Column: Options abound for getting to the PGA Tour. LIV Golf offers a new wrinkle

Keita Nakajima took a break from staring at all the menu options in a coffee shop down the street from Royal Liverpool and began contemplating his next move in golf.
More options.
Nakajima, who broke Jon Rahm’s record for most weeks (87) as the No. 1 amateur in the world, is in a tight race for the Japan Golf Tour money title with Takumi Kanaya. The top three get European tour cards. The leading player can go to final stage of Q-school on the PGA Tour, which at least assures a level Korn Ferry Tour status.
His question that day in July: “Is it better to play DP World Tour or Korn Ferry Tour?” he said. Nakajima wants to follow in the steps of Hideki Matsuyama, except that he considers conversational English a priority.
The money is better on the European tour — roughly three times higher, including the Rolex Series events — the travel is more extensive and the variety of golf is far greater on a tour that goes to two dozen countries. Only the leading 10 players from the Race to Dubai not already exempt can earn PGA Tour cards. That’s where Nakajima eventually wants to be.
The travel is easier and the fields are not as strong on the Korn Ferry Tour, though the top 30 players go straight to the PGA Tour.
It’s like that all over the world golf, with most paths — but not all — pointing to the PGA Tour, even if it’s not exactly on a straight line.
Where to go? How to get there?
Answers will start coming after the season ends within the next month.
The European tour has two events left to determine the top 10 players who have access to PGA Tour cards for 2024.
Adrian Meronk and Ryan Fox are among those locked in. Ryo Hisatsune of Japan is holding down the 10th spot. He turned down his spot on the PGA Tour in Mexico this week so as not to jeopardize his chances at a full card.
The real choices confront PGA Tour players who have three tournaments left to make sure they finish in the top 125 in the FedEx Cup and keep full cards.
Chesson Hadley seems to live on that bubble, and he’s at No. 122. On the outside are the likes of Patton Kizzire and Russell Knox. Those beyond No. 150 don’t even get conditional status. That’s where Jason Dufner and Ryan Palmer currently reside.
Typically they would get in to whatever PGA Tour events had room for them (usually the ones the stars don’t play) or try slugging it out on the Korn Ferry Tour with power-hitting, pin-seeking flat bellies.
Now there’s another option. The European tour is offering membership to any PGA Tour player who finishes from No. 126 to 200, with a caveat — no more than five such players can play in any given week on the European tour.
But for the leading guys, it’s an interesting prospect because it would offer a full, consistent schedule. Also appealing is the longtime debate over the strength of the tours. Ten players get cards. If Europe is so easy, this would be a time for some Americans to prove it.
Not to be overlooked is the option of LIV Golf.
The Saudi-funded league already is making plans for 2024 and beyond and there’s still no telling how the PGA Tour’s proposed commercial venture with Saudi Arabia’s national wealth fund will affect that, if the deal even gets completed.
But first is “LIV Golf Promotions,” a 72-hole qualifying event — yes, 72 holes! — over three days on Dec. 8-10 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates capital. That will decide which three players can join LIV Golf League in 2024 and get drafted by the likes of Iron Heads or Smash or HyFlyers.
The qualifier is open to just about anyone interested, from elite amateurs (such as Walker Cup players) to Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup players over the last five years. Yes, that makes even Tiger Woods eligible.
Who actually wants to play is another story.
LIV Golf leader Greg Norman says he’s had several conversations with players interested in joining LIV, though he said that a year ago and got only the B-list at best. And it’s unlikely any top player would join given the $20 million purses on the PGA Tour and the lack of world ranking points (and access to majors) on LIV.
For those who no longer have cards, or might be disgruntled about a PGA Tour that is increasingly divided between the stars and those stuck with playing for only $8 million in prize money, it’s an option to consider.
That option worked out well for Talor Gooch when LIV began. Gooch had one win against a weak field in the fall and had just cracked the top 50 in the world. Now he has raked in over $45 million in two short seasons.
And it worked out for Eugenio Chacarra, who left Oklahoma State for LIV and has one win on the LIV Golf circuit, one on the Asian Tour and more than $10 million in two seasons.
Neither is in the the majors next year unless he goes through qualifying for the Opens. That’s the tradeoff for playing a league that guarantees over $1.5 million for finishing last every week.
For players struggling to make the Korn Ferry Tour, for those fresh out of college, for PGA Tour players who grind every year just to keep their cards, is it worth going to Abu Dhabi in December for a chance to join LIV?
The PGA Tour is unlikely to suspend anyone who tries because a qualifying tournament would not be the same as an official LIV event (though they would still need a media release).
These are the options to sort through. Go through Europe. Roll the dice through a limited schedule. Spend a year in what amounts to the minor leagues. Seek guaranteed cash with LIV. The options have rarely been this varied. The game is only getting harder.

‘They have been ostracized:’ LIV Golf pro praises players for ‘massive risk’
Graeme McDowell praised these young LIV stars for their "massive risk."

Top collegiate golfers usually had their road map set for professional golf after leaving school. Try to make it to the PGA Tour, whether it be through Q-School, the Korn Ferry Tour, other feeder and mini tours, etc.
However, since LIV Golf’s launch, the new league has offered a new path forward for aspiring pros, and a few have jumped at the opportunity.
Spaniards Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra and David Puig both bailed on plans to play additional years of college golf to join LIV Golf in 2022. James Piot, the 2021 U.S. Amateur winner, also went straight from the college ranks to LIV Golf.
Lopez-Chacarra shocked the golf world when he turned down likely Korn Ferry Tour status in announcing he would return to Oklahoma State for a fifth year before making an about-face and joining LIV Golf two months later.
Puig competed in LIV’s inaugural London event in June 2022 as an amateur before leaving Arizona State in September of that year to turn professional and officially join the league.
In an interview with the Asian Tour, early LIV adopter Graeme McDowell praised Lopez-Chacarra and Puig for their decisions to join the Saudi-backed PGA Tour rival.
“It is interesting for these young guys, you look at Chacarra and Puig in particular, they have chosen the LIV path, and we are not really familiar with that path,” McDowell said. “They have taken a massive risk in a way but they have both kicked on and I’m really happy with these guys.”

From LIV…back to the PGA Tour? One pro’s quest for reverse defection
Last year in the runup to LIV’s inaugural event, McDowell also reached out to Turk Pettit, the 2021 NCAA Championship winner, and offered him a spot on his team for LIV’s first season. Andy Ogletree, the 2019 U.S. Amateur champion, also signed up for LIV’s first event.
All five players were suspended from PGA Tour-affiliated events as a result of their choice to play LIV events. While neither Ogletree, Piot or Pettit had membership on the Korn Ferry Tour, Lopez-Chacarra and Puig, were likely to gain at least that status upon finishing college.
In the fall of 2022, the PGA Tour made changes to the PGA Tour University program , giving full PGA Tour membership to the top finisher for the next year and a half after the end of their senior season, and Nos. 2-5 earning full Korn Ferry memberships.
Ludvig Aberg took advantage of the changes to become the first player to graduate college and go straight to the PGA Tour through the program. Already this season, Vanderbilt junior Gordon Sargent locked up PGA Tour membership at the end of the NCAA season through the PGA Tour U Accelerated program.
Lopez-Chacarra was likely to gain Korn Ferry Tour status as he was third in the ranking when he announced he would use his fifth year of eligibility at OSU. Puig, meanwhile, made himself ineligible for the ranking when he played in the LIV London event. In a likely effort to dissuade players from joining LIV in early 2022, the PGA Tour told college players they would be ineligible for benefits from the PGA Tour University program if they played in any professional event that did not earn Official World Golf Ranking points.

LIV Golf officially denied World Ranking points. Here’s what that means
LIV Golf did not earn OWGR points at the time and its request to be recognized by the ranking body was recently denied .
“They have been ostracised a little bit from the young golfing world, but they have used the LIV Golf League as a platform and taken things to the next level,” McDowell said. “I’m happy to see them kick on the way they are – they are going to be great young players. I hope the world opens up for them and they get the opportunity to try and win Majors as well.”
That scenario, however, looks unlikely, with LIV Golf not earning world ranking points anytime soon, two major championships recently announcing they would not alter their entry criteria in 2024 to account for LIV golfers.
And while Lopez-Chacarra and Puig have had success on LIV, earning $3,284,583 and $3,903,333, respectively, in 2023 with Lopex-Chacarra won an event in 2022, the other three golfers have had a tougher time.
Ogletree didn’t play another LIV event in 2022, but will rejoin the league full-time in 2024 after winning the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
Pettit, meanwhile was dropped by his team after the 2022 season and joined the Asian Tour. However, he recently made it through the first stage of Q-School after his one-year ban for playing in the LIV Golf Team Championship last October lapsed ( or lapsed enough ). He’s seeking to become the first former LIV Golfer to earn PGA Tour status .
Piot has played in every LIV event in 2023, but he finished 47th in the standings, meaning he was relegated and will have to re-earn a spot in the league by finishing in the top three of the LIV Promotions event.

Coming out of California, USA, Korn are one of the most influential bands of the past thirty years. Since forming in 1993, they effectively created the genre of Nu-Metal and are one of the biggest heavy metal bands in the world to this day.
The band was formed out of three members of the experimental thrash metal band L.A.P.D. When that band broke up the remaining members, or at least the ones still talking to each other, drafted in vocalist Jonathan Davis and guitarist Brian “Head” Welch and heavy metal history was made.
They instantly made a splash, legend has it that they even drew a crowd outside the studio they recorded their demo tapes in, since their music was so thrillingly different to anything being released at the time.
By 1994 they’d released their self titled debut album, which remains one of the most influential rock albums of the 1990’s and has sold 10 million copies in the years since. This is especially astounding considering that in terms of lyrical content and musical style, Korn were up their with Nirvana in terms of sheer darkness.
The music can get very difficult to listen to at points, with Davis bravely opening up about childhood traumas with unflinching honesty, all the while backed with Welch’s dissonant, wrenching guitar riffs. With that in mind, their astronomic sales and influence becomes a testament to their ability to connect with the lost and distraught more than anything else, and if that’s not a truly inspiring thing then I don’t know what is.
Korn might not be the most critically acclaimed band around but the figures and the fans speak for themselves, and no matter what Pitchfork might think, they speak louder than anything else in the world of rock and roll.
Live reviews
Korn: a full circle experience, crop or otherwise and on beyond! When I first saw Korn my husband suggested going to their concert back in 1998. Neither one of us knew much about them or their music at the time and what I knew did not make me feel stoked about going at the time other than to keep Steve company. I was certain I would be bored to death and how happy I am to say how wrong I was! I did a complete about face within the course of one night and now want to see them every time they come to our area. Up to now we have seen them about thirteen times all told as well as singer Jonathan Davis on his solo tour when I won our way in to it with a meet and greet! Davis knows how to work the crowd encouraging audience participation. Not only that, but I enjoy his soulfulness and expression and how his voice alternates between singing, whispering and shouting during different songs and moments. His bag piping intro to "Shoots and Ladders" is one part of any given concert of theirs I look forward to at the concerts. As we have been to their concerts on and off over the years, we have seen them in different forms with a couple members coming and going over the years, one of whom returned to the band within the last year. Before his departure after the first seven albums drummer David Silveria provided the band with his funky back beat and style. After he resigned from the band Davis whose main instrument was originally drums, contributed in that department along with tapping Terry Bozzio from new wave band Missing Persons for Korn's 2007 album "Untitled." While on the road Korn borrowed now-former Slipknot's Joey Jordison whose thrashy, cacophonous sound provided the perfect rhythm.
In 2008 Korn searched for a new permanent drummer during which former Army of Anyone's Ray Luzier auditioned and was subsequently hired after nailing multiple drum solos from their repertoire. With Korn's constant shape shifting of their brand of nu metal over the years, Ray with his highly versatile style was and is the perfect match for them. Bassist Reggie "Fieldy" Arvizu with his slap bass technique has said that he regards himself as a second percussionist within the band, thus complimenting Ray's drumming. Furthermore I get a kick out of how Fieldy sometimes seems to dance as he's playing, as if he were doing the cha-cha!
Prior to leaving in 2004 and later rejoining the band in 2013, Brian "Head" Welch was one half of the guitar section along with James "Munky" Shaffer. In 2004 Welch left the band to raise his daughter during which time he also became a Christian. Throughout those interim years Korn experimented with other styles and sub styles including dub step and Shaffer expertly played both guitar parts on recordings and the road, although Korn also used hired guns in both areas to play the second guitar part at times. When listening both in concert and to albums from different points in their career, though, one notices that the guitar passages are more nuanced with two in the lineup. Furthermore, diehard fans across the board welcomed Welch back with thunderous applause and loud cheers when I saw Korn last year. Through the years at every concert I have attended Korn have always delivered the goods whilst firing on all cylinders. In addition to amazing props and backdrops used show by show, they put slightly different spins on their performances whether they are in a smaller venue with a more intimate setting or a bigger arena where getting caught up in the hoopla becomes highly infectious! It is interesting to note as well that Davis does not tend to chat up the audience to a high degree; rather the band segue their way into songs one by one all but nonstop. And nothing could be better than a meet/greet opportunity with the band to make for a grand night out!

The first time I saw Korn was at Slipknot's Prepare for Hell Tour in January 2015. Unfortunately, I'd arrived late for the first band but made it in time just as they walked off stage and twenty minutes later, the Kings of nu-metal took over the stage. I'd been getting into Korn a few months before, and we honestly more excited to see them than Slipknot - and they didn't fail to disappoint, blaring out all their hits for 40 minutes. I remember wanting/needing to see them at a full concert and a few weeks later, I was giving the opportunity to see them again at Brixton. I snatched the tickets up and counted the days down until they day arrived.
And arrived it did.
We arrived an hour before the doors opened, and the que was already bending round the corner of the building. Finally, an hour and 10 minutes over the opening time later, we were allowed inside.
My friend and I were in the unreserved seating. As soon as we cleared through all the checkpoints, we made our way to the front, climbing over rows. Three rows from the front, we found our seat with a good birds eye view of the stage. We waited with anticipation through the first two starter bands, eager for the main event to start. Finally, and after a few teasers, Ray Luzier came on stage to start of the night with Blind. The crowd cheered, and adrenaline pumped through everyone's veins as Fiedly appeared on the bass. Finally, the three words growled out from Davis's mouth "Are you ready?" and the unforgettable night begun.
Korn blasted their way though their first debut album, released 20 years ago and tonight was all about celebrating the release of an album that changed the world. Every note was perfect, and Davis's voice boomed through the speakers and pierced through our souls. The album ended with the emotional 'Daddy' before Davis slammed the microphone down; walking off the stage. The lights dimmed and everyone cheered and clapped.
A minute later, the iconic microphone was brought on stage and the band reappeared to play us two hits (Falling Away From Me and Here To Stay) before ending the night out with Freak On A Leash.
Out of 10, I'd give this concert a 1,000. One of the best bands I've seen live to date, and it defiantly won't be my last.
I went to KoRn with my dad. I promised him every time KoRn plays in the Netherlands we would go.
So I was happy I found out they were playing in Utrecht. I go to school there so I knew it wasn't that far away.
This was my first time in TivoliVredenburg. I read some bad things about the service. So I was a bit worried.
The service was good! I've never been treated so good as a person in a wheelchair. They helped with everything!
So as we say in dutch: "petje af Tivoli!"
The band before KoRn wasn't that good. I actually hated it. There was a little moshpit, someone got hit, everything stopped.. boring..
Then KoRn started! It was a great opening, very intense..
They played some songs they didn't play for a long long time, like 4U. Of Course the bagpipe solo was amazing and Ray's solo as well!
The only thing I didn't like was seeing Jonathan Davis wearing an oxygen mask.. I don't know how he's feeling right now.. I Hope he's okay and is enjoying the rest of his tour!
KoRn thank you for the great show, this was really the best show I ever been to! (4th time)
My husband and I attended Korn's show, October11th in Tampa, Florida. They played for 2 electric hours and played songs they knew the fans would love to hear and they hit their mark. In the mix of their song set, they played 3 of their new songs from their upcoming album, The Serenity of Suffering due out October 21st and if that was a small taste of what's to come....our taste buds are sure to be satisfied for sure! This group has been together for over 20 years and they keep making amazing music. JD was clearly having as much fun on stage as we did as fans, dancing, interacting with the crowd and guitarist, Munky, Head and bass player Fieldy. Ray is a master on his massive drum set and I dare you to try and keep up with your eyes and his hands as he's pounding those skins. If your a true fan, you wait and hope to hear that first note of JD breathing air into his magical bagpipes, and as witnessed at last night show and shows of the past, it was no exception. Once you hear that first note from his pipes, there's only one thing you need to ask...Are You Ready!!!!
Seen Korn many times in the past. Thinking it's been 5+ times so far. I'm a big fan , no doubt, but each time the playing time has dwindled to 45 minutes and getting smaller. Granted they weren't headlining and Slipknot was, but still... The production and music was great, but its seems that ever since the old bass player came back they have been playing mostly songs off the first couple of albums. I definitely like those songs, don't get me wrong, but I think it would do them good to take some statistics from Spotify or the like and determine what the top 15 songs being listened to are. Also, I love loud music. Love it! BUT you will be deafened by this concert. For once I brought ear plugs and it saved me. Sounds stupid , but consider yourself warned. I mean the "Marshall stacks" and the speakers hanging on either side of the stage looked like arena side burns. Think they may be growing! ha!
Korn was Great as always ,I was kind of suprised that they place wasnt packed. The deadest Korn concert I have ever gone to.But it could be the Venue .Not the best venue in my opnion .One dont dare forget to get your ticket from your spouse or they wont let you back to your seat ..and 2 if you go out one way you wont be able to get back the same way necessarily like what happened to me.They wont let you. .Knotfest was packed and alot crazier then this place but I never got asked for my ticket to get back to my seat.Considering people were seat hoping all night anyways and they upgraded a bunch if not all the lawn area to seating ..Pretty damn dumb .I figure if I own a seat and someone sits in it.I just get it back .Pretty damn strict for a place that has never really been a popular venue and sure wasnt packed last night .
With their sound system and great instrumentation all locked into a great groove, Korn are better than they ever were before! As to any wild antics, the one that stood out that was unfortunately unfavourable entailed a nasty woman whom I called out after she attempted to shoehorn her way up to the front where I'd staked out a spot and then subsequently attacked my husband. Hiccups of that nature along with a moderate delay with no explanation nonetheless paid off, in particular with Jonathan Davis as he serenaded us on the bagpipes upon kicking off 'Shoots and Ladders'! Not only that but the pre-concert meet/greet was super as was a little recognition in the form of a point and smile from Munky Shaffer up front toward the end of the night!
Terrible show and a massive disappointment.
There were no warnings before entering the venue about use of strobe lights, and I didn't see any signs indicating use of strobe lights at all. As a result, I was caught off guard by the use of the strobes and felt sick for a couple of days afterwards.
The show itself used a lot of strong coloured lights to illuminate the stage too, which combined with the smoke machine, as someone who is colour blind meant that I could not see the stage for 80% of the show. The times I could, my eyes were hurting too much from the strobes to see anything.
So overall, it was a massive let down for a band I have wanted to see live for many years.
Korn is a teenage crush, and a trip to the good old years everytime I listen to them.
I saw them around 2005 in Portugal in a festival, and it was an amazing experience. Easily one of the heaviest concerts I've ever been, the mosh pit was insane if that's what you're looking for. The look of the band is great, with Jonathan's signature microphone, and with cages with dancer girls in, creating a really cool atmosphere.
Their music is as good live as it's on album, and their sound matured to be more eletronic and more new age, but for me this is still focused on getting back to the classics and listening to those really heavy songs they had, that made me in part who I am today.
Wow. What an amazing concert! The venue was decent (The Fillmore) but there is little seating available, so be aware.
As for Korn, it was the twentieth anniversary of their debut album and they played it in its entirety. There are some sound bites of out takes on the album that they included, as well. It was kinda cool because they replicated the album exactly as you hear it. After they went through that playlist, they did another 4 or 5 popular songs, so it wasn't just the album. You can search the set list online. Apparently it changes from concert to concert.
It was my second time to see Korn )first time as a headliner) and it was definitely worth it!

Korn's Drummer Ray Luzier Tests Positive For COVID-19
Tickets for Korn’s 2022 North American tour will go on sale via Ticketmaster also on Friday, Dec. 17, at 9 a.m. local time. Pre-sale will be available to Citi cardholders starting Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 12 p.m. local time until Thursday, Dec. 16, at 10 p.m. local time through Citi Entertainment.

Korn Ferry Tour announces 2023 schedule, new end-of-season format
- Associated Press

The path for 30 players to reach the PGA Tour starts in the Bahamas next year as part of a Korn Ferry Tour schedule that has the same number of tournaments, nearly $8 million more in prize money and a revamped end of the year.
The Korn Ferry Tour released its 2023 schedule on Tuesday with changes that already had been in the works, starting with a minimum $1 million purse for the regular season, with $180,000 to the winner.
The change comes at the end of the year. Instead of 25 players earning PGA Tour cards at the end of the regular season, the Korn Ferry goes to a playoff system similar to the FedEx Cup with increased points and reduced fields after each of the four weeks. The top 156 players qualify for Albertson Boise Open, with 144 players at the Simmons Bank Open in Tennessee, 120 players advancing to the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship in Ohio and the top 75 going to the Korn Ferry Tour Championship in Indiana.
All playoff events have $1.5 million purses ($270,000 for the winner).
"I am thrilled with the momentum we're carrying into this next chapter of our tour's history,'' said Alex Baldwin, who enters her fifth season as Korn Ferry Tour president.
The Korn Ferry Tour previously awarded 25 PGA Tour cards from the regular season and 25 cards from the postseason of fields that were a mix of Korn Ferry and PGA Tour players. Now there will be 30 cards, with at least five cards from a traditional Q-school and 10 cards available to the leading players from the European tour.
As for the Korn Ferry Tour schedule, two Louisiana tournaments and one in Maine are no longer on the schedule. They have been replaced by new tournaments in Chile, Oklahoma and New Jersey.
The season opens in January with two tournaments in the Bahamas, two in Latin America (Panama and Colombia), and then it is off five weeks before resuming in late March.
Korn Announce Rescheduled European Tour Dates For 2021
Korn have confirmed their return to Europe in May and June next year.

Having been unable to tour their latest album The Nothing in Europe since its release in September last year, Korn have now confirmed that they'll finally be bringing the record across the pond in the summer of 2021.
The Bakersfield nu-metal titans were originally scheduled to hit several European arenas with Gojira in May and June 2020, as well as taking on Download Festival . However, coronavirus has obviously scrapped those plans, so the band have moved the tour back an entire year.

"Our European summer tour dates have been rescheduled to maintain the safety of our fans, crew, and venue staff," Korn say. "All existing tickets will be honored for the rescheduled shows in May/June 2021. We look forward to returning next summer."
Catch them live at the following:
28 Prague, Czech Republic @ Tipsport Arena 29 Bratislava, Slovakia @ NTC Arena 31 Warsaw, Poland @ Arena COS Torwar*
3 Budapest, Hungary @ Budapest Arena 8 Amsterdam, Netherlands @ AFAS Live 14 Berlin, Germany @ Verti Music Hall 17 Stockholm, Sweden @ Gröna Lund ( *Ticketholders for our previously scheduled show in Łódź will be able to swap tickets for the new Poland date in Warsaw at Arena COS Torwar. More information will be emailed to you directly. )

The news follows the rescheduling of Korn's mega-shows in Los Angeles with System Of A Down and Faith No More , which take place at the Banc of California Stadium on Friday, May 21, and Saturday, May 22.

KoRn Tour 2023 - 2024
KoRn 2023-2024 tour : Jonathan Davis, James "Munky" Shaffer, Brian "Head" Welch and Ray Luzier form the nu-metal band Korn, currently on hiatus due to the departure of bassist Reginald Arvizu.
In the late '90s, rock rap was all the rage thanks to bands like Limp Biskit, Kid Rock and Korn, who offered a literally crazy approach with their aggressive approach, Although Korn only became known when their album "Follow the Leader" reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart in 1998, the Bakersfield band. The Korn California, has been producing music since 1993. At their peak, Korn’s tours were filled with teenage boys with loose pants and chains of nails lashing out in the mosques as they listened to the band’s booming confessions, Jonathan Davis. These young men are easily moshing while listening to the booming confessions of singer Jonathan Davis. They have released 13 albums, the most recent of which is The Nothing, released in 2019. They are a rare example of nu-bandmetal that broke through in the 21st century.
Metal band Korn debuted in the early 1990s and quickly became one of the most important bands in the genre. Korn’s aggressive and imaginative style began to attract a wide fan base with successful albums such as their self-titled debut and their multi-track1996 platinum, "Life Is Peachy". Korn are still one of the most inventive nu-metal bands making music today, after several decades and several albums. During each tour of Korn, fans can expect live versions of the band’s biggest hits and more recent songs, including fan favorites such as "Blind", "Freak on a Leash" and "Got the Life".
KoRn 2023-2024 tickets start at $24 and average $756.

Is the European Tour basically the Korn Ferry at this point?

Orangegravy.
That tour appears to be dead. Other than when the big Euro names show up to keep them eligible for the Ryder Cup, that tour has turned into a feeder tour just like the Korn Ferry. Is that accurate or have I just happened to watch the few tournaments that are the equivalent to an opposite field event on the PGA Tour?
Edit: I thought I saw it flash on the screen that the winner of the Irish open was due to get 199+k pounds?

FWIW, I prefer the ET over the PGA most times. The coverage is better and the fans don't act like they were rounded up from a trailer park or Walmart. Plus, they don't take themselves as seriously so

Assume you’re trolling yes, this year, europe is locked down. Maybe next year as well the way it’s going. No spectators, limited sponsorship etc. Players can’t play both tours due to quara

PGA Tour is not going well too, I see zero spectators at those tournaments 🤔

I think with Covid, some of the bigger Euro players who also have PGA status (Rory, Fleetwood, Stenson, Westwood, Casey) are choosing to stay based in the US. Shane Lowry did play in the US Open and then traveled back to Ireland for his home country's Open but he's an exception and not the rule. Euro guys that qualified for the PGA and US Open, like Thomas Pieters, wonder what he did? He also just had a baby, not sure where he's living.
Also since Ryder Cup was supposed to be last weekend and the fact that the teams were locked in points wise for the most part, it doesn't make sense to be constantly hopping the Atlantic.
I think some of the bigger upcoming events might have better fields. With the PGA tour essentially having 50 events in the next season, I would expect quite a few of these fall events to look like Korn Ferry events also.

however, we’re not the ones who had to invent an alternative to the Ryder Cup because we couldn’t win it..

The Euro Tour is on a long run of growth. You may have noticed that some things have been affected by a bug going around this year though.

Players will go where the money is. These threads always turn into chest beating etc....The US tends to pay more in golf. So golfers want to go there. It's nothing against Europe...it looks like on average the purses are 2X over here
Not a great deal of great Canadian actors stay here to do Canadian theater. They go to Hollywood....i wonder why!

Can you define "long run of growth?" Prize money, events, etc?
I agree that even with COVID that the tour does seem to have a lot less star power than, say, 10 years ago. How many euro top 40 player types really just stay on the euro tour like you used to see? Don't they all come to PGA? FTR, not a euro tour hater at all, I quite like watching it on Saturday and Sunday mornings and hearing non-shlocky announcers.

Score one for the country club snobs...
I had relatives that were on a fixed income and lived in a trailer park. They were nice folks and loved to golf (public course) and would take me when I was a kid. They weren't yahoos...

King_Slender
I think it's a relic - with the globalization of the game, the best players want to play against the best competition week in and week out (which, incidentally, comes with the most money). The top European players probably think it's an annoyance to have to compete there to make it to the Ryder Cup (unless they're one of the top 5 Euros in the world rankings) so you generally see guy play a tourney or two in their home country out of tradition, the Scottish open before The Open Champioship, and any end of year things in The Race to Dubai if they are in the running.
It's better than the Korn Ferry because there is still top flight talent that roll in and out of tournaments.
PGA Tour is not going well too, I see zero spectators at those tournaments 🤔

I'm trying to think of the player who won carrying his own bag a few months back?
VERY accomplished player, and I think he needed points or SOMETHING in the WGR.
Not sure he was even ranked that week on the ET? But the talent is deeper on the ET I would suspect. The number of young hungry guys is probably moreso the KF.
I knew Brooks would be good when he was winning on the ET.

I tuned into coverage of the Euro event over the weekend. Not sure if coverage is like this every week or just because it was the Irish Open but it actually felt like I was watching golf coverage. I didn't care if I had no idea who the players were, I felt like I had a feel for player's rounds and really felt when they made a bad shot/decision. Definitely going to record the Scottish Open and check out more coverage.

I'm not a country club member but, to quote Michael Caine, I'm a miserable, grumpy elitist, and that works for me.

Right? Whether someone does or doesn't have a ton of money should not determine if they can act with some class.
It's possible to have fun without being an asshat.
It’s ultimately a “feeder tour” but it’s key to developing many of the best golfers in the world until they attain enough status and money to move to the US for most of the year, have year round warm weather, and have continuity in their schedules to practice for the 3 majors here.
Also, take Brooks Koepka. He played the Challenge tour in Europe before even working his way to the Euro tour and then got to the PGA Tour.

I think you're misunderstanding me, but that's largely my fault since I've not been very specific.
My grandparents and parents were working class, as were my wife's. We're the first generation to go to college and earn a solid living - she's a physician and I own an electrical engineering/contracting outfit -but we don't forget where we came from and use our influence to lobby for things like a universal living wage program for our area, which is predominantly rural, lower-income and service-based jobs that don't have a good future.
Golf is an entertainment venue and people have diverse ideas about how to have fun. I just think that shouting nonsense after a tee-off or putt is kind of lowbrow and disrespectful to the athletes competing in these events. And that's probably elitist, hence my quote.
The trailer park and Walmart references were meant as a trope or stereotype of the sort of behaviour you see on golf coverage. No disrespect intended but I apologize if I inflicted any.

The ET must be an echelon below the PGA Tour, but the tradition and tournaments and fields of the ET can’t be compared with Korn Ferry.
And on tv coverage, the Euros are superb at covering events with knowledgeable and articulate commentators that don’t say “he’s got a four footer” when it’s already on the screen. And I guess a lot less funds.

Then it sounds like we have similar backgrounds...I just didn't get the need to take a gratuitous shot at Walmart shoppers and trailer park dwellers...Yes, it's shorthand for 'uncouth,' but part of the reason that's so is because it keeps getting perpetuated. No harm no foul...
Btw, the only thing I feel elite about is my ability to chunk or blade a chip from even the most perfect of lies : )

Well, in fairness to ‘Murica, I think the man thong he probably picked up in Europe.

Euro Tour is a great operation, I prefer watching ET to PGA, that being said. Euro Tour for most is definitely a stepping stone on the way to PGA and more $$$. There are always exceptions.

Plus, they don't take themselves as seriously so their YouTube channel has more entertaining content like club challenges.
Wait one minute hold the presses--- I live in a trailer park and do not act like the southern end of a north bound mule. Actually back in the day on the mini tours in Florida one of my nicknames was Trailer Park because I lived in a carny friend of mine's trailer in Winter Park.

It's nothing against Europe...it looks like on average the purses are 2X over here Not a great deal of great Canadian actors stay here to do Canadian theater. They go to Hollywood....i wonder why!
Live in Florida and play golf year round with no state income tax. It has an appeal even for a person already living in the States. I would imagine, unless you had a deep national pride keeping you there, it is even more appealing from a financial standpoint coming from a European country with typically higher taxes.

Nothing new here. The dough has been in the US since golf stone age. Most active amateur golfers are in the US. US seem to have dough enough even with the globalization shite going on. Europs don’t. But anyhow, money enough to keep guys reasonably happy staying. With the help of China, the Rolex tournaments. All europs don’t flourish over there. Beef for one. Matt Wallace should have stayed. Its not a Korn Ferry. Its on the other side of the big waters. Money will attract some, but its not like they go to where they belong. They belong here. But Rory didn’t even play Irish this year. Too much virus and too little dough. But I tell you, I havent seen Rory as happy as when finally winning Irish. And Alex had his hey days here.
whet the virus stuff is over I hope some of the guys will come home.
