lifetime on the road, I want to have more time at home," he said.

For his celebratory send-off, the 75-year-old musician will return to the stage to perform a variety of hits from his 45-plus-year career. "I'll be playing songs that I feel sum up the emotional story of my music," Loggins explained. "This will include 90 percent of the hits, and 10 or so percent of the deeper cuts."

We can only hope one of those hits will be the fabled "5.0 version" of his 1986 single "Danger Zone," which Loggins previously told EW he rerecorded for last year's blockbuster sequel Top Gun: Maverick but that it was not featured in the final cut of the movie.

"I did rerecord 'Danger Zone' to make a 5.0 version that would wrap around the audience," he said at the time. "But Tom Cruise really wanted to conjure up the original version, the original feeling. So in the long run, it turned out to be the old track coming back."

Loggins recalled meeting Cruise while visiting Jimmy Kimmel Live . During his encounter with the Top Gun star, he asked if the film's unofficial anthem would be making a return in its follow-up.

"I said, 'So, tell me, is "Danger Zone" in or out?' And he said, 'It wouldn't be Top Gun without "Danger Zone,"'" Loggins said. "When we first talked about it, they were thinking it might go in a scene in the middle of the movie or somewhere near the end where he comes to the rescue. Instead, Tom opted to use it at the beginning of the movie so that it really conjures up the energy and excitement of the original Top Gun ."

Check out Loggins' upcoming tour dates below:

March 10 – Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall – Sarasota, Fla. March 12 – Florida Theatre – Jacksonville, Fla. March 26 – Good Life Festival – Queen Creek, Ariz. April 28 – Dickies Arena – Fort Worth, Tex. April 30 – New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival – New Orleans June 15 – Wolf Trap – Vienna, Va. June 17 – Virginia Arts Festival – Williamsburg, Va. Lauryn Hill Responds to Her Tour Tardiness: ‘Y’all Lucky I Make It’ | Video

* Lauryn Hill clapped back at criticism over her “tardiness” at shows during her current tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of her acclaimed debut album, “ The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill .”

“Yo, y’all lucky I make it on this blood ras stage every night,” Hill told the crowd on Saturday night in Los Angeles, (which she was late to), Complex reports.  “I don’t do it because they let me do it. I do it because I stand here in the name of God and I do it. God is the one who allows me to do it, who surrounded me with family and community when there was no support.”

She continued, “When the album sold so many records, and no one showed up and said, ‘Hey, would you like to make another one?’ So I went around the world, and I played the same album over and over and over and over again. Because we are survivors, and we’re not just survivors, we’re thrivers.”

The tour launched Sept. 8 in Minneapolis and features The Fugees as the opening act.

“The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill is and was a love song to my parents, my family, my people, my musical and cultural forebears, my teachers, my loves, my Creator,” Hill previously shared in a press release. “I wrote love songs and protest songs–(still love songs) about the subjects and interests that inspired and moved me. I was confident that what inspired me would resonate with an audience that had been led to believe that songs of that kind could only live in the past.”

A feast for your heart, eternal "We are the world"

Here's what Michael Jackson planned for final 'This Is It' tour that never happened

"He wanted to make sure that there were really important moments."

Headshot of Sam Warner

Before Michael Jackson suddenly passed away back in 2009, he was due to play a massive string of shows in London as part of his This Is It tour.

While we never got to see how the shows turned out – except in rehearsal form as part of the Michael Jackson's This Is It documentary – the tour's choreographer has opened up about what plans they did have.

Kenny Ortega, Michael Jackson This Is It, Good Morning Britain

"From the very, very start, when Michael called me, he said to me, 'Kenny, this is it'. He said 'this is it' so many times that I went back to him and said, 'Why don't we just call the tour This Is It?'

"But he had given me reasons, and he really wanted to do a tour so that his children could have an opportunity to see him in action, and to see him doing what he's loved all his life.

Ortega also revealed that Jackson wanted to do the tour for his "loyal" fans, as well as using the stage as a "platform to remind the world" of the "vulnerability of the planet".

Kenny Ortega, Michael Jackson This Is It, Good Morning Britain

"So Michael really had a vision for this tour, and every part of it played into those three reasons," Ortega continued.

"He wanted a likefulness to it, and he wanted to make sure that there were really important moments that were reminding his audiences to step out there and to take a responsibility, to do their part to make sure that we have a world that we recognise in the future."

Jackson passed away on June 25, 2009, and his daughter Paris recently shared a poignant tribute on what would have been her dad's 59th birthday.

"You are always with me and I am always with you," she wrote. "Though I am not you, and you are not me, I know with all of my being that we are one. And our souls will never change in that way. Thank you for the magic, forever and always."

Michael Jackson’s “This Is It!” Tour Balloons to 50-Show Run Stretching Into 2010

By Daniel Kreps

Daniel Kreps

What began as a 10-night stand at London’s O2 Arena has exploded into a 50- concert affair as Michael Jackson added another 20 shows to his This Is It ! run. All the tickets allotted during yesterday’s presale, roughly 360,000 of them according to MichaelJacksonLive , sold out yesterday, and the tickets that go on sale to the public tomorrow will likely do the same. As it stands, the 2009 concerts will end on September 29th, and then Jackson will return to the O2 on January 7, 2010 for at least 15 more shows, bringing the grand total to 50.

“By the end of the 50 concerts, 1 million fans will have witnessed one of the greatest musical events in history,” reads a statement on the MichaelJacksonLive page. “The figures speak for themselves — 360,000 tickets sold in 18 hours during the pre sale so far, that is 20,000 tickets per hour, 33 tickets per minute!” Demand was so great for the Jackson shows, Ticketmaster was struck with technical problems due to the high traffic . Among the records This Is It! has broken: The biggest audience ever to see an artist in one city, the most amount of people to attend a series of arena shows and fastest ticket sales in history. Barring an unlikely non-sell out to any of the shows, the 50 shows will more than double Prince’s previous record of 21 sold-out concerts at the O2 Arena.

“Michael is said to be ‘thrilled’ by the response and wanted as many fans to share the experience with him as possible,” the Website adds. “This will be the last chance to see the King of Pop in London, this really is it!” The remaining tickets go on sale tomorrow, March 13th, at 7 am GST/3 am EST. Check out the tour dates as they stand now below:

Michael Jackson: His Life In Photos

Documents displayed for a jury Wednesday showed the promoter of Michael Jackson’s ill-fated comeback concerts had contemplated a worldwide tour for the entertainer in the year before his death.

The documents prepared by AEG Live LLC envisioned 186 shows, with Jackson earning $132 million for his performances – far less than the $835 million that an accountant who previously testified for the Jackson family had projected the singer would pocket from 260 shows around the globe.

The company’s plans and calculations were presented to jurors hearing a negligent hiring lawsuit filed by Katherine Jackson against AEG Live. Katherine Jackson’s lawyers used the tour schedule to show the company had plans to mount an international comeback for the entertainer and that their expert’s assertions were supported by AEG’s own plans.

The AEG Live figures were intended to counter the previous estimate of Jackson’s earning power prepared by certified public accountant Arthur Erk.

Erk had said Jackson could have earned more than $1 billion if merchandise sales, endorsement deals and the creation of a Las Vegas show were included in his take.

However, a lawyer for AEG Live got Erk to concede Tuesday that his projections were not based on historical figures of Jackson’s earnings or spending.

The touring schedule drafted by AEG Live in September 2008 included shows in Europe, India, Australia and the United States. It was prepared by a top AEG Live executive trying to coax Jackson back on stage for the first time in more than a decade.

Jackson eventually agreed to do a series of concerts in London’s O2 Arena. He died in June 2009 while rehearsals were underway for the “This Is It” shows.

His last tour had been in 1997, but the singer was scheduled to perform 50 shows in London beginning in July 2009. Jackson had not agreed to perform shows in any other countries.

Jackson died of an overdose of the anesthetic propofol administered by a doctor in June 2009.

His mother claims AEG Live failed to properly investigate the doctor who was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

A jury of six men and six women is hearing the lawsuit and would consider possible damages if AEG is found liable.

The company denies it hired the doctor or bears any responsibility for the superstar’s death.

AEG Live projected that Jackson would earn between $22 million and $30.7 million for the London “This Is It” shows. The singer did not have any sponsorship or endorsement deals for performances.

Jurors also watched a clips from deposition testimony by Jackson’s daughter Paris, who said her father told her that he didn’t plan to perform after the London shows but did intend to take his children on a worldwide tour.

“He still had a lot of music that he was still working on, but he kind of needed to relax,” Paris Jackson said.

Michael Jackson announcing This Is It (2009)

The idea for the tour came to Jackson's mind sometime in 2008 and talks with AEG started around that time. According to Michael Prince , Michael was surprisingly very excited for the tour, despite of the artist saying the opposite years prior. [1] On March 5, 2009, a conference would be held at the O2 Arena, where Michael would announce This Is It .

"[...] These will be my final show performances in London. This will be it. This is it, and when i say "this is it", it really means this is it. [...] I'll be performing to the songs my fans wanna hear. [...] This is the final curtain call. I'll see you in july." [2]

In a matter of four hours, 750,000 tickets were sold. During the process, two sites with pre-sale tickets crashed.

Preparations would start in April, with rehearsals beginning in June. Unfortunately, those wouldn't ever conclude due to the tour's cancellation. After Jackson's death, AEG confirmed 100 hours of footage from the rehearsals was recorded. Originally, it was going to be used for a 15 minute feature on a planned Blu-ray for a concert movie, although it later turned into the Michael Jackson's This Is It movie. [1] [3]

Video of Beyoncé fans after Renaissance tour show highlights major problem with concerts: ‘It felt like we were on Survivor’

A viral Instagram video shows the chaos faced by stranded Beyoncé fans who waited hours to get home after the Kansas leg of her Renaissance tour.

Traffic jams stretched for miles on the roads leading into and out of Kansas’s Arrowhead Stadium, in a stark demonstration of the travel disruptions major concerts can trigger.

With limited public transport to whisk fans away and backed-up roads limiting access for taxis, many were left with little other option than to walk along the interstate.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kristina Knowles (@bloomingwithkk)

Instagram user Kristina Knowles (@bloomingwithkk) describes the mayhem she fielded alongside thousands of other concertgoers.

She and her friends waited until 12:54 a.m. to leave the stadium, hoping that the crowds would have dispersed, but hordes of Beyoncé fans were still scattered about the roads.

At 1:51 a.m., we see her wading through grass and hopping a fence to reach a gas station further away, where she hoped to hitch a ride more easily. Instead, she found more of the same. Ultimately, she reached home at 3 a.m. after splitting a $100 ride with a carpool.

“It felt like we were all on Survivor or the Hunger Games,” said Knowles. “I started to believe I was about to watch the sunset out there as I shivered on the sidewalk.”

A rare double event that day had swelled the number of cars parking in the complex — before the Beyoncé concert was set to kick off at 8 p.m., a Kansas City Royals game was underway at the neighboring Kauffman Stadium.

Fans reported traffic jams so bad on the way into the stadium that many abandoned their cars and walked.

A reported fee surge on Uber only worsened matters, pricing many out of using the app on the way home.

At the moment, only one bus route runs daily nearby. One commenter in the Kansas Star has highlighted the need for greater investment in express services around specific events, like concerts and sports events.

This would help to ease pressure on the roads when thousands are traveling and also reduce the air pollution caused by audience travel — currently the biggest contributor to live events’ carbon pollution.

“It was horrible,” one Beyoncé fan commented on the video. “I was there and jumped on a random charter bus that dropped us off downtown. Then I had to take a Bird scooter to my hotel from there at 3am.”

“Took Uber to the concert, but when I checked the rate and prices during her last song, I immediately B-Lined to the train which was right across the street from the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta,” said another. “People were all over the place, the lines were crazy.”

World's largest steam locomotive 'big boy no. 4014' preparing for 'four corners' 2024 tour.

Omaha, Neb., November 2, 2023

Union Pacific's famed Big Boy No. 4014 , the world’s largest steam locomotive, will return to the rails in 2024 for a tour celebrating the railroad’s deep history and connection to communities, and its employees. The tour is expected to reach all four corners of Union Pacific’s 23-state system with anticipated stops in:

  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas
  • Houston, Texas
  • Nampa, Idaho
  • Portland, Oregon
  • Roseville, California
  • Salt Lake City, Utah

“As we move forward at Union Pacific, we remember where we came from; the Big Boy represents the history of Union Pacific and the United States,” said Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena. “When No. 4014 comes to town, we will celebrate with the communities where we operate, our employees and their families. Together, we will marvel at how far technology has brought us.”

No. 4014 is the only Big Boy in operation today. Weighing in at 1.1 million pounds, it was restored in 2019 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad’s completion . Twenty-five Big Boy locomotives were built for Union Pacific to haul heavy freight during World War II, but only eight still exist. The other seven are on display around the United States.

Tour dates and route information will be released in 2024. In addition to public stops, Union Pacific employees and their families will be invited along the route.

When the Big Boy goes on tour, many people race to find a prime spot to take photos or put coins on the track. Union Pacific reminds everyone to keep safety top of mind, always stay 25-feet back, and refrain from putting anything on the rails.

Blinken discusses Gaza in Turkey, wraps up Mideast tour with little progress

ANKARA, Nov 6 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken wrapped up a four-day trip to the Middle East, with little breakthrough on achieving the humanitarian pauses that Washington is seeking to get in more aid into Gaza amid the Israeli bombardment of the enclave and establish calm to secure safe passage for the hostages Hamas militants kidnapped.

The top U.S. diplomat embarked last Thursday on his second tour to the region since the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict escalated after Oct. 7 when Hamas militants burst over into Israel in the deadliest attack in the country's history, killing more than 1,400 people and abducting 240 others.

While dismissing growing worldwide calls for a ceasefire, Washington has been seeking a humanitarian pause in Israel's military offensive but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rebuffed Blinken on Friday after their talks, saying there will be no let up in Israel's operations unless there is a deal on the hostages.

Asked what concrete progress he has made during his tour of the region, Blinken pointed to efforts to avoid a regional escalation.

"Sometimes the absence of something bad happening may not be the most obvious evidence of progress, but it is," he told reporters before departing to Tokyo for the Asia leg of his trip.

He said Washington was focused on getting more humanitarian assistance into Gaza and would continue to work with Israelis on steps to minimise civilian casualties but acknowledge the lack of a breakthrough. "All of this is a work in progress," he said.

Washington wants to prevent a wider regional conflict and has stepped up diplomacy with countries across the region whose peoples have been angered by Israel's bombardment of Gaza.

NO ERDOGAN MEETING

In Turkey, Blinken met with the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and discussed efforts to boost aid into Gaza, the need to protect civilians and preventing the conflict from spreading, statements from both sides said.

REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst/Pool Acquire Licensing Rights

The meeting between the two top diplomats lasted two and a half hours, a U.S. State Department official said. No talks took place between Blinken and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, who has criticised Washington over its "unlimited support to Israel".

Blinken had met Erdogan in February, when he visited the country following a devastating earthquake. Erdogan traveled to the Black Sea coastal city of Rize on Sunday and remained there throughout Blinken's visit in Ankara.

Turkey, a NATO member which supports a two-state solution in the Middle East, has sharply escalated its criticism of Israel as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has deepened. It also hosts members of Hamas, which is viewed as a terrorist organisation by some Western countries but not by Ankara.

As Blinken met Fidan in Ankara, dozens of people gathered outside the foreign ministry building to protest U.S. support for Israel.

Blinken "has given limitless support to Israel's genocide - not war," said activist Zeynel Abidin Ozkan, who took part.

Health officials in Hamas-controlled Gaza said on Monday that 10,022 Palestinians have been killed so far in the war.

On Sunday, pro-Palestinian crowds tried to storm an air base in southern Turkey that houses U.S. troops hours before Blinken's arrival.

A Turkish foreign ministry source said Fidan told Blinken that a ceasefire must be declared immediately in Gaza and that Israel must be prevented from targeting civilians and displacing people.

Blinken said U.S. focus on boosting aid into Gaza and freeing hostages remained and added that other countries in the region can play an important role in getting them back.

"We are working very aggressively on getting more humanitarian assistance in Gaza. And we have very concrete ways in doing that. And I think we'll see in the days ahead that assistance can expand in significant ways," he said.

Megan Thee Stallion’s “Cobra” Video Becomes 2023’s Biggest YouTube Debut in 24 Hours for Solo Female Hip-Hop Artist

The Houston Hottie released the song on Friday and it has already been streamed over 1.04 million times on Spotify in 24 hours.

Megan Thee Stallion  has earned another huge accolade in her career as her new video for  "Cobra"  became the biggest YouTube debut in 24 hours for any solo female hip-hop artist this year.

The Douglas Bernardt-directed video was unleashed at midnight on Friday, and it racked up over 2.15 million views in 24 hours, surpassing Doja Cat's "Demons," which clocked in 2.01 million views, and Ice Spice's "Deli," which garnered over 1.85 million views. The song itself also brought in 1.04 million streams on Spotify in 24 hours.

The song marked Megan's first independent release under her new music and entertainment company, Hot Girl Productions. The song has been the topic of conversation on social media thanks to a few choice lyrics that fans  think were aimed at her ex-boyfriend, Pardison Fontaine .

In the explosive second verse of her new single, she recalls the moment she caught a partner cheating: "Pulled up, caught him cheatin'/ Gettin' his d*ck sucked in the same spot I'm sleepin'."

The rapper confirmed her relationship with Pardi in 2021, and the pair dated for over two years before breaking up in 2023. Neither side has officially confirmed the split, but a clip of Pardi performing a spoken word poem went viral, and people assumed it was about his ex.

Meg also shared a few rhymes about dealing with depression on the track: "At night, I'm sittin' in a dark room thinkin'/ Probably why I always end up drinkin'/ Yes, I'm very depressed/ How can somebody so blessed wanna slit they wrist?"
