Planning a Galapagos Islands Vacation? Here’s Why a Cruise is Your Best Bet

The Galapagos Islands are a treasure trove of natural beauty and unique wildlife. If you’re planning a vacation to this stunning archipelago, one of the best ways to explore all that it has to offer is by taking a cruise. A Galapagos Islands cruise offers unparalleled access to the diverse ecosystems and allows you to visit multiple islands during your trip. In this article, we will explore why a cruise is your best bet when it comes to experiencing the Galapagos Islands.

Access to Remote Locations

One of the biggest advantages of taking a Galapagos Islands cruise is the opportunity to visit remote and secluded locations that are not easily accessible by other means. These islands are protected areas, and many of them have limited or no infrastructure for tourists. By embarking on a cruise, you can reach these hidden gems and witness untouched landscapes that few people have seen before.

For example, Bartolome Island is famous for its iconic Pinnacle Rock and breathtaking panoramic views from its summit. However, reaching Bartolome Island independently can be challenging due to its remote location and lack of visitor facilities. On a cruise, however, you can easily include Bartolome Island in your itinerary and enjoy its pristine beauty.

Flexibility and Variety

Another advantage of opting for a Galapagos Islands cruise is the flexibility it offers in terms of destinations and activities. Each island in the archipelago has its own distinct features and wildlife population, making every stop on your journey an exciting adventure.

Whether you’re interested in snorkeling with sea lions at Gardner Bay or observing giant tortoises in their natural habitat on Santa Cruz Island, there’s something for everyone on a Galapagos Islands cruise. The itineraries are carefully planned to maximize your experience, allowing you to explore different islands throughout your trip.

Expert Guides and Educational Opportunities

A Galapagos Islands cruise is not just a vacation; it’s also an educational experience. The guides on board are experts in the flora, fauna, and geology of the islands. They will accompany you on excursions and provide valuable insights into the unique ecosystems that make the Galapagos Islands so special.

These knowledgeable guides will help you spot wildlife, explain their behaviors, and answer any questions you may have along the way. They are passionate about conservation and sustainability, and their expertise will enhance your understanding of the delicate balance of nature in the Galapagos.

Comfortable Accommodations and Onboard Amenities

While exploring the Galapagos Islands is undoubtedly an adventure, it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice comfort. Most cruises offer comfortable accommodations with private cabins, en-suite bathrooms, and air conditioning. You can relax after a day of exploration in your own cozy space while enjoying breathtaking ocean views.

Moreover, many cruises provide onboard amenities such as dining areas, lounges, sun decks, and even swimming pools. These facilities allow you to unwind and socialize with fellow travelers while taking in the beauty of your surroundings.

In conclusion, if you’re planning a vacation to the Galapagos Islands, a cruise is undoubtedly your best bet for experiencing everything this enchanting archipelago has to offer. From accessing remote locations to enjoying flexibility in your itinerary, from learning from expert guides to indulging in comfortable accommodations – a Galapagos Islands cruise provides an unforgettable journey through one of nature’s most remarkable destinations.

Endemic Galápagos Cruise

The most highly-evolved galápagos yacht to date, a galápagos cruise on board the endemic.

What we love about the Endemic

Latest in technology and design

Suites with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors

Senior-friendy vessel

ende34

The Endemic is an exquisitely crafted catamaran designed exclusively for the Galápagos Islands expedition. She has been designed to offer unrivalled luxury alongside sustainable operations, and has one of the best crew-to-guest ratios in the archipelago. Because she has been designed for Galápagos cruises and not converted from a general purpose design, Endemic offers remarkable features you can't find on other vessels, including stunning full height, full width panoramic windows and a private balcony for every suite. Thanks to her twin-hull design, she is much more stable on the water than traditional yachts, making her a perfect choice of Galápagos cruise vessel for those prone to motion sickness.

Endemic's interiors have been designed in a modern style, and her decor makes the most of the huge amounts of natural light that enters the cabins and communal spaces. Accommodating a maximum of only 16 guests, her gorgeous cabins feature king-size beds (or two full singles, to your choice), as well as a mini lounge area. The en suite bathrooms are sumptuous, with spacious showers and the highest quality linens and eco-friendly toiletries. Every cabin suite features independent air conditioning controls, and plenty of storage. The design has been modelled on a home bedroom and not a hotel room, giving the accommodations a wonderfully comfortable and relaxed feel. This is a Galápagos cruise ship that instantly makes you feel at home.

For those travelling as a family or in a group, be sure to inquire about suites on the upper deck. These all feature interconnecting doors, which means you can enjoy a huge amount of living space as a group and yet have privacy for sleeping. This makes an Endemic cruise perfect for families travelling with older children or young adults.

The communal areas on Endemic have been designed with just as much thought and care. Beautiful natural finishes throughout reflect the light that spills in from the panoramic windows that line the indoor spaces. The dining room has a relaxing, informal layout, which carries over to the lounge area with its gorgeous sofas and armchairs.

Uniquely, Endemic has a dedicated briefing area in the bow, which allows your expert naturalist guide to give you knowledgeable and intimate presentations about the flora and fauna of the islands and what you can expect to see on your next Galápagos cruise adventure. This area also doubles as a more intimate lounge area where you can enjoy some peaceful indoor relaxation.

Outside, the experience is nothing short of magnificent. The main deck platform also doubles as a beautiful shaded terrace with comfortable seating, while the equivalent area in the upper deck is a little more exposed to the sun and has sofas and coffee tables to enjoy a cocktail or two as another exciting day of your Galápagos cruise turns to night.

For sun worshipers and those who want to enjoy the best views in the Galápagos, the Endemic's "Sky Deck" will be perfect for you! Featuring a huge circular jacuzzi, luxurious loungers, a bar, barbecue and al fresco dining area, this is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy some equatorial sunshine. You can't truly say you have been on a Galápagos cruise unless you have watched sea lions play from a top-deck hot tub!

Food on board is of the highest international standard. Despite the luxury that Endemic offers, the Galápagos has a relaxed vibe, and this is reflected in the service of delicious buffet-style breakfasts and lunches where you can help yourself to wonderful local and international dishes during your cruise. Dinners are a mixture of buffet or menu choices, and everything is prepared on board with the freshest local ingredients. All dietary requirements can be taken care of - simply notify us when you book.

Endemic has a dedicated Service Officer who will make sure everything is taken care of to give you the best experience possible. With 11 crew for a maximum of 16 guests, you will enjoy unrivalled levels of service, and the crew have been hand-picked for their attention to detail and dedication to customer satisfaction. An Endemic Galápagos cruise means you'll be accompanied by a fully bilingual expert naturalist guide on all excursions, giving you the benefit of their immense knowledge and experience of these amazing islands and their habitats.

Endemic offers a wide choice of itineraries. The operator has carefully planned six different options that really maximize the amount that you will be able to see during your Galápagos cruise. The itineraries have also been designed to easily allow you to combine two and create a superb "see it all" trip of a lifetime that doesn't repeat any visitor points or excursions. Unusually for a vessel of this class, Endemic also offers a selection of short Galápagos cruise itineraries for those who wish to enjoy a shorter time on the water, or who are combining a cruise with other accommodations on the islands.

All on board equipment is first class, and guests can enjoy complimentary use of sea kayaks, paddle boards, snorkel masks, fins, and short or long wetsuits. You will also be given a re-usable water bottle and a buff to help protect you from the sun. An intimate and personal experience is guaranteed on all your excursions thanks to the small number of guests Endemic takes on each Galápagos cruise

The Galápagos Endemic is a senior-friendly vessel that has relatively few stairs, cabins located on the most accessible deck, and public areas situated near the sleeping areas. Special accommodations, such as meals served in cabins, are possible. In some cases, special excursion options are available for those who do not wish to hike or swim.

The attention to detail on this ship is amazing - her interiors are simply stunning, and completely up to date, as you'd expect from a purpose-built ship. Her crew are all keen to make a reputation as the best ship in the fleet, and this shows in the service you get here. We love the additional stability offered by such a large catamaran, and the additional space this design offers. The standout features for us are the floor-to-ceiling windows in your suite and the absolutely stunning Sky Deck. To cap it all, she has some of the most interesting itineraries in Galápagos cruising - her operators have put in a lot of effort to make sure your Endemic experience is breathtaking.

Food & Drinks on board the Endemic

The food on our Galapágos Cruises is among the very best you will find in South America. Most of the on-board chefs are internationally trained and have prior experience working in the best hotels and restaurants in Ecuador and indeed around the world.

You can expect a first-class selection of food, including a good variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, locally sourced poultry and fish/seafood, rice and pasta dishes. Most boats will always include some typical Ecuadorian dishes on the menu during your cruise. If you have specific dietary requirements then these can usually be accommodated by the chef providing you have given advance notice. Please make sure you tell us about any allergies or dietary requirements you have at the time you book with us. If you leave it until you arrive at the dockside, then it may well be impossible to accommodate your needs.

Most boats serve a range of options at meal times in a relaxed buffet-style. At the first class and luxury end of the market, some boats have more formal dining where you will be served at your seat. However the atmosphere is always relaxed on board our cruises, and never stuffy or formal.

At Galapatours we love and respect the pristine ecosystems and fascinating wildlife of the Galápagos Islands. To protect the archipelago, all vessels in Galápagos must have sophisticated water filtration systems, modern, efficient engines, and strict maintenance schedules to minimize pollution. Furthermore, The Galápagos National Park authority defines exact cruising routes that dictate which ships can visit which highlights at what day and time, as well as limiting passenger numbers.

But at Galapatours we like to go even further: We voluntarily offset all the CO2 emissions of every cruise we sell - at no cost to you. You can also play your part by traveling responsibly and following our Eco Guidelines during your stay. Click here to find out more about these guidelines, our commitment to sustainable tourism, and the Galápagos National Park rules.

Endemic Galapagos Cruise

Fantastic Journey with Endemic My son and I had a wonderful time! The accommodations, the sites we visited, the weather, the guides, the food – everything was first class and I would not hesitate for a second to recommend your cruise to anyone. As a matter of fact, I have given your name to a person who is looking to give her husband a surprise trip for his birthday. Our guide, Enrique, was excellent and the nature walks with him were full of information. He was very charismatic and handled his job with fun as well as professionalism. I honestly cannot think of a constructive recommendation. Everything was first class. Source: https://www.goldengalapagoscruises.com/reviews-galapagos-cruise

- Ultra-modern catamaran with sumptuous modern interiors; - Private balconies and amazing panoramic windows; - Upper sun deck, jacuzzi with unlimited panoramic views; - High end luxury in a friendly and relaxing environment. The Alia is the newest catamaran to arrive in the Galápagos. This beautiful, modern vessel has been finished to the highest standards to provide you with a true luxury cruise experience. With only 16 passengers at any time, the Alia has the space to provide privacy, wonderfully comfortable communal living and panoramic vistas from its large windows. Staterooms with a view Alia boasts 9 sumptuous staterooms, 8 of which enjoy private balconies. Fully flexible, all beds can be easily converted to doubles or twins to suit your preference. Staterooms come fully air conditioned, with decadent en suite bathrooms, luxury linens and accessories such as hair dryers and speaker systems. If space is important to you, then we recommend choosing one of the lower-deck staterooms which are slightly larger than those on the upper deck. A standout benefit of the Alia’s youth and modern construction techniques are the wonderful panoramic windows adorning the outer walls of every cabin. Modern glass technology allows the Alias rooms to be flooded with light, and will allow you to wake up to the most breathtaking ocean and island views before moving out onto your private balcony to take in the sounds of the Galápagos morning. Socialize in luxury The lounge, dining area, library and outside decks all match the standard of decor and execution of craftsmanship you will experience in your stateroom with beautiful wood finishes and delightful furnishing throughout. Each deck is equipped with a well-stocked bar. The lounge area is decorated in a modern yet sumptuous style and you will feel immediately at home. Dining on board is always a special event, but the relaxed Alia atmosphere makes eating with your fellow travellers a convivial and rewarding experience. Outdoor spaces are expansive and comfortable, offering al fresco dining or relaxing under shade. Sun worshipers and star gazers will want to ascend to the upper sundeck where the panoramic jacuzzi provides a magnificent place to see the islands unfold before you. Quality service, quality cuisine Captain Jaime has 9 years experience on tourist vessels in Galápagos, and his 8 crew with certified bilingual guide will ensure you are extremely well looked after whilst discovering the hidden treasures of these wonderful islands. Hotel Manager Lissette is known for her eye for detail and she can cater for your every need. Alia’s chef, Julian, prepares amazing fresh meals every day, including barbecues on the glorious sun deck, wonderful ceviche and parrillada. All the staff work to make your trip unforgettable. Our comment Alia is virtually brand new, a really stunning catamaran. Benefiting from the extra deck width and stability of two-hull designs, her lounge and dining areas are stunning and take full advantage of the extra space available. Chef Julian has some wonderful tricks up his sleeve - make sure you try his Shrimp in Orange Sauce - we can’t get enough of it. Captain Jaime has 9 years experience skippering in Galápagos, and hotel manager Lisette is a stickler for detail. Our top tip is to take a close look at the lower deck cabins, as they are bigger. If you love modern decor and you want modern facilities, you can’t do better than Alia.

Ocean Spray

The Ocean Spray is one of the most impressive vessels you can board for your Galápagos cruising adventure. Built in 2011, this mega-catamaran is one of the fastest, most stable boats in the region and will whisk you from island to island with speed and great style. The friendly crew attends to your every need with warmth and dedication, and they make sure you have the right balance of unforgettable excursions and shameless relaxation. This may be a wonderful new boat, but it boasts some of the most experienced crew in the islands. Captain Pedro has over 45 years experience, with hotel manager Eduardo only just behind. Eduardo runs a beautiful operation with some nice touches. For example, 2 dinners on each trip will be served as an outdoor barbecue with cocktails to enjoy. For connoisseurs, there are some excellent Chilean and Argentinian wines available for between $40 and $60 - very reasonable for the quality. Stunning accommodation The Ocean Spray boasts some of the best suites in the Galápagos. Her large size means that every guest suite has its own private balcony, large and opulent en suite bathroom and enormous panoramic windows. Other luxurious touches we enjoy include fully carpeted bedrooms, luxury bed linens and toiletries and beautiful wood finishes throughout. Good to know: While the downstairs cabins can be either separated bed which can be joined to form a seemsless, queen-sized matress, the upstairs suites are full-blown king-sized beds that cannot be separated. A superb bonus for solo travelers: Ocean Spray has a single cabin that does not incur any additional single supplement. The communal areas on board are no less extravagant than the suites. There is a huge sun deck with a jacuzzi tub - perfect for sun-worshiping or star gazing. The boat’s lounge is simply stunning, and the decor, ambiance, and comfort puts many luxury hotels to shame. The intimate dining area serves as the perfect backdrop for some superb meals from our excellent chefs who offer a wide range of local and international cuisine using the freshest ingredients - seafood is always a specialty! Expert crew and guides Captain Pedro is one of the most experienced skippers in the region with over 45 years at sea. Making sure everything runs smoothly is Quality Control Manager Eduardo, who can also boast over 40 years experience in his field. Our bilingual guides help you to make the very most of your Galápagos experience. The communal lounge area is used to deliver fascinating introductions to the islands and to your excursions, and guides are always on hand to answer questions and give information. They really are a superb resource and it’s obvious they relish sharing their knowledge and love of the islands. The relaxing atmosphere of Ocean Spray is the perfect place to come back to and share your memories of the day, winding down in total comfort. Our Comments This large, fast boat never fails to impress us. The surroundings are superb and the highly experienced crew can’t ever do enough for you. We particularly like the stunning communal lounge saloon, and the view of the stars from the sun deck jacuzzi tub is one of the things you can’t forget. Her no-supplement single cabin also makes this THE boat for solo travelers to Galápagos.

ENDEMIC CRUISE REVIEWS

Cruise rating: 4.8 /5 - 2 customer reviews

Our trip was absolutely fantastic! From the guides to hotels to food to yacht - it was wonderful! It might be helpful for you to know that the online Covid entry form for Peru was very difficult to understand and was required to be completed online. One of the airline agents understood it and helped us - otherwise we would not have made our flight! This is not your fault but it might be helpful for you to pass on to future clients. However, we can’t recommend you highly enough! Lynne Radcliffe and Csaba Egyhazy May 2022 4.8
Hello Lilian, I would like to thank you with all my heart for the amazing trip you arranged for us !!! Everything went perfect, your organisation was PERFECT ! A warm thank you and I wish you all the best !! Warm greetings & stay healthy ;-)) Katia Lawrence Farmer March 2020 4.8

Would do it again in a minute

Being able to see the less inhabited islands and spend time among the fantastic wildlife, and being able to learn about the Galapagos was incredible. The 5-star luxury cabins, food, and crew made the experience stress-free.

Best cruise experience so far

After 2 years of planning my wife and I decided to make this long-awaited Trip. We had a fantastic time visiting the Galapagos Archipelago while learning so many things about Nature and Wildlife. Our Cruise was very comfortable, the food and service was very good and above all our Guide was over the top. He was not only a truly professional in his fields but also a great person. As an enthusiastic bird photographer this has been one of the best places I have ever been. I hope to be back again someday.

  • 10 Exceptional

Amazing service, food, level of attention by all crew members!

Snorkeling with sea lions, delicious food, friendly crew.

Fabulous ship and crew

Close encounters with wildlife and marine life. Pristine nature of the islands. Conservation efforts by Ecuador. Guided walks. Snorkeling with sea turtles, sharks, tropical fish and frolicking sea lions. Frigate birds during mating season. Bioluminescence.

Perfect way to see the Galapagos

We did a lot of research and spoke with friends before choosing the right cruise for us to honeymoon in the Galapagos. We shied away from the larger companies / ships because of the size of the islands and fear that the excursions would just be challenging (read nightmare -- hundreds of people invading a small island). We were also concerned about the footprint of a larger ship. We finally chose a 5-day cruise on the Endemic! For us, it was the perfect decision. The size of the yacht and the fact that there were only 16 people on our cruise were ideal! We worried that the number of passengers might be an issue: if you don't like each other, a small cruise might be a nightmare. We were lucky that everyone was great! The cabins are large, well apportioned and very comfortable. Housekeeper Victoria tidied up 4 times a day, making it a pleasure to return to the cabin between each activity (and there were plenty)! The crew was uniformly amazing. Cruise director, Edison, ran a tight ship, and no detail was overlooked. Pursuer Paul made sure our wine glasses were full (very important). The chefs cooked an array of delicious dishes and fed us every 3 hours! The only negative was that the seafood, fish and beef were uniformly overcooked... That can be easily remedied. In contrast, the turkey (very difficult to cook) was perfect: tender and juicy! Guide Daniel was amazing. He guided us on 4 excursions a day: snorkeling; hikes; swimming; kayaking. He was just terrific! One of us did not snorkel, so panga pilot, Eliot, focused on his passion: bird watching. While the rest of us were in the water, Eliot showed him every bird imaginable! A big thank you to each member of the Endemic Crew for a perfect honeymoon!

Luxurious adventure in a fun way!

The cruise was very good. The problem was the prior: Golden Agency was bad, they ask us to be at 6 am at the airport and they showed up 90 minutes late. Misinformation and bad service overall. Schedules and dates were not well coordinated.

  • 8.0 Very good

Exceeded all of our expectations!

Snorkeling with sea turtles, hammerhead sharks, rays, sea lions and penguins and adding several species to my life birding list

Fantastic experience: Galapagos, boat and team

My daughter loved her single room and its privacy from the parents, but her highlight was amongst all the animals and landscape of the Galapagos the transparent kayaks and the SUPs (and the Xbox). My husbands highlight was the snorkeling (which was eased with the new equipment incl. full wet suit). My highlight was to have the chance to see the vulcano eruption and the flexibility of the captain/boat to return during daytime to see it in daylight as well. Enrique the naturalist guide did a fantastic job and was very knowledgeable. The crew was very attentative, from the cabin stewards, bar man, board manager and kitchen.

endemic galapagos cruise itinerary

The Endemic, built in 2018, is a sleek, modern cruise ship with nine suites, including one cabin for solo travelers. The contemporary elegance of the bright white and soft wood tones of the interior and exterior spaces is the perfect complement to the brilliant blue waters of the Galapagos Islands.

Life Aboard The Endemic Cruise Ship Galapagos

Imagine waking up in your spacious cabin and stepping out onto your private balcony to watch the sunrise over the Galapagos Islands. While aboard the Endemic, you will feel at home on a ship that balances luxurious private spaces with entertaining social areas. The sky deck’s whirlpool is the ideal spot to relax while watching exotic species, such as frigatebirds, fly by. Be sure to ask for a cocktail or a tasty non-alcoholic beverage from the indoor or outdoor bar before settling in for your soak.

For a drier way to enjoy some wildlife spotting, ease into a comfortable chair on the main deck’s sun terrace at the bow of the ship. It’s the perfect place to watch everything from sea lions to blue-footed boobies. Fuel all of your adventures with meals from locally-sourced ingredients expertly prepared by the ships’ chef. But your favorite meal just might be the BBQ that is served alfresco on the sky deck.

Excursions From Your Endemic Galapagos Cruise

The Endemic offers cruises of four, five, six, and eight days, ensuring there is something for every wildlife lover, regardless of the amount of time you have to devote. The activities presented during each itinerary are carefully curated to allow all 16 guests aboard the ship to have up-close-and-personal experiences with Galapagos’ native species while also protecting the fragile ecosystem.

A highly-trained guide, certified by the Galapagos National Park, will lead hikes, snorkeling excursions, beach walks, and dingy rides. Highlights of your time may include snorkeling with penguins on Bartholomew Island, a visit to a turtle breeding center on Santa Cruz Island, and a hike to see flamingoes in a lagoon on Floreana Island.

Galapagos Explorations For All Ages

It’s never too early or too late to make the dream of a Galapagos cruise come true. The Endemic offers facilities and programs for every stage of life. Celebrate retirement in style on the senior-friendly vessel, which has few stairs and easily accessible decks and public areas. If swimming and hiking aren’t for you, activities during your Endemic Galapagos cruise can be tailored to your lifestyle.

The crew of the Endemic is also delighted to welcome children aboard. A Galapagos cruise is an excellent way to introduce young people to the joys of travel while teaching important lessons about environmental responsibility. The crew takes pride in showing children the area’s wildlife, and there are kid-friendly DVDs in the TV room. The chef will even create kid’s meals that are sure to please even the pickiest eaters.

If you are celebrating a milestone birthday, anniversary, or the start of a well-earned retirement, the crew of the Endemic will make the moment special with décor and treats. But, why wait for a special occasion? Every day of an Endemic Galapagos cruise is a celebration.

4 day - central & southern islands.

itinerary map

Embarkation

AM:  Upon arrival, reception, and assistance at the airport, transfer from Baltra Airport to the M/C Endemic. We will embark at 10:15 AM from Baltra Port.

PM:  After lunch, you will discover Bartholomew Island. Once here, you will ascend to admire the spectacular panorama of Sullivan Bay and the famous Pinnacle Rock. The beaches at the foot of the Pinnacle Rock are excellent for snorkeling from which you can discover the marvelous underwater world, and with a little luck, you’ll get to snorkel with penguins.

Endemic’s 4-Day Itinerary Day One - Bartholomew Island.

Devil's Crown / Cormorant Point & Baroness’ Lookout / Post Office Bay

AM:  In the morning, after breakfast, the first spot to be visited is Devil's Crown that is an underwater volcanic crater, almost covered completely by Galapagos waters. Just a small portion of the rock formation can be seen from above and it looks like a crown. The underwater world is very rich in coral reefs, abundant marine species. Birds are also part of this visitor point due to their location in open waters. Or visit Cormorant Point where you will land on a green olivine sand beach. Following a 100 meters long path you will soon reach a lagoon with flamingos.

PM : In the afternoon, you will visit the Baroness’ Lookout (Mirador de la Baronesa). This viewpoint is located on the north of Floreana Island. The way up and the trail is very easy, steps are placed in this area for security. Your naturalist guide will tell the murder and mystery legend of the Baroness. Or you will go to the Post Office Bay, which keeps the legendary post barrel that whalers historically used to post their mail in.

Endemic’s 4-Day Itinerary Day Two - Flamingo Lagoon.

Chinese Hat - North Seymour Island

AM:  In the morning, after breakfast, you will visit Chinese Hat, which is a small islet off the south coast of Santiago, with a maximum elevation of 160 feet (52 meters). Though within easy reach of Santa Cruz, Chinese Hat is typically only visited by those aboard a Galapagos Cruise.

PM:  In the afternoon, you will discover North Seymour Island. It is located slightly to the north of Baltra. It is a low, flat island, formed by submarine lava formation uplift. Covered with low, bushy vegetation, it contains the largest colony of magnificent frigate birds in the Galapagos. There is also a large population of blue-footed boobies that perform an amusing courtship dance when nesting conditions are right.

Endemic’s 4-Day Itinerary Day Three - North Seymour Island Excursion.

Disembarkation

AM : After breakfast, enjoy the visit to Black Turtle Cove, which is located on the north shore of Santa Cruz. It is a living illustration of how mangroves alter the marine environment to create a rich and unique habitat. Three mangrove species crowd the area from the shore out into the lagoon, which reaches almost a mile inland. As you drift through quiet waters in the zodiac, you are likely to see spotted eagle rays and diamond-shaped mustard rays, which swim in a diamond formation. White-tipped reef sharks slip beneath the boat and Pacific green sea turtles come to the surface for air and to mate. Waterfowl, including pelicans, herons, and egret, all feed in the cove. This is a peaceful place that will make you feel calm.

We will disembark from the cruise at 8:00 AM from Baltra Port. After this last visit, you will be transferred to Baltra airport for your return flight to mainland Ecuador. Assistance will be provided until we bid you farewell at the airport.

Endemic’s 4-Day Itinerary Day Four - Pelican in the Sunset.

Endemic’s 5-Day Itinerary Day One - Galapagos Land Iguana.

Kicker Rock, Witch Hill & Lobos Island

AM:  In the morning, the first spot to be visited is Kicker Rock, an impressive geological formation due to erosion. This is a nesting place of sea birds. Additionally, curious sea lions and marine life can be found, such as fish, turtles, sharks, rays, representing the main attraction for snorkeling. This is a nice spot to take pictures.

The next attraction to see is Witch Hill, a tuff cone hill located southwest of San Cristobal. This name comes from the Spanish name of the bird known in English as Vermilion Flycatcher. A zodiac ride will take passengers into amazing rock formations along the island shore. A white sand beach and crystal-clear waters are part of this enchanted location. Fantastic opportunity for snorkeling.

PM:  In the afternoon, you will be taken to Lobos Island, where a small population of blue-footed boobies, frigates, marine iguanas, and great frigate birds nesting can be observed. Snorkeling with sea lions in this calm bay is also part of the excursion.

Endemic’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Two - Blue-Footed Booby.

Gardner Bay / Osborn, Gardner Islets & Suarez Point

Española Island will be explored today. You will have the chance to observe endemic wildlife such as the Hood-Mockingbird. This is the southernmost island in the Galapagos archipelago, and home to several wildlife species, including masked and blue-footed boobies. Spectacular views from the top of a cliff.

AM : In the morning, after breakfast, the first attraction to be seen is Gardner Bay that provides an excellent beach for swimming. Around the small islets nearby, snorkelers will find lots of fish and sometimes turtles and sharks. The bay is also frequented by colonies of sea lions who like to swim with you. Or visit the Osborn and Gardner islets that are amazing for underwater discovery. Snorkeling is a highlight on this visitor point.

PM : After lunch, Point Suarez will be visited, which represents one of the most outstanding wildlife areas of the archipelago, with a long list of species found along its cliffs and sand or pebble beach.

Endemic’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Three - Espanola Island.

Santa Fe Island & Santa Cruz Island

AM:  In the morning, after breakfast, Santa Fe island will be visited, which is one of the most entertaining destinations for shore excursions in the Galapagos Islands. It has two trail choices for visitors, one of which takes you to the tallest Opuntia cactus in the Galapagos. While the other trail takes you into the highlands where land iguanas can be seen. After a long walk, the opportunity to swim in calm waters or snorkel with playful sea lions will be pretty tempting.

PM:  In the afternoon, visit the Fausto Llerena Breeding Center and Charles Darwin Research Station. This place has an information center, a museum, a library, and a tortoise breeding station. In the tortoise breeding station, you can encounter tortoises of different subspecies, which are prepared for reintroduction to their natural habitats.

Endemic’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Four - Snorkelling with Sea Lions.

AM:  On your final morning in Galapagos is something special – a visit to Plaza Sur (South Plaza Island). This low, rocky island is populated by cacti and a healthy population of gargantuan land iguanas. The island is also home to the sesuvium plant, which is bright red at certain times of the year. This gives the site an otherworldly look and makes it one of the most picturesque sites in the islands. As you hike, look for boobies diving for fish offshore!

After this last visit, you will be transferred to Baltra airport for your return flight to mainland Ecuador. Assistance will be provided until we bid farewell at the airport.

Endemic’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Five - Giant Tortoises.

PM:  In the afternoon, visit Las Bachas, which is a beautiful white-sand beach, located on the northern coast of Santa Cruz Island. There you can go for a stroll or do some easy snorkeling in the gentle surf. Sea turtles lay their eggs at the edge of the vegetation. You can also look for a rusted pontoon, a relic of the Second World War. In fact, “bachas” is a poor pronunciation of “barges,” two of which were wrecked offshore at that time: the locals mispronounced the name and it stuck.

Endemic’s 6-Day 'E' Itinerary Day Four - Santa Cruz.

On the way back to the yacht, be ready to spot flamingos and other water birds.

Endemic’s 6-Day 'F' Itinerary Day Two - Isabela Island.

There are two main 8-day Endemic Galapagos cruise itineraries, which can be combined into an all-encompassing 15-day cruise. Endemic also operates shorter 6-, 5- and 4-day routes, which may be combined into an Endemic cruise in Galapagos for 10, 11, 12, or 13 days.

On the 8-Day South Endemic Galapagos cruise itinerary, highlights may include: snorkeling with penguins at Bartolome, sending a postcard at Post Office Bay and visiting the Galapagos’ largest colony of magnificent frigatebirds on North Seymour.

On the 8-Day West Endemic Galapagos cruise itinerary, highlights include Genovesa Island’s Darwin Bay and Prince Phillip’s Steps with their hundreds of species of birds, and walking over Santiago’s lava that flowed less than 100 years ago.

On the 6-Day West Endemic Galapagos cruise itinerary, focus on the uninhabited Isabela Island, and take in the red sand beach of Rabida, among other highlights.

On the 5-Day East Endemic Galapagos cruise itinerary, highlights include visiting Santa Fe Island, the place to find the tallest opuntia cactus in the archipelago; and spotting endemic species, including Darwin finches, on the southernmost island of Espanola.

Every Endemic cruise in Galapagos offers amazement and service in line with our many Galapagos luxury cruises . However, you can also choose to set your own agenda by booking this generous catamaran as one of our private  Galapagos yacht charters  for your group of 16 or fewer.

8-Day South Itinerary

The 8-day Southern Endemic Galapagos cruise visits the central, eastern and southern islands aboard 16-guest Endemic. Cruise round-trip from Baltra and visit the islands of Santa Cruz, San Cristobal, Espanola, Santa Fe, South Plaza, Bartolome, Floreana, Chinese Hat, Santiago and North Seymour.

Route map of Endemic 8-day South itinerary B, operating round-trip from Baltra with visits to the islands of Santa Cruz, San Cristobal, Espanola, Santa Fe, South Plaza, Bartolome, Floreana, Chinese Hat, Santiago and North Seymour.

Upon arrival, reception and assistance at the airport, transfer from Baltra Airport to the M/C Endemic. In the afternoon, visit Dragon Hill in the northwestern part of Santa Cruz island. Walk into the island and view the land iguana. Be among these magnificent reptiles that just a few decades ago were on the brink of extinction. Also see a flamingo lagoon, pintail ducks and other endemic birds including flycatchers and warblers. After a short trek, amazing views await. Enjoy offshore snorkeling before returning to the yacht.

lunch, dinner

In the morning, visit Kicker Rock, an impressive geological formation due to erosion. This is a nesting place of sea birds and a nice spot to take pictures while the vessels circumnavigate around the rock. Next see Witch Hill, a tuff cone hill located southwest from San Cristobal. This name comes from the Spanish name of the bird known in English as vermilion flycatcher. A Zodiac ride will take passengers into amazing rock formations along the island shore. A white-sand beach and crystal-clear waters are part of this enchanted location, providing a fantastic opportunity for snorkeling.

In the afternoon head to Lobos Island, where a small population of blue-footed boobies, frigates, marine iguanas and great frigatebirds nesting can be observed. Snorkel with sea lions in this calm bay as part of the excursion.

breakfast, lunch, dinner

Explore Española Island today. Observe endemic wildlife such as the Hood-Mockingbird. This is the southernmost island in the Galapagos archipelago, and home to several wildlife species including masked and blue-footed boobies. Enjoy spectacular views from the top of a cliff.

After breakfast, experience Gardner Bay and its excellent beach for swimming. Around the small islets nearby, snorkelers will find lots of fish and sometimes turtles and sharks. The bay is also frequented by colonies of sea lions which like to swim with you. Or visit the Osborn and Gardner islets that are amazing for underwater discovery. Snorkeling is a highlight on this visitor point.

After lunch, visit Point Suarez, one of the most outstanding wildlife areas of the archipelago with a long list of species found along its cliffs and sand or pebble beach.

After breakfast, visit Santa Fe Island, one of the most entertaining destinations for shore excursions in the Galapagos Islands. It has two trail choices for visitors, one of which takes you to the tallest opuntia cactus in the Galapagos. The other trail takes you into the highlands where land iguanas can be seen. After a long walk, the opportunity to swim in calm waters or snorkel with playful sea lions will be pretty tempting.

In the afternoon, visit the Fausto Llerena Breeding Center, which is also known as Charles Darwin Research Station. This place has an information center, a museum, a library and a tortoise breeding station. In the tortoise breeding station, encounter tortoises of different subspecies, which are prepared for reintroduction to their natural habitats. The most popular inhabitant of this Station is probably the Lonesome George turtle, that died in 2012.

As part of your day, head towards the Highlands of Santa Cruz to admire the famous giant tortoises in the wild. It is impressive to see these endemic animals that give the name to the archipelago, Galapagos. Birdwatching is also one of the activities in the highlands, since this area is home of finches and other Galapagos birds. Finally we walk into lava caves to see the enormous lava flows that formed the islands before continuing back to the ship.

In the morning, visit South Plazas Island with its unique sesuvium plants and opuntia cactuses scattered across the landscape which provide some of the most interesting wildlife observations available in Galapagos. Land iguanas are easily seen from the trail, frequently under the shade of cactuses, waiting for a prickly pear to fall.

After lunch, discover Bartolome Island. Ascend to admire the spectacular panorama of the Sullivan Bay and the famous Pinnacle Rock. The beaches at the foot of the Pinnacle Rock are excellent for snorkeling from which you can discover the marvelous underwater world, and with a little luck, snorkel with penguins.

After breakfast, visit Devil´s Crown, an underwater volcanic crater almost covered completely by Galapagos waters. Just a small portion of the rock formation can be seen from above and it looks like a crown. The underwater world is very rich in coral reefs, abundant marine species. Birds are also part of this visitor point due to its location in open waters. Or visit Cormorant Point to land on a green olivine sand beach. Follow a roughly 325-foot path to reach a flamingo lagoon.

In the afternoon, visit the Baroness’ Lookout (Mirador de la Baronesa). This viewpoint is located on the north of Floreana Island. The way up and trail is very easy, steps are placed in this area for security. The naturalist guide will tell the murder and mystery legend of the Baroness. Or go to the Post Office Bay, which keeps the legendary post barrel that whalers historically used to post their mail in.

After breakfast, visit Chinese Hat, which is a small islet off the south coast of Santiago, with a maximum elevation of 160 feet. Though within easy reach of Santa Cruz, Chinese Hat is typically only visited by those aboard a Galapagos Cruise.

In the afternoon, discover North Seymour Island. Located slightly to the north of Baltra, it is a low, flat island, formed by submarine lava formation uplift. Covered with low, bushy vegetation, it contains the largest colony of magnificent frigatebirds in the Galapagos. There is also a large population of blue-footed boobies that perform an amusing courtship dance when nesting conditions are right.

After breakfast, visit Black Turtle Cove, on the north shore of Santa Cruz. It is a living illustration of how mangroves alter the marine environment to create a rich and unique habitat. Three mangrove species crowd the area from the shore out into the lagoon, which reaches almost a mile inland.

While drifting through quiet waters in the Zodiac, watch for spotted eagle rays and diamond-shaped mustard rays, which swim in a diamond formation. White-tipped reef sharks slip beneath the boat and Pacific green sea turtles come to the surface for air and to mate. Waterfowl, including pelicans, herons and egret, all feed in the cove. This is a peaceful place that will make you feel calm.

After this last visit, transfer to Baltra airport for the return flight to mainland Ecuador. Be assisted and say farewells at the airport.

Transfers between the airport and the yacht; airport reception and assistance; accommodation; guided expeditions according to the itinerary; bilingual national park guide; cruise service officer; daily activity briefing; all meals and snacks, soft drinks and juices; captain’s welcome and farewell cocktail; use of sea kayaks, paddleboards and expedition gear (including wetsuits). Itinerary Notes

Use the itinerary as a guide only. Itineraries may be altered due to weather, wildlife, national park regulation or at the captain’s discretion. Due to the active nature of volcanoes in the Western Galapagos, alternate excursions may be offered. The ability to be flexible makes this type of small ship cruising unique.

8-Day West Itinerary

The 8-day Western Endemic Galapagos cruise visits the central, northern and western islands aboard 16-guest Endemic. Cruise round-trip from Baltra and visit the islands of Santa Cruz, Genovesa, Santiago, Isabela, Fernandina, Rabida and Mosquera Islet.

Route map of Endemic 8-day West itinerary A, operating round-trip from Baltra with visits to the islands of Santa Cruz, Genovesa, Santiago, Isabela, Fernandina, Rabida and Mosquera Islet.

Upon arrival, reception and assistance at the airport, transfer from Baltra Airport to the M/C Endemic. In the afternoon, visit Las Bachas, a beautiful white-sand beach located on the northern coast of Santa Cruz Island. Go for a stroll or do some easy snorkeling in the gentle surf. Sea turtles lay their eggs at the edge of the vegetation. Also look for a rusted pontoon, a relic of the Second World War. In fact, “bachas” is a poor pronunciation of “barges,” two of which were wrecked offshore at that time: the locals mispronounced the name and it stuck.

In the morning visit Darwin Bay, the only sandy beach found in the caldera on Genovesa. Colonies of the great frigates are found along the beach. Males exhibit their red balloon pouch to females in the hope of a match. Red-footed boobies nest in the trees in contrast to the other two booby species which do so on the ground.

In the afternoon visit El Barranco (Prince Philip’s Steps), a carved-out stone staircase leading to a wide plateau where you can observe large colonies of masked boobies, frigate birds, storm petrels and ducks. During this easy stroll, cross a small scalesia forest, habitat of the short-eared owl. The same path leads back to the ship.

After breakfast, visit the Twin Craters. Located in the highlands of Santa Cruz on the road to Baltra airport from Puerto Ayora, these scenic craters are approximately 100 feet deep and surrounded by a scalesia forest with abundant birds such as the yellow warbler and the vermilion flycatcher. Stay to see giant tortoises eating and walking, as well as birds including short-eared owls, Darwin’s finches, Galapagos rails and paint-billed crakes. As part of this experience, visit underground lava tubes formed by cooled and solidified lava. Then rejoin the ship.

In the afternoon visit Sullivan Bay, located on the east coast of Santiago Island. Land on a white coral sand beach and begin walking over lava that flowed less than 100 years ago. This is the perfect place to see and feel the volcanic origin of Galapagos, along with flora growing in the lava fields.

Isabela Island is the largest of the archipelago with a surface of roughly 1,700 square miles. It encompasses more than the half of the total land area of Galapagos. In the morning, visit the Wetlands and their nearly four miles of trails, located south of Isabela Island. Enjoy a wide variety of flora and abundant bird life, including gallinules, finches, stilts and ducks among others. Or visit Sierra Negra Volcano, one of largest craters in the archipelago with a diameter of three miles. It offers mesmerizing views with great contrast in colors between lava fields, vegetation and fumaroles. On the way up to Orchilla hill, giant tortoises and marine iguanas appear. From the viewpoint one can view the spectacular scenery of the bay, the town of Puerto Villamil, volcanoes, islets and rocks. Isabela wetlands has both endemic and introduced species.

After lunch, visit the Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Center of Isabela where infant and juvenile giant tortoises can be seen until they are ready to be released and survive in the wild. Or visit the Wall of Tears, a man-made monument built in the 1940s. Look for flamingos and other water birds en route back to the ship.

In the morning discover Elizabeth Bay by Zodiac, without making a landing. Visit the Marielas islets, home to the largest and most important penguin colony in the Galapagos Islands. Continue into a cove surrounded by red mangroves, to spot sea turtles, flightless cormorants, spotted eagle rays, golden rays, brown pelicans and sea lions.

In the afternoon visit Urbina Bay to see coral formations and large colored land iguanas. There is a good chance of seeing giant turtles, flightless cormorants, blue-footed boobies, penguins and marine iguanas.

After breakfast visit Tagus Cove for a ride along the cliffs in a Zodiac. Look for the Galapagos penguin, the flightless cormorant and other sea birds. From the landing dock it is about a 30-minute hike along the trail up to the top of the cliff to view Darwin Lake, a saline lake saltier than the sea, plus several volcanoes.

After lunch visit Espinoza point, one of Fernandina’s visitor sites located within a fascinating lava scenery with lava-cactuses. On the surface of the lava, mangroves thrive. Highlights include sea lions, penguins, the flightless cormorant (especially in spring and summer) and one of the biggest iguana colonies of Galapagos.

In the morning discover the Buccaneer Cove, located just north of James Bay. It was known as a safe haven in the 17th and 18th century for pirates to stash their loot, take on fresh water and capture tortoises for food. It is a nice place for a Zodiac ride, snorkeling and kayaking. Blue-footed and nazca boobies, fur seals and Galapagos hawks can be seen flying overhead. Or visit Espumilla Beach and its pristine sand, a popular place for marine iguanas and Sally Lightfoot crabs. The crabs attract the hunting herons, performing the dance of predator and prey. With an abundance of marine life including octopi, moray eel and shark, snorkeling here is recommended.

In the afternoon, visit Rabida Island and its main attraction of the red sand beach, famous for its cactus groves and rock formation scenery. Also take in the vegetation of this arid zone and the presence of native and endemic species. During the walk on the red sand beach, see brown pelicans’ nests and a lagoon where flamingos are seen from time to time.

In the morning visit Mosquera, a small islet between Baltra & North Seymour Islands. Lava gulls, sea lions and Sally Lightfoot crabs inhabit this sand bank with an extension of close to 2,000 feet. It also hosts the largest seasonal populations of sea lions and orcas.

Hear It from Travelers Who Have Explored with Us

We have been wanting to go to the Galapagos for quite some time and we really like the idea of having a small ship, a spacious room with balcony and full size bathroom as well as good ratio of crew to guests. We chose the 5 day eastern itinerary because we really wanted to visit the other older islands in the archipelago. We  got exactly what we wanted by booking with AdventureSmith and choosing the Endemic. Wonderful crew, boat and experience!

Accommodations Review

Our room was exactly as pictured; bright, spacious and comfortable bed. Really liked having a full size bathroom and a balcony to enjoy coffee in the morning.

Meals Review

All of the meals were excellent. Delicious flavors, lots of options, beautiful presentations and accommodated food allergies very well. We had a couple of gluten-free passengers and I accidentally ate some of their food at the buffet a few times and their options were very tasty.

Crew & Guides Review

Our national park guide Morris was one of the best guides we've had on our travels. Wonderful attitude, great presentations and information while on excursions. Our cruise director Leo was also fantastic. Very attentive and always happy.

Itinerary Review

[We most enjoyed]...visiting Gardner Bay and getting to swim in the warm water. Also really loved getting to see the blue footed boobie birds do their mating dance and calls while on Isla Lobos. [We least enjoyed]...the Charles Darwin Center, it was just really drab and kind of sad looking.

Fellow Passengers Review

All of the folks aboard the cruise were wonderful and we had a lot of fun together.

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

All our docs were delivered with plenty of time to prepare. We found the travel planner very helpful in knowing what to pack.
