Talking With ‘Swiftie Dads’ at a Taylor Swift Concert

The doors to Lincoln Financial Field technically opened at 4:30 p.m. last Friday, three and a half hours before Taylor Swift would launch her first of three consecutive, sold-out Eras Tour shows here in Philadelphia, but for many fans (and their parents) in attendance, those doors opened days, months, even years earlier than that. Because being (or raising) a Taylor Swift fan is an all-encompassing, time-transcending experience.

The sweeping premise of the Eras Tour—which spans the many albums and “eras” of 33-year-old Swift’s career, which began in Nashville when she was 16—became an opportunity for young attendees to dress up as their favorite musical or aesthetic moment from the Swift canon, referencing the myriad music videos, inside jokes, and niche Swiftie lore that fuels the fandom. Die-hard fans started documenting their Eras Tour outfits on TikTok—and some have been dressing up their  Swiftie dads , too. Where there were once  bored dads at a One Direction concert , these were ecstatic dads at a Taylor Swift concert.

In Philly, the legions of guardians both dutifully chaperoning and proudly accompanying their kids to this experience had already logged untold hours and dollars between them. Weeks spent hoping to score tickets after Swift’s  52-date national tour sold out on Ticketmaster so quickly back in November, it became a calamity seismic enough to racket the issue up the ranks of the U.S. judicial system. Countless hours spent listening to Taylor songs on the drive here from near and far…and during daily carpool singalongs en route to school, soccer practices, and piano lessons. Years spent loving Swiftie partners who then helped raise Swiftie kids. Some even made the long-haul journey here  without tickets, because their kids were glad to just “be breathing the same air” as their favorite artist on the planet. Swift—who was born in West Reading, Pennsylvania, about 60 miles northwest of Philly—greeted  67,812 people inside the Linc that Friday, though  thousands more ticketless fans (some estimate 10,000 to 20,000) posted up outside the venue to listen in. On  Twitter , Swift said it was a dream to play “three nights in the stadium I used to see on TV when my dad watched Eagles games every Sunday.” Time, curious time.

Parking lots outside the stadium opened even earlier to tailgaters, who began gathering on the asphalt around noon to grill, craft and exchange beaded friendship bracelets, and play pump-up Taylor songs on this hot, late-spring day. Weary but unbowed, the Swiftie dads jammed along; others sought out shady patches of grass or sat inside their idling SUVs with the AC on as temperatures crept into the 80s. A few fathers who didn’t make it inside smoked stogies in the parking lot while the sun started to set, waiting for ride-home duty to commence.

Katherine, 15, Benemil, 52, and Candice, 13 Richmond, VA

So, how many hours did you wait to get tickets? Benemil: Six hours. It was an experience, but it’s all worth it because of… [ gestures to daughters ] Are you blushing now? See what I have to do for you?

How long have you been a Taylor Swift dad? Benemil [ laughing ]: Let me see. October, November, December… Seven months? There’s no pressure. The drive up [from Virginia was] an interesting one. It’s three, almost four hours of live singalong. I’m surprised they still have voices now.

Are you a big concert person? Benemil: Yeah, though we’re more ’80s. Oh, here’s an interesting story: [The day] we got married—by a JOP, Justice Of the Peace—in the evening, we went to see Dave Matthews .

Do you have a favorite Taylor Swift song? Benemil: Katherine, answer that for me. Katherine: He plays  Midnights a lot.

Do you think your dad’s in his  Midnights era? Katherine: I think he’s in his debut [Swift’s 2006 self-titled album] era. He likes country.

Hannah-Lynn, 17, and Robert, 58 Hampton, VA

What brings you here to the Taylor Swift concert? Robert: I was a firefighter for 18 years. Developed lymphoma cancer in 2016. Went through nine rounds of chemo, stem cell transplant, lost the left lung, went into septic shock. I almost died in the ER, so I dedicated my life to my kids.

Hannah-Lynn: Now we’re going to Taylor Swift.

Robert: She says, “If I get Taylor Swift concert tickets, will you take me?” I said, “Sure, not a problem.” So here we are.

And how long have you been a Swiftie dad? Robert: Well, ever since she’s been a Swiftie girl.

Hannah-Lynn: Yeah. Like my whole life. My first actual CD was  1989 .

What would your dad’s era be? Hannah-Lynn: Definitely [Swift’s 2006 self-titled] debut. He’s from South Carolina, so he gives off the country vibes.

Robert: Old-school [stuff like] Hank Williams Jr., Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, all old country music… God works in mysterious ways. So here I am, at Taylor Swift with my daughter.

What song are you most excited to hear tonight? Hannah-Lynn: I love “Illicit Affairs” and “All Too Well (10 Minute Version).” I’m so excited. This is actually my first concert, too.

First concert ever? Hannah-Lynn: Yeah. Everybody’s telling me like, “Wait, once you see Taylor Swift, all the other concerts aren’t going to match up to it.” I feel like I’m totally perfectly fine with that. Because it’s for Taylor, obviously.

Hunter, 7, and John, 37 Clayton, DE

How long have you been Taylor Swift fans? John: That’s the big question. His whole life. I got into it a little bit later, with  Midnights . But they got me now. We’re just hoping to get seats.

Is this the line to get tickets? John: No, not really. They’re not even really giving tickets out here, you have to go on Ticketmaster. But everybody here is hoping to get tickets and I guess if not, we’re just going to hang out and listen to the concert from here.

What song are you most excited to hear? John: Do you know, baby?

Hunter: “Speak Now.” It’s really calm. It’s kind of loud. I like the kind of loud stuff.

John: I’m looking forward to “Anti-Hero.”

Can you tell me about your outfits tonight? Hunter: I’m from the album  Red , from… What am I from?

John: Oh, that’s right. The best man [from the  “I Bet You Think About Me" music video .] And I’m Miles Teller.

What’s your era? Assata: My favorite era, I feel like probably  Red because it was just so iconic. But my favorite album is  Lover .

What era do you think your dad is? Assata: I’m going to have to go with  Red or  1989 . He just gives very much  Red energy.

Darren: I like “Anti-Hero,” and of course “Lavender Haze.” She didn’t know I was undercover like that, listening as long as I’ve been listening!

And if you guys can’t get tickets, do you think you’ll just stand outside? Darren: Yeah, we’ll be outside, definitely. Taking in the vibes, taking in the energy. Already sharing and trading bracelets. And then probably be back tomorrow or Sunday. So, she got to go in. She got to get in. Those are sacrifices we make, right? For the Swifties. So I got to be a nifty Swiftie daddy, you know?

What is your favorite Taylor Swift era? Dave: Speak Now , probably.

And that’s the purple? Dave: Yeah, exactly. The two of us [with wife Bernadette] are both in our  Speak Now . She is a mix of  Reputation and  Lover .

What’s your favorite Taylor Swift song? Adelynn: All of them.

Dave: She’s really been digging “Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince.”

Adelynn: No! I listen to “Don’t Blame Me”!

Dave: Oh, “Don’t Blame Me,” yeah. You’re right.

I like your  Reputation snake earrings, too. Dave: We found them on sale somewhere so we had to get them. There was a lot of planning going into this.

We are here from a really long way away. We’re here from India. And we actually planned our whole summer vacation around this, because they are Swifties. So we came about 10,000 miles, to Philadelphia, to watch this show. We told her this morning.

This morning! She thought she was having major FOMO that she was in Philly and not able to go here. But we bought the tickets in November.

No way. And are you a Taylor Swift fan yourself? Well, I have listened to it a lot because I drive my kids around. And I must say, I’ve never seen a city overtaken by fans the way I have here. The whole [hotel] lobby was full of Swifties.

What about it speaks to you? Daniel [ laughing ]: I’ll tell you, I really would just listen to Taylor Swift if she was on. But once  Folklore came out—I actually really like  Folklore . That is one I was going out and listening to by myself in the car. And this one, she likes  Midnights .

Midnights ? What song are you most excited to hear tonight? Joey: Uh, “Vigilante…” [ looks at Daniel ]

Daniel: You can say it.

Joey: “Vigilante Shit.”

What era do you think your dad is in? Delaney: I think he’s  1989 . He’s definitely  1989 .

“Shake It Off,” what does that song make you feel? Bryan: Just a great catchy tune.

Emma: Makes him want to shake!

Bryan: Yeah. That’s it.

How long have you been a Taylor Swift dad? Tom [ to Ethan ]: How long have I been a Taylor Swift dad?

Ethan: Since 2009.

What happened in 2009? Ethan: I listened to “Love Story” on the radio. That was my entry point.

Do you have a favorite Taylor Swift song? Ethan: That’s a great question. I think my favorite Taylor Swift song right now would have to be “This Is Me Trying.”

Tom: I like that one with the red dress.

Which one? Tom: She’s in the desert. “Remember me with the red dress…”

Ethan: Oh, “Wildest Dreams.” Taylor’s Version, obviously.

Tom: Yeah. I like  that video .

What do you think each of your eras are? Ethan: I think my era would be Red (Taylor's Version) , and I think his era,  Evermore .

Tom: I’ll take his word for it.

Kevin, 54 Baltimore, MD

How long have you been a Swiftie dad? Since  1989 . My daughter was a teenager, and as teenage daughters do, we started drifting apart. When  1989 came out, it was common ground for us to come together. It really brought us together and made us closer, and it’s been great ever since.

Did you listen to Taylor on the drive up here? We did. We actually listened to the last two tour stop [setlist] playlists so we could get up to speed.

And even though  1989 is your favorite, what do you think is your era? Hard to say. I would say, probably, the thing I feel…  Reputation .

What about  Reputation speaks to you? I think that’s the one where she really stands up and pushes back really against everybody and says, “I’ve taken enough crap, now I’m giving it back.”

Also—can you tell me where this shirt came from? Actually, I was watching “What to Do at Taylor Swift Concerts” on TikTok, and I saw an ad for it.

That’s amazing. Is your For You feed just full of Taylor Swift videos? Oh, it absolutely is. And more than that, fan events. The thing I love about Taylor Swift, as much as her lyrics, is the fact that she makes that effort to reach out to her fans and make that personal connection. You can see it really changes people’s lives. I think anybody that’s put themselves in a place where they can make somebody’s life better just by showing up, it’s just amazing.

You came all the way here from Buffalo. How long of a drive is that? Dieter: 350 miles. Six hours.

Six hours! Did you listen to Taylor Swift in the car? Kate: We did. The whole way here.

Dieter: The whole way. And this just happened in like, two days. She’s been asking me for weeks.

Kate: I made a Google slideshow presentation with 13 reasons that he should take me, and it had music synced to it…

Dieter: …and I’m like, “I’m not going down there without tickets.”

Kate: I really buttered him up the last day. And then we booked the hotel, and I was like, “Well, it’s too late to refund it, so we got to go.”

Dieter: And she told me she’d be happy to be just in the parking lot, breathing her same air space.

When you’re at a concert, are you a dancer, or are you more of a head-nodder? Dieter: Well, I’m a guy. So, I’m a head-nodder.

Kate: Except if she plays  Red , he’ll be all over the place.

What brings you all to this concert today? Chaitanya: She’s a Taylor Swift fan and it’s her 16th birthday. She’s born on the 13th, so is Taylor Swift. [ Ed. note: The number 13 plays a big role in the Taylor Swift fandom. ]

Do you have a favorite Taylor Swift song? Chaitanya: I don’t think I have a favorite Taylor Swift song. But the new songs, when they come out, I just pick that one and then it changes every time the new album comes out.

And where are you coming from? Chaitanya: Harrisburg. It’s two hours away.

Two hours? So, did you take off school today? Arushi [smiling] : Yeah.

Doug, 47, and Owen, 11 Princeton, NJ

How long have you been a Swiftie family? Doug: Are we a Swiftie family? I guess we are, my wife’s taking my daughter to another [Swift] concert in two weeks. We went to the  Reputation tour in 2018.

Do you consider yourself a fan at this point? Doug: My kids are definitely fans. I like her.

Owen: My whole room is Taylor Swift.

Doug: He was obsessed with  Hamilton last year. We took him to  Hamilton for his birthday because they loved the music.

Are there any songs you’re looking forward to, even by osmosis? Doug: I told him I hope she plays her old stuff, because that’s the only stuff I really know well.

Dad and Daughter Go Viral for Their Perfect Taylor Swift ‘Eras’ Outfits

This dad-and-daughter duo have a sweet tradition of going to Taylor Swift concerts together

If there’s anything the internet knows, it’s that Swifties are everywhere—even in the unlikeliest of places. Now, a viral TikTok video is showing that stanning Tay Tay is a multi-generational affair. A dad-and-daughter duo used the platform to show off the absolutely perfect coordinated outfits they planned for opening night of the “Eras” tour , and you’ve just gotta see this.

For Elyssa Kim and her dad, Edward Kim, seeing Swift in concert is a bit of a family tradition. They’ve been to several of the singer’s shows together, and the “Eras” tour is no different. But this time, they decided to post a TikTok video —first showing them flying to Glendale, Arizona, the location of the opening night show, and then showing off the fits they planned to wear that night. Of course, it’s all set to Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do.”

The reveal happens, and we see Elyssa in a pink fuzzy jacket over a black sequin dress, paired with platform boots, heart earrings, and pink sunglasses. In other words, she’s perfectly on theme for the “Lover” era.

Then we see her dad, decked out in a black tracksuit that’s straight out of the “Reputation” era. They’re twinning without exactly twinning. They perfectly represent  two different eras of Swiftdom. It’s perfect.

Commenters definitely agree. “Ur dad slays so hard,” one wrote. Another added, “first we had the Harry dads, now we’re getting the swifty dads!” referencing another dad-and-daughter duo who went viral for their fit checks before a Harry Styles concert .

Elyssa told  Today that her dad was immediately on board with making the TikTok video.

“I was like, ‘Dad, let’s do this thing together!’ as I was on the plane because I thought it would be fun,” she explained. “Even before we left, I was trying to get a good spot and he said, ‘I’ll put my bag down so we can stand up the phone!”

The duo then followed up with a video sharing their post-concert merch haul.

Elyssa also spoke about the bonding experience of getting to see Swift concerts together.

“It’s been such a special bond to get to experience the show with my dad,” she said. “I’m so fortunate to have such a supportive figure and also be getting to be around Taylor’s presence. She’s such an empowering woman.”

Now, the singer's concert film "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour," which premiered on Oct. 13, is giving fans the opportunity to turn a trip to the movies into a red carpet event.

The Eras Tour concert movie is the perfect excuse for Swifties to pay homage to their favorite Swift albums , songs, and eras of the singer-songwriter's fashion evolution . For "Folklore" fans, crimson and amber cardigans paired with black miniskirts and tights only feel fitting, especially given the fall aesthetic that celebrities, including Swift , have been wearing all season long; for "Midnights" fans, there's no such thing as too much sparkle; and for devoted "Reputation"-lovers, black leather with silver accents is the way to go.

While the movie has inspired some fans to piece together elaborate outfits inspired by Swift's tour outfits, others are taking a more comfortable approach. Taking a page from Swift in her "You Belong With Me" video, several fans are showing up in gingham pajama pants and homemade white T-shirts that read "Junior Jewels" in marker. Of course, each shirt is unique, and like the beaded friendship bracelets that have become a staple at Swift's concerts, they give Swifties another opportunity to show off their creative side.

For the film's world premiere, fans wasted no time showing their sartorial love for the singer. On social media, fans who weren't able to attend the exclusive event also posted pictures of the outfits they would have worn to the premiere. On March 18, I buzzed with excitement in a crowd of nearly 70,000 fans eagerly counting down the seconds (literally — a giant clock ticked on screen) until Taylor Swift walked onstage for her second show of the wildly-anticipated Eras Tour . Three hours and 13 minutes later, I was basking in the blissful aftermath of an epic 44-song setlist from the music icon.

But before that, I thought long and hard about what to wear to a Taylor Swift concert I'd been daydreaming about for years. With four new albums and two re-recordings released since her last tour, the options were endless. Should I dress for her latest era, the glimmering, moody Midnights , wander back into the whimsical woods in honor of Folklore and Evermore , embrace the bubblegum pink wonderland of Lover , or pay tribute to Red (Taylor's Version) in loafers and, well, red?

The countless Taylor Swift concert outfit ideas might seem overwhelming, but after attending the first stop on the Eras Tour, I can tell you this: You'll see a little bit of everything (and a lot of sparkles.) Some Swifties threw it back to Fearless in cowboy boots , others wore heart-covered tulle dresses, and one dedicated fan even covered herself head-to-toe in ivy in honor of the Evermore track.

Swifties, the time has come! Finally, after the theft of her masters, a pandemic, and the great war on Ticketmaster, Taylor Swift is back on tour.

Taylor has not been on tour since her Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018. Since then, she has released four (yes, FOUR!) brand new albums and two re-recordings (as of this writing).

So, to celebrate The start of The Eras Tour, I’m giving you ideas on what to wear to The Eras Tour. Read on for tons of Eras tour outfit inspo!

Taylor’s new tour is called The Eras Tour , in which she plans to celebrate her entire career with her fans. She has described it as a “journey through all of her musical eras”. Not only will we get the chance to relive previous eras and live through the ones that never got the opportunity to have a tour due to the pandemic (Lover, folklore, and evermore), but we will also get to celebrate Midnights and her re-recordings.

And what about the incredible guests? For the US leg of the tour, she has lined up Paramore, HAIM, Phoebe Bridgers, Beabadooobee, Girl in Red, Muna, Gayle, Gracie Abrams, and Owenn.

Tomorrow will be the first day of the US leg of The Eras Tour and Swifties everywhere are getting ready for it. From exact replicas of her marching band costume from the Red tour to romantic Juliet dresses inspired by Love Story, to mirror balls and bejeweled corsets, Swifties are letting their creativity flow excitedly.

Concerts are awesome, but they’re not the most comfortable. They involve a lot of people, a lot of walking, and a lot of movement. Most of us just want to be able to move around and be as comfortable as possible. And costumes are fun, but they might not be the most practical. So, don’t expect this to be a list of costumes and how to create replicas. I’m taking inspiration from all the eras and creating Eras tour outfits based on them.

I’m also basing this on the location of my concert date: L.A. during the summer . I’m creating looks with this in mind. Take the weather into account when creating your own looks and make tweaks accordingly!

General Tips for What to Wear to a Concert:

Before we get to the actual looks, here are some general tips to take into account when you create your Eras tour outfits:

• Be mindful of others . If you are wearing hats or headpieces of any kind or bringing posters, remember there will be people behind you. Don’t wear or bring anything that could potentially be too big to obstruct someone else’s view.
• In most venues, ONLY clear bags are allowed, and there’s a size limit . Check if the venue you are going to is one and abide by their specifications.
• Maybe this makes me old, but I think concert earplugs are essential. For your ear health and/or if you have sensory overstimulation concerns. Please, take care of yourself and get some.
• Most venues are cashless . Again, check the website of your venue first and prepare accordingly.
• As much as I love fashion, comfortable shoes should be a priority, no matter the costume. You want to be able to walk in case of an emergency.
• Again, maybe my inner old person is showing here, but take a jacket with you . Even an overshirt is fine, but you need something to put on when you leave the venue. You’ll thank me later!
• Have as much fun as you can but be mindful of others. We are all there for the same purpose: to see Taylor and celebrate her music, so be kind to everyone around you .

The Eras Tour: A Fashion Guide

Oh, Debut Taylor . I still remember the very first time I heard her. I was on my family’s computer and found the Our Song music video. And I loved it. Taylor’s first album is less sweet than Fearless and Speak Now . She had a more aggressive sound under the country production.

For my Debut Taylor look, I wore a black A-line dress . If you have been reading my posts for a while, you might remember this dress from my very first Taylor Swift post . The dress has a V-neck, like most of Taylor’s dresses during that era, and it kind of resembles the one she wears in the Our Song music video.

Debut Taylor was still Taylor, so she had a lot of glittery, shiny things all through that era. I wanted to emulate that with my shoes. That’s why I decided on my silver cowboy boots to accessorize.

Taylor Swift Debut Album Mood Board:

To create a look inspired by Debut Taylor, you will need two things: flowy dresses in dark colors and cowboy boots . If you decide this is the look for you, go for the color scheme above and make sure your cowboy boots won’t hurt your feet.

Eras Tour Outfit Inspired by Fearless (Taylor’s Version)

Fearless (Taylor’s Version) is when Taylor really hit it big. Love Story , You Belong With Me , and Fifteen all came from this album and it is the album that cemented her in the cultural zeitgeist forever.

When someone that is not a Taylor fan thinks of her, chances are this is the era they have in mind. Even more than 1989 .  

My Fearless Taylor outfit is the only one that is costume-y, and that’s only because it’s probably the comfiest costume, as it’s literally PJs. My inspiration for this look comes from the You Belong With Me music video.

For this look, I wore a pair of plaid pants and a white t-shirt with a small pigeon patch . Accessorizing was easy for this one since I already wear glasses and they have a thick frame . Finally, sneakers for this one are a must, in honor of the lyrics “she wears high heels/ I wear sneakers”, so I went with a pair of black high-top Converse . I made an “I Love You” note as a final detail.

Taylor Swift Fearless Mood Board:

If you want to do a Fearless-inspired look, I highly recommend this one, as it is easy to recreate. You can even DIY your own Junior Jewels t-shirt.

But if you want a more fairytale look, wear flowy midi skirts or dresses in off-white or white . Maybe add some ballet flats , to emulate her being barefoot a lot through this era, or you could always go with cowboy boots .

Eras Tour Outfit Inspired by Speak Now

Speak Now is a beautiful album infused with literary elements and tropes. Speak Now is the first Taylor album I physically owned, and it has some of my favorite songs ever, like Mine and The Story of Us .

For my Speak Now Taylor outfit, I decided to emulate the purple associated with the album. I wore a light purple silk wrap dress . This dress is very flowy and feminine . Again, Taylor spent a lot of time barefoot during this era, so I went with a pair of beige espadrilles to pay homage to this.

Taylor Swift Speak Now Mood Board:

Speak Now Taylor is full-on feminine country magic. I went with this type of outfit as it is comfortable, but you can try a midi tulle dress or skirt in nude, pinky colors , or in shades of purple . Floral shirts, crochet detailing, and long sweaters are all perfect for this era.

Again, cowboy boots are still an option.

Eras Tour Outfit Inspired by Red (Taylor’s Version)

When I say that Red (Taylor’s Version) is a fan-favorite, I mean it. It was considered Taylor’s best album for years, that is until folklore came along.

But Red is not only loved by fans, it is cherished. The song All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) is emblematic of Swifties and the power that music and fans can have.

For my Red Taylor-inspired look, I wore a black and white striped t-shirt with a pair of black high-waisted shorts . For shoes, I went with a pair of black sock booties . Finally, I had a pair of red sunglasses to accessorize and used red lipstick .

Taylor Swift Red Mood Board:

If you want to create a Red Taylor outfit for the Eras tour, I recommend it! I think it is the easiest album to do.

Red has three colors: black, white , and red . Clothing-wise, you have a lot of options with this one: think high-waisted items, striped shirts, white or dark grey t-shirts, Oxford shoes, black booties, retro-looking sunglasses, and, obviously, red lipstick .

You can even add a black hat ; just make sure it won’t obstruct someone’s view of the concert.

Eras Tour Outfit Inspired by 1989

1989 was the first pop album Taylor did, and she smashed it. In this album, she’s a lot more playful and sarcastic with her lyrics and her public persona ( Blank Space, Shake It Off, We Are Never Getting Back Together ), but she also includes beautiful, honest songs like Clean.

During this era, there were a lot of retro visuals and styles, and Taylor wore a lot of ’50s and ’60s-inspired items.

To create my 1989 Taylor look, I kept coming back to the blue dress she wears in the Out of the Woods video. It’s so iconic, it got a shout-out in the next era.

I started with a blue, polka dot dress . I figured that with this dress, I could channel the blue, flowy vibe from the video, and the polka dots would bring in the retro style of the era. Again, I used the same black booties from the last outfit and wore a red lip .

Taylor Swift 1989 Mood Board:

If you’re going for a 1989-era outfit, I recommend the midi/long blue dress because it is so iconic and very comfortable to wear. But, if you want something more inspired by Taylor’s overall style, remember: 1989 is retro .

In the 1989 era, there were a lot of skater skirts, crop tops, glittery bomber jackets, and funky sunglasses . Fit and flare is the cut you’re looking for. You can also wear a black lace top or dress , to emulate her Blank Space video, or a funky pajama set to pay homage to We Are Never Getting Back Together. And, again, red lipstick is a must.

Eras Tour Outfit Inspired by reputation

And then, there was reputation . This album has a special place in my heart, as it was the first time I admitted to myself that I was a full-on Swiftie, and it was also a massive help because it came out during a very dark time in my life.

Taylor’s angrier songs were the ones I loved the most at that time, but now I’ve realized that reputation is actually an album about love , not anger.

For my reputation Taylor look, I wore a black mini skirt with an oversized green velvet hoodie . I added the skirt because the hoodie was a bit shorter than I expected, and I didn’t want to flash anyone.

Then, I put on sheer black tights and over-the-knee black boots . Finally, I added glittery silver eyeshadow and burgundy lipstick to darken my makeup.

Taylor Swift reputation Mood Board:

To create a reputation Taylor outfit, your mind might go to black first. It’s a good instinct, especially if you opt for interesting fabrics like velvet , sequins , leather , and latex . But you can also add or wear jewel tones and a TON of rainbow sequins .

Reputation is about street-style , distressed items (think sweatshirts and tees), fishnet tights , over-the-knee boots and ankle booties, and oversized tees and sweatshirts as dresses. I will say that reputation is probably the most comfortable album to emulate for a concert.

Eras Tour Outfit Inspired by Lover

Oh, Lover . We’ve had a journey.

When Lover first came out, and my own posts won’t let me lie , I was not a fan of the pastel, colorful aesthetic. That’s just not where my own style was at that moment. I was very guarded, and my darker style reflected that.

But now, four years later, Lover is easily my favorite Taylor album by far.

For my Lover Taylor look, I wanted to dive into the pink love side of things. For it, I wore a pink slip dress and, over it, a pink mesh midi dress . The mesh dress has a little black hearts print on it.

In the Me! music video, you can see the cowboy boots making a comeback, so I wore my pink metallic cowboy boots . This is the look I will be wearing when I go to the concert in L.A.

Taylor Swift Lover Mood Board:

Lover truly has its roots in previous albums. From reputation, Lover borrowed a lot of street-style items and interesting fabrics, like velvet and mesh. But it has a lot of ’60s-inspired items in it, too (like 1989) , and it gave a modern twist to the fairytales of her earlier albums.

All of this is done in bright colors and pastels, especially pink, blue, and lilac . Anything golden and sunshine related is a great Daylight homage. 

Eras Tour Outfit Inspired by folklore/evermore

Now, we have reached Taylor’s alternative albums: folklore and evermore . While they are separate albums, they’re considered by Taylor as sister albums. For this, folklore and evermore are seen as one single era, fan-named as folkmore.

For my folkmore Taylor look, I wanted to follow the last look she wears in cardigan’s music video and the first one she wears in the willow music video. I believe this is the best look to represent the era since it clearly connects both singles and albums together.

As a base, I wore a white cotton dress . I borrowed it from my mom. Then, I threw on a — you guessed it — long off-white cardigan . For shoes, I opted for a pair of brown lace-up booties , similar to the ones she wears in the album art for both folklore and evermore . Finally, I tried to tie up my hair in braids as best as I possibly could.

Taylor Swift folkmore Mood Board:

If you want to create a look based around either or both of these albums, the easiest way would be to throw on an off-white or white cardigan and braid your hair .

These albums are all about simplicity in style . During this era, Taylor wore a lot of natural fabrics, like cotton , in neutral and warm tones . Fall-related items , like coats , booties , cardigans , and flannels are great for a folkmore look.

On the other hand, you can also go ultra-glam, like something silver and shiny ( mirrorball ), or with an old-money, fancy type of look with a green accent ( the last great American dynasty ).

Eras Tour Outfit Inspired by Midnights

And we have finally arrived at the last album. Midnights is Taylor’s latest, brand-new album. (There were two re-recordings in between evermore and Midnights. )

Here, she is playing even more with her sound. This album makes a lot of callbacks to previous albums, relationships, and parts of her history.

For my Midnights Taylor look, I debated a lot about what to do. But I landed on this look, inspired by two of the three music videos she has released for the album : Anti-Hero and Lavender Haze .

For my look, I wore an orange knit polo top with blue flowers as a pattern. Then, for bottoms, I chose a pair of high-waisted, wide-leg, orange jeans . Finally, for shoes, I just threw on a pair of white sneakers .

Taylor Swift Midnights Mood Board:

With Midnights , you have a ton of outfit inspiration from either the videos or the songs. Either way, the album has very ‘ 70s aesthetic style choices, both casual and glam.

For the casual side of the album, there are a lot of knit and crochet tops , especially polo and halter tops , wide-leg jeans, corduroy pants , and oversized t-shirts .

On the glam side, black and navy blue corsets , bejeweled items , star patterns , extreme cat-eye eyeliner , faux fur , and platforms .

Eras Tour Outfit Using Taylor Swift Official Merch

This one is just a bonus for those who want to style merch they already own. With merch, I always try to be as comfortable as possible, wearing just my mom jeans, a light layer, and a pair of sneakers with it.

If you have any of Taylor’s t-shirts or tank tops, that would be ideal since they’re the most comfortable option to wear during a concert. Try wearing them with your favorite and most comfortable bottoms, they could be jeans, a skirt, or even leggings. For shoes, boots or sneakers would probably be the best idea.

I only have sweaters and sweatshirts from Taylor’s merch since those are the items I gravitate to the most, so I wore my Midnights color-block sweatshirt with a pair of skinny jeans that are a beautiful jade color .

I wanted to wear these jeans because they have the same color as one of the alternative covers she released. For shoes, I just wore a pair of sneakers since they’re my go-to option for concerts.

What to Wear to Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, Broken Down by Era

Whether you duked it out with Ticketmaster for tickets or are just going as a very lucky plus-one, you need an outfit that matches the vibe.

If you’re anything like team Marie Claire, you’ve been waiting for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour from the minute that it was announced. And whether you duked it out with Ticketmaster for tickets or are just going as a very lucky plus-one, you need an outfit that matches the vibe. Or, should I say, matches the eras of Swift’s music. 

As a fan who got to attend the show in Boston recently, I was amazed at the wide array of looks at my show. Fans were decked out in Reputation -era snake print, glitter-encrusted face paint inspired by Swift's Lovers album cover, and plenty of DIY’d T-shirts from her Speak Now days. The bottom line? The looks varied widely, proving that you can truly go in any direction when picking your outfit for the Eras tour.

I love getting dressed up for concerts, but I also want to make sure that I can wear my new pieces again and again. It was a question I asked myself over and over while shopping for my own Eras Tour ensemble: Is the look good for me for right now, or good for me forever? In the end, I opted for a bedazzled mesh dress that I could also wear again on a night out over jeans or a slip dress . For the show, I opted to style it over a bodysuit for added coverage. 

If you’re heading to the show this summer, there are a few key things to keep in mind, no matter what you wear. The show is long—five hours from the beginning of the opening act to the end of Swift’s set!—so you’ll want to wear comfortable clothing. Plus, if you’re the kind of fan who spends the majority of the concert jumping and dancing like you’re alone in your bedroom, you’ll want to wear something that you don’t have to worry about adjusting. Comfortable footwear is a must, so make sure that your new shoes don’t require breaking in before you go. Finally, the temperature tends to drop at night—especially if you’re at one of Swift’s rainier shows—so packing waterproof layers in your stadium-approved clear bag is key. (I wish I had packed a sweater.)

Ahead, I rounded up a selection of pieces for you to wear to the Eras Tour, broken down by Era. I’ve tried to think of everything: the shoes I’ve selected are known for being comfortable from the first wear. The dresses are comfortable to both sit and move around in. The jackets add warmth when you need them. Plus, many of the pieces below fall in line with some of summer 2023's biggest fashion trends . 

Taylor Swift's Debut Album Era

If you’re dying for a debut self-titled album Secret Song at your show, wear something that harkens back to Swift’s first-ever era. This time in her career was defined by pastel blue and green shades, her iconic curling-iron curls, and her country twang. Consider cowboy boots and sweet tulle skirts. 

Taylor Swift's 'Fearless' Era

Prefer gold to silver? The Fearless era is for you. This album had it all: Fireworks! A sparkly gold guitar! A gold fringed dress! More was more. To make it work, incorporate gold into your look via a pair of trendy sneakers , a going-out top in the hue, or by wearing a pair of viral gold jeans.     

Taylor Swift's 'Speak Now' Era

Speak Now was defined by one color and one color only: A rich purple. It's the color Swift is wearing on the cover of the album, and it's the shade that has stayed attached to the record ever since. Sweet midi dresses and shoes that come in the same shade are go-tos for this era. 

Taylor Swift's 'Red' Era

Red makes for an easy outfit because it only requires that you wear one color—red. Swift also went slightly preppy while on tour for the album, opting for a classic Breton striped shirt and red high-waisted denim . No matter which outfit vibe you choose, don’t forget your heart-shaped sunglasses. 

Taylor Swift's '1989' Era

1989 is one of the more unique albums in Swift’s discography regarding her looks. While she repped matching sets on tour for the album, she's opted for orange ensembles while on the current Eras Tour.

Taylor Swift's 'Reputation' Era

My personal favorite era as someone who loves to wear all-black, Reputation- inspired outfits are perfect for those who prefer a little drama. From the actual sheer mesh dress I wore to my own concert to a statement-making choker necklace priced at under $50, this era is all about going all-out. 

Taylor Swift's 'Lover' Era

If you love playing with color, consider a Lover- era ensemble for your concert. The key colors for this era were bright Barbiecore pink and rich blue, but pastel shades like baby pink and lavender —a trending color for 2023—were also popular. Go all-out with a heart-shaped stencil around your eye, or heart-shaped earrings. 

Taylor Swift's 'Folklore' Era

Folklore was a departure from the previous maximalist Lover era. The aesthetic for the album was a combination of woodland fairy and cottagecore. On-stage, this translates to flowing summer dresses in muted shades like olive green. IRL, pair lacy layers with chunky cardigans and sweet Mary Jane shoes.

Taylor Swift's 'Evermore' Era

Cozy-core fans, the Evermore era is for you. Taylor’s second pandemic album was full of woodland references but, unlike its predecessor, the vibe this time around was very much fall-inspired. Flannel dresses, comfy Birkenstock sandals, and other comfy pieces reign supreme. Shades to highlight include marigold yellow and burnt red.

Good thing silver everything is one of 2023’s biggest trends—Taylor is obsessed with the shade for her Midnights era. Her looks from this time in her career are about metallics , drama, and deep shades like navy blue and fushia. Jenna Bush Hager had ‘really special’ dinner with parents, sister for first time in ‘a decade’

Jenna Bush Hager gushed about spending some much-needed quality time with just her parents and her sister in over a decade.

“We went to dinner just the four of us and what we realized is, I don’t think we’ve been just the four of us in almost 20 years,” Bush Hager told Hoda Kotb on Monday’s episode of “Today with Hoda and Jenna.”

Jenna quickly corrected her “exaggeration” and clarified it’s been more like “a decade” since she, her twin sister, Barbara Bush, and their parents, former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush, got to get dinner just the four of them.

“I have had a husband for a long time, we’ve had children for 10 years, Barbara has had boyfriends and husbands, et cetera, et cetera,” she continued.

Kotb immediately burst out laughing and asked what her co-anchor meant by “et cetera et cetera” with her sister, but Jenna explained she was just referencing her twin’s husband and daughter.

“There was something about it that was really special to be just the four of us. Really special,” she continued.

The “Read With Jenna” podcast host went on to say there were “no distractions” and they all “had the best time.”

“Then we went and all got in bed,” she continued. “My dad was watching some sort of football game and my mom opened her presents, and then we went to bed at 8:45.”

Jenna and her sister, both 41, had traveled from the Northeast to Dallas, Texas, where their parents live.

To further commemorate their reunion, the “Today” show anchor shared a photo from the intimate dinner, which also happened to be Laura’s 77th birthday and the couple’s 46th wedding anniversary.

“Happiest birthday to our darling mama! We so happy to get to spend the night with you just the four of us! We love you so! @laurawbush AND happiest 46 years to our parents. Love you both!” she captioned the pic.

The sweet snap showed Jenna and Barbara sitting next to each other with the former President and First Lady smiling across from them.

Laura also gushed about how “special” her twin daughters made her birthday by visiting them.

“My birthday was made all the more special by a visit from our girls!” she captioned a photo of her in between her daughters at an event promoting Jenna and Barbara’s new book, “Love Comes First.”

Barbara has been married to Craig Coyne since 2018 , and they share one 2-year-old daughter, Cora.

Meanwhile, Jenna recently celebrated 15 years of marriage with Henry Hager, and the two share three children together : daughters Margaret “Mila” Laura, 10, and Poppy Louise, 8, and son, Hal, 4.
