15 Best Day Trips from Delhi
Delhi is the capital of India and is one of the oldest cities in the world, with Old Delhi dating back over 5000 years.
The city is full of interesting sites both modern and ancient to entice visitors on their trip to India.
The bustling streets have numerous temples, bustling markets, and interesting glimpses into the modern nation of India.
There are also some great day trip opportunities from the city to satisfy anyone wishing to stay in the local area.
From some of India’s most iconic monuments to small, local villages, there is something to suit everyone within a short trip from the capital.
Here are the 15 best day trips from India.
1. Taj Mahal

Possibly the most iconic symbol of India, the Taj Mahal can easily be reached within a day trip thanks to a high-speed train.
Nevertheless, we recommend you consider one of the organised tours from Delhi to make sure you can see everything that is worth seeing at the site within a day.
Unlike many major tourist monuments across the world, the Taj Mahal will not leave you disappointed, and many visitors are amazed at just how awe-inspiring it is in real life.
The white marble mausoleum attracts millions of visitors a year, so going with a guide will help you cut the lines – although there are special tickets you can buy if visiting by yourself that will also reduce waiting times.
Recommended tour : Private Taj Mahal & Agra Tour from Delhi by Car

The city next to the Taj Mahal is well worth a day trip in itself if you are looking to avoid the main tourist draws.
The Agra Fort, located within the centre of the city, and Fatehpur Sikri, a collection of palaces and gardens, are both UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Built by the Mughal Empire, the city is packed with well-preserved historical sites and cultural experiences.
As with the Taj Mahal, we recommend taking one of the day trip tours from Delhi to maximise your time in the city.
If visiting by yourself, there are, however, a number of guides and mobile apps you can download to get the most out of a day trip.
Aside from the main attractions, there are plenty of temples, gardens and culinary experiences for you to enjoy.

The capital of Rajasthan is also a little bit further from Delhi than other day trip options, however there are plenty of organised tours available between the two cities.
It is possible to drive and enjoy a great day trip, and you can also opt to fly there if you have a bigger budget, arriving earlier in the morning and leaving later the same evening.
Named the Pink City due to its distinctively decorated buildings, Jaipur completes India’s Golden Triangle alongside Agra and Delhi.
Like other cities within the triangle, Jaipur is full of historical sites, palaces and gardens.
There is also a large bazaar where you can enjoy an authentic Indian market experience.
Recommended tour : Jaipur Full-Day Tour from Delhi
4. Akshardham

Located just outside New Delhi, Swaminarayan Akshardham temple was only built in 2005. You would, however, be forgiven for mistaking it for an ancient temple.
It was built using red sandstone sourced from within India, and the elaborate architecture and decor draw heavily from India’s past.
This building is dedicated to the Swaminarayan faith and is the largest temple for the religion in the world.
The centre of the building features a gold statue of the religion’s founder which looms over visitors at 11 feet tall.
Please keep in mind that all electronics, including cameras, are prohibited within the temple and will need to be locked away before you can enter.
Suggested tour : Akshardham Visit with Exhibition including Lunch/Dinner
5. Mathura and Vrindavan

These two towns are located south of Delhi in the Uttar Pradesh province and are central to the Hari Krishna faith.
The entire region is full of monuments to Lord Krishna, with worshipping temples and beautiful gardens that can be visited by tourists and followers of the Krishna faith alike.
Local guides can show you around both of the towns and teach you about the history of the region, and of the religion, which has been deeply shaped by both towns.
Both towns can be visited together within one day trip.
Available tour : From Delhi: Full-Day Mathura & Vrindavan Tour
6. Kachhpura

Located on the outskirts of Agra, just past the Taj Mahal, Kachhpura village will give you an entirely different experience of India compared to the major cities and tourist attractions.
The village is an excellent example of the rural lifestyle in central India, and also comes with some great opportunities to look at and purchase traditional Indian handicrafts and artworks.
The Islamic culture of India is also prevalent here, and you can visit the Humayun’s mosque whilst in the village.
The central courtyard has a local market with more of a rural feeling than the larger city markets.
7. Old Delhi

If you want to stay within the city but need an entirely different experience from the modern New Delhi, Old Delhi is a part of the city often overlooked by visitors to India despite having some of the best sites in the city.
Older than almost any other city in the world, Old Delhi was the capital of the Mughal Empire and contains some great examples of traditional Indian culture.
Small eateries, vibrant markets and cow-filled streets are common sights in this part of town, and it can feel like a completely different world from the rest of the city.
If you are staying in New Delhi, this can make a great day trip in itself, and should not be missed.
Available tour : Old Delhi Rickshaw Ride and Guided Tour
8. Mehrauli Archeological Park

Located just outside of the city proper, Mehrauli Archeological Park is a hidden gem just a stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of Delhi.
The park is packed with over 440 monuments from across India’s history, including temples built during both the Mughal and British Empires.
The area is mostly forested, giving an entirely different vibe from the neighbouring city, and there is a small village in the middle to give you a glimpse of local culture.
The main attractions are the tombs of Balban and Quli Khan, as well as the neighbouring mosque and monuments to ancient kings.
Suggested tour : Mehrauli Archaeological Park Heritage Walk
9. Ranthambhore National Park

Wildlife fans will love a day trip to Ranthambhore National Park, where you can discover tigers, leopards and macaques, as well as a whole host of other animals, in their natural habitat in the Indian wilderness.
Located in neighbouring Rajasthan, Ranthambhore can be easily reached on a day trip, either self-guided or as part of a structured tour.
You can take one of the guided tours offered by the park to discover more about the native wildlife of Rajasthan, as well as modern conservation efforts against climate change and poaching.
The transportation network throughout the park is designed to keep visitors safe, and there are facilities scattered throughout the park for eating and freshening up.
10. Chandigarh

Compared to the rest of India, Chandigarh can seem bizarre and out of place.
The first planned city in the country has more in common with modern European towns and cities than it does with nearby Delhi.
The town is known for good weather and great views over the distant mountains.
The wide range of museums, art galleries and carefully arranged gardens will give visitors a peaceful break from the constant sensory overload that many tourists experience in other places in India.
It is a great place to experience India’s answer to high-end shopping, and the cosmopolitan nature of the city has allowed a wide range of international cuisines to thrive.
11. Haridwar and Rishikesh

North of Delhi, the Haridwar and Rishikesh region is known as the starting point for tours of the Ganges, and the forested mountains that can be viewed from both towns.
These are great places to experience Hindu culture, and both can easily be covered in a single day trip.
You can take a bridge across the Ganges, sample some of the most unique cuisine in the country and learn more about Hinduism, the most widely-practiced religion in India.
There are, of course, plenty of temples for you to explore in both towns and Haridwar, in particular, is known for excellent street food.
12. Hauz Khas

Located on the outskirts of Southern Delhi, Hauz Khas is a creative neighbourhood that manages to combine history with modern culture in an eclectic mix.
Many of the buildings in the area date back to the 14th Century, however they have been painted with modern graffiti giving the average visitor a very unique experience.
The area is filled with quirky restaurants, unique boutiques and independent art spaces that help give Hauz Khas a cool, youthful vibe that will be sure to make for an interesting day trip out of the central city.
13. Kurukshetra

Kurukshetra is a holy city located north of Delhi in the Haryana province.
There are plenty of excellent religious sites to visit in the city which is not as tourist-filled as other parts of India.
There are many holy sites in the city dedicated to both Islam and Hinduism, however Muslim scriptures have documented the city since before the Mughal Empire, and the city is deeply intertwined with Islamic Indian culture.
There is also an interesting crocodile park on the outskirts of the city, and the streets are well known for the carrot juice sellers who seem to pop up all over the place.
14. Bareilly

Located east of the city in Uttar Pradesh, Bareilly is an excellent example of modern India.
Like every other town in the country, there are many interesting temples for you to visit, and these exhibit some more modern examples of Hindu worship.
Just outside the town, there is a theme park, Fun City, which is popular with local kids and has some great restaurants and an adjoining waterpark called Boond.
The city is best reached by rail if you are planning a day trip, and guided tours from Delhi are available, though not as popular with tourists due to Bareilly being relatively off the radar for most visitors.

Located just outside Delhi proper in Uttar Pradesh, Noida is a haven away from the busy-ness of Delhi.
Compared to most Indian cities, Noida is low on pollution and traffic levels and will seem fairly peaceful if visiting on a day trip away from the nation’s capital.
The Noida Film City is a local hub for the film and TV industry and a great place to spot local celebrities or go check out the latest Bollywood releases.
Shoppers will love the modern mall complexes, and there is a large golf resort within the city for fans of the sport.

If you're thinking of getting out of the city and exploring the surrounding area, read on to discover the best day trips to take from Delhi.
In addition, if you're in Delhi during the first two weeks of February , definitely don't miss a day trip to Surajkund in Haryana for the annual International Crafts Mela (fair). As well as handicrafts from all over India, there are also performances from folk artists.
Agra and Fatehpur Sikri
Want to see the Taj Mahal but don't have much time to spare? It can be visited on a day trip from Delhi. It's also possible to add in Agra Fort (it's more impressive than the Red Fort in Delhi ) and the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikhri for an extra dose of heritage. Taking the train is an inexpensive way of getting from Delhi to Agra, and the journey can be completed in less than two hours if you catch an express train in the morning. Here are the best train options , including for the return journey in the evening. However, if you plan on seeing multiple attractions there, it's more convenient to hire a car and driver. Check out these top places to visit in and around Agra for options. Private day tours by car from Delhi are also popular. There's more information in this essential Taj Mahal travel guide.
Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary (Keoladeo National Park)
Sourabh Bharti/EyeEm/Getty Images
One of India's top bird-watching destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bharatpur is about four hours south of Delhi via the Yamuna/Taj Expressway. (It's only a little over an hour from Agra, past Fatehpur Sikhri, but is really worth a separate trip and a whole day). The park has more than 370 species of birds, and is one of only a few of known wintering habitats of the Siberian Crane. You can explore it by bicycle, cycle rickshaw, boat, or on foot. Visit from August to November for resident breeding birds and November to March for migrant birds.
The journey to Vrindavan can be done in under three hours from Delhi, along the Yamuna Expressway. If you hire a car and driver to go to Agra from Delhi, Vrindavan is on the way and can be included as a stop (although you should really spend a day there). This holy destination sits alongside the Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh, and is where Lord Krishna is said to have spent his childhood and youth. During that time, he slayed demons and embarked on his famous love affair with Radha. Compared to nearby Mathura, where Krishna was born, Vrindavan is relaxed and peaceful. The town has a distinct divinity that will leave you feeling spiritually refreshed. Spend the day meandering through the narrow streets and visiting the thousands of temples, of all different sizes. Later in the afternoon, head to Kesi Ghat for the sunset aarti (worship with fire) ceremony. Hire a boat and go across the river for a magical view of it. If you have time, also visit the complex of abandoned temples 30 minutes away at Kusum Sarovar near Govardhan.
Neemrana Fort Palace
Rambling 15th century Neemrana Fort Palace overlooks the historic village of Neemrana, in Rajasthan's Aravalli Hills, about two and a half hours southwest of Delhi on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. It was the third capital of the descendants of Prithviraj Chauhan III, king of the Rajput Chauhan dynasty. The fort palace was restored in the 1980s and turned into a luxury heritage hotel, popularly visited on a day trip from Delhi for lunch. The cost is 1,700 rupees per person on weekdays (from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.) and 2,000 rupees per person on weekends (from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.) including entry and buffet. Advance bookings are mandatory. After lunch and a look around the fort palace, if you're feeling adventurous it's possible to go zip-lining over it and the village. Don't want to have lunch at the fort palace? You can get free entry by going zip-lining and booking in advance .
Interested in more forts and palaces? A three-hour drive south of Delhi will get you to Alwar in Rajasthan. There, you can see the 18th century City Palace complex and government museum (closed Fridays) inside it, devoted to showcasing the extravagant lifestyle of the kings. Tucked away behind the City Palace, it's Lake Sagar and the many chhatris (dome-shaped pavilions) that are most visually impressive though. Above the City Palace sits the 16th century Bala Quila, one of the few forts in Rajasthan to be built before the rise of the Mughals. Unfortunately, it's poorly maintained and most parts are inaccessible. If you have time, the Forest Department runs popular jeep safaris to the fort and surrounding leopard trails.
Thanesar and Kurukshetra
In the other direction, some three hours north of Delhi, historically-significant Thanesar and Kurukshetra are situated adjacent to each other in Haryana. Kurukshetra has its roots in Hinduism, as the setting for the great war in the epic The Mahabharata . Thanesar, on the other hand, was the site of a 16th century battle between Mughal Emperor Akbar and a group of armed sadhus (Hindu holy men) who'd made themselves at home in his military camp. The most notable attraction there, which will delight architecture and archeology lovers, is the sandstone tomb complex of Sheikh Chilli or Chehli -- often referred to as the "Taj of Haryana". Mughal Emperor Shahjahan built this hidden gem in the 17th century as a tribute to the Iranian saint who is thought to have been the spiritual teacher of his eldest son. There's a museum within the complex, containing an assortment of artifacts excavated from the region. They date as far back as the Kushan dynasty in the 1st-3rd centuries. The museum is closed on Fridays.
Sultanpur National Park
Sultanpur National Park is another one of the top sanctuaries in India for bird-watching, with a reported 250 species of birds. Although the park isn't very big, it's situated conveniently close to Delhi in the Gurgaon district of Haryana. The drive there takes less than two hours. Hence, if you can't visit Keoladeo Ghana National Park (formerly Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary) in Rajasthan and want to spend some time in nature, Sultanpur is a decent alternative option for a day trip. The park attracts both local and migratory birds, including some all the way from Siberia. It has a tourist center, circular walking trail and four watchtowers. Do note it's closed on Tuesdays, and usually during breeding season from June to August or September.
Bhindawas Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary
Lesser-known Bhindawas Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary makes an offbeat day trip from Delhi for nature lovers and birders. It's about two to three hours east of Delhi in the Jhajjar district of Haryana, which is a bit further out than Sultanpur. The massive 1,000 acre park is a man-made wetland that features a lake originally designed to collect and store water from local canals. An interpretation center and museum provide detailed information about the place and birds it attracts. Do take your own transport, as the main way to explore the park is by a long track surrounding the lake. The ideal time to visit is early in the mornings in December and January. However, you'll find migratory birds there from late October to February. Be aware that amenities are basic.
If you like pottery, don't miss taking a day trip to Khurja, about two and a half hours southeast of Delhi in Uttar Pradesh. This small city is renowned for its large-scale ceramic pottery industry with nearly 400 factories, going back more than 600 years. Its original Afghan artisans are believed to have migrated there from Delhi during the reign of Mohamed bin Tughlaq, who was the Sultan of Delhi from 1324 to 1351. You'll find all kinds of tableware for sale in Khurja, as well as soap dispensers, trays, vases, and planters. Most are hand-painted in bright colors, and unlike the Jaipur blue pottery, they're practical items rather than showpieces. While you can go to Khurja by yourself, to get the most from the trip, it's a good idea to take a private tour such as this one (see #4) offered by Gallery Twentyfive in Delhi.
The Heritage Transport Museum
The vibrant Heritage Transport Museum presents the evolution of transport in India, and is one of the top museums that showcase India's heritage. It's a private museum conceived by vintage car collector Tarun Thakral, so a lot of passion has gone into creating it. This is reflected in the exhibits, which even include his own personal collection. The museum is spread over four floors and has all kinds of transport from aircraft to bullock carts — plus some unusual contraptions you've probably never seen before! It's situated in Tauru, near Manesar in Haryana, about two hours south of Delhi on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. Drop into the luxurious Manesar Heritage Hotel and Spa for lunch, or keep going onward to Neemrana.
Rewari Railway Heritage Museum
Are you a train enthusiast? Don't miss a day trip aboard India's Steam Express. This historic tourist train takes passengers from Delhi to the Rewari Railway Heritage Museum in Haryana twice a month, from October to April. What makes it really special is it's pulled by the "oldest steam locomotive in regular operation in the world". If it's not possible to travel on the train, you can still see the locomotive at the museum, where it's kept when not in service. It's open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and entry is free. Rewari is only a couple of hours southwest of Delhi, between the Heritage Transport Museum and Neemrana
Kingdom of Dreams
One of the top theme parks in India , Kingdom of Dreams is an outstanding live entertainment destination in Gurgaon (renamed Gurugram), about an hour south of Delhi. It encompasses both Indian culture and the performing arts. Wander through the elaborate arts, crafts, and culinary boulevard that is Culture Gully. Sample food from different states in India. Afterwards, catch a live Bollywood musical. Kingdom of Dreams is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 1 p.m. until 1 a.m.
Pratapgarh Farms
If you have kids, they'll love a day trip to Pratapgarh Farms on the outskirts of Gurgaon. This popular "urban farm" provides an ethnic village experience with fun activities for the whole family. There's pottery, cooking, camel and bullock cart rides, tractor rides, painting, weaving, henna application, head massages, mud baths, plenty of traditional games, animals to play with and tend to, guided farm tours, and unlimited yummy local food. The cost is 1,140 rupees per person for adults and 650 rupees for children, fully inclusive. Thrillophilia offers group tours.

32 Road trips from Delhi: The Motorcycle Diaries
Top hotel collections.

Delhi to Ladakh on a Royal Enfield is perhaps one of the most famous and challenging trips that you can undertake on a bike. But the famous 1,800 kms of round trip is by no means for inexperienced bikers – most parts of the roads are at an altitude of 13,000 feet and above, and you need to take care of rough road conditions and the weather
So what about the not-so-adventurous bikers? Here’s a list of some options you can explore near Delhi-NCR. Most of them can be covered on the weekend . Especially if you own a Royal Enfield, and you love bike trips, there’s no reason you should miss out on these trips. Holidify brings to you some of the best road trips from Delhi you can take using your motorcycle.
1. Delhi to Garh Mukteshwar (110 km)

Source Gangetic Dolphins at Garhmukteshwar
At just about 110 km from Delhi , this is the closest point where you can take a bath in the holy Ganges . One of the famous road trips from Delhi, this stretch is also famous for dolphin sighting, but you need a bit of luck on your side to spot them. They are more easily visible when the water level is low, and there is bright sunshine, so early summers (April-May) should be a good time to spot them. Fort Unchagaon is a heritage hotel in Garhmukteshwar , so if you would like to stay luxuriously, you can book a room and stay overnight.
Road condition and driving directions : Take the NH-24 from Ghaziabad and keep driving straight towards Hapur . Take the Hapur bypass to avoid city traffic. The road is in good condition, and the traffic thins once you are past Hapur. Take the road to Birjghat , which is around 10kms from the Garh Mukteshwar city. The ride shouldn’t take more than 2 hours of yours. Dhabas : The small town of Babugarh on the way has plenty of dhabas, with a chain called Shiv Tourist dhabas . There’s a bunch of them, and it’s hard to tell which one is the original, but they are all more or less good.
2. Delhi to Agra (136 km) & Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary (223 km)

The Yamuna expressway is probably the best road in the country at present and an absolute must-do for all road trip enthusiasts in Delhi. If you have enough driving stamina, you can visit the Taj Mahal and Bharatpur bird sanctuary and come back to Delhi by late at night.
Road condition and driving directions : You can cover the 180 kms stretch of road in less than 2 hours – the road is just amazing. Take care of the air pressure in your tires – too much heat driving at a fast speed have caused tires of some vehicles to burst, so remember to maintain a lower than normal air pressure. Dhabas : Unfortunately, the expressway has no dhabas at the side, so if you want to stop and eat on the way, you might prefer the old highway (via Palwal), although the driving wouldn’t be as much fun or fast. There are a few eateries on the side of expressway right after each toll. These eateries are good enough to quench your hunger and thirst but don’t have high expectations from the dhabas here.
3. Delhi to Mussoorie (289 km)

Mussoorie is one of the nearest and prettiest hill stations around Delhi and one of the most famous road trips from Delhi. From waterfalls and ropeways to a bustling local market and steaming momos, it has all the makings of a classic Indian hill station. And the drive from Delhi to Mussoorie , especially the last stretch after Dehradun , is breathtaking.
Road condition : Unfortunately, the road from Delhi to Dehradun is not in the best shape, but the scenery on the way after that more than makes up for that. Driving to Dehradun takes around 6 hours and another 1.5 hours from there to the hilltop on Mussoorie . Dhabas : Among the dhabas, Cheetal Grand is the famous eating joint on this route. Located near Khatauli, Cheetal Grand serves typical roti , dal , gobi , paneer , parantha , etc., to western-style breakfast food including omelettes, sandwiches, fries, cutlets etc. Between Dehradun and Mussoorie , there are a lot of small Maggi joints as well, serving hot bowls of Maggi with chai, snacks and soft drinks.
4. Delhi to Chandigarh (244 km) & Kasauli / Shimla (342 km)

The most planned city in India, Chandigarh is not only an excellent place to visit on the weekend, but also serves as a base from where you can drive to the hill stations in Himachal Pradesh. Shimla and Kasauli are beautiful hill stations near Chandigarh , around 2-3 hours of a pleasant drive from Chandigarh .
Road condition : Connecting Delhi to the rest of Punjab, the Grand Trunk road is important to the economy, and is in a reasonably good shape. Dhaba : Sukhdev dhaba at Murthal is one of the most famous dhabas among Delhites , and is by no means over-rated. Haveli and Gulshan Dhaba are also very famous dhabas at Murthal. The food, especially the parathas, here are amazingly delicious, which is why many people drive to Murthal every day (and night). The food alone could make your road trip worth the effort.
5. Delhi to Jaipur (282 km)

The famous pink city is just about a perfect drive from the capital, at around 7 hours by bike. And with so much to offer, Jaipur is always a good choice for a tourist destination.
Road condition : Unfortunately, the Delhi – Jaipur highway , although a part of the Golden Quadrilateral project, is in a terrible condition. One of the best roads in India till a few years ago, unfinished, abandoned flyover constructions have left the road in poor shape and traffic merging at several points, so it takes up to 6-7 hours to reach Jaipur from Delhi. Dhabas : There are a few dhabas scattered all along the highway, although there is no particularly very famous one. Bajwa Ka Dhaba and Highway King are among the good dhabas on the road which could be tried. If you really have to go to a dhaba for just food, you might have to head out of Jaipur on the Sikar Road and eat at Sharma Dhaba , the most famous dhaba around Jaipur .
6. Delhi to Alwar (167 km) + Sariska Tiger Reserve

Sariska , one of the most famous Tiger reserves in the country, along with Alwar, is an interesting short weekend trip from Delhi. Pick a good time to visit – preferably in February/March, when the chances of sighting a tiger are most, and before the weather gets hot enough even to contemplate visiting Rajasthan .
Road condition to Alwar : With the construction of a lot of flyovers abandoned midway, this is not the best of roads for a fast and furious kind of trip, but you can reach Alwar from Delhi easily in under 5 hours. Dhabas: There are a lot of dhabas and restaurants along Delhi-Alwar Road . Even though no particular dhaba is very famous on this route, Pind Balluchi and Haldirams are among standard restaurants which serve good food.
7. Delhi to Nainital (297 km)
One of the popular hill stations in the Himalayas , Nainital is one heck of a place for a road trip from Delhi. Though it is considered to be a year-round destination, one could avoid visiting this place from about July-September , mainly to avoid the monsoon which often causes road blockades.
Road condition to Nainital : Most of the people travelling to Nainital via road take the Delhi - Hapur – Moradabad – Rampur route which have good roads with just a few potholes between the Moradabad – Rampur stretch . The entire journey would take approximately 6 hours. Dhabas: There are quite a few places along the route where one can stop over for food. Apart from the small dhabas on the highway, Bikanerwala , in Garjola , is a popular restaurant where one can indulge in some real good food.
8. Delhi to Rishikesh (238 km)

Located at the confluence of the rivers Ganga and Chandrabagha , Rishikesh is one of the holiest and most spiritual places of the Hindus. The raw, scenic beauty of this place makes it an ideal setting for yoga, meditation and adventure sports such as river rafting and trekking . It has pleasant weather throughout the year, but it gets hot there in May-June.
Road condition to Rishikesh: Delhi to Rishikesh by car is a good option for hassle-free travelling. The roads and traffic gets a bit bad once you reach Muzzafarnagar, and it continues till Roorkee. Else, the road conditions are pretty decent. It’s a 6 to 7 hours journey. Dhabas: Cheetal Restaurant at Khatauli has been a famous stopover point for many years and offers good, hygienic food. One can also try Pandit Dhaba, which offers some really good snacks and tea.
9. Delhi to Dharamshala (474 km)

Nestled in the beautiful Kangra Valley , with dense pine and deodar forests, numerous streams, cool healthy air, attractive surroundings and the nearby snowline, Dharamshala has everything for a perfect holiday. It is also the headquarters of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama . Though a bit far compared to other road trip locations, this quiet, peaceful hill station is one of the must-visit road trips from Delhi
Road condition to Dharamshala: The drive to Dharamshala from Delhi via Chandigarh, Kiratpur and Bilaspur should take around 12-13 hours. Roads are generally clear, broad and well maintained. Dhabas: Driving along NH 1, several eating options can be found depending on your budget. Pahalwaan Dhaba at Murthal is an excellent stop if you’re craving for some yummy paranthas. You can also stop at McDonald’s or Haveli near Karnal while going towards Ambala.
10. Delhi to Neemrana (122km away)

The royal town of Neemrana is 122 km from Delhi. An architectural marvel, the Neemrana Fort Palace was built here in 1464 AD on a hill of the Aravallis. The once-in-ruins fort has been converted to a Fort Palace Hotel for over three decades now, preserving its medieval beauty & grandeur . For adventure seekers, it offers guests and day visitors the exhilarating experience of ziplining across the Aravalli hills. If you are looking for a road trip that leads you to a royal weekend-stay, this heritage-hotel is a good option.
Road condition to Neemrana: From Delhi, this shorter stretch on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway has been said to be in decent condition but can get busy. Even in peak-traffic hours, it won’t take more than 3.5 hours to get here. Dhabas: Although it is a short distance to Neemrana, the renowned Mannat Dhaba in Dharuhera would be a good stopover for an exceptional lassi and most other cravings you may have. There are many other dhabas on the way as well.
11. Delhi to Mathura and Vrindavan (180km away)

Road condition to Mathura & Vrindavan: Similar to a drive or ride to Agra, the route to Mathura and Vrindavan is also the well-maintained Yamuna Expressway . The journey should not take more than 3 hours. There are no gas stations on the expressway so fill fuel before you start your trip. Dhabas: There are no dhabas or food-joints on the Yamuna Expressway. If you are the kind who would need a snack, it is advisable to carry it with you from Delhi. Eateries can be found near tolls in case of an emergency.
12. Delhi to Ranikhet (354 km)

Ranikhet or ‘Queen’s Meadow’ is a must-visit for people looking for scenic Kumaoni beauty with a touch of colonial heritage. This cantonment town is picturesque. July-November is the best time to visit as the weather is pleasant through the route and in Ranikhet.
Road Condition to Ranikhet: As it is an 8-hour drive, those looking for a stop-over may consider two routes to Ranikhet from Delhi. The shortest route is through Rampur & Nainital and the other through Bareilly & Haldwani. The majority stretch on both routes is the NH-9 which is in a reasonably good condition. Dhabas: On this route, the town of Gajraula is famous for dhabas. Apart from Bikanerwala , Moga Punjabi Tadka and Bhajan Dhaba are good options.

16. Delhi to Amritsar (449 km)

Road Condition to Amritsar: The best route to Amritsar is the NH-44 which will run through Karnal, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Ludhiana and Jalandhar . The route is well-maintained, promising wide roads. If you choose not to stop at any of these places, you should reach in about 8 hours. Dhabas: Apart from great food in Ambala, Mayur Dhaba in Karnal is well known for good food. Ludhiana and Jalandhar are famous for great local Punjabi dhabas. Bansi Vaishno Dhaba in Ludhiana is a famous vegetarian dhaba that is worth trying.
17. Delhi to Gwalior (351km)

Road condition: A driver’s paradise, the Yamuna Expressway also connects Delhi to Gwalior. The journey should not take more than 7 hours. There are no gas stations on the expressway so you’ll have to replenish fuel near tolls or will have to make small de-routes if necessary. Dhabas: The Yamuna Expressway has no dhabas or food-joints. Eateries can be found near tolls when you need a stopover.
18. Delhi to Dehradun (245 km)

Road Condition to Dehradun: The recommended, yet slightly longer route is the Grand Trunk Road/NH1 which is well maintained and a pleasure to drive on. The shorter Saharanpur route must be avoided.
