Visit to Ahobilam, Mahanandi and Srisailam
We are 4 senior citizens from Mysore, planned to visit Ahobilam, Mahanadi, and Srisailam. From Mysore to Yashavanthapur (Bangalore) Railway station, we went by Taxi. From Yashavanthapur Railway Station to Nandyal by Train (Gharibh Rath Express - only on Saturdays - at 10.45 pm). Reached Nandyal next morning. I had arranged a taxi for 4 days (Alamuri Bhaskar Reddy - Mob no.9989216305 - an excellent guy and was very helpful, with good driving). He picked us from Nandyal Railway station and went to Ahobilam by 10 am. AHOBILAM: At Ahobilam we had booked SLNS GUEST HOUSE -Mob no. 9441148070. It is very good and 4 persons can stay. After seeing the reviews, I had booked a guide over phone. He is Mr. Naveen - mob no. 9542273522. He is excellent, trustworthy and very helpful. He will take care of everything in Ahobilam. At 12 noon we visited 2 temples in Lower Ahobilam- Yogananda Narasimha & Chatrtavatha Narasimha. Had lunch at Sri Raghavendra Vilas (Udupi hotel) - very good vegetarian Satvik food. At 6 pm visited Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy & Prahlada Varadhar temple in lower Ahobilam, and attended evening pooja rituals (This temple is not part of Nava Narasimha). Next Morning at 7 am, after breakfast, we went to Upper Ahobilam parking area by Car. We took Doli to go up - charges Rs 3000 + tips. It’s strenuous for senior citizens to go by walk. we visited 5 temples - Jwala Narasimha, Malola Narasimha, Varaha Narasimha, Ahobila Narasimha & Karanja Narasimha. We did not venture to go to Ugrastambam,Bhargava Narasimha & Pavana Narasimha). We came down by 12.30 pm, had lunch and started our journey to Mahanadi by Car.
Stayed in Narahari Guest House, Great experience with the person who maintained Guest House, politeness and friendly. We are 5 members booked 2 rooms and visiting first time to Ahobilam. He explained us about 9 temples. And enough car parking inside compound. 6 cars can easily parked inside. And rooms are Good and we'll maintained. It's newly constructed and safety. If any planning first time to visit Ahobilam please take Guide. Naveen is the guide name , his number 9542273522. He will come with you and will explain clear about the each temple and history of it. Respective person, he can speak Telugu, English, Tamil , Kannada( nice guy) .
Ahobilam, is a beautiful and divine place to visit, which is located in Kurnool district of Andra Pradesh. There are totally 9 Narasimhar temples to visit. The upper Ahobilam has 4 temples in the mountain, which provides you a good spiritual trekking experience. For people who are not able to climb this mountain, there is also a provision of Doli to visit these 4 temples. They charge 3000 per person for Doli. 1 temple is present on the way from upper to lower Ahobilam. The lower Ahobilam has 2 temples. All these 3 temples are near the road, which can be easily reached by your car/vehicle. Remaining 2 temples are in forest which can be visited by hiring a Jeep. We reached out to a guide Naveen, who took care of all the needs for the trip. He has taken care of booking accomodation, guiding and explaining the details, arranging food and arranging jeep for temple visit. He is very hosipitable, polite, and friendly and helped us to visit all the 9 Narasimhar temples. We had good darshan of all the Narasmihar temples. Ahobilam is a must place of visit, at least once in your life time, which provides you a divine spiritual experience in the beauty of nature. You can reach Naveen at 9542273522, if you are planning for a trip to Ahobilam.
This review is mainly for senior citizens who have a lot of apprehensions about how difficult this trip to Ahobilam can be. From Chennai the ride to Ahobilam is 8 hours with 2 breaks. The roads are good. The SLNS guest house is sparkling clean with all amenities like geyser, air-conditioning ,one king size bed and a single bed.It is not yet a year old and hopefully will continue to be maintained well. Guide brothers Naveen and Narsiah are extremely hospitable and ready to help out with the minutest details. Guru Raghavendra mess serves temperature hot food which is tasty. I however cannot tolerate spicy chilly so found it a difficult to eat there. Even curd rice was hot!! If one carries some chutney along then we can easily eat all the tiffin with it. Now that the logistics are in place let us begin the temple run. The Chatravartha and Yoga Narasimhars are hardly a 10 minute ride away. Here we can also see the nava Narasimhars together with the navagrahams they represent . Great concept and convenience to pray to all of them together in one place . They all close by 5 pm. The PrahladVaradar is open till 8 pm. We went a bit after 6 and heard the Sahasranamam and got prasadam after aarti. This is the only temple where we both did not have exclusive dharsan. The next day we left at 7 am in the morning to upper ahobilam which is a good ghat section. From the car park carry water and any emergency medicines before you start climbing the seventy odd well paved steps to the Ugra Narasimhar which is the Divya Desam. The pathway to Krodha Narasimhar is from behind this temple. The gradient is very little and pathway and steps easy to negotiate. Reached there in 15 minutes after many stops to admire the surroundings. From here to Malola there are 200 steps. The gradient is not steep but due the elevation and as I am asthmatic I took long rests every 10 -15 steps. Our guide Narssaih held my hand and took me up safely. We did not venture to Jwala Narasimhar as I did not want to do anything foolhardy. Having said that the elderly priests do seem to making that trip every week as they go by rotation. Of course Doli is an option if you want to make it. They charge 3000 and it is a difficult job for them to carry weight and climb. The descent is easy and one needs to doit slowly as it is easy to trip or slip . On our ride back to to lower Ahobilam we stopped at the 6 th Narasimhar - Karanja. We reached back by 10 .30 am. The weather in February was extremely pleasant. Choose a weekday as it is not crowded. We also decided not to go to to Pawana and Bhargava Narasimhar as it required a jeep ride in the jungle for 3 hours....did not want to risk our backs. You can reach Naveen at 9542273522 and Narsiah at 9542125354
A beautiful and pleasant place. It is divided into two parts. Upper ahobilam which has four templs.1.Jwala 2. Ahobilam 3.malola 4. Kroda(Varaha). There is Doli is available for those who can't walk, they charge 3000/- per head (four temples). Jwala Narasimha is the most visit place in upper ahobilam. It is the place where Lord Narasimha appeared and killed Hiranyakashipu. 5. Karanja which is near by 1km to upper ahobilam beside the road. Lower ahobilam has four temples. Yogananda and Chatravata. It can be accessible via the road way. Pavana and Bhargava are deeply located in Inside the forest.we have to must go by the Jeep. They charge 3000/-(one or 6 members). We recommend take a guide his name is Harish. His knows everything about all the temples and he explained very well.He can also arranged the rooms Harish: 9490940264

Ahobilam is a small village in kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. There are total 9 temples in ahobilam. They are: 1. Jwala narashimha 2. Ahobila narashimha 3. malola narashimha 4. Varaha narashimha 5. Karanja narashimha 6. Bhargava narashimha 7. Yogananda narashimha 8. Chatravata narashimha and 9. Pavana Narasimha. In this 9 temples two temples are in lower ahobilam which can be reached by auto or car, and another 2 temple are in deep forest it can be reached by local Jeep, and. Remaining 5 temples are on top of the hills. One of the must visit temple in ahobilam is Jwala narashimha temple that needs a trek from the eguva ahobilam. It is a very good and thrilling experience walking inside the forest. Overall it was a very memorable trip. All the temples covered in one day and there are many ladges for accommodation. Would recommend taking help of a guide for people planning to visit all temples. In ahobilam we will take a guide his name is S Venkatesh. He did arrange everything. He was very good and has good knowledge on the area. He explained the history of each of the temples. Would definitely recommend to any of travelers planning to visit Ahobilam. One of the biggest problems is accommodation.
Make sure you prebook the accommodations.
It will be tight in both Srisailam and Ahobilam .
Expect over crowd in all the locations.
Day 1 : Hyderabad to Srisailam
Start early in the morning. You will reach by 11 AM. Complete the rituals. Explore around.
You need to take lot of steps to visit Mallelatheertham.
I feel that one day is good enough for Srisailam.
Explore around Srisailam. Drive down to Mahanandi temple.
Plan stopover at Ahobhilam. Day 3: Take a guide and go on the Ahobilam forest trek.
It is beautiful during monsoon.
Day 4: Drive back to Hyderabad via Bangalore highway.
Based on accommodation availability you can change the plan.
Roads are good, you wont feel them hectic since the distance is less.
Single lane roads. Not suitable for high speed cruising.
Return drive will be easy, since you will the Bangalore highway.
You can cut short the trip to three days, go on a short trek in Ahobilam and drive back on the same day.

I feel Ahobilam deserves an overnight stay .. A short trek into the forest is the best at this place. But make sure of your accommodation being booked in advance if you are travelling to Ahobilam as there are limited options.
Drive safe and Keep revving!

I would suggest this plan
Day 1 - Hyderabad to Srisailam (on the way mallela theertham)
Day 2 - Start to Mahanandi as there isn't much around Srisailam and cover Mahanandi with overnight stay at APTDC / Haritha Mahanandi
Day 3 - Start to Ahobhilam early morning, reach there finish off darshan's at both diguva and eguva Ahobilam and trek to old temple post lunch, return back to stay (try to book APTDC / Haritha Ahobilam)?
Day 4 - Ahobhilam -- Hyderabad via Bangalore Highway
You can also do this, this will be much easier
Day 2 - Start to Mahanandi as there isn't much around Srisailam and cover Mahanandi (Check for temple timings) and proceed to Ahobilam with overnight stay at APTDC / Haritha Ahobilam
Day 3 - Finish off darshan's at both diguva and eguva Ahobilam and trek to old temple post lunch, return back to stay
Thanks for the replay.
We are planing to go Group of 12 family members and plan to visit akkamahadevi temple. and rope way..so plan to stay a day in srisailam.
How about route any idea ... Srisailam to Mahanandi.
3 hours ago, SUBBU1 said: How about route any idea ... Srisailam to Mahanandi
It is good, you take regular Hyd Srisailam while going and take Dornala - Atmakur route while returning on your way towards Mahanandi, there is an alternate route which goes through Dornala - Giddalur but take Atmakur route to get on to Nandyal road which I feel is faster and better

thanks Sri for the best route map

Instead you should have taken Banaganapalle - Nandyal - Kurnool, it would have been even better, Internal roads between Banaganapalle - Betamcherla until you take left on to Orvakal is not so good with so many villages!

Is this the same trek that leads to Ugra Stambham inside Forest? If yes, how tough was the trek level? can this be easily done by kids too? Heard mixed inputs on trek level for this destination.

Mantralayam
Mantralayam is a small town in Andhra Pradesh on the banks of Tungabhadra River. It is known for the MoolaBrindavanam of Sri Guru Raghavendra Swami - a Madhwa saint and follower of Sri Madhwacharya. It is believed that Guru Raghavendra Swami has been present here from the past 339 years and will continue to be here for another 361 years (700 years in total). Guru Raghavendra Swami is considered to be a reincarnation of Prahallada, the devotee who was saved by Lord Vishnu in his Narsimhaavatar.SriRaghavendraSwamy is said to have performed many miracles during his lifetime and is believed to be present in the Brindavanam and bless his devotees even today.

Belum Caves
Located at the Belum Village in Kurnool District in Andhra Pradesh, Belum Caves is the second largest cave in the Indian subcontinent with a total length of about 3229 metres. These caves are important geologically and historically. Relics found in the cave indicate that Jain and Buddhist monks lived in these caves centuries ago. These caves with stalactite and stalagmite formations have long passages, spacious chambers, fresh water galleries and siphons. There is also a giant statue of Buddha near a hillock at the belum Caves.

Located in the Karnool district of Andhra Pradesh in the hills of the easternGhats, Ahobhilam is one of the major pilgrimages in South India. It is believed that Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Krishna, killed the demon Hiranyakashipu and blessed Prahlada at this place. The temple consists of nine shrines dedicated to nine forms of Lord Narsimha located around a 5 km circle.

The Mahanandi village is located east of the Nallamalla hills near Nandyal in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. The MahanandiswaraSwamy Temple, an important shrine, is located here. It is considered to be the most important temple among the Navanandis. The largest Nandi statue of the world is located here. The temple is also famous for its fresh water pools – two small pools at the entrance and one big pool inside the temple. Pilgrims bathe in this holy water which is also believed to possess healing qualities.

Alampur was under the rule of Shatavahana Ishvakus of Nagarjunakonda, Badami Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Kalyani Chalukyas, Kakatiyas, Vijayanagara Empire and Qutb Shahis of Golconda. Alampur was previously Known as Halampuram, Hamalapuram And Alampuram. Name of this place as Hatampura, mentioned in the inscription dated AD 1101 belongs to Western Chalukya Tribhuvanamalla Vikramaditya VI. The Alampur Navabhrama Temples are historically important and reflect remarkable architectural skills.
